841 | why lead us to stumble? | Gen 3:3 | Rowdy | 112091
I too am very worried about our nation. I've written several letters to our Government officials, attaching a copy of Romans, Chap 1 in which God warned those folks about the consequences of their continued sinful way of life. He warned them through Apostle Paul that they were headed for eternal damnation if they didn't change their ways. Many modern historians have noticed and documented the dangerous fact that our nation has been following the pattern of the Roman Empire. The disentegration of the family unit, corruption of our political leaders and now the introduction of homosexuals into our military is almost an exact duplication of that pattern. In my letters, I encouraged these Government officials to study history along with their Bibles and try to help this country re-discover its Godly roots. I'm so afraid if this pattern of getting farther and farther away from God's way of life that we find in His Word IS NOT reversed pretty soon, our children or our grandchildren might grow up in some alternate form of America than the one you and I love. We really don't live in a country that can truly call itself a christian nation. I really don't like sounding like a doomsday preacher but I do think we can reverse course and repent just like Ninevah in Jonah's story. What do you think of our chances? God bless. |

842 | Was Jehovah wrong? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112056
Our Father recognized there is always the option for mankind to have other gods when He directed His Israelite children "to have no other gods before Me." Yes God knows and created us with the power to choose between Him as the true God or anything else in this world, including the devil, self-indulgence, money, our jobs or anything else that could possibly stand between us and our God. He knows the most powerful god is the one that we worship in our minds. Like my daddy used to say to me as a young boy, we'll find time to do whatever we really and truly love. Our God is the thing that takes up most of our free time. God bless. |

843 | If it's ONLY foreplay is it still wrong? | 1 Thess 4:3 | Rowdy | 112054
I think the Lord's teaching is very clear from Matt 5:27-29 as follows: You have heard that is was said, "Do not commit adultery." But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already comitted adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose your part of the body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. So you see, God expects us to have graduated from the era of the Old Testament and realize that we can sin in the mind and it's just as damaging to our soul in God's judgment. I'm afraid God will not pleased with your actively engaging in such sinful activity as you describe. Also, it should be mentioned that this activity would also be a serious matter of sin for the young lady with whom you're thinking about in this manner. She too could help by thinking these kind of thoughts and thus would be sinning along with you. I hope you will continue studying and praying on this matter. God bless in this effort. |

844 | man ability to choose or reject God why | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 111941
So that when the few in the world do choose to become a part of His family, it truly is a glorious thing. Even, the angels in Heaven rejoice and praise God each and every time another is added to His family. One could compare this love affair on God's part to that of the Grandfather in our own families. When an older man knows he approaches the last day of his life, he grows to appreciate very keenly the love and devotion of each one of his family members, especially his own children and grand-children. When one of those is estranged for a time, it is such a good feeling to have that individual rejoin the family, especially after some period of difficulty in their personal relationship. Our Father in Heaven is the same way. Of course the big difference with Him is that He has an infinite amount of love to accommodate all of mankind throughout all of time, since creation to the the end of time. |

845 | why put the tree in middle of garden | Gen 3:3 | Rowdy | 111933
Our God is not one to hide the fact that He gives us complete freedom to choose the way of life we would prefer. Since He provided the ultimate home without any defects, it satisfied every need Adam and Eve could ever have. God was welcome to decorate it any way He saw fit. God knew this was going to be a temptation so there was no need to hide His tree. After all, there were many other sources of food so as far as God was concerned, it boiled down to one single issue: was His creation going to choose Him and His way of life or some other choice. It also makes it very clear for us today. Our lives boil down to one simple choice: will we choose to obey our conscience and live by what God tells us or will we succomb to temptation and choose another way of life which results in eternal separation from God. Of course, this decision has to be made every hour of every day. And we're always able to reverse course and go the other direction. By setting this tree in the middle of the garden, our God makes this choice very, very clear for all of us thereafter. We can't possibly deny that God has made it very clear. He puts himself in the middle of our lives each and every day of our lives. What would be your thoughts on this matter? Any opinions? God bless. |

846 | Scripture regarding women | Titus 2:4 | Rowdy | 111831
Amen, Searcher. This is further endorsed by the old saying: There's no other hand more powerful than the one rocking the cradle. History has proved this to be so true. God bless.
847 | Here is where I'm puzzled | Luke 8:15 | Rowdy | 111830
It might be instructive to insert at this moment the following quote from Apostle Paul: Rom 9:14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."[6] 16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."[7] 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[8] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory-- 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? This guidance from God's Word seems to go counter to the age-old position of His desire "that all men repent." The only conclusion I can come up with (and has been taught to me) is that God helps those who deceive themselves into their own world of self-deception. In other words, every time one lies to his conscience, it gets easier and easier because eventually our conscience gets burned out. Again, let me repeat one of God's main themes in His Word is the complete freedom of choice He gives in choosing to follow Him or His archfiend, the devil. If we choose the latter over and over again and again, knowing or at least suspecting everything is not quite right, God will help us get comfortable with that "not quite right." But if we earnestly and sincerely ask for God's guidance concerning His Word, then I believe He will re-activate our conscience and hopefully we should discover the true message behind that portion of scripture. Any response? God bless. |

