81 | What is "persevering to the end?" | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 30204
Brother Eagle One: I agree that we are overcomers in Christ. "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am pursuaded, that neither principlalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shal be able to separate us from the love of Godwhich is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8 37-39) God bless you Robert |

82 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64142
Dear Friends The words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matt. 7 teach us some basic and important trues. Our Savior presents a series of contrasts: a) Two ways b) Two trees c)Two professions d) Two foundations In this chapter we find that the people of this world are divided into two groups, those who belong to Christ and those who don't. In v. 13-14 The Lord Jesus talks about the narrow gate and the narrow way which leadeth unto life in contrast to the wide gate and the broadway which leads to destruction. We are born on the broadway and to stay on that path all we have to do is keep travelling and ignore the call of God by his Spirit. The narrow way is a way which is entered by those who rest their all upon the finished work of Christ on the cross, they have entered by the door which is Christ John 10:9 and are travelling the only way to heaven which is through Christ alone. In verses 15-20 Jesus speaks about fruit in the life of professing believers and he warns them to "beware of false prophets. A good tree does not give evil fruit nor can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. In other words if I profess to know Christ as my Saviour and do not show the fruit of the Spirit in my life in some measure, than it would appear that I am not in Christ at all. I may simply have an empty profession which will not stand in the test of eternity. Jesus carries this thought into v. 21-24 as he compares two professions. There are those who profess to do things in his name, even great things and yet they will hear these words "depart from me I never knew you. "I never knew you" means that these people never knew Christ as their savior. They may have lived a religious life, but missed the most important person of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. These words cause us to search the foundation of our salvation; is it founded on Christ? In v. 24-27 The Lord Jesus speaks about two foundations. First, we have the house build on the rock and when the rains, floods and winds, came it stood firm because it was founded on the solid rock. In contrast, we have the house built on sand. Outwardly it looked as nice as the house on the rock with one fatal difference, its foundation was on the sand. When the rain, the floods and the winds came it fell because it was founded only on sand. Jesus is the rock upon which the the believer builds the moment they trust in Christ and as such the winds, and rains which come upon them may shake them, but they stand on the rock. The sand would represent those who are not on the rock, they live a decent life, do good works, call themselves christian and yet they have never rested on the rock Christ Jesus for Salvation. I believe in this chapter the Lord Jesus is underlining the importance of reality, the importance of being on the narrow road, the importance of bring forth fruit in our lives, the importance of knowing Christ as savior and the absolute necessity for one to be all of these things they must be built and resting upon the rock Christ Jesus. On Christ Salvation rest secure The Rock of ages must endure, Nor can the faith be overthrown Which rests upon the living stone! Praise his name Robert |

83 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64457
FTimA: The book of James is written to Christians. You have referred to James 5:19-20 regarding the erring brother. "Brethren if any of you do err(wander) from the truth, and one convert him (or turn him back) Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" The example given by James is a brother who has received the truth, but has gone astray. When a saint goes astray and gets away from the Lord, those which are spiritual have a responsiblity to try and restore such a person back to the truth and to God. Sin in a Christian's life does not put them outside the family of God, but clouds our daily fellowship with God and with fellow believers. When a person is restored they are prevented from carrying on sinning and away from God, thus a multitude of sins are prevented from happening at all. To save their soul from death does not refer to eternal death which the unbeliever will suffer, but rather physical death which can be a result of persistent disobedience and dishonor to the testimony of Christ. The Lord loves us too much to allow us to carry on without discipline. we read "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Heb. 12:6 Examples of this are seen in Acts 5:5-10 regarding Ananius and Sapphira who lied to to God and thought they could deceive him. The second example is found in 1 Cor. 11: 27-30 regarding those who partaking of the Lord's supper unworthly and Paul writes "For this cause many are weak and sickly among you and manny sleep.(are dead) It is a serious business to purposely dishonor the Lord and rather than allow us to carry on in disobedience he may see fit to take us home to heaven. In 2 Peter 3: 17,18 This is also written to "beloved" saints who are born again. First, he gives them a word of warning v. 17 and in V. 18 an exhortation. Paul wants them to stay focussed on Christ and not to be turned aside by the false teachers of the day which we cover in Chapter 2. The Christian is not exempt from the three fold enemy the world, the flesh, and the devil. None of the three can ever take from us the life which is eternally ours in Christ, but they can spoil our life for God on this earth. Stedfastness as in V.19 is there consistent and faithful life. The scriptures make it clear that those who are saved should never become complacent in their lives. we are warned to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8. Our motive in faithfulness to Christ is not to preserve the security we have in him, but rather to bring glory and honor to him in our lives. Peace in his name Robert |

