21 | Call from God! | Bible general Archive 4 | strts5 | 217394
You are Mine. You are not your own. With a great price I have purchased you for Myself. I am not dismayed that you do not comprehend, but I say that if you will listen to Me, I will reveal to you more fully so that you may know more clearly how vital you are to My purpose. There is work to be done, and I need you as a vessel through which to work. Not a vassal, but a vessel. I want to do a beautiful work. I need an individual to use who is not only available and suitable, but who loves Me in such a way as to enhance My creation. I desire not the kind of loyalty a soldier gives to his country, but a dedicated devotion of the type of love a mother feels toward her unborn child. There will be inconveniences to be borne, self-pleasing to be laid aside, sacrifices and pain-but what a blessed reward I have in store! Yes, in store for you, if you are able to let Me use you the way I desire. You are not unworthy; you are not unprepared. You have no reason to hold back unless your love for Me is too small. If this is the only hindrance, draw closer to Me, and I will pour My love out upon you so that your affection for Me may be deepened and perfected. Lo, I wait for you. Come to Me. Luke 10:1 1Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. So Jesus sent out 70 people to 35 places He was planning on going. Jesus had a pretty tight schedule. Is it documented where all these people went and at which point in Jesus ministry this occurred? Was He already on His way to Jerusalem? |

26 | talk with lord | Prov 3:5 | strts5 | 215316
Rajeeb, I have found this to be one of the most difficult things to understand and accomplish. The bible has some good instruction on this. I'll list a couple of verses that I think will help. The first says God put specific people in the church to help you with this and to guide you until you learn to do it for yourself. The second verse says to acknowledge Him in Everything, trust Him in Everything and He will direct your path. Ephesians 4:10-13(New International Version) 10He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Proverbs 3:5-6 (Amplified Bible) 5Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. 6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Hearing from God and obeying is something we learn that takes a lifetime, I'm still not there yet, but I'm working on it! In Him, Mike |

I was in a Christian book store looking for a good parallel study bible, couldn't find one so I asked for help. The wonderful and well meaning clerk came over and pointed me, with all sincerity to a parallel New Living/Message. I think I did a good job af keeping a strait face... That was the best they had! does anyone know of any EASY to understand online biblical historical study materiel? I often read the O.T. have no clue whats going on, then I will hear a teaching that gives some background. Then I go back and read that section again and suddenly it makes a whole lot more sense. If I can picture it in my head I can make sense of it, but just reading sometimes I don't get a thing out of it :( Thanks Mike |

31 | Resurrection Day, not easter! | Exodus | strts5 | 215268
Hi all, Great info from everyone! Disclaimer: I do have a link to add, now please do not think I am endorsing his ministry, I am not, I only listen to him for some of his Jewish historical information. This is for information only and please let me know any historical errors he makes. Anything sounds factual until you have the truth! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v (add equals here and take out spaces) bLlABElJPk-E I do believe many of the practices of Easter here in America ( I don't know how it is celebrated elsewhere)do have their origins in pagan religion, however the word, as I have read here sounds like it does not. Thanks, Mike |

32 | 2 Peter 1:3-8 hows it work? | Not Specified | strts5 | 215246
2 Peter 1:3-8 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The previous post caused me to look up the verse in its context, now I have questions. As I was reading it looks like verse 3-4 are the how to verse 5-8. Basically learning more about who HE is and His power IS the power to enable us to live out verse 5-8? Just looking for a sounding board here, am I stretching or do I get it? In Him Mike |

34 | Local Church ministry | 1 Cor 9:22 | strts5 | 215216
Azure, Not quite sure this is what your looking for. I was recently in the mall and walked past a hip clothing company. I'm over 30 but like to dress like I'm 20 :(, Anyway I barely noticed at first, but it was all Christian clothing! There were lots of people inside, and they were looking at the stuff. Later found out an old friend manages the place and it is privately owned by Christians. Now I don't have a scriptural reference here, but I think these things are great, but I think they are better operated privately rather than as an official church ministry. I believe it would carry too much baggage with it and, for the very reasons you listed detract from the Gospel become more about managing the business. I have seen very large churches have coffee shops at the church. Here the space is essentially free, the only costs are coffee and other minor necessities. All the workers volunteer, and any profits go different ministries. All in all its a tough call, I will just add this. My family owned and I managed a small chain restaurant, it is a lot of work! My thought is, keep these sorts of things private, but I have no scripture references for you, hope that helps. Mike |

35 | Amazing Grace! | Bible general Archive 4 | strts5 | 215206
John, Amazing! I visited a local church this morning and then went to my home church this evening. In the morning service and my home church in the evening they both used similar things in sermons that were completely different. I love to see how God plays "connect the dots" in subtle ways for us to see Him(maybe I'm nuts). The evening services was one of the best Easter services I think I have ever been in. He taught for five minutes, then we had baptisms and those baptized spoke for several minutes each and gave their testimony. And these were real baptisms, not a single person had been saved for more than six months, not ones where people are getting up to get their 37th baptism. They were all still giddy with the newness of their salvation, it was awesome! Any other Easter service testimonies out there? Mike |

Lionheart, "senseless wranglings" have to do with the Law and untruths about Christ, His death and resurrection. I would hope that someone would correct me if I stray into this. I come to this forum mostly to read posts and learn. There are some topics which I am more passionate about mostly because this is more my calling and how God geared me. I would think most on here are teachers, and are very passionate (sentimental) about that. Many are evangelists (we are all called to be) and I don't think they could spend five minutes on here before needing to call someone and tell them about Christ, while others are to busy thinking about how the chairs are to be set up for tonight's service (if you disagree with that guy, prepare to get an earful). God gifted all of us and made us passionate about that calling, but if I came off as arrogant or having an attitude, I apologize to those whom I've offended. I do tend to boast about what God is doing in and through my life, sometimes it comes across like I am boasting in myself (not good). I like to think He uses me just because He likes me :) In Love, Mike |

38 | Rev 3:15-16 | Revelation | strts5 | 215188
John, Thanks. The teaching was wonderful, I just felt this verse to be a bit of a stretch to use to make the point. (It is a pet peeve of mine and all preachers do it from time to time. They have a great teaching and then back it up with a verse that leaves me scratching my head, especially when there are plenty of verses that say it so much better). I wanted to know if this was a general understanding of these verses. A little more specifically he was saying that to be hot was to be under Grace and to be cold was to be under the Law. Luke warm was a mixture of the two. The reason God would rather you be cold is at least then you would see your need for Christ, you not being able to fulfill the Law. The person goes on to say that Paul gives the Judaizers at Galatia a stronger rebuke because of this mixing the Law with Grace than he does of Corinth for their sinful behavior. This is why God will spew them out of His mouth because to be lukewarm they have nullified Grace, but the at least in Corinth they are still under Grace. In Love, Mike PS This is as close as I can come to not cut and paste of copyright materiel |

39 | Rev 3:15-16 | Not Specified | strts5 | 215182
Rev 3:15-16 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold— I am about to spit you out of my mouth. I just heard a 'new' interpretation on this verse. One I have never heard before. It implied that this is verse is dealing with mixing the Law and Grace and not our 'walk' with Christ. Interesting to me, I can see where it could make sense, but I also feel as though this verse may be being used to fit someones own teaching. |
