61 | how did satan survive the flood? | Gen 7:23 | terrib | 147728
Hello 29602004, Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. Gen 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. The Scriptures only talk of those things created, on the Earth or the face of the ground, during the six days. Angels being immortal and not subject to the laws which constrain us on Earth: Luk 20:36 "Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels...". And Satan, being an angel, although fallen, (from Grace), was-is still an angel. As Satan appeared to Eve as a serpent and angels have appeared to some of old and new as men. They are not bound by the laws of our physical realm. They are spirits, (Heb 1:7) "...who maketh his angels spirits...". Just a note: The Scriptures do not say the fish in the sea. terrib |

62 | how did satan survive the flood? | Gen 7:23 | terrib | 147769
Hi 29602004, First to recall is, angels, fallen or otherwise, are not omnipresent. You wrote: "that means satan cannot cross the boundries that god set from the thrid heaven which lets me know this is how he survived the flood.he is limited from earth to the thrid heaven" If he were bound to the third heaven, then how did he possess the serpent and appear to Eve? If he were bound to the third heaven, he could not have tempted Christ in the wilderness. And, when God asked him where he had been, he said, (Job 2:2) "...From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it." How did he touch Job? (Job 2:7) "So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown." So, upon leaving the "presence of the Lord", he came to earth and touched Job. The devil being here, on Earth: Joh 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. Joh 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. I don't see any indication that Satan is bound to the third heaven. It is agreed that he and his do fear the Lord, (Mat 8:29) "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?". Interesting to note that the demons requested the swine, the dirty detestable creature, and, at the time, forbidden to eat. Kinda tells us the nature of these creatures, doesn't it? (rhetorical). So, to answer your question directly, "how did satan survive the flood", Scripture does not say, directly. And lastly: You are absolutely correct, Jesus is our well spring of Living Water. terrib Maybe you would like to fill-in your profile. It is always interesting to know about other brothers and sisters and some of their experiences. |

64 | OT LAW ?? | Gen 26:5 | terrib | 150531
Hello swerv, 1. God was talking to Isaac and was telling him that He would do everything He promised his father, Abraham, because Abraham had done everything the Lord told him to do. Gen 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. Gen 17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 2. So that the law would be a witness against the children of Irael. Deu 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. terrib |

65 | OT LAW ?? | Gen 26:5 | terrib | 150569
Hi Merv, Well, there was a law of good and a law of evil through knowledge to know the difference. And this came into play in the garden. Noah found grace because he was perfect (upright) in the eyes of God. Noah lived according to the law of good; of conscience; the same with Abraham. There is no place before Moses that there is a mentioning of any written law. And we can suppose anything we want. And yes, God rested on the seventh day, but the Sabbath was not imposed until Exodus, as far as it is written. The Ten Commandments and sundry laws were given to the Israelites in Exodus and they were to keep all the law, whither inside the ark or outside. The ark is called the Ark of the Covenant or testament, but Christ brought in a new testament: Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. So the old is now superceded by the new; the law of Christ. The old was a natural law and the new is spiritual law and being made higher than the natural has now taken the old law's place. I know your driving point, and I do believe in a Sabbath, but the day I appoint unto God may be different than the day you appoint unto God. But Paul says, if I regard a day, I regard it, if I don't, I don't. Do you make a sandwich and eat it on your Sabbath? Do you do laundry on your Sabbath? Do we break the law on the Sabbath? I am not under the law of the Sabbath. I regard the Sabbath to the Lord whatever I am doing. The Sabbath is for me, for my rest. That is me. My conscience is clear because I do it in faith. terrib |

66 | Gentiles into Gods kingdom | Gen 48:19 | terrib | 149038
Hi regguh, God said to Abram (Abraham), Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. "and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Gen 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed", talking of Christ coming from Abraham's seed. Ref: Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. terrib |

68 | Can you replace one by giving one? | Ex 22:14 | terrib | 146327
Hello edgar.s, Your question is a little vague, but maybe the verses below can answer some of your question. Exo 22:10 If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it: Exo 22:11 Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good. Exo 22:12 And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof. Exo 22:13 If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn. Exo 22:14 And if a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good. Exo 22:15 But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire. Even as today, if we keep something for someone and it gets damaged or lost and you have not kept a moral effort to make sure the item is safe, then you are responsible for the injured or lost item. We call it a bailment. You are and will be required to make the owner whole. In Christ, terrib |