FTimA: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" 1 John 1:7 When a lost sinner rests their all or puts their trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross their sins are forgiven and they are cleared of all guilt before God. Rom. 5:1 All our sins are forgiven, not in part, but the whole and God as he looks on the big picture sees us "in Christ in the heavenlies" Eph. 1:3 From a practical view Christians cannot live a perfect life "if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us" 1 John 1:8 1 John is written to children in the family of God and chp 1 is speaking of fellowship with God. He has given us his Spirit to make us overcomers 1 John 4:4. As in any family relationship if a child disobeys his father it can result in a loss of communication or fellowship until the problem is resolved. Likewise, when a child of God sins, it can mar fellowship with the father, but we are reminded that "if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins...: 1 John1:9 and in 1 John 2:1-2 we are reminded that "if any sin we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous. You are correct in your last statement. "Sin separates us from God..." When God by his grace saved us our sins were forgiven and we are cleared of all guilt because Christ is our substitute and was made sin for us. All my sins were future when Christ died and he has paid the price in full. "We are bought with a price and we are not our own" and as such it should be our desire to live a life that would glorify him. Robert |

85 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64504
Good morning Estelle: I agree with you that when we allow things in our lives which take us away from God we become miserable and want to make it right. I believe this is the normal Christian life. We experience the mountains and the valleys, but know that Christ is with us all the way. I would suggest however, in the case of a person who wilfully and habitually turns from Christ, that if they are truly his that he will chasten them. His chastening is preventative rather than punitive. As in the case of those in 1 Cor. 11 whom Paul speaks about, it would appear that they died. Their deaths were not punitive but preventative in that the Lord could not allow them to continue in wilful disobedience. I believe this is the thought that James is teaching in James 5:19-20. Your brother in Christ Robert |

86 | well then let iron sharpen iron | Matt 24:14 | Robert Nicholson | 54412
Justme In Acts 1 we read about the Lord Jesus taken up into heaven. His loved ones were wondering when he would set up his kingdom. The risen Christ made it clear to them that this time was in his father's care. No matter how much we try to speculate on various world events we will never know until the promise given to his disciples is fulfilled. Think of them as they stared upward as their is taken up and are given this message "Ye men of Galilee why stand gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus which is taken up from your into heaven, shall come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" Acts 1:11 I believe all who belong to Christ look forward to that day when he will come. However, we may suffer much before that time will come. In the meanwhile we are to watch expectantly for him as we labor for him. As a father and grandfather it is my desire that loved ones will come to Christ will there is still opportunity. The most tragic thing is for a person who is in a place of opportunity to miss Christ. God bless you Robert |

87 | Mark 10:1-52 | Mark | Robert Nicholson | 36380
This is a very long chapter with many topics. In the first part we have the question of divorce and remarriage v. 1-12 However, in the remainder of the chapter we have three ways people were kept away from Jesus. V. 13-15 Children told to be quiet and leave Jesus alone. Too young? V. 17- 22 A young man kept away from Jesus because of his love of his material riches. V 46-52 A blind beggar who would not allow anything to keep him from Christ. This is only brief, however there are great truths found in each of these accounts. A good commentary would give you a more comprehensive outline. God bless you in your teaching Robert |

88 | When will Christ come in Kingdom Power? | Mark 9:1 | Robert Nicholson | 43791
I believe that Christ will come in power and glory at the end of the great tribulation as seen in Rev. 19 :11-21 At this time he will crush the beast and his armies. We find that the Beast and the false prophet are cast into a lake of fire and Satan is bound for a thousands years. Rev. 20:3 At this time Christ will judge the nations of earth and reign in righeousness for 1000 years Rev. 20:6 |

89 | He is risen! | Mark 16:6 | Robert Nicholson | 68191
Dear fellow believers: "Behold the place where they laid him" The open tomb reminds that he is not there, he is risen! The bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ shows God's satisfaction in the sacrifice of his Son at Calvary! Ye seek Jesus of Nazarath who was crucified: he is not here: behold the place where they laid him" Mark 16:6 An empty tomb, a risen Savior is the testimony that "he finished the work which thou gavest him to do" John 17:4 and he is the victor as he cried "Finished!!" John 19:30 What was finished? The work which God gave him to do! We rejoice today in a living Savior who is seated at the right hand of God, he is the Name which is above all other names and we rejoice that by his Spirit he has called us, redeemed us and that he is coming again for us. May we praise his precious name! As we look on this, the things of time and sense should become dim. I rejoice in Christ, my Savior who is seated at the right hand on God. Robert |

