Bible Question: According to sriptural reference, how old is the earth? |
Bible Answer: In Strong's concordance the word beginning is "reshith" and means "first, former". In Gen.1:2 the earth is "void and without form". Also, in Jeremiah 4:23. Years ago in a Schofield Bible I recall reading a footnote... Gen.1:1..1:2 statement. In this statement there is a time lapse between the earth in the first (voided earth that some say was destroyed by God) and the earth now which is "good". This could be so, but is not pertinant to our salvation. What the Bible really is to me, God revealing His grace to us from the time of Adam to our day and even in the future. I have no arguement concerning pre Adam time for I believe that God created the earth and has given us His plan for man from the beginning of mans history with the first Adam to the second Adam(Jesus Christ) who fullfilled the law and took back the authority that Satan had stolen from Adam and has given it to the heirs of salvation,( whosoever will believe in Christ as their Lord and Savior). Savior first and Lord also as He brought the kingdom of heaven to earth and to man, to as many as recieve Him as their King. Now he is King of kings and Lord of lords. Rev.1:6,5:10. Not that the earth is His kingdom, but that we are of His kingdom and ambassadors for Christ.(2 Cor. 5:20,Eph. 6:20) The King provides all that is needed for the ambassador and so we are well provided for and need not worry what we will eat nor drink. Again the world will hate us and we may not have a place, as Jesus, to lay our head, but we will not lack. We have all we need. The Holy Spirit as our teacher, the weapons of our Spiritual warfare, the whole armor of God(Eph.6) All of the Old Testament leads to Christ. To me this means should we gain knowledge of all the world(s) and lose our own soul we have profited nothing. Glory to God. |
