622 | Does anyone really *do* this? | Luke 14:12 | Norrie | 13505
You make a good point, Joe. The demons in hell believe in Jesus Christ, KNOW Him personally, they KNOW He is the Son of God and they KNOW He was raised from the dead but they don't warrant brotherhood. Knowing all this and trusting Him as your personal Lord and Savior are two different things. I'm not saying that Brain hasn't accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, only Brain knows this and I'm not saying any Cath. has never done this, I know some that profess this too. I just have a hard time figuring how anybody can profess Jesus and at the same time stay loyal to a church that seems to go against everything He stands for, it just makes no sense to me. When I find out that whatever man or organization is flawed, maybe in apostasy, I get out no matter how many years I've invested there, no man or organization is worth my soul (I'm saying this because not only was a a Cath before, but I also listened to Copeland exclusively for almost 2 decades and found out he has some apostasy too). |

Sorry, Brain, but it seems I can't remember any time that turned out to be a victory, pitiful, huh. :( The only ones I ever felt good about were the anon ones like when you see a bum digging in trash can after you just went shopping and try to think what you just bought you can give him (can't be can or uncooked) and all you can come up w/is a pkg of tomatoes or see one laying in a doorway and offer him a pack of raisins because that's all you have on you, but their smiles and thank yous are worth it. :) I know I've given money before and afterwards a lady comes up and says I hope you didn't give that person any money, I live around here and see them take it to the liquor store. I know God see our good deeds and that's treasure laid up in Heaven, but it would be encouraging to have a victory occassionally. I remember we were living in TX and he had some friends he used to hang out with at coffee shop and smoke every day, they really had nothing. He told me they needed groceries, they had kids too (made you wonder what kids did while they hung out all the time). So I went to the store and bought lots of staples, no junk food but I remember I bought a 5# bag of carrots (I don't think I've ever seen a 5# bag since then), brought it over to them and the kids attacked that bag of carrots. I was used to seeing kids attack cookies, not carrots, it really amazed me. What's sad tho is many people don't want to bother to cook the food, they'd rather have fast food that you do nothing to except eat it. My mil has a food bank at her church (so does ours) but she was telling me how so many people don't really want the stuff because they are too lazy to cook, that is sad! I'm sorry but I guess I have more turned out wrong stories tho, I can think of several others but don't want to discourage anybody. :) At least Jesus knows our right intentions tho and that is what counts. |

I know I grew up thinking the church was salvation and hoping that I'd die right after confession-venial sin meant purgatory and mortal sin meant hell. I don't know if it still is, but back then, missing mass on Sun was a mortal sin. If you didn't go at least once during the Easter season, that was grounds for excommunication. They may be more lenient now, I don't know. :) Oh, they used to have those indulgences where you can buy time off from purgatory. Certain sayings were worth 300 days off, others were worth 900, you better believe I'd say bunches of those 900 ones to build up my acct. :) I never thought much about Jesus. I knew the Bible stories about Him but he was basically the big guy upstairs who was too busy or important to worry w/us, that's why you had to go thru His mama, He'd at least listen to her. I'd heard they changed but a few years ago went to a funeral at the same church my cousin, the priest, used to pastor. I picked up a few leaflets in the back and seems they were the same old stuff. I found a novena to our lady of something there. I had that tract for a long time as evidence but it got lost thru the years. Seems like you could still do indulgences too. Some things are just sneaking back in. :) |

That's OK, Nolan, it's to be expected. :) Remember, I was raised Cath. too. I went thru a period of blind allegiance too where I'd fight anybody who said anything contrary to the Cath church, they do a good job of brainwashing. You want to know a really funny thing (more pathetic than funny really), we grew up thinking that unless you were Cath, you were going to hell. I had a friend down the street who was Latter Day Saint, she was taught the same thing and we'd argue for hrs over saying the other was going to hell and we both were-sad, huh. :( |

626 | Does anyone really *do* this? | Luke 14:12 | Norrie | 13471
My husband that died used to do this. If we were at a rest area and there was a note saying someone was in trouble, he'd find them to help. He'd go to missions to hire people to help do things we needed done. The only problem is sometimes he'd let people stay w/us, then you had to practically throw them out to get rid of them. Almost immediately they'd start acting like privledged guests and expect you to do everything for them and become very lazy, even when it came to personal hygiene and and start expecting you to do everything for them. Seems like we got burned many times in the process. Then he'd see these people w/the will work for food signs, offer them a job and they'd act insulted, just give me some money for nothing. I think it was easier to give food to the homeless than to try to actually help them and give them what they need, not money. We'd still help who we could when necessary, but just be more "leary" of them, some are just scam artists.

