1 | Doc about that Us and Our wrong question | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203814
Thanks Doc... Hey thanks for spending the time with a new jack, been walking in the Lord for 10 years and trying to make sure I can find the scriptures for why I believe what I believe. I am going to school for the Bible but not seminary or college. I keep pushing myself because I literaly lost my mind and got diagnosed with all kinds of stuff for two years. The only thing that would clear up my symptoms was trying to craft sermons and articles, I would stop slurring my speech and be able to think straight. I finaly threw the pills away and dedicated the whole thing to God and got completely healed no more hallucinations etc. Now that I see that the Lord God is pushing me to study I can't give it up because every time I don't I get physically sick or mentally sick, this has been ever since I got out of the hopsital in 1995. I was in there because my kidneys imploded like nova stars. I was unconscious and Jesus was there and He said to me, you have not walked with me,and you don't konw me very well, but you got saved in 1982, do you want to come home, or do you want to go back out and bring me fruit? I said I want to bring you fruit Lord Jesus. I woke up and was told I was still dying and the Nephrologist came and said I am Catholic but I believe in the blood of Jesus. Who are you? I said I am a child of the most high God and I believe in the blood of Jesus. He said then pray for a miracle because there is no donor for you, they want to cut your kidneys out and dialyze you until you die in 7 years. I don't care what your denomination is tell me why you believe. I told him what happened while I was under and that I had asked Jesus for salvation after repenting in 1982 but never read the Bible or went to church to find out about how to walk with Jesus. He told me to start reading the NT and he dialyzed the junk out for 30 days and 30 nights. On the 30th day he says you aren't making it your organs are melting go back and ask the Father what to pray. I cried and went back to the room and prayed Father in the name of Jesus what should I pray. I heard a thought, pray to the Holy Spirit, for you know not what to pray as you ought to pray. I prayed Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus what should I pray? The thought came immediately, Pray to the Father that Jesus will heal your kidneys and do God's work in your body so that you can get out of the hospital and do God's work. Now, Doc, I prayed, but doubted, but the very next morning the doctors were surrounding my bed and the Catholic Nephrologist was there. And they kept on saying this cannot be her, where is the surgical scar? And the Catholic Nephrologist said I keep on telling you, it is not possible for her kidneys to have regenerated because there were no more compartments and the blood vessels inside were almost completely gone. And I keep on saying to you that this is a real medical miracle. That morning Doc, my kidneys were miraculously healed, and I was able to get out of the hosiptal on the 40th day as if I had been on the Ark. My story is longer than this and it was a long way to full recovery. But things come in seasons and for a long time I had a season of praise in song until my voice left. And for a long time I had a season of grace giving and now I am in a season of studing that God has seemed to require of me. I do it out of love, but I also do it out of obedience to love the Lord your God with all your heart all your mind and all your soul. God bless Doc tell me your testimony sometime I have more to tell, I had a season of miracles. By the way I am a Baptist not a Pentecostal(some think I am a charismatic, but I don't)www.whatdoyoubelieve@hotmail.com Tamara

Doc, thanks for the bit from Josephus and the link for that sermon. I hear you that Christ is on every page... The course was about theophanies of Christ and types of Christ in the OT. Trying to see still how what happened at the tower of Babel fits that criteria... See how man being sinful and trying to reach heaven without redemption has to do with Christ though.

Yeah Doc, thanks for another link. I said Reformed or Evangelical because not all Evangelicals are Reformed! I was reading about these doctrines because of this one professor who is the source of most of those questions from Sunday (notice that most were related?. I did a bit of exegesis on one verse for the Cultural Mandate and was able to show that the verse did not support it. Which is why he countered with the supposed Mandate to use Wisdom to evangelize, for which he had absolutely no scriptures at first. But later tried to give examples of Jesus using wisdom to counter the Pharisees and the Beatitudes as the wisdom of Jesus doing evangelism to save (?), and the wisdom of the parables. saying it all leads people to God because it causes them to think and it apealed to their ability to intellectualy grasp the gospel in order to get saved.

