82 | God, Soul, Spirit t | Gen 1:1 | Makarios | 226994
Greetings BoJac1, Here is a repost of 226875: "Are the dead with the Lord, or still asleep, waiting for resurrection? The key to understanding this is that when we die, "then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7; 2 Cor. 5:8). So, the body returns to dust, waiting to be resurrected at the Second Coming (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), while the spirit goes to be with the Lord (Acts 7:59; Philippians 1:21-26). At the resurrection, the body and spirit are reunited, "For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality." (1 Cor. 15:53)" --Makarios |

84 | Was john the baptist Elijah? | John 1:19 | Makarios | 226991
Greetings Believer_1! You asked, "Was John the Baptist Elijah? It clearly says in this verse that he claims not! But he baptised jesus!" Please read Matthew 11:14: "And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come." Please also read Luke 1:17 and Matthew 17:10-13 which say that John came "in the spirit and power of Elijah" and compare Elijah's revival on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18) with John at the Jordan River (Matt. 3:5-6). After that, read Malachi 4:5-6 and then Matthew 11:14 and 17:12 again. And once you've finished, then read it all over again. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Hurricane, 1 Thessalonians 4:15 "For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep." 1 Thessalonians 4:16 "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." 1 Thessalonians 4:17 "Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." 87 | 2 Timothy 1:7 different translations | 2 Tim 1:7 | Makarios | 226927
Greetings Nguyentristan! 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control." (NET Bible) The Greek word is sophronismos (Strongs #G4995, masculine noun) which, according to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, is "From G4994; discipline, that is, self control: - sound mind." According to www.blueletterbible.org, 2 Tim. 1:7 is the only occurrence of this Greek word in the NT, but it is very close to 'sophronizo' (G4994, verb) which appears in Titus 2:4 (rendered as "encourage" in the NASB). The NASB follows the 1901 ASV and the 1885 Revised Version in the simple rendering of "discipline" in this verse. Other translations have: * "self-discipline" (NIV, NLT, NRSV, ISV, LEB) * "self-control" (Amplified, RSV, ESV, NAB, BBE, CEV, NCV, GNB, LITV, TS98, ICB) * "sensible" (MSG) * "sound mind" (KJV, NKJV, MKJV, YLT, VW, 1568 Bishops' Bible, EMTV, 1587 Geneva Bible, 1833 Webster, AV7) * "good judgment" (GOD'S WORD) * "self-restraint" (Catholic Public Domain Version) * "wise discretion" (1889 Darby Bible) * "sobriety" (Vulgate, 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible, 1755 Wesley's NT) * "instruction" (James Murdock NT) * "sound judgement" (HCSB, 1912 Weymouth NT) * "soundness of mind" (SLT) I suppose, since the Green noun in 2 Tim. 1:7 is describing the Holy Spirit, then 'discipline' could be an all encompassing interpretation of the word, not limiting the quality (trait) given by the Holy Spirit to 'self-control' alone. 88 | what was the christian first called | Acts 11:26 | Makarios | 226926
Greetings PrayzHim2, Whether the term "Christians" was adopted by believers or just simply stuck after being called such in derision, Acts 11:26 tells us that the disciples were first called "Christians" at Antioch. Before that, they are simply referred to as 'disciples of the Lord' (Acts 9:1). Blessings to you, Makarios |

90 | gods blessing goes to younger not older | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 226922
Greetings Chilis, You asked: What are the incidences in the Old Testament where the youngest was given the blessing over the older? * Abel over Cain (Genesis 4:4-5) * Japheth over Ham (Genesis 9:22-28) * Isaac over Ishmael (Genesis 17:16-21) * Jacob over Esau (Genesis 27:36) * Ephraim over Manasseh (Genesis 49:17-20) * Joseph over the rest of his brothers (Genesis 49:22-26), and later, Judah (Genesis 49:10) * Moses over Aaron (Exodus 5:27-30) * David over his brothers (1 Samuel 16:6-13) * Solomon over Adonijah (1 Kings 1:17-30) These are all that I can think of so far. 91 | the significance of being left handed | Judg 3:15 | Makarios | 226889
Greetings Smonkjones! You asked, "What is the significance of being left handed in the Bible? I ask because of the way it was mentioned in reference to the tribe of Benjamin. And if i'm not mistaken there was also a king that was left handed and the way it was mentioned also." Judges 3:15 "But when the sons of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for them, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. And the sons of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab." Judges 20:16 "Out of all these people 700 choice men were left-handed; each one could sling a stone at a hair and not miss." So apparently, the left-handed people were especially adept with the sling, and it could be that being left-handed was a special distinguishing trait of Ehud (possibly in his family) that made him stand out. Personally, I'm more interested in the man with six fingers myself: 2 Samuel 21:20 "There was war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant." 1 Chronicles 20:6 "Again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot; and he also was descended from the giants." :) Blessings to you, Makarios |

