9901 | Was Jesus actually in the tomb 3 days? | John 19:31 | Searcher56 | 7692
I think He died on Thursday. Luke 24:21 says today (Sunday) is the third day since, making it Thursday. - Day 1 Thursday day (6am-6pm) - Nite1 Thursday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 2 Friday day (6am-6pm) - Nite2 Friday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 3 Saturday day (6am-6pm) - Nite3 Saturday nite (6am-6pm) |

9902 | Do you do something that are not "good"? | Ex 20:8 | Searcher56 | 7691
But, do you do other things for yourself or do somethin for someone else, calling it "something good" when it is not?
9903 | Are your gulity not making a day holy? | Col 2:16 | Searcher56 | 7690
So ... are we free to violate the fourth commandment alone and not rest? If YOU change the day to Sunday - do you keep it holy or make it a holiday? I presume you are guilty.
9904 | Sabbath. | Matt 12:1 | Searcher56 | 7684
First - the question was is there a command it the Bible stating to gather on the Sabbath or the first day of the week (this term is not in the Greek)? Second - Just because Augustine taught it does make it right. He and others have linked the Sabbath with gathering together. They also have misdefined worship. Third - I still believe we should follow all the Ten Commandments. The fourth was to keep the Sabbath holy - that is cease from work, which we should not do everyday (2Th. 3:6-15). The Hebrews passge does not fit. |

9905 | What To Do With Gossips and Lazy People | 2 Thess 3:11 | Searcher56 | 7663
Do you keep away (vs 6), make special note and not associate (vs 14) with the lazy and those who gossip? Or do you violate God's command? I see many people listen to gossip as well a spread it. We need to stop talking about others, even with the "excuse" of making it a prayer request. Unless, we have: 1. Verified it to be true from the source 2. Received their permission to share it 3. Talked with God about sharing it 4. Make sure it edifies the body ... |

9906 | Did Jesus have a house of his own? | Matt 8:20 | Searcher56 | 7661
No He didn't have a home of His own.
9907 | Sabbath. | Matt 12:1 | Searcher56 | 7653
You're right. The leaders have been adding to what God intended the Sabbath to be. Today, we have gone the opposite way - we do not rest and we have changed the day. Some will say they are doing good deeds to justify their actions. Cease any type of work - tasks related to your job, chores around your home, errands. Seek to become more aware of God's presence with you, and pursue encounters with Him rather than focusing on self. If you gather with others talk about Him, not your careers, children, causes and other concerns. Do not force anyone else to violate the Sabbath, by going out, being entertained and other activities. |

9908 | Father and Son's relationship to E.O.? | John 14:28 | Searcher56 | 7631
Brent, - The Father sent the Son (John 3:17, 6:29, 57, 10:36, 11:42, 17:8, 11, 20:21). - The Father loved and was pleased with the Son (Matt 3:17, 17:5). - The Son came to do the will of the Father (John 4:34, 5:30, 6:38) even to the point of death (Matt 26:39). - The Son prayed to the Father (Luke 22:42). I'll have more later. |

9909 | detailed explanation of John 19:30 | John 19:30 | Searcher56 | 7585
First - it is a shout of victory. Jesus won, Satan lost. The word in particular that Jesus used means "complete, perfect completion, fulfillment, complete satisfaction" It means your debt is "PAID IN FULL" ... like the stamp across a bill. You cannot give anymore money or do anything. Luke 12:49-53 and John 4:34, 17:4 - He knew His mission was to do the will of His Father and He had to complete it ... 1. Jesus' doing of the work the Father had given Him examples his obedience 2. Work was done. Mission accomplished "The seeking and saving of the lost" 3. Shows his control over the timing of his death and over his actually dying 4. His sufferings as the man of sorrows were at an end 5. The righteous demands of the law had now been perfectly met 6. The sacrificial system which pointed and anticipated the once for all sacrifice of Christ was rendered obsolete. 7. All that was needed to be done to effect a persons salvation had been done. 9910 | What day are we COMMANDED to gather? | Not Specified | Searcher56 | 7573
What day are we COMMANDED to gather? I cannot find anywhere in the Bible where we are commanded to gather together. - The fourth commandment only says to keep the Sabbath day holy. It does not say to gather. - The in the NT sometimes they gathered on the Sabbath and other times on the first day of the week. I want Biblical support (I do not care what any man thinks) for your answer that it is a COMMAND. I believe it is just a tradition. Steve |

