81 | Abraham, Gods first choice??? | James 1:17 | strts5 | 193252
I seem to remember someone telling me Abraham was not Gods first choice, but could not find it anywhere. I think maybe its someone else in the Bible or just fuzzy memory, who knows, but if someone does know please let me know... Mike R ps I shouldn't try to make sense after 11pm. |

83 | pride and ego | Matt 16:24 | strts5 | 193075
Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For me right now in my life I take this to mean I need to die to my own ego and pride. Is there an easy way to do this? I have spent 30 years building it up and its painful to deal with, especially when I don't recognize what the true pride is that is so contrary to Christ. I'm pretty sure there is no shortcut, but if someone knows one... (wishful thinking). This is a recurring theme in my life and a lesson I want to learn and get over with (I know there will always be a little tug of war). Any thoughts are appreciated. Mike R. ps I love asking questions here, there is no one who knows me and gives biased answers based on personal relationship with me. |

84 | debt free | Lev 25:52 | strts5 | 193029
Gal 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. I am in deep financial debt from living a past sinful lifestyle. looking for some scripture on Gods providence for getting out of debt. I believe it is His will, but will He help me? |

85 | Totally off topic! | Judg 10:13 | strts5 | 193020
Not a real question, and totally off topic, just wanted to share. "NEPAL'S troubled national carrier has taken a spiritual approach to recent maintenance troubles with one of its Boeing 757s by sacrificing two goats in front of the plane to appease a Hindu god." Mike R |

86 | give and it shall be givin | Luke 6:38 | strts5 | 192832
In Luke chapter 6 is there a separation (or new thought) between verse 36 and 37? If so, can you read Luke 6:38 as a stand alone statement or do you need to include verse 37? Or for that matter not include verse 39-42. I just find it odd people people quote this verse by itself so often and really want to know. Looking for the Truth Mike R |

87 | Hebrew language? | Not Specified | strts5 | 192710
2 Timothy 2:15 (King James Version) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. I am definitely the ultra curious type and want to know everything, so I decided it may help to study the Old Testament to know, or at least get a fair understanding of the language (Hebrew). I found a website (hebrew4christians.com), is anyone familiar with it. The reason I ask is because it gets very deep very fast drawing out all kinds of parallels not only of scripture and individual words, but even individual letters. It is very fascinating, however is it accurate? Mike R ps In a post a couple of days ago about evolution it may have sounded like I was siding with evolutionist, I wasn't. I have friends who believe "big bang, evolution, etc organized by God. ie, Intelligent Design". My side , creation. |

89 | How to witness to evolution believers | 1 Cor 2:2 | strts5 | 192596
This is just a side note, but I'm confused with the whole "intelligent design" thing. It kind of 'feels' like compromise, or perhaps I'm just to naive and believe God really did do it in 6 (or 7) days. To me when I see the science it just makes God that much bigger. Whatever ;/ Mike R |

90 | (still) God created evil? | Genesis | strts5 | 192544
Thought of some constructive criticism. Where it said, "but many couldnt see past their key boards and stayed infected to different degrees of corruption", could be changed to, 'put there automatic updates on manual configuration, read the updates, but never downloaded them. Just a thought, however it is pretty brilliant. Mike R. |

91 | Celebrate Recovery | Col 1:9 | strts5 | 192464
Doc, Thank you for taking the time to respond. When I first read it my instinct was to ask questions as to the first two sentences, "We do not, of course, as believers, live by methods. Instead, we live by every Word of God. Ours is a life of relationship, not a life of technique. Relationship cannot be boiled down into steps, methods, keys, or techniques". This however is obviously my pride. Anyways, thank you I have checked out the website and will do some of the courses. Mike R |

Any thoughts on this program, perhaps someone is familiar with it. I was also told by someone it does not give room to Christ to actually change a persons heart??? You can check for other things I've posted here and am still in the same place, I want to change but don't know how. I've "thrust" myself into church, prayer, being active in the body, but always end up backsliding. I am also fairly versed in the bible and no amount of head knowledge has helped much either. I'm thinking I need to submit myself to a good pastor, shut up, and just do what he asks. Eight Recovery Principles based on the BEATITUDES by Pastor Rick Warren Principle 1 - Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable. "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor" Principle 2 - Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover. "Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" Principle 3 - Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control. "Happy are the meek" Principle 4 - Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart" Principle 5 - Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires" Principle 6 - Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful" "Happy are the peacemakers" Principle 7 - Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. Principle 8 - Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires" |

97 | salved? | Joel 2:32 | strts5 | 182891
Thanks. I know I'm saved. I was always lucky enough to avoid the major court battles, however I did go from pot to speed. Five years off of drugs now. I had a church I really liked but work got in the way a lot. I would still try to fellowship but noticed peoples returned calls got fewer and fewer. I finally stopped going about six months ago after attending and being very involved for over three years. The people who want to go out and have a good time are always available. The path is narrow and uphill and there aren't a lot of people on it. I have played games with God, but He has faithfully pursued me. I used to read the bible and see judgment and condemnation (not negating it either), but now I see His grace and love toward me. He will never stop chasing me, so I might as well give up. I love spending time with Him. Anyways it's late and I feel like I'm starting to ramble, but if others would like to keep this going I think it would be great. (they overcame by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony). I'm sure others have something they could share. I know it helps me to hear others stories. Mike |

98 | salved? | Joel 2:32 | strts5 | 182883
I have popped in and out periodically of this site. Hopefully this isn't to far off topic, not being a "study" question. I grew up in the church but have been a very consistent backslider my whole life. Season hot, season cold, etc... for my whole life and I'm just past the thirty mark and do not wish to continue. I have always been a believer without question, it's settled in my heart. I try to tell myself that God is faithful to finish the work He began, however sometimes use this as an excuse to continue in a sinful behavior. I have heard it all from pastors and other Christians, baptism in the Holy Spirit, pray more, read the bible more do this, do that. I'm tired of screwing up, but I'm so good at it. I am the life of the party! I really do want to serve God. I day dream about it. I even think I'm called to ministry (don't laugh). I have had several people tell me through out my life that I am called, some well known preachers and evangelists from different denominations. I have argued with God about this many times, He always wins! At the same time I have a fear that I will stand before God and say I did this or that and He will say I never knew you. Any thoughts... constructive only please. |
