641 | I liked most of what... | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12399
I found a good church and I've quit listening to TV evangelists so I've got a good start anyway. :) The only thing I need to work on is the regular Bible study, for some reason, I have a hard time doing that. I think it's because I'm more a skimmer reader, always have been and things like the Bible or text books are something you have to look at every word and for some reason, I can't do that, I lose my concentration by the time I get to the end of a sentence, forgot what was in the first part. I do a lot better listening to tapes than reading if it's important. In school, I wrote down everything but I couldn't get it reading. Even here, I skip a lot. The texts that have short sentences w/spacing inbetween paragraphs I can read but the ones where it's one huge paragraph, forget it! I just get bits and pieces, if anything. Anyway, I can follow a sermon good, I just have a hard time reading on my own. :( Then a sermon, you usually get a lot of background you don't get just reading too, I like that. :) Even if someone is telling you what's going on about what you're reading, you still can form your own opinions on whether what they say is right. |

I guess I don't know what's of God and what isn't either and don't feel qualified to make those decisions either. I know Jessie Duplantis claims he went to heaven, that he got transported and had a Word from the Lord, He wrote that book and has the video, "Close Encounters of a God Kind". Mama says she doesn't believe that junk. I say I don't know. I have the book, it certainly sounds believeable and if God choose to to that for Jessie, who am I to complain? I'm not saying it's true or not, but it's possible because w/God all things are possible and He is not limited to what we can say, think or feel. God can do anything, but at the same time, Satan does counterfiet God's things too so...I guess you have to take each experience on their own individual merit. :)

I also remember the first time I went to church and they were doing tongues. I wasn't saved yet and Mama had turned into a Charismatic Catholic. So she talked me into going to church but it wasn't her church, it was my mil's church and they were having a charismatic svc there. So after offeratory, everyone started babbling, I thought about that witchdoctor song, that oooh, eee, ooh ahh ahh, ting tang walla walla bing bang. It was like at this certain point, they all started at the same time, like ready, set, GO!!! I saw my mil there, she didn't see me, but she was looking like what's going on here??? She hightailed it out of there before I could reach her. :) Also they had a prayer request time and if my mom had said she wanted to pray for her two heathen daughters, I would have walked for sure. :) Then my uncle that married my aunt that I went to those svcs with, (she met him at one) he's one of these that when he's at a svc, he raises his hands and shakes them, like he has palsy or something. But he doesn't talk in tongues, but he claims to prophesy, tells all these stories about what wonderful things the Lord had him say to people where he'd have to get his phone no. changed because of people calling wanting prophecies. Yet they don't belong to a regular church where you go every week, tithing is def. out of the question (I think that's why he won't find a regular church) and he does act pretty worldly (materialistic) usually, makes you wonder what he's really about. Oh, and every time you go to a svc that there's a prayer line, he's in it. Mama says he's embarassing, doesn't want anybody to know she knows him. :) This is a guy that ran his credit card bills up because he figured the Lord was coming back and so he wouldn't have to pay them, he'd be raptured long before then-guess what!!! Bankruptcy! I know I've had a wierd spiritual upbringing and have a lot to learn. I was raised Cath, went thru my heathen period, then was saved but traveled and never found a church home, listened to Copeland, went to a few Believer's Conventions, experienced some real miracles too, but still didn't know how to live right. I thank God that now I'm settled in a good church and learning correctly now but I can't say all I learned before was in vain either. :) I just remember that expression about I ain't where I need to be but thank God I ain't where I used to be!!! |