848 | Revelation 20 and 21 | Phil 4:3 | Rowdy | 111803
Yes, there are numerous references in Revelation about this Book of Life but so also in: Psalm 69:28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. Philippians 4:3 Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. I see no reason to think these are all different books as they all seem to apply to God's way of just communicating to us the fact that he knows who really is in His family or not. He knows each of us and our deepest thoughts, yes even the ones we hide from our very best friend here on earth. I don't think we're going to know for certain these kind of details until after our death or possibly until the end of time. God bless. |

849 | Scripture regarding women | Titus 2:4 | Rowdy | 111799
I think we can infer a lot from Paul's letter: 2 Tim 1:5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. Paul recognized the tremendous power mothers have over their children. Then there's the example of Hanna and her son Samuel. Another is Ruth and Naomi. God bless. |

850 | NT First Born? | Ex 13:12 | Rowdy | 111773
The most important parallel I can draw from the Passover to this dispensation, is that of the blood painted over the door posts. If we don't have contact with Jesus' blood as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, then we should fear for the jeporady of our souls. I think the fact that God took the first born of the whole Egyptian nation was His last and final demonstration of just how serious God is about His demand for our obedience. God gave every chance He could for Pharoah and all the Egyptians to repent and turn away from their gods, but their hearts were too hard. Say, I never did hear from you in response to the E-Mail I sent you. God bless. |

851 | Help me solve this apparent conflict | Luke 8:15 | Rowdy | 111772
Jer 17:5 This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD . 6 He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. 7 "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD , whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." 9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve." compared to Acts 17:10 As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. I think we benefit greatly and see an answer in Paul's letter to the Romans, Chapter 7 as follows: 14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[3] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. 20Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. All the writers of God's word know from God that the heart of man is NOT naturally inclined toward God's perfect standard of goodness as we see in the One and only perfect Human, Christ Jesus. But our Father knows when we sit for a moment and commune with Him or with His family members as in a worship service, our hearts (the souls of men and women) can be lifted up to Him with a clean conscience. Then and only then, can we feel free to approach our God in prayer or worship Him. It is this inner conflict going on since Adam and Eve, this tug of war between God and the devil for our devotion to one or the other that is portrayed in these verses and throughout most of the Bible. We saw it in Abraham, in Moses in the Israelite's constant swing from extreme neglect to reconciliation to their God. We see it Peter and in Jesus' family members. We see it in Paul as mentioned before and we finally see it in the book of Revelation. So you see, it's nothing new. Good question. God bless. |

852 | r u released from marriage if mistreated | 1 Cor 7:12 | Rowdy | 111647
I must respond by saying I'd be the last person in the world to advocate a woman staying in a situation as described above and take any kind of physical or sexual abuse or to tolerate the same for her children. However, a separation of a husband and his wife should not be done quite as easily as some people do. I would urge that all reading this exchange study God's Word and exhaust all options, do everything in your power to maintain the bond of marriage as blessed by God. Remember mankind should never consider such a union of marriage to be fairly easy to break up. AND in the final analysis, again the innocent party (here the wife) CANNOT consider marriage to another man UNLESS her first husband broke that bond of marriage by committing adultery. I don't see how there could be any other way to interpret God's Wor on this matter but I'd be interested in your responses. God bless. |

853 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | Rowdy | 111625
I have to agree wit Kalos and Searcher. Nowhere in the Bible do we have an example of the gift of the Holy Spirit to include any miraculous powers other than through the laying of hands of the Apostles. As a matter fact, there are examples of people like Simon the Sorcerer who wanted to buy those kind of powers and was harshly criticized for it. The main reason for the miraculous powers such as speaking in tongues was to confirm the word as being from God Almighty. Since we have the Word of God and know it to be His, there's no need for these kind of miracles to be directly relayed by humans. Instead the few miracles in the world come directly from God or possibly the Devil. There are scriptures to support these statements but I think they've been posted to the Forum in the past, which can be recalled by use of the Search Engine. God bless. |

854 | r u released from marriage if mistreated | 1 Cor 7:11 | Rowdy | 111624
My response would come from the Apostle Paul as follows: 1 Cor 7:10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. Naturally, this guidance can be followed by either spouse as long as the innocent party resolves to remain unmarried. This must be done to maintain a good relationship with God and be assured of going to Heaven. So, with that kind of life to look forward to, I would urge you to exhaust every means available to reconcile your differences. Maybe after a period of separation, your spouse will truly repent and would be willing to reunite. It's a big decision, probably the biggest decision of the rest of your life, so consider it carefully and with much, much prayer. We will all pray for you. God bless you. |

