81 | Purpose of the parables? | Matt 13:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205004
Dear Lookinforacity, Jesus had reasons that I could tell to preach the parables, but I am not too sure that He was preaching the kingdom. I think when He preached the Sermon on the Mount He was preaching the kingdom, but when He preached the parables there was something esle going on. Mathew 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "why do you speak to them in parables?" :11 Jesus answered them, "to you it has been granted to know the mysteries fo the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. :13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. See Mathew 13:14-17 Jesus was revealing the the mysteries of the kingdom to the disciples and to hide the truth from unbelievers. I agree with what you said about unbelief. Not many churches are preaching the kingdom because the apostles switched up and began preaching the crucifixion instead, which is the same thing. Christ revealed Himself in a lasting and final way after the crucifixion, where as before the crucufixion the only thing to be preaching about was the kingdom is at hand and repent. I don't know what you think? God's day to you, Tamara |

82 | Purpose of the parables? | Matt 13:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205951
Dear Stone, I was looking at what you have said here and I would say that the vast majority of this scene was for the benefit of the disciples and us by attrition and for the detriment of those whom Jesus new would never turn around and believe. I have been thinking about something that Doc posted as a stand alone and how God's sovereignty works through the parables. Here is what I thought about it all after reading his post; although it is true that the crowds had already rejected the message and then it appears as if Jesus then takes action to seal their hardness of heart by speaking in parables lest they turn and understand... But from eternity past it was already a done deal, they were never going to be foreknown, predestined, or elected - so from the finite mortal point of the crowds rejecting the message and then Jesus sealing their fate, it actually from an infinite eternal stand point is that Jesus was merely carrying out the divine sovereign plan. It took some thinking but I did get there in a few minutes. That is one. Two is Jesus is not so much winking at us in the future in giving us a secret as He is sincerely giving the disciples then a secret, a true mystery, which according to Jesus is what all parables are, the mysteries of the Kingdom. We always have to remember that the historical context and the grammatical content is drives the meaning of the text. Jesus was specifically addressing the disciples in that day and age primarily in the parables and the crowds in that day and age secondarily. Where we come in is in the application for us today based on that we too are disciples and all parables are to reveal the mysteries of the kingdom to Jesus' disciples. I am trying to click with your understanding of why the crowds were following Him because we are talking about parables in general here and not one specific parable. Each situation was different and they had different reasons sometimes to be following Him; to get fed more food, to see more miracles, to get more healings, to hear more of the teachings of Jesus, He had a huge number of disciples following Him as part of the crowds until they became angry and confused and left off of Him at one point. This points to that a lot of them were at one point disciples but that they deserted Him when they no longer like what they heard about eating His body and driking His blood. We still only have two groups here, disciples and unbelievers, which is always true of the parables... That is what I think, God's Day To You, Tamara |