91 | Mary is Sinless? | Luke 2:24 | Robert Nicholson | 31850
I am not throwing stones at the Catholic Church. However, Mary was a sinner like you and I. When the angel gave her this meassage "Hail thou art highly favored, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women." Luke 1:28 Mary not because of any merit of her own experienced the grace of God in that she was the chosen vessel to bring his only Son into the world. She could say "my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior" The genealogy of Mary is traced back to Adam in Luke 3:23-38 and is the fulfilment of Gen. 3:15 in which we find that through the seed of the women the deliverer shall come. It is amazing that God by his grace has used ordinary humans to bring about his plans and purposes. In the case of Mary she was the vessel upon whom the Holy Spirit came and she had the blessing of being the one throught whom the Son of God, God manifest in the flesh should come. The important thing to remember is that there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.(1 Tim. 2:5) It is Christ who is the saviour of sinners, it is he who links the sinner to God by faith in his sacrifice alone. Mary like all who love Christ was redeemed by his precious blood. |

92 | Take Up Our Cross: What does it mean? | Luke 9:23 | Robert Nicholson | 67231
Dear One: Thank you for your response. In following Jesus we are exhorted "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." ( 1 Thess. 5:18) Would you not say that we have to be willing to accept what God has given us which may include various trials in live? Paul writes: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."(1 Cor. 10:13) You mentioned that "we must take up our cross" and that part of this is to deny ourselves. I enjoy the thought in Romans 6:17-18 that before we were saved we were "servants to sin" and now in Christ we are freed from sin and "became servants of righteousness" I was also thinking that "when we follow him" we have to ask the question "In a spiritual sense where is he"? In Hebrews we find a similar thought "Let us go therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach" Heb.13:13 The Lord Jesus Christ as far as this world is concerned is still in a place of rejection and to identify with him we will suffer reproach for his name. When I read your last paragraph the words of Jesus came to mind "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matt.6:33) May God bless you and your daughter in your work with children. Robert |

93 | Jesus taught "absolutes" re- eternity | Luke 13:3 | Robert Nicholson | 72313
Our Lord Jesus Christ made some statements which are "absolutes" in light of eternity. # 1 "...unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."( Luke 13:3) Jesus was discussing the Galileans who were murdered by Pilate and also eighteen people who were killed when the tower in Siloam fell on them. The question was "were these people greater sinners and as a result died an untimely death" Jesus made it absolutely clear, NO! and then gives this solumn warning: "except you repent you shall likewise perish" What is repentance? Repentance is not simply feeling sorry for our sins. It is a change of mind and will which is brought about from within our hearts as the Spirit of God reveals to us our lost and sinful condition through his word. When I repent, I bow to the God's view of me as "ungodly and without strength" (Romans 5:6) it is at this point I am made aware of my great need of a Savior which is found in Christ alone. These wonderous words say it all "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." (Romans 5:6) #2 "...Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."(John 3:3) This message to Nicodemus would show to us that in our natural condition we cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. To this man a teacher of the teachers was a humbling statement, since he was a man of integrity and very religious, to find out that unless he is born from above he cannot enter God's kingdom. Nicodemus is confused, but Jesus unfolds the truth to him by discussing old testament events which pictured the coming Saviour and his work on the cross. In John 3:14 Jesus makes this imperative: "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up" Why must he be lifted up? "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:15) This does not refer to believing about him, accepting his historicity, but is an act of faith whereby the lost sinner who has repented, rests "his all" upon the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. As a result of placing faith in the finished work of Christ we "have eternal life"v15.(present possession) Jesus summerizes "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath no believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" (John 3:18) Is it any wonder that Peter makes this statement? "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) Robert |

94 | Who Then Can Be Saved? | Luke 18:26 | Robert Nicholson | 36449
Brother Joe: Regarding the "eye of a needle" Easton's Bible Dictionary defines the expresssion: "used only in the proverb, "to pass through a needle's eye" (Matthew 19:24; Mark 10:25; Luke 18:25). Some interpret the expression as referring to the side gate, close to the principal gate, usually called the "eye of a needle" in the East; but it is rather to be taken literally." It was not my intention to intimate that man can in any way earn his own salvation. I agree it is all of God. I was thinking more of repentance, in which the rich man would have to turn against his coveteousness or love of his riches before he could follow Jesus. Thanks Robert |

95 | please explain this verse for me | Luke 23:43 | Robert Nicholson | 40537
Roberhart: Please consider the following The psalmist writes concerning the Lord Jesus: "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." When Jesus died his body was buried in the new tomb of Joseph of Arimitha and his soul went to hell or better rendered "hades" Hades was the place of departed spirits and consisted of a compartment of comfort and a compartment in which was torment. Up until the time of Christ those who died in faith went to paradise located in hades which is sometimes referred to as Abraham's bosum. Read Luke 16: 19-31 However, we find the triumph of the resurrection of Christ "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive (or lead a multitude of captives) and gave gifts to men. Now that he ascended, what ist but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all heavens, that he might fill all things" ( Eph. 4:8-10) It is suggested that when the Lord Jesus ascended he trimphantly emptied the comfort side of paridise transferring those who had died in faith into the third heaven the abode of God which you have point out. In other words Jesus was the last man to descend into paradise and after his resurrection he ascended to the right hand of his father above. Those believers who have died since the cross "are absent from the body and present with the Lord" Praise his name. |