93 | Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? | Matt 3:2 | Makarios | 226875
Greetings 00123! Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? The Kingdom of Heaven (or Kingdom of God) is God's heavenly kingdom coming to earth in the Person of Jesus Christ. So, if Christ and God the Father are in heaven and the Holy Spirit is working with us here on earth, then the Kingdom of Heaven can be both in heaven and on earth at the same time. Are the dead with the Lord, or still asleep, waiting for resurrection? The key to understanding this is that when we die, "then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7; 2 Cor. 5:8). So, the body returns to dust, waiting to be resurrected at the Second Coming (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), while the spirit goes to be with the Lord (Acts 7:59; Philippians 1:21-26). At the resurrection, the body and spirit are reunited, "For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality." (1 Cor. 15:53) Blessings to you, Makarios |

94 | Explain the TRINITY | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 226874
Greetings BoJac1, The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith explains God and the Holy Trinity in the following way: "II. God and the Holy Trinity 1. The Lord our God is the one and only living and true God; Whose subsistence is in and of Himself - Who is infinite in being and perfection; Whose essence cannot be comprehended by any but Himself; - Who is a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions - Who only has immortality - Who dwells in the light which no man can approach, Who is immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, in every way infinite, most holy, most wise, most free, most absolute; - Who works all things according to the counsel of His own immutable and most righteous will, for His own glory; - Who is most loving, gracious, merciful, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; - Who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin; - Who is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him; - and Who, at the same time, is most just and terrible in His judgements, hating all sin and Who will by no means clear the guilty. 2. God, having all life, glory, goodness, blessedness, in and from Himself, is unique in being all- sufficient, both in Himself and to Himself, not standing in need of any creature which He has made, nor deriving any glory from such. On the contrary, it is God Who manifests His own glory in them, through them, to them and upon them. He is the only fountain of all being; from Whom, through Whom, and to Whom all things exist and move. He has completely sovereign dominion over all creatures, to do through them, for them, or to them whatever He pleases. In His sight all things are open and manifest; His knowledge is infinite, infallible, and not dependent on the creature. Therefore, nothing is for Him contingent or uncertain. He is most holy in all His counsels, in all His works, and in all His commands. To Him is due from angels and men whatever worship, service, or obedience, they owe as creatures to the Creator, and whatever else He is pleased to require from them. 3. In this divine and infinite Being there are three subsistences, the Father, the Word or Son, and the Holy Spirit. All are one in substance, power, and eternity; each having the whole divine essence, yet this essence being undivided. The Father was not derived from any other being; He was neither brought into being by, nor did He issue from any other being. The Son is eternally begotten of the Father. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. All three are infinite, without beginning, and are therefore only one God, Who is not to be divided in nature and being, but distinguished by several peculiar relative properties, and also their personal relations. This doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God, and our comfortable dependence on Him." 95 | read KJV. Why is Nasb Omitted last part? | Matt 20:16 | Makarios | 226872
Greetings Mark4wh, You asked, "Why is the phrase "for many are called but few are chosen" left out of the nasb translation on this verse??" Matthew 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the first last." (NASB) Matthew 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen." (KJV) The textual notes to several translations shed some light here: * "Some manuscripts do not contain this phrase." (Amplified Bible) * "Other ancient authorities add for many are called but few are chosen" (NRSV) * "NU omits the rest of v. 16" (NKJV) The textual criticism reveals that the words "for many are called but few are chosen" are only found in the later Majority Text family of Greek manuscripts and the Textus Receptus, and largely seen as a scribal addition, probably from Matthew 22:14. The Alexandrian textual family, which is considered to be a more 'critical text' since it contains earlier Greek manuscripts, does not include the longer version of Matthew 20:16. The KJV and the NKJV are based upon the Majority Text and Textus Receptus traditions of Greek manuscripts (which contain the longer version of Matt. 20:16). The NASB and most of the more recent translations on the market today are based on the more critical, or Alexandrian textual tradition (which includes the shorter version). Therefore, the KJV and NKJV readings are different from the NASB, RSV and ESV readings of this verse. Blessings to you, Makarios |

96 | Where in the bible did the ?????? tell G | Mark 7:19 | Makarios | 226870
Greetings SkyDoctor, You asked, "Where in the bible did the ?????? tell GOD that they couldn't eat because the meat was uncleaned but GOD said what I tell you to eat is clean indeed." Perhaps you are looking for Mark 7:18-23: "And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." Blessings to you, Makarios |

98 | Why did Jesus have to suffer? | Heb 2:9 | Makarios | 226794
Greetings Janlsun, You asked, "why did Jesus have to suffer all the humiliation?" Hebrews 2:9 "But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone." Hebrews 13:12 "Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate." Acts 17:3 "explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ." John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." Blessings to you, Makarios |

99 | Is Nisan 14 in any version of bible? | John 19:14 | Makarios | 226792
Greetings Debbieo, You asked, "Is Nisan 14 in any version of bible?" Nisan (Babylonian), or the month of Aviv (Hebrew), is a spring month (March - April) and the first month of the ecclesiastical year of the Hebrew calendar. John 19:14,31,42 indicate that Nisan 14 was the day that Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem. So, as long as the Bible version includes the Gospel of John chapter 19, then I would assume that it would contain a reference to the day Nisan 14. Blessings to you, Makarios |