87 | Salvation message of Jesus | Mark | Tamara Brewington | 204439
Lookinforacity, This is Tamara, I am going to jump in on this one, there is an answer to your dillema here and it lies in the nature of what is called progressive revelation. Jesus, when He was walking around on the earth was telling people to repent of their sins and to believe that the kingdom of God was in their midst and to belive that He was God - that was the first and the only gospel message that was being preached by Himself and the apostles before He was rejected and crucified. Then He was rejected, that message was rejected and He was crucified and then resurrected. He went and showed Himself to the disciples and told them to wait for the Holy Spirit to come on them with power so that they could go be witnesses of Him (spread the good news). The disciples after Pentecost began to preach a new message than the one they were preaching before Jesus died. This is called progressive revelation - the new message being preached by the apostles and disciples became the repentance of sin, the crucifixion and the resurrection. Both messages had the power to save, it is just that the message changed in nature a bit. John is absolutely right to tell you that the gospel Jesus was referring to in the passage you originaly cited was the message of salvation, it was just a bit different than it is now. There are several areas of viewing the Bible that constitute what the word gospel encompasses and each one of these views leads or has lead to salvation and is the gospel. You can't separate the history from the message and you can't separate the work and words of Jesus to save people while He was alive from the message we now preach or the history of how it got that way. It all fits together into one message delivered in three different ways. A)There are three definitions of what we can call the good news or the gospel; 1.The Gospel as the whole life and death story of Jesus culminating in a final proof that He is God. 2.The Gospel as the message we preach to: demonstrate that people are sinners, demonstrate the need for salvation, present the means of salvation. 3.The Gospel as the ministry of Jesus. B)A break down of what A) is talking about using scripture; The Gospel As The Whole Life And Death Story Of Jesus Culminating In The Final Proof That He Is God The Early Years Of Jesus Mathew 1:1 – 4:11, Mark 1:1 – 13, Luke 1:5 – 2:52 Jesus Begins His Ministry Mathew 4:12 – 22, Luke 3:22 – 4:15, 1:19 – 4:45 The Galilean And Judean Ministry Mathew 4:23 – 20:34, Mark 1:14 – 10:52, Luke 4:16 – 19:27, John 4:54 – 12:11 Jesus At Jerusalem Mathew 21:9 – 27:66, Mark 11:1 – 15:57, Luke 19:28 – 23:56, John 12:12 – 19:42 The Resurrection And Ascension Mathew 28:1 – 28:20, Mark 16:1 – 16:20, Luke 24:1 – 24:53, John 20:1 0 21:25 The Gospel As The Message We Preach The Mandate To Preach The Gospel Mathew 10:7, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8, II Timothy 4:2 Romans 1:3, 4, I Corinthians 15:1 – 4, II Timothy 2:8, I Corinthians 1:23, Acts 2:23, 24, Acts 10:39, 40, Acts 4:2, Acts 4:12, Acts 9:20, Acts 17:3 Demonstrate That People Are Sinners Romans 3:10, Romans 11:31, Psalm 14:1, Psalm 51:5, Ecclesiastes 7:20 Demonstrate The Need For Salvation Ephesians 2:1, Ephesians 4:18, Hebrews 10:31, John 8:24 Psalm 7:11, Revelation 20:11 Present The Means Of Salvation Romans 10:9, 10, John 3:3, 5, Acts 16, 30, Acts 17:30, The Gospel As The Ministry Of Jesus The Sermon On The Mount Mathew 5:1 – 7:29, Luke 6:20 - 49 The Parables Mathew 5:14 – 16, 7:24 – 27, 9:16, 17, 13:3 – 23, 13:24 – 30, 13:31, 32, 13:33, 13:44, 13:45, 46, 13:47 – 50, 18:12 – 14, 18:23 – 35, 20:1 – 16, 21:33 – 45, 22:2 – 14, 24:32 – 44, 25:1 - 13, 25:14 – 30, Mark 4:26 – 29, 13:33 – 37, Luke 7:41 – 43, 10:30 – 37, 11:5 – 13, 12:16 – 21, 12:35 – 40, 12:42 – 48, 13:6 – 9, 14:16:24 – 35, 15:8 – 10, 15:11 – 32, 16:1 – 13, 16:19 – 31, 17:7 – 10, 18:1 – 8, 18:9 – 14, 19:11 – 27. 90 | Amazement functioned in Mark? | Mark 1:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204553
My dear RC, I always forgive you. I say what follows in respect and love. I am not in college at all, just a Bible school. and yes I went checking although I didn't say that for each question and didn't find an answer so I posted the questions. These are not class questions per say, some of them did not stem from hearing things I did not agree or disagree with in class, but came from looking at some passages. But some of them did come from taking class and being left wondering more about the subject, or just plain frustrated with what I have been taught. But I never, ask something because I need an answer for class and look for the answer here. I often ask forum members what they think about a take on a subject that I already have researched and don't agree with what a professor taught, but not to be able to take that to go pass a class. These are professors who decided to devote their time to a Bible School for lay people. Does it really matter what my motive is in asking a question other than a real desire to study everything about the Bible? As long as I am not tryint to get a grade by doing it what is the harm to anyone? God bless Tamara |

My Dearest RC, There is absolutely no offense taken at all. I am very sorry to hear what happened to you and can see how it might color how you view some things, hard to remain unjaded I know.:) Wondering if you would care to enlighten me about the erroneous teachings of Dispensationalism? Not looking for a debate I promise you, I will be open to a new view than mine. Please email me at whatdoyoubelieve@hotmail.com. I am a Dispensationalist who believes in an Historical Futuristic view of Revelation based on Revelation 1:3,9, I am also a Pre-Millenialist. However, there are elements of what people call Dispensationalist, Historical Futurist that I don't agree with as they are currently being taught. As I said, I am not looking to debate, maybe just ask you questions since you have been around for a while and try to understand your views. Just a thought, hat lady |

