He has and will destroy cities ... "streets, buildings, sidewalks, and bridges" AND people. |

9962 | Will there be degrees of judgment? | Matt 11:22 | Searcher56 | 6825
Hank ... I am sorry for the delay, I have been out of town for over a week. Let me try again. What happened to Tyre and Sidon? Their judgment is more tolerable, in how they would be destroyed. |

9963 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6824
Right ... I thought I cleared that up.
9964 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6823
That is a request, we don't know what Nebuchadnezzar's response was. But, read the rest of the chapter. We do not know if he repented.
9965 | I want to know more about Mary's husband | Matt 1:24 | Searcher56 | 6790
The Joesph of Genesis and Mary's husband live over 40 generations apart ... - Matthew 1:1-16 gives the lineage of Christ thru Joesph, Mary's husband. The list has some gaps. The Joesph of Genesis was the brother of Judah (vv. 2-3). There is not much told about him in the Bible, we see some in the first two chapters of Matthew. - 1:18 he was engaged to Mary. - 1:19 he was a righteous man. He could of have Mary killed by the Law, but chose another way. - 1:24 he was an obedient man and chose a third way, sparing Mary. - 1:25 he was a patient man by waiting to have sex with her, tho it was he "right" - 2:13-18 he was a man of protection by taking his wife and the Child to Egypt. (More obedience) - 2:19-21 he was a man of sacrifice by living a new new place. (More obedience). Luke 2:4-5 he was a man obedient to the law of the land. -2:22-24 he was a man obedient to the Law of Moses. - We know Joesph lived until Christ was 12 (Luke 2:41-50) - 2:51 he was a man who let the Lor |

9966 | Capitals? What was your question Ray? | Is 9:6 | Searcher56 | 6309
Capitalization is not in the orginial text. Transaltions vary on if the captialize a name/ attribute of God. Christ was both fully human and fully God. |

9967 | giving your tithe | 1 Cor 9:16 | Searcher56 | 6298
Mat. 6:1-4 came to mind after I submitted my response. I say give to the poor family, if the need is real. Some are poor because they do not know how to budget. You could give to a ministry to give to them or give it in secret - a plain envelope with money. Or even give to several. Rom 15:26 is another example of the collection for the poor. |

9968 | giving your tithe | 1 Cor 9:16 | Searcher56 | 6297
You do well by giving a tithe. Most church memebers do not. I think if we all did, there would be an abundance. Feel free to give where you want. I designate my tithe or offering, even when I give to the church I attend. The first example of giving to a ministry outside the church is in Acts 11:29. There are other examples. If you sense a need to give to a particular ministry, do so. As pointed out, there were three OT (Law) tithes. While the church has a budget and we need to support it (trust them), we should also feel free to give where God prompts. |

9969 | Will there be degrees of judgment? | Matt 11:22 | Searcher56 | 6296
Jesus is referring to cities, not people ... tho they dwell there. Everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah were killed, even the babies. I cannot think of a worse punishment than being separated from God forever ... the judgment for all who do not believe. Steve |

9970 | Does Jesus divide families? | Matt 10:35 | Searcher56 | 6295
The sword He brings (Mat. 10:34) divides families (vv. 35-36), because there are families where not everyone will choose Him. He goes on to say we need to love Him first (vs. 37). Which is more important - Christ or family?
9971 | Gentle, humble -- but with a sword? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6294
We need to choose His yoke (12:19) or not ... that is the sword. Mat. 10:34 sounds strange, because He is the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6) and He said He is leaving peace (John 14:27). The sword divides even families (Mat. 10:35ff) because there are families where not everyone will choose Him. They do not want to chose Him, tho He is gentle and humble in heart. They do not want to be on His side of the sword. They do not want His yoke. It means they have to be like Him. |

9972 | How can we know if our faith is real? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6292
When we are tested. Do we continue to believe when there is a tough time and given an easy way out?
9973 | What is biblical discernment...? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6291
Solomon asked for this gift, to govern and know right from wrong ... and God gave it to him (1 Kin. 3:9, 12). He used this when the two women came with one baby (vs. 16 ff.). It is wisdom from God (vs. 28). He was the wisest (4: 29-24). It is called distinguishing (NAS) and discerning (KJV) used to know if someone is a true or false prophet (1 Cor. 12:10). Not everyone has this gift. It could be a person can tell if there is something different (wrong) about a person. It is important to know right from wrong ... we all can. But, like the gift of giving, some have an extra measure. Steve |

9974 | 3 Questions on Fasting | Matt 6:16 | Searcher56 | 6261
Hank ... Another great question. We need to know the reason for our actions. (1) Are Christians commanded to fast? - You cited one passage that make me say yes, by the word "whenever". The Pharisee did it twice a week (Luke 18:12). (2) What purposes does fasting serve? - The Pharisees did it for show (Mat. 6;16), but we need to do for spiritual benifit. We will hunger and thirst after for righteousness (ma. 5:6). Jesus set the example (Mat. 4:2). We will be rewarded (Mat. 6:18). (3) Prayer and fasting seem to be linked together in Scripture. What is the correlation? - They are spiritual disciplines. Prayer (vv. 5- 15) is the second of three things that Jesus mentioned in Matthew 6. The first is giving to the needy (vv. 1-4). We are to do it in secret, so others do not see us. Our audience is God. Side note, when you pray in public, do not pray to please the men who hear ... focus on God, and listen to Him, too. Steve |

9975 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6259
I agree. I can see where it is talking about Daniel and not Neb's gods. I get your view. Steve |

9976 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6258
I do not trust any one translation. I like to look at the original and several transaltions, even a non-English one. Everyone could be wrong, even I can. No one has ever got it all right, except for Christ. People are saved because of translations ... around the world. Yet, when a word is forced from English as the word, instead of Greek, I've seen problems. I am done. Steve |

9977 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6234
Ray ... I do not care what any version says. I study the Bible to see what God says. Everyone could be wrong, even me. However "whose name is Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is a spirit of the holy gods", to me refers to his gods, Not YHWH. |
||||||
9978 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6232
Nebuchadnezzar is the person being discussed. I do not think he had the Spirit in him. He is the one who named Daniel, Belteshazzar. Which was before he even considered God. You are correct - he never called himself Belteshazzar, but, it appears eight names in the book. Steve |
||||||
9979 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Searcher56 | 6217
I am saying that whoever put that footnote in is incorrect. Who quoted Dan. 4:8. To me it is very clear in the NASB, Belteshazzar was Daniel's name. As I pointed out, he was given that name in Dan. 1:7. Since it is his heathen name, the passage cannot read 'the Spirit of the holy God.' It is not from studying the original, but, from letting the Scripture prove itself, by the context of the entire book. Acts 17:11 lets me check whatever is said. |

9980 | Will all of Israel be saved? | Rom 11:26 | Searcher56 | 6213
Does this mean every single Jew, or Israel as a national entity? Didn't Judaism on the whole reject Christ and thus refuse God's saving act? How then can "all Israel" be saved? And didn't Jesus, before Paul, say that the kingdom of God would be taken away from the Jewish people and given to a new people (Matt. 21:43)?
