9924 | Who was Gamaliel? | Acts 5:34 | Searcher56 | 7386
Gamaliel menas "my recompenser (or reward)is God" He wanted moderation and calmness when the apostles were brought before the council Acts 5:34-40). We know that Paul studied under him (22:3). It is possible he was the son of rabbi Simeon, and grandson of the famous rabbi Hillel. Hillel, is referred to as authority in the Jewish Mishna. He was a Pharisse, and therefore the opponent of the party of the Sadducees. He was noted for his learning, and was president of the Sanhedrim during the regins of Tiberius, Caligula, and Claudius, and died in A.D. 52. Steve Searching Scripture |

9925 | Gershom and Eliezer? | Ex 18:4 | Searcher56 | 7385
1 Chronicles 23 tells about their children: 15 The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The leader among Gershom's sons was Shebuel. 17 Eliezer had only one son, Rehabiah, the family leader. Rehabiah had numerous descendants. -Gershom which means "foreigner" is one of four mentioned in the Bible. -Eliezer which means "help" is of of 11 men mentioned in the Bible. They remained with their mother and Jethro when Moses returned to Egypt. (Exodus 18:4). They were restored to Moses when Jethro heard of his departure out of Egypt. Steve Searching Scripture |

9926 | Do we play or pray? | Col 2:16 | Searcher56 | 7286
"Are the Sabbath laws binding on Christians today? " - Yes. Why is the fourth commandment the only one disgarded? "Paul explicitly refers to the Sabbath as a shadow of Christ" is not what Col. 2:16-17 says. Read it VERY carefully. This is another error by one that you follow. "There is no evidence in the Bible of anyone keeping the Sabbath before the time of Moses" ... well God did (Gen. 2:2). Where does "The apostle Paul warned the Gentiles about many different sins in his epistles, but breaking the Sabbath was never one of them."? Where does he talk about the first three commandments ... and the last five? We have been led astray - we do not rest like God commanded. No where are we told stop having a day holy where we focus on God and not out pleasures. I am done debating this with you. We will know the truth when we see the Lord. Steve I have written John - w/o any response from him. |

9927 | Do we play or pray? | Col 2:16 | Searcher56 | 7271
My question is do we keep the day holy or make it a holiday - where we have fun, focusing on ourselves? BTW the Lord did not break the Sabbath according to the Law, only the tradition. It does not make sense to observe the day of rest on another day now, when has to be changed back. Scofield is not correct. |

9928 | Jesus's mother last name and his brother | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 7270
We do not know. His brothers would of been called bar (son of) Joesph, if they had a surname. It was not common practice to have a surname. Judas Iscariot second name was from. I am not sure women took on any surname. |

9929 | Holy Day or Holiday? | Not Specified | Searcher56 | 7258
Is the fourth commandment out? Do we say this to the other nine? Do you set aside Friday 6 p.m. to Saturday 6 p.m., Sunday or another day? What do you do on the day you set aside? Do you force others to work on that day, whether or not they are believers? Have we made the day a holiday, forgetting the day is a holy day? Steve |

9932 | What are the seven Spirits of God? | Rev 4:5 | Searcher56 | 7257
Gloria ... We have read of the 7 spirits of God elsewhere in this book (1:4; 3:1; 5:6). BTW, some translations do not capitalize spirit - The Greek does not have capital letters. It is not the seven churches (lampstands) or leaders (stars) of chapters 2 and 3 (1:20). E. Cobham Brewer says "(1) the Spirit of Wisdom, (2) the Spirit of Understanding, (3) the Spirit of Counsel, (4) the Spirit of Power, (5) the Spirit of Knowledge, (6) the Spirit of Righteousness, and (7) the Spirit of Divine Awfulness" These spirits are angels (3:1; 4:5; 5:6; 8:2, 6; 15:1, 6-8; 16:1; 17:1; 21:9), according to someone else. "And the [1] spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of [2] wisdom and [3] understanding, the spirit of [4] counsel and [5] might, the spirit of [6] knowledge and of the [7] fear of the LORD"--Isaiah 11:2 Some may say the last six are all part of the first, spirit of the LORD. |

9933 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | Searcher56 | 7256
Kandola ... While forgiven, you must bear the consequence of the divorce. We do have the right to judge. Even the context of Mat. 7, we have to know who dogs and hogs are ( I am not calling you either). Read Mat. 18 - where I see men judging. Nonetheless - the Bible is very clear that God hates divorce ... He granted divorce in the case of adultery, because of the hardness of the heart (of the "innocent" spouse). Now if you were a non-Christian at the time of divorce you may be able to remmarry. If you were a Christian and your spouse wasn't and they left you and filed for divorce, the Bible says you are free to marry another. |

9934 | Does grace justify sin? | 1 Cor 7:15 | Searcher56 | 7255
NO!!!! Rom. 6:1 is very clear.
9935 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7254
But, some chapalins are ... I have dealt with both. As well as pastors who did not want to be corrected.

9937 | Forgiveness - Granted/ Asked For | Genesis | Searcher56 | 7252
Nolan ... While there was no offense, you are granted forgiveness. If I have not asked forgiveness, please grant me it likewise. There are times we are unaware if we have offended, so we need to be reminded. We are brothers no matter. Steve |
||||||
9938 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7203
It is verse 5, but, verse 3 begins the context. I think it is hard if we try by ourselves. As with all we do ... we need Christ. We need to study the Word and know what we do is right. It can be hard to stand up and tell the false teachers that they are wrong. We do not want to offend. Even more so if they are over you, or if you are in the military and the chapalin (who outranks you) preaches falsehood as truth. |

9939 | Did Adam die lost? | Genesis | Searcher56 | 7197
We do not know ... good parents produce evil children, like Eli. There have been bad parents who have had good sons - Josiah is one example.
9940 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7195
Nolan ... 1Co. 4:4 says we have a clear conscience, even if we are not innocent. Yes, we are blameless before Him. Read my posts below on this verse ... and have you had your posts truncated? Steve |