97 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | Robert Nicholson | 65888
davidxisted: I believe you have the correct take on 1 Peter 3:18-20 In v. 19 "By which" in this verse refers back to the Spirit at the end of v.18 which I believe is the Holy Spirit. "By which (the Holy Spirit) (God) spoke to the spirits in prison". I believe these are people or spirits who are now in prison in view of v20" Which (Who) sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah..." As Noah built the ark, he was a preacher to righteousness (1 Peter 2:5) to those who God was dealing with before the flood. In Gen 6:3 "God said my Spirit shall not always strive with man..." These people of Noah's day were disobedient to the Holy Spirit and except for 8 souls all were eternally lost. This question about our Lord Jesus Christ has been viewed from many angles, some from the scripture while others from our imagination. What does the scriptures say? In the old testament scriptures God speaks about his Son after death "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell(hades); neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption" ( Psalm 16:10) Where is hades or What is hades? Strong's word "hades" # 86 refers to the place of departed Spirits after their physical death. A later use speaks of the grave. We know that when Jesus died he went to Paradise and his body was put in Josephs new tomb. Peter reminds us of this "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell(hades), neither did his flesh see corruption. (Acts 2:31) Our Lord Jesus Christ also spoke of "hades" in Luke 16: 19-31 He shows it to be the place of departed spirits and that it is divided into 2 sections, one man was in torment while the other was comforted in Abraham's bosum. Jesus made it clear that between the two their was a great divide, in other words our eternal destiny is determined before we die. On the cross with confidence the Lord Jesus Christ said to the dying thief "Today shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43) Jesus knew exactly where he was going after death. People have been asking "did Jesus suffer in hell (hades)after his death"? The scriptures only speak of the suffering of Christ upon the cross, first at the hands of men and secondly and more terribly at the hands of God when he was made sin for us. (Isaiah53:5) When those dark hours of suffering were over Jesus spoke with a loud voice a very important statement "It is Finished!"(John 19:30) What did he mean? He meant that the work on the cross was Complete! Never again would he suffer for sin because on the cross he satisfied the holy claims of God against sin. It is also noteworthy and important to note that when the work was finished our Saviour commended himself to God and dismissed his own spirit. (Luke23:46) It was an act of rest for Jesus as his spirit went to the comfort of paradise. We know that his body was placed in the tomb and that it never saw corruption because of his perfections. After 3 days he is resurrected from the dead, fourty days later he is taken up into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God. (Heb. 1:3) Where is paradise know? Christians today in this age are absent from the body and present with the Lord(2Cor. 5:8) Paul speaks of being caught up into the third heaven or being caught up into paradise. (1Cor. 12:2-4 What about the souls of Abraham who were at comfort in Abraham's bosom? It has been suggested that Ephesians 4:8-10 refers to Christ as he ascends on high he takes the souls of the redeemed with him and that they are now present with the Lord. "Never more shall God, Jehovah Smite the Shepherd with the sword; Never again shall cruel sinners Set at nought our glorious Lord! Praise his worthy name! Robert |

99 | is jesus god? | John 1:1 | Robert Nicholson | 43853
Juthcrst1 The Bible makes it very clear that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The subject of the Godhead is an awesome truth which transcends the capablitity of finite minds. Nevertheless, God in his word has shown us that " For there are three which bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost and these three are one (1John 5:7) At his baptism, as the Lord Jesus was lifted "out of the water, the heavens opened, and Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Mark 1: 10,11) Jesus demonstrated that he is God manifest in the flesh in the fact that he was able to forgive sins. In Mark 2:5 Jesus declared to a man sick of palsey, "Son thy Sins be forgiven thee". Immediately the scribes reasoned in their hearts, accusing Jesus of blasphemy and in their derision spoke the truth "who can forgive sins, but God only: (v8) Jesus responded with an answer to their reasonings, "That you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins" (V10) He then healed the sick man of his palsy. The writer of the Hebrews writes "Who (Jesus) being in the brightness (effulgence ) of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high (Heb. 1:3) The Son of God is co-equal and co-eternal, indeed he could say "he that hath seen me hath seen the father" (John 14:9b) Why did Jesus not tell people directly "I am God"? Jesus had nothing to prove, his walk on this earth and his fulfilment of those things written of him in the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the "Christ of God" To the human mind his incarnation is a mystery. "Who being in the form of God, thouht it not a thing to be grasped at to be equal with God" We then read of his lowly stoop into humankind "he made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of me..." Phil. 2: 6-9 Robert |
