81 | dispensaionalism bad doctrine | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 209443
truth seeker68- having already done the research (study?) and having already arrived at a conclusion.... your question (or original post) wasn't intentionally baited was it? Not accusing, it's just from time to time we have a Lone Ranger show up here with established opinions that ask seemingly, innocent questions only to bombard the responders with prepared arguments to apparently make others look stupid and themselves "smart". It's a pride thing that almost always leaves the perpetrator with little or no credibility. You have called what many well accomplished and respected scholars believe "a false doctrine". Do you see now the reason for my warning. It's controversial and not well handled in this type of forum. Jeff |

82 | i have some questions about dispensation | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 209391
truth seeker68- welcome to the Forum! There are many of us here that can answer many questions about dispensationalism. However, it might be a better approach to type the word in the search box (upper right of your screen) and read to your heart's desire. I'm not saying that the questions can't be asked, but they might lead to a fire-storm of controversy resulting in violations of the Terms Of Use. The topic is highly controversial. Try the search box with words contained in your questions and see if you find what your looking for. God bless, Jeff |

83 | NEW message on Sodom and Gommorrah | Gen 18:20 | jlhetrick | 209367
Brother Bob- I have heard and read different things related to Sodom and Gomorrah and I'm not at all saying we shouldn't learn from the writings and teachings of others as we study. Honestly though, a straight reading beginning at Genesis 19 is better than anything else you'll find. |

84 | want your opionion | 1 Thess 4:15 | jlhetrick | 209363
Jack, not trying to be short here... opinions offer very little and regarding this topic really nothing at all that would be positive. Jesus gave two important teachings on this. Azure quoted one... No one knows. The other can be found in the book of Matthew as well. There will be signs. Opinion doesn't count... so what do we know? We know we don't know when. We know today is closer than yesterday was. We know that we need to be prepared. No one is trying to shut you down regarding your question, it's just that these topics come up from time to time; and in this format they are never beneficial and almost always problematic. There is literally so much to know and learn from what Scripture does say that it's hard to imagine that we would spend time speculating on what it doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I've done it as many here have. It's just that I wish I had the time back to do all over again. I would immerse myself in what's there and hopefully head down fewer bunny trails. God Bless, Jeff |

86 | how can we minister to homosexuals | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 209127
Tyboswell- Welcome to the forum. Keeping it short (others will reply as well) I would say that we minister to homosexuals the same way we minister to every other sinner. It's not our place to ever tell someone their going to Hell... we don't know that. If you have the opportunity to talk to any person regarding his/her particular lifestyle, the best way to do that is with the Word of God. Straight and to the point should be the rule. Otherwise we might end up thinking we can some how present it in a way (our own way) that is somehow "more effective". Contrary to a lot of approaches out there today, there is simply no better counsel than the Word of God. No method of presentation is going to improve on it. We do well to consider Matthew 7:3 as well as we witness to others. Hope this helps, Jeff |

87 | What main scripture book of romans? | Romans | jlhetrick | 209082
Sorry friend if I'm misreading you... but it really sounds like your getting answers to homework questions. If that's the case, we here frequently recommend individuals do the work first and then bring those results here for further exploration. The book of Romans has many "main scripture". My personal favorite is Romans 10:8-11. God bless, Jeff |

88 | What is the theme of the book of romans? | Romans | jlhetrick | 209080
Hello gapeach- Are your questions homework assignments? The overall theme of the book of romans is God's grace and the faithful life of the righteous. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (see Romans 3:21-28 for example) See Romans 1:16-17. We live by faith because, through His grace, God gives us the ability to do so. Much, much more can and has been said about the book of Romans as a whole, but perhaps this gets you started. God bless, Jeff |

89 | What bible is this beleaf these words in | Gen 3:21 | jlhetrick | 209077
Kcabml4 - Good job in encouraging exegesis. Also- welcome to the forum here is a hint on posting. If you have an original question tag your post as a question. If you are responding within a running thread (even if your response is in the form of a question) tag it as a note. This way the ongoing thread can be followed well by others and posts that are part of running threads do not pop up on the top of the home page as though they were new questions (or starts of new threads). Again, thank you for encouraging good exegesis. We can stand to have more of that. Thanks and God bless, Jeff |