Dear RC, No problem I will be wanting to write you back of course don't worry I always write back, character flaw I think. You got me wondering already what it realy matters how old the theology is, that smacks of holding to the traditions of the church fathers and the chruch above the higher authority of the Bible. I could care very little how old it is, only if is correct, but we will be getting into that after you finish teaching me what you know if that is ok with you. email me HAT LADY GOD BLESS |

97 | Christians Demon Plagued? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205646
Dear Forum members, I have a friend from school who is a minister in a Pentecostal church, I am Baptist always have been always will be. I went to a function at his church tonight to fellow ship with him and his lovely wife. I heard a number of things I have heard before that I wonder if some of you know more about than I do... Here is the deal; the visiting preacher was talking about a situation where a member of his church who had confessed the Lord Jesus and asked for forgiveness of sins was plagued by demons. Here is what she was doing that was the outward sign, she stripped naked to the nothingness of nakedness several times during services while he was preaching very quickly before the ushers could stop her. This man is an arch-bishop of a Pentecostal church, he had interviewed this woman to make sure she was saved as best he could and had baptized her immediately after her profession of faith and repentance the same day she confessed the Lord Jesus. The deacons in his church were highly upset saying how very fast she took all those clothes off, remarking that she never had any undergarments to hinder her haste and saying as how she seemed to be a demon plagued Christian and some said a demon possesed Christian. I am not so stupid or so new as to think that a Christian could actually have the spirit of the devil and the Holy Ghost at the same time. He never said she was possesed, he said she was demon plagued and that the demon had to be cast out of her in the name of Jesus before her sanity returned to her. We know from the Bible that folks who are saved can actually do things by the spirit of Satan, like Peter did and still be saved, which means the spirit of Satan is operating through them, working through them, even though they are sealed by the Holy Ghost. What do you all think of this? Do you see anything here according to what I have said that you could illuminate by the scriptures on? God's Blessings Tam |

98 | Christians Demon Plagued? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205657
Dear Cheri, My friend did not preach a visiting Arch-Bishop did... I am not talking about Peter's denial I am talking about Mathe 16:23 where Peter had said to Jesus God, forbid it Lord! This shall never happend to You? About Jesus saying He was going to be crucifed. How do you say Peter was not sealed with the Holy Spirit? Are you saying that the disciples, the OT saints somehow got saved without the actions and work inside them of the Holy Spirit? What about the teaching that the blood of Christ and the works of the Holy Spirit towards salvation were working backwards in time from the of the cross and that Pentecost was specifically as Jesus said it was, "you will recieve power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses, etc."? What about Ephesians 1:13? In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation - having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. How then is it that those who were saved before Jesus died whether disciples or OT saints did not receive the Holy Spirit? If you do not have the Holy Spirit you aren't saved! Here, II Peter 1:21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. Are you going to say that these men were not operating by the power of the Holy Spirit, or that they weren't saved? Jesus does not say in Acts that He was giving a seal of salavtion does He? He says the Holy Spirit will be coming with power so they could witness, there is a difference, the Holy Spirit was definitely working through them all when they were casting out demons and healing the sick... By what other power do you think they were doing it? Yeah okay Turetz, then why after they got they demon out of her was she suddenly healed? God's Day To You, Tamara |

99 | Evidenc of Signs in 2008 Valid? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205724
My dearest Jim, Did you read Pastor Moran's post? Most informing and intersting observations - namely that there is a question in the textual study area of whether or not the end of Mark should even be in the NT at all, that is why in every Bible it appears in brackets (I think I submitted a post not to long ago in answer to someone about this very thing). Since this portion of Mark is still to this day held in question as to whether it belongs in the NT taking it and runnig forward with it is not reccommended by commentators. As to posion, we should never say poison refers to a substance not intended by the original author, I highly doubt if that passage belongs in the NT that Mark meant bad food, I think he meant real poison, like a draught of poison. I think we should also try to look at the whole text there in the end of Mark in the light of the whole rest of what we can find in scripture that there is to see. For instance the use of tongues is not seen through out the NT as a sign of those who have believed consistently after the groups were added in Acts. And we don't here much about casting out demons either. This came up about the same verse in another post a few days ago and Pastor Moran remarked then, that we can't leave out the list of the other gifts as signs that people have believed. Making sense of things literaly must always also take into consideration the other texts that apply to the understanding of the principle to be arrived at as to an application. Some of the scriptures you came up with go off the general page in terms of hitting on the subject matter, but I can understand from reading carefully what you wrote how you got where you got. God's Love To You, Tamara |
