143 | What is meant by age of accountability? | Bible general Archive 2 | Searcher56 | 108281
Scripture ... Isa 7:15-16; Jam 4:13-17; Rom 1:18-20, 5:13; 1 Cor 15:21; 1Jo 3:4 ... DavidP, greetings I knew I was doing wrong before I could speak, around 18 months. When I did wrong on purpose, I was given a swat - no pain. I was saved when I was four. I have heard the phrase "age of accountability" ... I find no Biblical support for this. Verses such as Isaiah 7:15-16, James 4:17 and Romans 5:13 lead some to believe that there is a such thing as an "age of accountability", and I believe that all infants who die (who hasn't had a chance to accept Jesus) will be in heaven with Jesus Christ after they die. - Isaiah 7:15-16 talks about knowing enough to reject the wrong and chose the right. ... Why does it not say reject the right and chose the wrong? - James 4:17 just covers the sin of omission. Plus, in the context it talks about boating (vv 13-17) ... which I doubt babies can do. 1 John 3:4 is one verse that covers the sin of commission. - The context of Romans 5:13 is verses 12-19 which says we all have sin nature ... we share in Adam's death because we share in Adam's sin (1 Cor 15:21) - and even knowing right thing to do, and not doing it (Jam 4:17) also cannot be used. Read Romans 1:18-20 - What was the age that entered the land? Deuteronomy 2:14-16 says all the fighting men had perished, as he has promise (1:34-35). So take Deuteronomy 1:39 in context (vv 34-39). We are told in Numbers 1 that Moses was instructed to "take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and their families. according to the number of names, every male, head by head from twenty years and upward, whoever is able to go out to war in Israel." (1:2-3). Therefore, I believe those under 20 at Deuteronomy 1:34-39 entered the land. Deuteronomy 6 commanded Israel to make telling about God an important issue, so the young children knew what the Lord wanted. Searcher |

160 | How many in upper room?? | Bible general Archive 2 | Searcher56 | 115120
Scripture ... Acts 1:13-17, 1:26-2:4, 8-11 ..... The nearest antecedent of "they" (2:1) is the 12 apostles (1:26). But, "they" could be the 120 (1:15). Which ever it is, the Holy Spirit (why do you use lowercase for His name?) FILLED them all (2:4). Also, they mat not have been in the upper room where they were staying (1:13). Since there were more than 12 native languages (2:8-11), I would think it was more than the 12 apostles. |