90 | Can we conciliate Gen.1:27 with 2:7 ? | Gen 1:27 | jlhetrick | 208927
Timo... you might consider the inside or back cover of a book. It gives about a page worth of information that summarizes the content of the book (story). Then you open it up and read three or four hundred pages that give the details. Jeff |

91 | Did He mean today or someday? | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 208879
D.W.- If you haven't already, I would like to point you to the "Search" box in the upper right of your screen. You can find good responses to this question already posted... the thread starting with post 64878 for example. Just type the number in the box and hit Search and start there. Both EdB and Tim Moran give good feedback on this. After you have read everything posted your question will likely be answered. Just thought this might be helpful and faster for you since you might be a while waiting on responses to come in. Hope this helps and welcome to the Forum. Jeff |

92 | Where Joshua meets Jesus? | Joshua | jlhetrick | 208781
You may be thinking of Joshua 5:13-15 though the verses do not say that this "man" is Jesus. I have heard some argue that this was an angel, some say the angel Gabriel. Others argue that this was in fact the Lord and point to vs. 14, Joshua bows in apparent worship and vs. 15 where the person accepts that worship (does not forbid it as the ANGEL in Revelation 10:19 did) and commands the romoval of Joshua's sandals as he declares the ground holy as God did with Moses in Ex 3:5. Hope this is helpful, Jeff |

93 | What do we have as a conseqence of goda | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 208550
It's not a short answer; you will have to study the Scriptures in prayer for the big picture. Consider: 1. forgiveness 2. Reunification with God 3. salvation 4. made new 5. trials and sufferings 6. comforted .... and the list goes on. If you have a good study bible or electronic bible library you can do word and topic studies on the above to get started. As the Lord reveals Himself through His word you will be nothing short of amazed at the consequences of His grace. Hope this helps, Jeff |

96 | Christians VS Dinosaurs... whats up? | OT general | jlhetrick | 207839
HappyCamper- Welcome to the forum. Simply put, your theology is incorrect; no insult to you, lots of us are brought up being told things that just aren't true. However, it's our responsibility to seek the turth and wisdom of God as found in Scripture and not believe everyting we're told. I gather from your user profile that you already understand that. Your post is the very first time that I have ever heard anyone state that Christians do not believe in dinosaurs. Not sure where you got that information but I suspect you have confused the issue of dinosaurs with the scientific "theory" of evolution. Where this theory is in conflict with Scripture true Christians believe the Creator God vs. the thoeries of created man. Dinosaurs were flesh and bone creatures and I know of no Christian who denies that fact. As for the "creature that the women mated with? you can find that throughout Scripture beginning with Genisis. Adam was the first and with Eve. God created man and woman and ordained marriage between them as the institution through which procreation occurs. Hope this is helpful. God bless, Jeff |

Hello J.P You should contact blueletterbible.org to inquire about their site. This would be a real mess if people started offering thoughts, suggestions, speculations, etc. about another site and might even lead to a liability issue for the gracious host of this site, the Lockman Foundation. Please feel free to repost if you have a bible study topic; not that you need my permission, just pointing out that this site is for bible study only. God bless, Jeff |

99 | Joseph's Death? | NT general | jlhetrick | 206138
Kit...- is it ok to call you Kit or would you rather the whole username?? Inquiring minds.... yes, yes, yes.... me too. Some do "assume" that Joseph may have deceased since Mary is mentioned several times after and he is not. But in the abscense of documentation, assumption is all we're left with. I'm not aware of any secular records that mention the time and manner of Jospeh's death (though some of the more scholarly here might be). Jeff |

100 | Were the disciples saved, Born Again? | NT general | jlhetrick | 206137
Not sure which disciples you mean, but if your speaking ot the 12 apostles see the following. Acts 1:24-2:4 24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen, 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place. 26 And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. 2 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ASV God bless, Jeff |
