82 | Comparing versions to the literal Greek | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 181406
John, As you know even the Greek and Hebrew changed over time, as our English or American version. We know the NT was written over a short time, so changes were very few, if any - in the Greek and Aramaic. The grammar/ sentence structure of the original is different, as well. With that, we need translators to set it so we understand the Bible. When I study, I like to go back to the orginial to see what is there. I am disappointed in all translations and use several - NASB, KJV, ESV and Amplified ... tot help me. Steve |

God's day to you, asken, In addition to most Pentecostals cite speaking in tongues ... Pentecostals generally are Arminian and most Evangelicals are Calvinist. Charismatics are similar to the Pentecostals. There is also the Fundamentalists, which are mosr hostile toward these to groups, than Evangelicals are. Searcher |

87 | Stretching oneself on a person heals? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 186201
God's day to you, love_peace_joy, It is dangerous to cite passages like this and claim it will be true for you ... or anyone else today. While it could be used today, it is not geanerally. As pointed out Jesus healed in many ways ... but he didn't heal everyone. Look at John 5. I preseume by the text there were others at the Pool, waiting for it to be stirred, else the man would have been first. Searcher |

God's day to you, Mouse, I think it is as important to mediatate (study) the Bible as what you read. Scripture is not just a textbook that we should read thru in a year. As I study, I learn more, even if it is the fiftieth time I looked at a passage. Also, when I listen or read others, it helps me link the Bible. Psalm 19:14 is a good verse, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer". What do I think and say? Look at Psalm 119 on how it tlaks about mediate: ... Ps 119:15 I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. ... Ps 119:23 Even though princes sit and talk against me, Your servant meditates on Your statutes. ... Ps 119:27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts, so I will meditate on Your wonders. ... Ps 119:48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments, which I love; and I will meditate on Your statutes. Zayin. ... Ps 119:78 May the arrogant be ashamed, for they subvert me with a lie; but I shall meditate on Your precepts. ... Ps 119:148 My eyes anticipate the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word. The Holy Spirit will guide you - but you need to study. Study deeper than you do (did) for school. Searcher |

90 | Satan cannot understand tongues? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 188138
God's day to you, Adum, The Bible doesn't say if Satan understands tongues or not. The Bible does say, "For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries" (1 Cor 14:2) ... and in the context one could think only God understands. Also, in Acts 2 we read people understood (vv 4-10). I think in both cases it is "speaking of the mighty deeds of God" to God and others are listening, in theor own language. I don'r know if Satan understands all languages or not. Searcher |

Scripture ... Mat 20:1-16, 24:11-13; Rom 5:9-10, 8:29-30, 13:11; 1Co 1:18; Phi 2:12-13; Eph 2:8; 2Ti 1:9; Tit 3:5; Heb 9:28; Jam 1:2ff ... God's day to you, Azure, This is a repost of mine, in part. We must be born again to see heaven. It is the only requirement. Sanctification (salvation) can be viewed from three points, based on the tenses used: - Past Tense Eph 2:8 2Ti 1:9 Tit 3:5 - Present Tense ... it is ongoing 1Co 1:18 Phi 2:12-13 In our process of sanctification we do undergo trials, tests ... James 1:2ff is one passage on this. - Future Tense ... when we get to heaven Mat 24:11-13 Rom 5:9-10 Rom 13:11 Heb 9:28 1 Cor 10:24 says "Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor" ... so I am confused about your citation. But, sanctification is a reward in the future. Some believe, then die within minutes. Others are Christians for many years. No matter the length one obtains eternal life at the end, like the parable of workers who were hired at different times of the day - all got the same pay (Matt 20:1-16) Romans 8:29-30 form the chain. Verse 29 ends the chain and verse 30 are the links. If we misunderstand - the past tense, we may add works. - the present tense, easy believism can set in - the future tense, we may not persevere Please read the following http://www.biblebb.com/files/mac/45-41.htm http://www.wildernesschurch.com/articles/salvation.htm Hope this helps, Searcher |

94 | Years after Israel fall till Judah fell? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 189443
God's day to you, jtedder and welcome to the SBF, It is hard to pinpoint the dates by just using the Bible. There were about 134 years between the fall of the two kingdoms. Israel fell in 721 BC to the Assyrians (2Ki 17). Judah fell in 587 BC to the Babylonians (2Ki 25). God's day to you, virtuouswoman37, and welcome to the SBF, Discernment is needed (Phi 1:9). It is tough to know if a person is telling a story. I would first give to your church (1 Cor 16:2). If they are able, let them help you give more. Organizations like Crown (www.crown.org) may be able to help you. I selected them because I hear them on the radio. There are others. Scripture ... "When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore" (Rev 20:7-8) ... God's day to you, Sandra and welcome to the SBF, Some of those living during the 1000 year reign (vs 6), will be deceived, as was Eve (Gen 3:1ff, 2 Cor 11:3) ... both times, IMHO life was better. 97 | Keep the Sabbath Holy? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 190897
Scripture ... Gen 2:2-3, Exo 16:23-30, 20:8-11; Isa 66:23; Mat 28:1, 9, 10; Mar 2:23-28, 3:1-5, 16:9; Luk 24:1, 13, 15; Jhn 20:16, 19; Act 13:14,42 16:13, 17:2, 18:4, 20:7-13; 1Co 16:2; Col 2:16-17 (Eze 45:17); Heb 4:9-11 ... -In Genesis 2:2-3, God rested on the Sabbath. -There was a command to rest on the Sabbath before the Law (Exo 16:23-30) -It appears to be the Sabbath is only one of the Ten Commandments, that we single out (Exo 20:8-11). This passages points back to creation and God's resting. Some say it is about being released from slavery. -I believe Isaiah 66:23 shows Sabbath is observed in heaven. -Did Jesus and the 12 violate the Sabbath, in Mark 2:23-28, 3:1-5 and other passages? More important. did He change the day? -Sabbath was made for man … to rest (Mar 2:27) -Christ did arise on first day of the week (Mat 28:1, 9, 10; Mar 16:9; Luk 24:1, 13, 15; Jhn 20:19, 26). -John 20:19 doesn’t say when the 11 began to gather. Some say it is the first Sunday service. -Paul and Barnabas went to the synagogue on the Sabbath (Act 13:14 16:13, 17:2, 18:4). The Greeks heard the Word on the Sabbath (Act 13:42). - While Paul preached on Sunday evening (Acts 20:7), he did travel that evening and next day (vv 13-15). I don’t think Paul would have violated the day of rest. -Romans 14:5-6 is not about making the Sabbath special. The context is about disputable matters … and the Sabbath is not disputable, but a command. -When Paul said “to put aside and save” (1Co 16:2), he did not say to give or to take up a collection on that day. -Does Colossians 2:16-17 free us from celebrating the weekly Sabbath any day we want? If so, why didn’t he limit it to Saturday or Sunday. This could be the Ceremonial Sabbaths as seen in Ezekiel 45:17, which this passage duplicates. -I believe Hebrews 4:9-11points out we still need to observe Friday 6pm to Saturday 6pm, as out day of rest. Some dates to observe ... -321 Constantine declared that the Roman Empire was to observe Sunday was to be a day of rest. -ca. 364 Church Council of Laodicea mandated that Sunday, not Saturday was the day of religious observances. But, no all obeyed, including "Apostolic Constitutions" (ca. 375), Victoruinus, Bishop of Pettau (ca. 304) and Pope Innocent I. … These are opinions of men. If they don’t line up with Scripture, what is it worth? If we observe Sunday as the Sabbath, we better make the whole day, a day of rest and keep it holy. |
