81 | Believers or non-believers ? | Matt 24:40 | Ken John | 55468
Makarios, greetings ! I am new to this study programme so need to get used to the format and how to go about dealing with the questions. So am I correct in my understanding of these verses inthat the believers are taken (as was Noah in the Ark) and the non-believers will be left on earth to suffer the consequences of their unbelief ?? I have been told before that the non-believers will be taken to Hell leaving the believers to meet our Lord but this does not make sense to me...do you agree ? Ken John. |

82 | Why did Jesus say nothing | Matt 26:62 | Ken John | 116714
In Matthew 26:62 we also read how Jesus said nothing. Why ? The commentator,Matthew Henry, has this to say. Now the Scriptures were fulfilled, which said, False witnesses are risen up against me. Christ was accused, that we might not be condemned; and if at any time we suffer thus, let us remember we cannot expect to fare better than our Master. When Christ was made sin for us, he was silent, and left it to his blood to speak. Hitherto Jesus had seldom professed expressly to be the Christ, the Son of God; the tenor of his doctrine spoke it, and his miracles proved it; but now he would not omit to make an open confession of it. It would have looked like declining his sufferings. He thus confessed, as an example and encouragement to his followers, to confess him before men, whatever hazard they ran. Disdain, cruel mocking, and abhorrence, are the sure portion of the disciple as they were of the Master, from such as would buffet and deride the Lord of glory. These things were exactly foretold in the fiftieth chapter of Isaiah. Let us confess Christ's name, and bear the reproach, and he will confess us before his Father's throne. Another commentator, Barnes, states:- Jesus held his peace - Was silent. He knew that the evidence did not even appear to amount to anything worth a reply. He knew that they were aware of that, and that feeling that, the high priest attempted to draw something from him on which they could condemn him. Why did He speak later? Again Barnes tells us because Jesus needed to tell them the truth concerning Himself: This is a form of assenting or affirming. Thou hast said the truth; or, as Luke Luk_22:70 has it, “Ye say that I am.” This was not, however, said “immediately.” Before Jesus acknowledged himself to be the Messiah, he said to them Luk_22:67-68, “If I tell you ye will not believe, and if I also ask you” - that is, propose the proofs of my mission, and require you to give your opinion of them “ye will not answer me, nor let me go.” In Christ, Ken John. |

87 | What happened to the saints ? | Matt 27:52 | Ken John | 115698
Brother Rowdy, As these were saints, I base my support on Paul's 2Co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The same idea the Saviour expressed to the dying thief, when he said, “today shalt thou be with me in paradise;” Luk_23:43. Blessings, Ken. |

89 | How many great commission ? | Matt 28:19 | Ken John | 109742
Thanks mommapbs for your reply. I am not sure if this is the answer though. I have now found something which may help. The 1st Great Commission(Matt 10:5-7) To the Jewish Nation only - Kingdom proclaimed. The 2nd Great Commission (Acts 1:8) To all nations beginning with the Jewish Nation - Kingdom offered. The 3rd Great Commission (2Cor5:19) Kingdom postponed. I will study these and see what I can learn. Blessings, KJ |

92 | The culture war | Luke 17:3 | Ken John | 120857
Thanks for your clarification of what a culture war is. Jesus warns us in Scripture about the evil and tough times that will befall us humans on earth, not so ??? These are the beginnings of what Jesus told us to expect. Please read Matthew Chapters 23 to chapter 25 and you will have your answer. In Christ, Ken John |

93 | Are tithes to the church only acceptable | Luke 18:12 | Ken John | 116709
Tithing is not a requirement in our present period of Grace. However, it was a requirement in Old Testament times, under Law. Here are some verses you can study to get a clearer picture of what is needed. The tenth of anything 1Sa_8:15; 1Sa_8:17; Antiquity of the custom of giving to God's ministers Gen_14:20; Heb_7:6; Considered a just return to God for his blessings Gen_28:22; Under the law belonged to God Lev_27:30; CONSISTED OF A TENTH Of all the produce of the land Lev_27:30; Of all cattle Lev_27:32; Of holy things dedicated 2Ch_31:6; Given by God to the Levites for their services Num_18:21; Num_18:24; Neh_10:37; The tenth of, offered by the Levites as an leaven offering to God Num_18:26; Num_18:27; The tenth of, given by the Levites to the priests as their portion Num_18:26; Num_18:28; Neh_10:38; Reasonableness of appointing, for the Levites Num_18:20; Num_18:23; Num_18:24; Jos_13:33; When redeemed to a fifth part of the value added Lev_27:31; Punishment for changing Lev_27:33; The Jews slow in giving Neh_13:10; The Jews reproved for withholding Mal_3:8; The pious governors of Israel caused the payment of 2Ch_31:5; Neh_13:11; Neh_13:12; Rulers appointed over, for distributing 2Ch_31:12; Neh_13:13; The Pharisees scrupulous in paying Luk_11:42; Luk_18:12; A SECOND Or its value yearly brought to the tabernacle and eaten before the Lord Deu_12:6; Deu_12:7; Deu_12:17-19; Deu_14:22-27; To be consumed at home every third year to promote hospitality and charity Deu_14:28; Deu_14:29; Deu_26:12-15; In Christ, Ken John. |

