9981 | if we know somebody has a problem with | Matthew | Searcher56 | 6212
We are not to ignore those we have differences with, but, we are to ask for and grant forgiveness. Prayon is basically correct. In Matthew 5 we are the one who offended, so we must ask for forgiveness. In chapter 18, something is bothering us that another did. We want the relationship restored. But, if this one, like the man in 1 Cor 5, does not want to do his part ... he needs to leave the church. Else, there will be disunity. Steve |

9982 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6211
Ray ... resd my post to Hank. Also, I think your Daniel 4:8 marginal note is incorrect. Belteshazzar was Daniel's heathen name (Dan. 1:7). We see the reason he got his name. Steve |

9983 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6210
Daniel 3 has Nebuchadnezzar building a golden image - violating at least one of the ten commandments. Daniel 4 is about Nebuchadnezzar living with the wild animals, because of his pride. So was he a beliver, I say no. But, I do not know. One can say great things about God, yet not have Him in their heart. Look at the world today. Steve |

9984 | What does this mean | Prov 17:13 | Searcher56 | 6208
Yes ... the same thought is in Jer. 18:20. David wrote they "reward me evil for good" (Psa 35:12, 38:20, 109:5) Read it as "If you return evil for good, evil will not depart from your house." "Overcome evil with good," Rom. 12:21. Do not mix the two up (Isa. 5:20). Read Pro. 14:19 to see the evil bow down before the good. But, we have to wait, on God. |

9985 | More on faith? | Heb 11:1 | Searcher56 | 6140
Little faith is because we do not focus on God. In Mat. 6:20, we worry about clothes. We forget what He does in nature. The 12 were looking at the storm and not Him (Mat. 8:26). In Mark 4:40 he asked. "Do you still have no faith?" Mark 6:6 shows they have lack of faith ... they did not believe it could happen. Also, see Mark 16:14 - this is after He rose again. We forget what God has provided in the past (Mat. 16:8-10). Peter was told he had little faith (Mat. 14:31). He had to have great faith, focused on Christ, to walk on the water. So his faith increased, then decreased. In Luke 17:5 the apostles asked Jesus, "Increase our faith!" So it can increase. He commended the centurion for his faith (Luke 7:9) who all Jesus had to do is speak the word. The Canaanite woaman persisted and was healed (Mat. 15:28). Notice that they were not Jews. Steve |

9986 | What does 1 Tim 3:2 mean? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 6138
There is only one reason for the divorce, for a Christian, if the wife is not a Christian and she leaves him (1 Cor. 7:12-16). If his wife died, he is also free to remarry. I believe the pastor or deacon should be married. So if he is single, widowed or divorced - he is disqualified. Steve |

9988 | The Temptation of Christ | Matt 4:1 | Searcher56 | 6130

9989 | Could our understanding be wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6129
Who is going to be left to go into the millennium? Even if only 1/3 of the current population was left, there still would be alot. maybe all will move to where there is no destruction. Yes we could all be wrong about the millennium. I choose not to study the end of time, in depth. I know there will be a period of the millennium and what is called the "tribulation". There are more important topics to study like preayer and worship. Steve |

9990 | Can God's people be united today? | John 17:11 | Searcher56 | 6094
Selfcenteredness. The reason is that Satan knew what he had to do - get our focus off of God and our own selves. People may claim they are focused on God - but, I think they dupe themselves. It could of started in Acts 6:1ff, where the Greeks felt left out. I see that the divison was healed. But, in Acts 15:1ff there was a division of the non-Jewish Christians. The elements that divide were minor then ... and sometimes are minor now. There are the majors that need to divide. My pastor gathers with other evangelical pastors in the area every week for prayer. They set aside the differeces ... they are all minor. One day we will all be united. I am need to serve one another, even the Samaritan, Greek and the man who is in rags (as a Jew). Steve |

9992 | Why was Jesus born of a virgin? | Matt 1:23 | Searcher56 | 6090
Rom 5:12 says, "Just as through one man sin entered the world." It was not the woman that sin entered. So if man (Joesph) had sex with the woman (Mary), he would of not left her womb pure. There also could be a question about if he was the father. This gave room for the Holy Spirit to do His part. Also, it was her (Eve's) seed (offspring) that produced our Lord. Normally, the seed was the man's. And to fulfill prophecy. Steve |