69 | Law v Faith. Are Jews Condemened? | Leviticus | terrib | 146694
Dear EdB, Maybe we should revisit Eph 4:1 - 13. Eph 4:1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, Eph 4:2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, Eph 4:3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, Eph 4:6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. Eph 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Eph 4:8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN." Eph 4:9 (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? Eph 4:10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) Eph 4:11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; Eph 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. Eph 4:8 The "Therefore" definity ties it to the preceeding thought, verse 7, the gifts. "The conqueror leading the conquered (death, sin, principalities) and distributing gifts of grace to men. As in verse 11, He wouldn't be giving these gifts to the dead. Eph 4:9,10 talks of his death and resurrection. Eph 4:11 "And He gave some...", some what? He gave some the gifts referenced in verse 7. And what were these gifts? The gifts of the Holy Spirit to be an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher for the equipping of the saints for work of service. Paul is preaching on preserving peace and unity and the gifts that make up the different offices of the church. I find no connection with Lazarus and the rich man in Luke. with grace, terrib |

Hi EdB, Let us remember that this discussion is for Biblical teaching and not to turn it into a thread as long as your arm that ultimaley becomes a debate. You wrote, "and every creditable Bible scholar I know points to Eph 4:8 as fruition of that transference." Matthew Henry: "...Let us set ourselves to think of the ascension of Jesus Christ: that our blessed Redeemer, having risen from the dead, in gone to heaven, where he sits at the right hand of the Majesty on high, which completed the proof of his being the Son of God. As great conquerors, when they rode in their triumphal chariots, used to be attended with the most illustrious of their captives led in chains, and were wont to scatter their largesses and bounty among the soldiers and other spectators of their triumphs, so Christ, when he ascended into heaven, as a triumphant conqueror, led captivity captive. It is a phrase used in the Old Testament to signify a conquest over enemies, especially over such as formerly had led others captive; (see Jdg 5:12). Captivity is here put for captives, and signifies all our spiritual enemies, who brought us into captivity before. He conquered those who had conquered us; such as sin, the devil, and death. Indeed, he triumphed over these on the cross; but the triumph was completed at his ascension, when he became Lord over all, and had the keys of death and hades put into his hands..." - Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible - John Wesley: "...Wherefore he saith - That is, in reference to which God saith by David, Having ascended on high, he led captivity captive - He triumphed over all his enemies, Satan, sin, and death, which had before enslaved all the world: alluding to the custom of ancient conquerors, who led those they had conquered in chains after them. And, as they also used to give donatives to the people, at their return from victory, so he gave gifts to men - Both the ordinary and extraordinary gifts of the Spirit..." - John Wesley's Explanatory Notes - John Gill: "...he led captivity captive; which is expressive of Christ's conquests and triumph over sin, Satan, the world, death, and the grave; and indeed, every spiritual enemy of his and his people, especially the devil, who leads men captive at his will, and is therefore called captivity, and his principalities and powers, whom Christ has spoiled and triumphed over; the allusion is to the public triumphs of the Romans, in which captives were led in chains, and exposed to open view..." - John Gill's Exposition on the Entire Bible - Adam Clarke: "...When he ascended up on high - The whole of this verse, as it stands in the psalm, seems to refer to a military triumph. Take the following paraphrase: Thou hast ascended on high: the conqueror was placed in a very elevated chariot. Thou hast led captivity captive: the conquered kings and generals were usually bound behind the chariot of the conqueror, to grace the triumph. Thou host received gifts for (Paul, given gifts unto) men: at such times the conqueror was wont to throw money among the crowd. Even to the rebellious: those who had fought against him now submit unto him, and share his munificence; for it is the property of a hero to be generous. That the Lord God might dwell among them: the conqueror being now come to fix his abode in the conquered provinces, and subdue the people to his laws. All this the apostle applies to the resurrection, ascension, and glory of Christ..." - Adam Clarke's Commentary on the Bible - Also you mentioned 1 Peter 3:19: "by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, Tells us Jesus preached to those in prison (captivity)." You left off the rest of the context of that verse i.e. verse 20: "who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. " 'during the construction of the ark' is the key phrase here. These were those at the time before the flood. And the context of this passage is silent about the 'freeing' of the spirits that were in captivity only that He made "proclamation to the spirits"(NASB). It does not say that He brought those spirits to heaven. with grace, terrib |