Oh Thanks a bunch Doc for the encouragement as you know I am a bit of a regular mensch and would love a very detailed follow up with attending scriputres. Which,Laugh OUT Loud, you may not have time for! But which I seriously am searching for real answers for. I have to go back to some of your links and remember to write down the specific things I am supposed to be looking for in the myriad of subjects that are there in their search engines. Today was the last day of class for the Introduction to Theology course and he said and I quote (I was careful to ask him respectfuly three times, one for each part, carefuly writing it down),"knowledge and wisdom are the basis for our faith and the basis for our salvation, the knowledge of Christ's atonement brings the wisdom that has to be believed in order to be saved, and the Law gives us knowledge and the wisdom of faith". He gave Proverbs 22:17-19 and Galatians 3:22-24. Before answering he told me to present an argument if I liked, I said I have argued this enough outside of class, I want to learn from you exactly what you are trying to teach us here. Thank you Doc for settling this matter. This is important information, for instance I was given a bunch of scriptures for Types of Christ in the OT, that I think are eisegesis; Israel the nation as a type for Christ - Hosea 1:11,Mathew 1:25, the Temmple of Solomon as a type for Christ - Ezekiel 11:16, 37:26, Psalm 11:42, the sacrifices of Israel as a type for Christ - Hosea 13:14, Psalm 40, the priest as a type for Christ - Psalm 110, 70, Deuteronomy 32:43, the savior as a type for Christ Numbers 20:16, Ezekiel 33:2,3, the covenant as a type for Christ - Genesis 15, 22. This is the kind of thing that was also happening in this class. Agape, Tamara
6 | Gift of Wisdom and gift of Knowledge? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203936
Thanks John, you got me to thinking about Exodus 28:3 where people were given the spirit of God to do craftsmanship for the making of the tabernacle. And Ephesians 1:17 where it says, that the God or our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of the revelation in the knowledge of Him. But what confused me John was how Paul talks in I Corinthians 2:1-8 that the wisdom of God is Jesus Christ and His crucifixion, not the wisdom gained from knowledge and wondered if that had any bearing on the gift of wisdom? I should have mentioned that in my first go at it. But thanks a bunch, God Bless Tamara
7 | Acts 13:1 | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203965
I am late catching on how this site works and did not see this note you left me, sorry for the delay writing back. I have actualy had the priveldge of working for an SDA who was a very good person and have had the pleasure of talking about this concept with a number of SDA. What they all like to ignore is that the Bible both OT and NT use the word sleep as a euphimism for death and this is not news, this is old. Just becuase one says that a particular verse is being taken out of context and someone does not like it does not mean that it isn't. Ok Solomon seemed to have no concept of an afterlife, but Job did - after my flesh is gone and I die I will see my Redeemer, and David did - my soul shall not see decay, and so did others in the OT. All of the passages in the NT like Jesus talking about Jairus daughter being asleep and Lazarus being asleep prove that this was just a familiar phrase of speech meaning death in the time of Jesus... I think we do others a discervice if we aren't willing to defend the faith and there are people who don't like it because they disagree on some of the minor and major points about what Christians believe. We should be willing as Christians to talk about the hard passages and the easy passages in order to get at what scripture has to say. Let me ask you something, is showing what a text means in the language the people were speaking at the time shooting down someone else's theology? Or is it bringing out something that is there to be seen in the text if one is willing to remain open to a new view? And if something truly has no basis in scripture as to what the author's intent was or what the particulars of his audience is, is pointing that out shooting down theology, or clarifying it? I am not going to touch the works bit with a ten foot pole becuase you don't seem willing to discuss it for real yourself and I am not here to judge anyone, that is not the point of doing theology or talking about theology. The point of discussing theology is to clarify what one believes about God as theology is the study of God. I am and have been engaged and so is everyone esle in here, including you, been having discussions about God, and that is part of doing theology, not tearing down theology. Why shouldn't you be willing to defend the works position if that is what you believe? There is nothing wrong in taking a stance, we are adults here and should be able to discuss things honestly and without reserve as Christians who love one another. I can be tolerant of your differing beliefs and love you at the same time as disagreeing strongly with you, that is one facet of Christian love. Don't assume that just because someone has a strong opinion on something that they haven't talked to people who believe that other view or that they are being intolorant of others. There is a warning in here against being deviceve with one another, I don't think that stating what we believe is the truth should be seen as deviceve. I think deviceveness comes in when we say things that are purposefuly harmful or hurtful to another Christian about what they believe, not pointing out a difference or saying we find no basis in scripture for this or that or that something is out of context. 10 | Knowing gay minister unequally yoked? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 204018
Dear Quvmoh, Yeah I agree whole heartedly that the Bible condemns homosexuality out right and the qualifications for a minister/ overseer are the husband of one wife... The issue was most definetely self evident, although I wonder just how evident it is to the professor, he says he is just now getting ready to tell this minister that he is in rebellion against God. Gotta wonder why that would take three years to say... As to the verse about being unequally yoked; II Corininthians 6:14-16 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? The context is any relationship, not just marriage. Paul of course tells us in another passage this; I Corinthians 5:9--11 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolators, for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler - not even to eat with such a one. Somehow this professor thinks he will win this man by hanging out with him and being his friend. And after three years of heated face to face and email discussion the professor has not taken it to the church (although they may not be in the same church), or taken a second brother with him to confront this man on his sin; Mathew 8:15,16 If your borther sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. God bless and thanks for your reply, Tamara

