Bible Question: According to sriptural reference, how old is the earth? |
Bible Answer: There is no Scriptural reference that says the earth was created in such and such a year B.C. For that matters, what does it matter? See also Deut 29:29 ""The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law." A paraphrase: "You need not speculate on that upon which the Bible is silent. Instead, obey what is clearly stated." Alternate paraphase: "Don't worry about the parts you don't understand; you have enough to worry about in the parts of the Bible you do understand." Although it may sound like it, I am not putting down either you or your question. It's just that I don't understand all the fascination with speculation that I see manifested here at the Forum. Actually, I do wonder how old the planet is. But, other than computing the genealogies from Adam and then making certain basic assumptions, I don't see a clear verse of Scripture that give us a date for the creation of the world. |
