961 | Are we going thru the Tribulation | 2 Tim 3:12 | Val | 217392
All who live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. I would recommend reading the gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Notice the persecution and adversaries the Lord had. There is persecution over seas that is much much worse that what is encountered in the states. The tribulation that is spoken of for the end times is said to be much much worse that what has ever occurred in the history of the world. Joel. To answer you question no we are not going through the great tribulation now. In the book of Joel it says that the moon will be turned to blood. Joel 2:31. That has not happened in the history of the world. That is a future event.

963 | Okay to question faith and the Bible? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Val | 200119
As Azure has alluded to it depends on your friend's friend's motive. Perhaps the person asked a question he couldn't answer. That is an easy way for one to get out of serious bible study. I have heard other people say the same thing but I believe questions are healthy and a way for belivers to share their faith. Tell him to ask away but he will have to find someone willing to answer him. An example might be the Ethiopian Eunuch. Blessings, Val

968 | Scripture above scripture? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Val | 205523
Hello WOS, There is a guideline I guess you would call it that there are some obvious things in scripture. These are well understood. We are to interpret the difficult passages, those things that are not well understood, in light of the obvious passages. Also there is a guideline that we do not build doctrine on difficult passages. One example might be the handling of snakes. Most of us think thats not a good idea. Blessings, Val |

969 | Contemporizing Christians Message? | 2 Tim 4:2 | Val | 205857
Oh my, I believe you have just insulted our gracious hosts. I tend to disagree with you. The NASB has been my bible for some 20 years. I have several copies and give them as gifts to others. It is literal, dependable and easy to understand. Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." |

Perhaps I misunderstood you but these are your words "Are you saying the whole NASB and ESV are self explanatory and that no one needs any help understanding the Bible, or that messages sent to first century people in first century settings don't need any reapplication or reinterpretation for today? :)hats anyone? The NASB is the one of the most wooden (stiff)translations that exists and is harder to comprehend than most all other Bibles..." Your phrase "harder to comprehend" is what was key in my thoughts not "wooden" At NO point did the translators attempt to interpret Scripture through translation. Instead, the NASB translation team adhered to the principles of literal translation. This is the most exacting and demanding method of translation, requiring a word-for-word translation that is both accurate and readable. This method follows the word and sentence patterns of the original authors in order to enable the reader to study Scripture in its most literal format and to experience the individual personalities of those who penned the original manuscripts. For example, one can directly compare and contrast the simple eloquent style of John with the deep complexity of Paul. - Lockman |

The topic is the "word of the Lord" This verse goes along with the topic. I particularly like the encourgement that the LORD gave Abram 1) that the LORD is Abram's shield (his protection, refuge, defense) and 2)your reward shall be great (Abram will receive a reward for his obedience) Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." |

Dear Doc, should the topic of love be viewed in its context, rather than being a pat answer for all of life's problems? Loving people does not mean letting them use us to disobey God. Isn't love a complicated subject? For instance the first verse that comes up when searching the topic on love is:Gen 22:2 He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you." The world would not see this as love would they? Blessings, Val |

Dear Doc, Exactly, the liberal theology gives the interpreter more leeway in their interpretations rather than making the bible their plumbline. Their interpretations have to line up with the bible not the other way around. This is why context is so crucial and why the further we get from the literal texts the closer we get to error. One example is if I wrote someone a letter and they pulled out one line of my letter. They could bend it to whatever form they like. This is what many news medias do. They bend a comment to their particular liking. The author of the line in frustration says that is not what I meant at all. Blessings, Val |

I was not alluding to you in answer to your question: "What makes you say that I was alluding or referring to the translators of the NASB as having interpreted Scripture through translation?" It was a quote showing why I like the NASB. It might be helpful if things are not taken so personally. I think I have told you this before. "Its not about you" I am ending this discussion. Peace |

977 | A fanatic, a zealot or a prophet? | Titus 1:1 | Val | 204815
More important is what is it that she says she is hearing from God. Does it line up with the Bible? Since you are uncomfortable with her speaking, this may be a red flag. You might ask her to give her testimony before the board members. Are you the pastor? I don't see anything wrong with a person giving their testimony however it is usually done in evening services not at the main worship service.

We are still under the moral law. That part of the law that we are not under is the law which was fulfilled in the one time sacrifice of Jesus our Christ. Book of Hebrews