855 | Mt 5:48 why, when we cannot to beLikeHim | Matt 5:48 | Rowdy | 111514
One can also reference Paul's encouragement to imitate him as he imitates Christ, I think it's in 1 Cor 4:14-17. Here Paul endorses the pattern of imitating Christ by identifying those who are mature in their spiritual growth toward God's standard in His Son. If we share our weakness and our strengths with our fellow christians, we build up the body of our Lord. Soul mates can build up tremendously valuable brotherhood in this way. Our Lord and Father wants to draw closer and closer to us but we have to do our part in this process. In order for us to get comfortable in spending eternity in Heaven in the presence of God, we need to get used to being more and more like God ourselves. That means we need to grow and discard our sinful nature more and more. It's a growth process. Our Father is a spirit and we will be all spirit and discard our physical bodies after dying. God bless. |

856 | Bible to be taken literally? | Matthew | Rowdy | 111482
I would refer to John 19:29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. and Col 2:13-15. In summary the Law of Moses couldn't pass away until the perfect sacrifice was made to fulfill God's perfect sense of justice. Now that the Law of Moses has been fulfilled and is no longer effective, Christ's rule in His Kingdom is in full power. Thus we will be judged by His Words as he predicted. Also we are to follow the doctrine and teachings of the Apostles, His only representatives sent to fulfill their commission. God bless. |

857 | Is it okay to drink alcohol? | 1 Tim 5:23 | Rowdy | 111475
I don't have any specific basis for condemnation of alcohol or its consumption but the most important two areas of this subject is to consume it with moderation and avoid the obvious sin of drunkenness. The other consideration is that of the effect we might have on other christians in God's family. I would be the last to advocate that a "weaker brother" use his beliefs against the stronger and make him feel miserable for consuming a drink. But on the other hand, we the stronger should watch out for the weaker and try our very best to consume in moderation AND out of sight and knowledge of that other brother. Otherwise, we are also guilty of sinning. Like EdB recommends, it's best to avoid the whole problem by abstaining but that's a level of spiritual maturity that each of us should aspire to. It's not absolutely required and CANNOT be insisted upon with any kind of basis on God's word. God bless. |

859 | wife supposed to wait husband go church | Eph 5:23 | Rowdy | 111465
If you're unable to persuade your husband to go with you, I would urge you to commit yourself to your own personal relationship with God the Father, His Son and the church for which He died. Yes, it's ideal to be a christian with your spouse at your side but our Lord will judge us all by the words we say and the actions we take. So we must ultimately take responsibility for our own actions but keeping praying that our loved ones will take heed of our choices. Who knows, maybe your husband will think long and hard about the wonderful example you're setting for him and listen to his conscience. You're in good company. There's been millions of spouses before you who led their life-long partner to Christ after they gave their own life to Him. We'll all pray for you and wish God's blessings on you. Be strong for Him. |

860 | Where does it say "MUST be baptised" | John 3:5 | Rowdy | 111461
Basically, I guess you're seeing my responses as dodges because there is no specific verse in the Bible that has all the steps of salvation in a nice perfect, 1-2-3 style format. We have to study all the examples of God's disciples following the instruction/teaching from the Apostles. I work in an office environment that is guided by contract law so that's the mentality I've developed when I study God's word. Since there is no Standard Operating Procedure as mentioned above for this gift of salvation, we're forced to study all of God's Word to come up with a conclusion, just like we do with civil law or contract law. We look for precedents and specific phrases and try to make sense of it all. I'm convinced that God's Word does NOT contradict itself but some of the passages are difficult to understand. I'm also convinced that if we take all the passages that seem to be related to this subject of accepting salvation from God, and then put those actions in some kind of logical flow, we can be assured we have God's plan of salvation. Now, if one of those steps in that process is too much, it couldn't hurt; we'll have followed the process as closely as we could. In this sense we "covered all the bases" and then some but no harm done. BUT however, if we were to leave one of those steps out of the process and meet God not having put our faith in His process, what can we possibly say to our God on Judgement Day? How can anyone argue with this kind of logic? But in an effort to be fair, I'd like to challenge you to quote Book, Chapter and verse in one passage where you get your specific steps to salvation. Tell me where God specifically tells anyone the exact process in a step-by-step fashion what it takes to be saved. Remember we're talking about one specific passage from one Bible person, or one single example that's all inclusive. I'd love to hear from anyone on the Forum take up this challenge. God bless you all. Just so we're clear on this process, God's process. The steps as I see them is: 1) Hear the Word of God, the Gospel of Christ 2) Believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God 3) Repent of one's sins which includes the resolve to not go back to a life of intentional sin 4) Be baptized for the remission of sins, contacting the blood of Jesus in faith 5) Live faithfully the christian life to death or to the end of time, this dispensation whereupon the Lord comes. |