Before my answers, where do you think Abraham is? 1. Do I think Abraham's bosom is still occupied? - Yes. Because it was used as an endearment term that the Jews understood because Abraham was the father of their nation. i.e.(to lay on the bosom of Abraham) Being in Abraham's bosom was-is to be in paradise. Jesus had yet to ascend to heaven at that time in Luke. After His ascension they were all there together in paradise as He told the thief on the cross. 2. Do I believe that a saint today upon death goes into the presence of the Lord? - Yes. with grace, terrib |

74 | Why were Nazarines forbidden grapes? | Num 6:3 | terrib | 149636
Hi Maude, Welcome to the forum! From : Jamieson, Fausett and Brown Commentary. When either man or woman ... shall vow a vow of a Nazarite — that is, “a separated one,” from a Hebrew word, “to separate.” It was used to designate a class of persons who, under the impulse of extraordinary piety and with a view to higher degrees of religious improvement, voluntarily renounced the occupations and pleasures of the world to dedicate themselves unreservedly to the divine service. The vow might be taken by either sex, provided they had the disposal of themselves (Num 30:4), and for a limited period - usually a month or a lifetime (Jdg 13:5; Jdg 16:17). We do not know, perhaps, the whole extent of abstinence they practised. But they separated themselves from three things in particular - namely, from wine, and all the varieties of vinous produce; from the application of a razor to their head, allowing their hair to grow; and from pollution by a dead body. The reasons of the self-restrictions are obvious. The use of wine tended to inflame the passions, intoxicate the brain, and create a taste for luxurious indulgence. The cutting off the hair being a recognized sign of uncleanness (Lev 14:8, Lev 14:9), its unpolled luxuriance was a symbol of the purity he professed. Besides, its extraordinary length kept him in constant remembrance of his vow, as well as stimulated others to imitate his pious example. Moreover, contact with a dead body, disqualifying for the divine service, the Nazarite carefully avoided such a cause of unfitness, and, like the high priest, did not assist at the funeral rites of his nearest relatives, preferring his duty to God to the indulgence of his strongest natural affections. 75 | Kissing the fringe of prayer cloth? | Num 15:39 | terrib | 149025
Hello Jirehway , Fringes where put on their garments for the rememberance of God's commandments and ordinances: Num 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: Num 15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: Num 15:40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. Kissing the Scroll: Anyone who has the opportunity to attend a synagogue service on a Saturday morning must be impressed by the centrality of God's Word and the way in which it is reverenced in the worship. At the front of the synagogue is the Ark, an ornate cupboard-like structure, which is the focal point of the synagogue. At the beginning of the service the people stand and sing praise to God for this great gift of the Torah as, with great reverence, the sacred scrolls are removed from the Ark and carried around the synagogue on the shoulders of the rabbi and his helpers. Some of the men will reach out to touch the scroll as it passes them, ¨ˆ kissing the fringe ¨ˆ as a demonstration of their reverence for the Word of God. Finally, the scroll is brought to the reading desk, the covers are ceremonially removed and the scroll is lifted high in one final expression of praise to God. As the scrolls are lifted the prayer of elevation is recited: "And this is the Law which Moses set before the children of Israel according to the commandments of the Lord by the hand of Moses . . ." confessing the traditional view that this scroll is the very Word of God. And so begins the reading of the Law. ¨ˆplaceholders are mine to show as highlight¨ˆ http://www.cwi.org.uk/Jewishpeople/Tanakh.htm Also view: Kissing the fringe: "Being Called To The Torah" Where they touch the open Torah with the tzitzit(the fringes at the corners of the Tallit) then kissing the fringe. http://www.betham.org/download/Torah Blessings.pdf Hope this helps, terrib |