Dear John, thanks for the link, I appreciate that John. This is a question that comes up often when I am talking to middle eastern Muslims, New York is full of em. I had tried to get Doc, Hank and Lionheart to take a look at my Islam tracts in order to give me an opinion of the contents, but got no answers back. I need help with this issue of answering their accusations and observations instead of continually telling them that if they don't take Jesus blood they are going to hell. That doesn't address their concerns about their inability to believe what our scriptures say. I don't assume you will be interested in helping out with this, but if you are my email drop is; whatdoyoubelieve@hotmail.com. God Bless, Tamara
13 | Acts 13:1 | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 204203
Dear Jamison, plese don't keep quiet! This is an open forum and I am willing to hear what other Christians veiw things like. I don't know which part of the thread you caught, somewhere in there I acknowledged that they get this belief from a number of verses later on in the thread. In that same note I said that Jesus used the word sleep as a euphimism and that so did those in the OT use it as a euphimism. Somehow we need to find out not what our context is based on our theology, but what the historical context of the authors and the subjects of the stories were in order to understand how they were using the words. That should be driving how we understand what they said, not our theology today. It is your business if you see something say it, we are all trying to understand the Bible, there is room for unity in tolerance and room for unity in coming to understanding what each of us views things like. God Bless, Tamara
14 | How do these accounts reconcile? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 204206
Ok Doc point taken, when we evangelize our sucess depends not on whether they take the word they received and get saved, but whether or not we did what we were commanded. Is that why you included Luke 17:9,10? Oh, my I hope you don't think I was looking for browny points... Someone else who looked at the tracts felt it was too much information at one time. God Bless, Tamara

Dear John, Pondered what you said here for about a while I guess. Here is what I was able to try to peice together; 2)On context; Angels, Mathew has one angel sitting on a stone outside the tomb, Mark has one angel sitting to the right in the tomb, Luke and John have two angels inside the tomb. There may have been three angels. There were perhaps two or three angels around at first when the women came one was standing on the stone, they didn't see the other one, or ones inside the tomb. The writers only metioned the angel who spoke in some accounts. When Peter and John came they saw the two angels inside and maybe one was hanging out side and had moved off the stone and stood by the door. 3)On context; Mary sees Jesus first at the tomb and then goes and tells the disciples immediately in John, Mary sees Jesus first after leaving the tomb in Mark, The disciples see Jesus first at the place where they were away from the tomb in Mathew, the two on the road to Emmaus are the first to see Jesus in Luke. Perhaps Mary saw Jesus twice, once at the tomb and once on the way back to the disciples. Every account has someone different seeing Jesus first or in a differnt place because they were writing telling the story from a different point of view. 4)On context; Mary goes alone in John, Mary goes with the other Mary in Mathew, Mary goes with three women in Mark, Mary goes with a group of women more than three in Luke. All the women were there it's just that some writers only mention the woman who does the speaking and others simply only mention some of them. God Bless, the hat lady |