9996 | Ineffective prayer by believers? | James 5:16 | Searcher56 | 6032
Yes - Our prayer can be ineffective. Prayer is more than asking. Look at the Model Prayer (Mat. 6:9-13). But, when we ask the barriers are ... a. First, we do not submit ourselves to God, asking according to His will (John 15:7). If we do this the rest of the list may not apply. b. We fail to ask. We don't take the time (Jam. 4:2). While He know what we need, He wants to hear from us. We also need to stop talking and listen to what He says; sometime in the Bible. c. We lack faith. We don't believe God can (Jam. 1:6-7). The problem is not witth God. d. We ask with the wrong motives (Jam. 4:2) e. We have sin (James 4:8,9; 5:15, 16). If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me (Psa. 66: 18). We are not obedient (1Jo. 3:22). f. We are not humble (Jam. 4:8-10). The Pharisee and publican (Luke 18:10-14). This is a short list. But, when I pray, I need to focus on Him. If in public, I am not talking to them or for their benifit. |

9997 | Ineffective prayer? | James 5:16 | Searcher56 | 6013
Prayers of the Baal priests were ineffective. I think the context of verse 16 carries to verses 17-18 ... and starts in verse 13. Since Elijah's prayers were powerful and effective (NIV). He prayed and there was no rain (1 Kin. 17:1). If God's other prophets did not know about what Elijah said and believed it, their prayers were ineffective ... maybe. Prayer is not to change God's position, but, ours. The he challanged the Baal priests, who prayed with no answer, no matter what they did (18:23-29). The reason they were ineffective, is they prayed to the wrong god. Then, Elijah prayed and there was fire (vv. 30-40) and fire from Heaven (vss. 41-46). There are other reasons why a prayer is ineffective - likesin, wrong motive, babbling (reperating witout thinking); to name a few. Bottom line Pray Rearranges All in You, to know what is God's will. 9999 | Babies/Those Who Haven't Heard Destinies | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 5975
What is the criteria for going to heaven? IF babies go to heaven, is it conditional? ... then what about children? At was age are they destined for hell? At what age do they know the difference between right and wrong? Do the two ages make a difference? I was saved when I was four, did I believe too early? ... then what about those who never heard? Are they destined for hell? I have my thoughts - but I hope to hear from all of you. Steve |

10000 | How was Samuel called from the grave? | 1 Sam 28:7 | Searcher56 | 5970
The most prevalent view among orthodox commentators is that there was a genuine appearance of Samuel brought about by God himself. The main piece of evidence favoring this interpretation is 1 Chronicles 10:13-14: "Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD." The Septuagint reading of this text adds: "Saul asked counsel of her that had a familiar spirit to inquire of her, and Samuel made answer to him." Moreover, the medium must not have been accustomed to having her necromancies work, for when she saw Samuel, she cried out in a scream that let Saul know that something new and different was happening. That night her so-called arts were working beyond her usual expectations. Is Samuel's statement to Saul in 1 Samuel 28:15 proof that the witch had brought Samuel back from the dead? The message de-livered by this shade or apparition sounds as if it could well have been from Samuel and from God. Therefore, it is entirely possi-ble that this was a real apparition of Samuel. As to whether Samuel appeared physically, in a body, we conclude that the text does not suggest that he did, nor does Christian theology accord with such a view. But there can be little doubt that there was an ap-pearance of Samuel's spirit or ghost. The witch herself, in her startled condition, claimed that what she saw was a "god" ( loh m, 1 Sam 28:13) coming up out of the earth. The most probable interpretation of this term loh m is the "spirit" of a deceased person. This implies an authentic appearance of the dead, but one that did not result from her witchcraft. Instead, it was God's final means of bringing a word to a king who insisted on going his own way. Those who have argued for a psychological impression face two objections. The first is the woman's shriek of horror in 1 Samuel 28:12. She would not have screamed if the spirit had been merely Saul's hallucination, produced by psychological excitement. The second objection is that the text implies that both the woman and Saul talked with Samuel. Even more convincing is the fact that what Samuel is purported to have said turned out to be true! As for the demon impersonation theory, some of the same objections apply. The text represents this as a real happening, not an impersonation. Of course Satan does appear as "an angel of light" (2 Cor 11:14), but there is no reason to suppose that this is what is going on here. The conclusion is that God allowed Samuel's spirit to appear to give Saul one more warning about the evil of his ways. Source: Kaiser, Walter C. Jr, et. al. Hard Sayings of the Bible |