9914 | Denominations, why? | Phil 1:1 | Searcher56 | 7571
Charis - I agree with our brother Tim. I also see the early church as almost being divided in Acts 6 - on the care of people In Acts 15 there was some division - on circumsion and othe Jewish rites. 1 Cor. 1:10ff talks about divisions - following a leader. There are divisions over minor issues - eating meat offered to idols, dancing, going to movies, slavery, sign gifts, day of "worship", role of laity, music instruments, type of music, color of the carpet ... In John 17:21 when Jesus prayed for unity, Satan knew he had a simple task to cause divisons. I have gone to church of several denominations. We need to be able to gather with those who think differently on the minors. My pastor gets together with pastors of other denominations once a week. Yes, there are major differences that we should not allow - Jesus is the Son of God - the only way to heaven ... Steve |

9915 | Only God knows...but, what? | Heb 6:4 | Searcher56 | 7528
Only God knows who is saved ... and the person themselves. You asked "Is this person saved?"
9916 | What is saint? Who are saints? | Rom 1:7 | Searcher56 | 7526
a) Saint(s) means most holy thing. It is hagios in the Greek. One who is holy is set apart. b) All Chrisitans are saints, even those who are living. Romans 1:7 is one verse that supports this. |

9917 | Is this person saved? | Heb 6:4 | Searcher56 | 7524
Only God knows ... But, saying a prayer, going forward, et. al. does not mean one called on Him for their salvation. We cannot say if anyone was born again. Is going to bars, running with the wrong crowd any worse than going 1 MPH over the speed limit or honoring your parents? All are sins. If people like Mother Theresa did not accept Chirst into their heart, they are lost. On the other hand, there are people who accept the Lord minutes before they die. BTW Satan can copy "speaking in tongues" as well as other things. |

9918 | What do Bible prayers teach us? | Matt 6:9 | Searcher56 | 7522
I like to use the Diciples Prayer ... "Our Father" - Our focus in prayer is on our relationship with Him. "Who art in heaven" - Our Father is lives our hearts and in heaven - our destination. "Hallowed be your name" - Our Father is holy and so is His name. We come in reverence and magnify God. "Your kingdom come" - Our Father is the King, we are His subjects and live out His principles. "Your will be done" - We want to do the will of our Father and we will receive God's guidance. "Give us this day our daily bread" - Our Father is our Provider is spiritual and physical food. We will be fed, "Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. " - Our Father's forgiveness is greater, we will be cleansed. "Lead us not into temptation" - Our Father will lead us through temptations, we cannot do it ourselves. We will be victorious. "Deliver us from evil" - When we submit to our Father and resist the evil one, he will flee. We are protected. |

9919 | Worship service or performance? | John 4:24 | Searcher56 | 7491
First - it depends on your definition of worship. According to my study, worship is bowing low to the ground - being prostrate, before He who has absolute rule over you. The heart and mind need to be bowed before Him, too. The focus is on Him, no matter what anyone else does. I disagree when words for service, religion and others are translated worship. Again, I do not care what the experts say. When we clap our hands or otherwise acknowledege people - the focus is on them, not Him ... at best, it is split. We can let others praise us (Pro. 27:2) and we are tested by the praise we recieve (vs. 21) ... but there is danger when we seek praise (John 12:43). Clapping hand is a cultural thing. Steve |

9920 | Willy to lose so we can gain | Phil 3:8 | Searcher56 | 7428
That is not what the passage says. We have to make knowing Him our sumpreme value. All our knowledege, wealth, family is rubbish compared to knowing Him. It is a process. We need to gain more knowledge about Him daily. Dig into the Word yourself. When you read or hear what others say - first verify it and then add to your knowledge of Him. Read the context of the verse, which may be the whole chapter. We cannot have confidence in what we have, who we are, what we have done ... and we need to press toward the mark - we have not got there yet. |