I have been reading all these responses so far and still don't know the answer yet. :) I just thought I might as well put in my 2 cents worth. I remember when my nephew Michael was about 8 or so, I went to mass w/them on Easter. The priest had that water shaker thingie and was sprinkling holy water and he sprinkled in our direction and Michael kinda pulled his fist back like don't you spray me! The first time I ever experienced people being slain in the spirit, I guess that's what it was anyway, I was at a non-denom mtg w/my aunt and the preacher would touch someone and they'd fall on the floor, my first reaction was like Michael-don't do that to me!!! There were people talking in tongues and preachers knocking people down, I didn't know what to think. I guess I still don't. I talked to some friends back then and they were saying that the devil is the author of confusion and all that babbling and knocking people over will scare people off, it almost did me, but I kept going back w/my aunt whenever I was in town. I started figuring maybe it's something I don't understand but if it's from God, maybe I should get in on it. I used to follow Copeland's teaching too. He did that tongue talking and I went to a Believer's Convention and got in a healing line and when Gloria just touched me (this was in thr cookie-cutter type fashion as mentioned earlier), I went down even tho I tried not to, but I didn't know what to do when I was there, should I stay there or get up or what? I also have been prayed over by many people, many times, about receiving tongues because if it was from God, even if I didn't understand it or know what it was for, I wanted it just because it was from God but never have I talked in tongues and supposedly I've been prayed over by the best. So, I guess I still have no idea about this, whether it's from God, Satan, or what. All I know is what has or has not happened to me. :) Then I've also read about how many of the people that promote this like Benny Hinn for example are of the wrong spirit so... |

645 | Why do teachers have a stricter judgment | James 3:1 | Norrie | 12295
Maybe because they are in a position to lead others astray.
646 | Who was the Proverbs 31 wife? | Prov 31:10 | Norrie | 12257
I don't know, there's prob. not enough info in the Bible to name any particular woman, I think it's just saying how you should be. :)
647 | manhood | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12249
I've had a stepson who when he was 21 gave him the "now you are a man, act responsible" speech. Then it was repeated again when he turned 25, then 30, some never grow up and act responsibly. I think mostly it's the parent's fault today tho that their kids are whiney losers, maybe if they disciplined them more and made then accept responsibility instead of catering to their every whim and giving them whatever they want and letting them do whatever they want, maybe the kids might be better prepared for life, but that's another story. :) I think if he is living w/his Mama, then she deserves to come first, but when he's living w/a wife, then she comes first. If he's living on his own, he needs to respect his mama and if she needs something, help her, but he should not be at her beck and call if you know what I mean, some mamas try to keep their grown kids on a short leash and that's not right either. |