94 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | Ken John | 65641
Thank you for your comments on prayer. As one grows in Christ our prayer life becomes so much more important and we need to take time to pray. Some days I find I am "dry" and struggle to pray. However on other days I have so much and can pray for much longer. Do you have this experience ? I am interested in the pray life of other believers ? Yours in Crist, Ken |

95 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | Ken John | 66067
Thanks for your response. I agree that one's prayer life matures as one grows in Christ. When praying in private I feel closer to God than when praying during our Church Prayer Meetings. Is it the presence of others that I am conscious of or is it that one is feeling forced to pray ? Or maybe there is another reason. Jesus did tell us that when two or more are together in prayer there He is also. Do you feel His Presence then ?

97 | What happened to Enoch and Elijah ? | John 3:13 | Ken John | 115864
Hello Ray, I am not too sure what you are asking me as these two verses speak for themselves, I think anyway: Joh 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. Barnes states: No man, therefore, is qualified to speak of heavenly things, Joh_3:12. To speak of those things requires intimate acquaintance with them - demands that we have seen them; and as no one has ascended into heaven and returned, so no one is qualified to speak of them but He who came down from heaven. This does not mean that no one had Gone to heaven or had been saved, for Enoch and Elijah had been borne there (Gen_5:24; compare Heb_11:5; 2Ki_2:11); and Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and others were there: but it means that no one had ascended and “returned,” so as to be qualified to speak of the things there. Regarding Heb 11:5 Barnes comments as follows: There is no mention made of his death, and in this respect the account of Enoch stands by itself. It is, except in this case, the uniform custom of Moses to mention the age and the death of the individuals whose biography he records, and in many cases this is about all that is said of them. But in regard to Enoch there is this remarkable exception that no record is made of his death - showing that there was something unusual in the manner of his removal from the world. I hope this will help you and answer your question to me ? In Christ, Ken. |

98 | holy spirit? | John 14:17 | Ken John | 115820
Greetings Gilly, I hope the following will help you understand who the Holy Spirit is in Scripture. Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead or adorable Trinity. His personality is proved (1.) from the fact that the attributes of personality, as intelligence and volition, are ascribed to him (Joh_14:17, Joh_14:26; Joh_15:26; 1Co_2:10, 1Co_2:11; 1Co_12:11). He reproves, helps, glorifies, intercedes (Joh_16:7-13; Rom_8:26). (2.) He executes the offices peculiar only to a person. The very nature of these offices involves personal distinction (Luk_12:12; Act_5:32; Act_15:28; Act_16:6; Act_28:25; 1Co_2:13; Heb_2:4; Heb_3:7; 2Pe_1:21). His divinity is established (1.) from the fact that the names of God are ascribed to him (Exo_17:7; Psa_95:7; compare Heb_3:7-11); and (2.) that divine attributes are also ascribed to him, omnipresence (Psa_139:7; Eph_2:17, Eph_2:18; 1Co_12:13); omniscience (1Co_2:10, 1Co_2:11); omnipotence (Luk_1:35; Rom_8:11); eternity (Heb_9:4). (3.) Creation is ascribed to him (Gen_1:2; Job_26:13; Psa_104:30), and the working of miracles (Mat_12:28; 1Co_12:9-11). (4.) Worship is required and ascribed to him (Isa_6:3; Act_28:25; Rom_9:1; Rev_1:4; Mat_28:19). Blessings, Ken John. |

99 | earth being flat?? | Acts 13:47 | Ken John | 118294
Reading Acts 13:47 I ask myself what does earth mean and Strong's definition is: "ghay G1093..... Contracted from a primary word; soil; by extension a region, or the solid part or the whole of the terrene globe (including the occupants in each application): - country, earth (-ly), ground, land, world." Now using good old common sense, we know that the globe is round, certainly not flat. Even a globe has corners. Our earth has East, West, North and South, that is, four corners. I don't really know what you intend to get from such a question but does it make any difference to your Faith in Jesus Christ? In Christ, Ken John. |

100 | Ephesians 2:9-10 Good works ? | Rom 1:15 | Ken John | 109322
Ephesians 2:9-10 is where I need better understanding as verse 9 (KJV) reads "Not of works, lest any man should boast." However verse 10 tells us "unto good works" What does good works actually mean ? I would really like to get a clearer picture. KJ