76 | What became of the spared women? | Num 31:18 | terrib | 152582
Greetings Patawa, Welcome to the forum! (Numbers 31:18 KJV) But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. [Note: "women children" - the flower had not bloomed yet.] Children: Hebrew - 'taph' As: From the time that as a "taph" he clung to her; or; from an infant; small child They were severely reproved for saving the women alive. It is very probable that Moses had commanded them to kill the women, at least this was implied in the general order to avenge Israel of the Midianites; the execution having reference to that crime, their drawing them in to the worship of Peor, it was easy to conclude that the women, who were the principal criminals, must not be spared. What! says Moses, have you saved the women alive? (Num 31:15). He was moved with a holy indignation at the sight of them. These were those that caused the children of Israel to commit this trespass; and therefore, 1. It is just that they should die. The law in case of whoredom was, The adulterer and adulteress should surely be put to death. God had put to death the adulterers of Israel by the plague, and now it was fit that the adulteresses of Midian, especially since they had been the tempters, should be put to death by the sword. 2. “It is dangerous to let them live; they will be still tempting the Israelites to uncleanness, and so your captives will be your conquerors and a second time your destroyers.” Severe orders are therefore given that all the grown women should be slain in cold blood, and only the female children spared. (Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible) As in the verse: "keep alive for yourselves." either to be handmaids to them, or to be married among them when grown up, and become proselytes, and initiated into their religion. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Since the children were not of Israel bloodline they would be "strangers that sojourn with them". To sojourn: to live with the Israelites and receive their religion (a proselyte). Some verses on a stranger: ((Exodus 12:49 KJV) One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. (Exodus 22:21 KJV) Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. (Leviticus 19:34 KJV) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Children of a stranger: (Leviticus 25:45 KJV) Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. (Leviticus 25:46 KJV) And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour. Word study: stranger; sojourn; fatherless Hope this helps, terrib |

77 | entry to Jerus-cleansingTemple,execution | Deut 12:11 | terrib | 146917
Greetings swaimj, Coming to Jerusalem: The place where the temple was built. This was built in accordance with the promise and command of God, and one and only place to offer and sacrifice. (Deu 12:11 "Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:"). Jesus being The Sacrifice. Cleansing of the Temple: Our Lord is represented here as purifying his temple; and this we may judge he did in reference to his true temple, the Church, to show that nothing that was worldly or unholy should have any place among his followers, or in that heart in which he should condescend to dwell. 1Jo 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." Execution - Sacrifice: The Holy Temple - what a fitting sight to have the Lamb of All Sacrifies submit Himself for slaughter, as decreed by the Old Testament. Mat 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee,..." 78 | Worthless, perverted, immoral | Deut 13:13 | terrib | 150719
Hi Gospelpearl, Belial: (Webster's Dictionary) BE'LIAL, n. As a noun, unprofitableness; wickedness. As an adjective, worthless; wicked. In a collective sense, wicked men. Deu 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; (Easton's Bible Dictionary) Belial Worthlessness, frequently used in the Old Testament as a proper name. It is first used in Deu 13:13. In the New Testament it is found only in 2Co 6:15, where it is used as a name of Satan, the personification of all that is evil. It is translated “wicked” in Deu 15:9; Psa 41:8 (R.V. marg.); Psa 101:3; Pro 6:12, etc. The expression “son” or “man of Belial” means simply a worthless, lawless person (Jdg 19:22; Jdg 20:13; 1Sa 1:16; 1Sa 2:12). 79 | Why do all pictures of Jesus neglect one | Deut 22:12 | terrib | 113620
Prosemetic, Jesus was not after the order of the Aaronic priests but was after the order of Melchisedec. (Heb 5:6 KJV) As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews, chapters 5 - 7, explains this in more detail. And many paintings show Christ as a very hansom man, yet Isaiah states He was not comely. And many show a sunburst around His head. Paintings are imaginations. If we had a true picture of Jesus would not some start to worship the picture and turn it into an idol? terrib |

80 | Evidence of different requirements? | Deut 22:12 | terrib | 113662
The Priesthood of Melchisedec was an everlasting priesthood, therefore it would not change and it was instituted before the time the Aaronic Law was given. The Law of the Priesthood was given to the tribe of Levi. It is impossible to consider Jesus as an Aaronic priest, for He was descended from the tribe of Judah and not from that of Levi. The Levi line was the lawful tribe to be the Priests of the tabernacle. This was the only tribe that was not promised an inheritance of realestate in the promised land. Their lot was to attend to the matters of the tabernacle - temple. (Heb 7:14 KJV) For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. And you are right about the cross becoming an idol. I do take offense that some even have a dead Christ on a cross. For the mental picture that this envisions to an unbelieving world is death, not life. The Jesus I know was taken from the cross and ascended to His throne and is alive today! For without the resurrection His death would be moot, for His promises would be empty. (Joh 11:25 KJV) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: terrib |