648 | What is the gospel? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12206
He was trying to explain to people how to live right. As you can surmiss from the Bible, Israel sure didn't know how and they were God's chosen people. The gentiles sure didn't have any idea, he had to start from scatch w/them. :) Some of us need to be started from scratch too. The gospel is the good news about Jesus, Paul's epistles are telling us how to live it.
649 | married men | Matt 5:32 | Norrie | 12176
I think as long as you are praying over the situation and doing what you think God wants you to do, then I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe God is giving to you each other for healing, who knows. Just pray and do what the Spirit tells you to do.
650 | On what day was Jesus crucified? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12130
Thanks, Steve. I got so much info now, I wonder if I'll get time to look at it all!!!
651 | On what day was Jesus crucified? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12129
Tim, this letter seems different from the one on the site you gave Nolan-wonder why? I'm going to try to print them both out to compare. The letters sure seem to confirm a lot of the Bible. That makes me wonder if it's real or made up years after the fact to confirm the Bible, seems too pat, what do you think? Wish we knew if it was real or not because it is good.
652 | On what day was Jesus crucified? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12082
Nolan, I checked out that site, it's great! Wonder where they got that letter from Pontius Pilate? Can you actually see it somewhere?
653 | Can a woman with no womb bear a child? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 12081
With God all things are possible! Now whether or not she actually heard God or is just hoping this will happen, who knows. I know I was 40 when I had a baby which was a miracle birth all the way, even later the doc said I was ate up w/endriometrosis and it was a miracle I had a baby. But my baby was a result of a 1991 Anaheim Believer's Convention, but I didn't obsess on it till it happened. :) Nolan is right, just go about your business trying to please God and forget about it, if it happens, fine, if it don't fine too.
654 | married men | Matt 5:32 | Norrie | 12002
His wife left him for another man and the divorce isn't final yet? Something sounds funny here unless you're in a state w/waiting periods. I'd say wait for divorce to be final, then there is no qualms then. He is justified in getting a divorce if she committed adultery but wait for the divorce!!!
655 | Why aren't the demons saved? | James 2:19 | Norrie | 12001
Believing is very essential but repentance is a major factor that is left out a lot. Many people do not choose salvation because they refuse to repent, they like their lifestyle, don't want to change it.
656 | Why aren't the demons saved? | James 2:19 | Norrie | 12000
I would imagine the demons aren't saved because they were angels who rebelled against God, they already made their choice when they joined forced w/Lucifer. I also think the "world" in John 3:16 is humans, don't even go to animals. :)
657 | No medical/spiritual need to circumcise? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 11939
Seeing as how I'm a female and had a daughter, I have no particular bone to pick here, but it seems like God would not have had them be circumcised if it was bad for them, seems like everything God has anybody do is for the good. I know that my brother's were circumcised and we were good Catholics, not Jews, I just thought it was the thing to do. I know I had a husband who ended up having it done while we were married for health reasons, I know he went thru a lot of pain. I read somewhere that at the time God commanded the Jews to circumcise their sons was at a perfect time for healing and maybe less pain.
658 | Could you be more specific | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 11934
Steve, I thought I answered this earlier but I don't see it. Don't you think you're being just a bit too legalistic? There are definately circumstances like are mentioned above that you have to consider on their own individual merits. You would not lie in order to protect the life of your wife and children if you were in that circumstance? I believe you'd be answering for that when you get judged. I agree it's not right to lie but sometimes, in certain circumstances, it seems it is the lessor of the two evils. Seems like you also advocated a woman submitting to abuse too. Steve, think, you are acting more like a Pharasee holding to the exact letter of the law and no infractions, period. Seems like they were constantly riding Jesus because he didn't keep their laws. Even on the Andy Griffith show,Andy got onto Barney about following the law to a T when he arrested the whole town instead of adding in the human factor and showing some judgement. I'm just saying watch out lest you get trapped in legalism! Seems Jesus was against legalism too. |

659 | Does God hate divorce? | Mal 2:16 | Norrie | 11908
God may hate divorce but He hates other things more, like abuse or adultery, He also hates murder, sexual sin, etc. He hates sin period but we still do it. :(
660 | Who moved the Sabbath to Sun.? | Col 2:16 | Norrie | 11728
I was jus looking for a place to put this, just got it today. :) Greetings Bible Enthusiasts! Two questions for today: --What is worship? Worship is simply praising God in spirit and truth (John 4:23). We worship in spirit when we worship from the heart and not merely with external formalities. We worship in truth when our worship is consistent with biblical principles. An excellent way to worship God is to extol His character and works as told to us in Scripture and to acknowledge His gracious works in your own life. You can include Scripture reading, prayer, singing, or even celebrating the Lord's Table. You can worship alone or in a group. The main thing is that your worship flow from a heart of praise. --Why do we worship on Sunday? Christians worship on Sunday for several reasons: --Christ arose on Sunday, so the early church chose that day to celebrate His resurrection. --The Old Testament Sabbath day (Saturday) was a day of rest for Israel. The Christian's Sunday is more than a day of rest - it's a day to remember Christ's resurrection. --Keeping the Sabbath is the only one of the Ten Commandments that isn't repeated in the New Testament. --The New Testament indicates that the early church met for corporate worship on the first day of the week (Sunday). That's the pattern in the book of Acts and the implication in other parts of the New Testament (such as 1 Corinthians 16:2). Although Sunday worship follows the New Testament pattern, nothing is particularly sacred about the day itself. For believers, worship should occur every day, of course! |