I checked all 4 gospels, seems like Mary M and other Mary were the first in Matt, Mark, Luke and John, does this mean she should have been the first pope? :) John also mentions he was w/Peter too, then there were the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus...

Have you considered Jesus said "tell His disciples and Peter" because Peter had just betrayed Him and Jesus wanted Peter to know he was forgiven? Same w/John 21:14-15. Jesus asked do you love Me the same number of times Peter betrayed Him-hmmmmmmm!
632 | How can the rich be in misery? | James 5:1 | Norrie | 12881
Usually (not always), the rich person worships msmmon, that is their god. They are the ones that oppress the poor and do all the ther bad things, trying to get richer. Remember, money does not buy happiness or health either. |

633 | Are there exceptions to submitting? | Rom 13:1 | Norrie | 12880
Steve, do you see how many questions you can think up every day? Are you having a quota to make daily? Of course you go against the govt if they make decisions against the will of God! If the govt told you to worship a false God (like w/Daniel) you wouldn't do it. If the govt was killing people (like Nazis, etc) you'd go against that. If you were forced to take a mark (future) you wouldn't do that. Even saying abortion is legal doesn't make it right with God. Is this enough? |

Brain, how many times are you going to post that? Enough already!!! I think all anybody is trying to say is get out of a church that corrupted and follow the Word, not these men. These men are/were/always will be corrupted and even when you're old enough to know better, if your parents are telling you something that goes against God, you can still say NO!!! Any churh that calls for blind alliegence is a cult-get out!!! |

Well, somehow I lost a post, so I'll just put highlights. Check out definition of papal ingfallibility: Main Entry: papal infallibility Function: noun Date: 1831 : the Roman Catholic doctrine that the pope cannot err when speaking ex cathedra in defining a doctrine of Christian faith or morals Accd to this, there should be no errors in doctrine to correct, that is what I was taught too. Like I said, I don't know what they are teaching now but I know what I was taught before Vatican II and watched the changes made afterwards. Infallibility is not the same as trust, submission or humility, it is separate unto itself. |

I usually use the NKJ, have a parallel bible that has 4 translations in it, an amplified, Message, my daughter has the NIV for school. Mama had the Living Bible, I guess I'll see if I can find "The New Living Tranlation". Does it read more like a novel? I can read novels easier because you can skip on them. :) I remember I found one in a motel not long after I got saved that must have been very paraphrased because it was easy to read, almost like a novel. Wish I still had that. Then you read all these arguments on this translation vs that translation and just get confused and disgusted. |

That is called submission, not infallibility. I don't know what Cath. teach now. I had my main religion training before Vat. II, I went to Cath school and religion was a class every day. The nuns explained infallibility as whenever the pope gets up to make a decision from the Chair of Peter, that is when he is infallible. He may be planning on saying something completely different as a man, but when he gets on that chair, the Holy Spirit speaks thru him and whatever he says then is infallible. Of course when they canonize someone, that is when they are infallible. Then later they decided St. Christopher didn't even exist so how can they be infallible??? That's when I started questioning. |

I hate to tell you this, but my husband is not infallible and I doubt any husband here will say he is either. :)

My pastor is going thru a different psalm every Sunday this summer. I have to admit, I've been following along, taking notes, but many times think good thing he explained that because I never would have gotten it. It makes sense when he says it but it makes no sense when I read it. Even the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, I always wondered "why don't you want Him?" until I heard it explained I have no wants because he fulfills them. I guess that old English went right over my head and I can quote that but never understood that one part. Then I always wondered why it seems to be talking about Him, then to Him, why switch back and forth like that? Usually in Sunday School, we go thru a book of the Bible, we're doing Amos and Hosea this quarter. I'll tell you what, if there wasn't study guides and going over it every week, I would be completely lost. :) |

OK, I'll try it again. I've tried before but just didn't seem to get much out of it but maybe I gave up too easy. Thanks! |