Dear John thanks for the further clarification as to where you are at. This is not an adomonition to you John, just an observation. Lionheart said something interesting to someone about reconciling things... He said that it is important to reconcile what appear to be conflicting accounts, or scriptures because of what Paul was saying to Timothy; II Timothy 2:15, 3:16,17 and II Peter 1:19-21. I hear you about not speculating and that you don't engage in it. But there is nothing unBiblical (not that you were saying there was) about attempting to reconcile accounts, or apparently conflicting scriptures based on who the author was, his intent in writing, who his audience was, what the subject matter was and how different authors in the Bible address the subject. It is all part of proper exegesis John (not trying to push you around here, sincerely). I am not offended, every one sees things through the central motif of their own theologial lens... I hear your concern about the over arching message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are plenty of concerns a person could legitmately have about the Bible than just the end message. The Bible has a lot of parts and there are a whole lot of areas of study concerning the Bible that go into varying aspects of the message. The history in the Bible, the actors in the play, the long progression of how the end message came to be, and on and on. I personally am interested in every facet of these things as they all pretain to or have bearing on the central message you are concerned with. There is room in the body of Christ for a great amount of diversity in all things pretaining to Christ and everything you could possibly study about the Bible is ultimately about Christ. I respect your point of view and it accounts for the content of a whole lot of your replies in answer to some of my questions and notes. Thank you for the clarification for the second time (I think). Ephesians 1:9,10 He has made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heaven and things in the earth. All things will be summed up in Christ, us together as members of one another and the body of Christ and each of our own dedication to understanding the word of God to the full. God Bless, the hat lady |

18 | What does God want other than 'obedience | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 204440
Welcome! Just adding my two cents in Try these Mathew 22:37-39 the two great commandments centering around love I John 4:15,16 about the need to confess Jesus and believing in the love of God and that abiding in love is abiding in God and God abides in the believer. The others are right too, we were created to worship God and to give Him glory. God Bless, Tamara |

19 | Does God want us to belong to one church | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205067
Dear Lionheart, Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. Of course this doesn't say that you have to remain in the same church, but it does say we should not forsake fellow shipping together. Of course there are those who do not believe this is true, like Harold Camping, who believes the age of the chruch is over and that you would be better off in a whore house (his words, not mine). However, if we were to take the first century church as our model, then it would seem that folks belonged to particular gatherings, house churches, met regulary, had names of churches they belonged to and so forth. I would take that as my model, that it is a good thing to be in one congregation after a careful search and remain there. The reason is, you will experience the dification and reciprocate it to your brethren of the body of Christ over a prolonged period of time and that is essential to your growth as a Christian. If you dont' belong to a particular church, and you are going about from church to church you may become like a waterless cloud, lacking sound foundations for lack of a consistent diet on consistent doctrine and consistent relationships where you will be required to engage in the working out of your salvation. Fellow ship in one congregation is essential to the full Christian expereience in my experience. I was in a church for 6 years and then left out to go see about other churches and church hopped for 4 years because I was having trouble with my family in church. I left a good church and was never satisfied with the doctrinal teaching I exposed myself to and went back despite family problems and will never be leaving again, it has been 4 years since I went back to my church home. There is one other very good reason not to go floating around as a husband and wife, or even as a single believer, accountability to the body of Christ to follow Christ. When you as husband and wife, or even as a single person stay in one place you are accountable for your actions as a Christian to the body of Christ and not just to Christ. God's Day to you, Tamara |

Dear Jeff, Am I to understand that you mean for this woman to wear a hat if her husband is saved, but not if he isn't? Or that she should simply wear a hat because she is a married woman? You have me very curious as to what you are saying here. Note to forum members; this is not an attempt to bring up the hat issue agains as if it had not been discussed, but is an attempt to udnerstand Jeff's position on the scripture he gave as advice to Sissy. God's day to you Jeff, Tamara the hat lady |
