Dear jtvd, Greetings and welcome to the forum. The limitations of this forum are 5000 characters per answer. To answer all these questions would take considerably more than this limitation. And it would become difficult to determine just what question one is answering when there are so many asked at one time. If you would like to break these down into separate questions the task would be much simpler to follow any train of thought that is offered. Also, by the structure of these questions it appears that these are exam questions. Are we to assume that you want us to do your homework for Theology 101? 42 | WHAT IS THE FISRT LIGHT? GENESIS 1:3 | Gen 1:3 | terrib | 146546
Taken from John Gill's Commentary: Gen 1:3 - 'And God said, let there be light, and there was light: it at once appeared; "God commanded light to shine out of darkness"; as the apostle says, 2Cor 4:6 this was the first thing made out of the dark chaos; as in the new creation, or work of grace in the heart, light is the first thing produced there: what this light was is not easy to say. Some of the Jewish Rabbins, and also some Christian writers, think the angels are designed by it, which is not at all probable, as the ends and use of this light show: others of them are of opinion, that it is the same with the sun, of which a repetition is made on the fourth day, because of its use and efficacy to the earth, and its plants; but others more rightly take it to be different from the sun, and a more glimmering light, which afterwards was gathered into and perfected in the body of the sun (f). It is the opinion of Zanchius (g), and which is approved of by our countryman, Mr. Fuller (h), that it was a lucid body, or a small lucid cloud, which by its circular motion from east to west made day and night (i); perhaps somewhat like the cloudy pillar of fire that guided the Israelites in the wilderness, and had no doubt heat as well as light; and which two indeed, more or less, go together; and of such fiery particles this body may well be thought to consist. The word "Ur" signifies both fire and light. Ref: (f) Vid. Menasseh ben Israel conciliator in Gen. qu. 2. (g) De Operibus Dei, par. 3. l. 1. c. 2. col. 239. and l. 2. c. 1. (h) Miscell. Sacr. l. 1. c. 12. (i) Milton seems to be of the same mind:----- -----and forthwith light. Ethereal, first of things, quintessence pure, Sprung from the deep, and from her native east To journey thro' the airy gloom began, Sphered in a radiant cloud, for yet the sun Was not; she in a cloudy tabernacle Sojourned the while.----- Paradise Lost, B. 7. l. 243, c.' -end of Gill's commentary-- Also, in verse 5, "and there was evening and there was morning, one day." This is the first occurrence of this as well should be, and note that it does not say a definitive 'and THE evening and THE morning'. And because of the use of 'dividing the light from darkness' would perhaps be the beginning of the rotation of the masses of "the deep". Although much is said about this and the Scriptures are a little vague, look at the context of these events. The basic context is about the creation of the universe. If we spiritualize too much of this we must conclude, by the context, that in God also dwells darkness and that is a contradiction. (1Jo 1:5 KJV) "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." In reference to all these things it may help to read the whole of Proverbs Chap. 8 which talks about wisdom. Then in verse 27, "...when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:", (compass - made a circle). As in Isa. 40:22, ..."He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth..." There is no contension about this subject, for as EdB stated, "we don't begin to understand how God does things". These are commentaries on the verse in question and I hope that this forum has given you some things to consider. terrib |

43 | WHAT IS THE FISRT LIGHT? GENESIS 1:3 | Gen 1:3 | terrib | 146552
The use of "the morning and the evening" denotes in itself a time frame and it has to be related to something and in this instance it would have to be in connection with the light that was created. A variation of light intensity. This is why I suggested the rotation of the deep. This is when days (or 24 hours as we know them) started to be counted. For it says in six "days" He created the heavens and the Earth and the works therein. Also what we know as "time". Take away the physical laws (as we now them) that God has put in motion and there is no time. From everlasting to everlasting. The best to you in your adventure. terrib |

45 | Tree of life VS Tree of Knowledge | Gen 2:16 | terrib | 149754
Hi umagumadog, Concerning questions: "What would have happend if man had ate of the tree of life before he did the tree of knowledge? Man had Gods permision to eat from it so why didn't he?" Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of EVERY tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt NOT eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Capitals are mine for enhancement.) Is there some Scriptural reference that says that man did NOT eat of the tree of life? Except AFTER their sin. terrib Interesting screen name, does it have some significance to you? |

Hi umagumadog, There weren't any angels involved. They were cherubims. A different heavenly creature than angels. Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Weather they ate of the tree of life or not wouldn't matter. God said don't eat of the tree of knowledge or you will die. If they ate of the tree of life and disobeyed they would die. If they did not eat of the tree of life and disobeyed they would die. It was the disobediance that brought the sin on them, not the tree of knowledge itself. Plus the Scriptures does not tells us if God even told Adam and Eve that there was a tree of life. So they may have been oblivious to it to begin with. Does that help? terrib |

Hey Kalos, "'Answer: Cherubim / cherubs are angelic beings" : No, they are Cherubimic beings. Unless by the term "angelic" it is meant heavenly. "Prior to his rebellion Satan was a cherub (Ezekiel 28:12-15)." Eze 28:12 "Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD;..." This is speaking of the king of Tyrus. Ezekiel 28:12-15 does not mention Satan. Come on Kalos, you know that is talking in a similtude. If we took that kind of allegory then God was a chicken for Scripture tell us : Psa 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Where in Scripture does it say angels have wings? Where in Scripture does it say Cherubims are angels? Your brother, terrib |

Hi Tim, Eze 28:11-19 1. What was the renown of the king of Tyre. He is here spoken of as having lived in great splendour, Eze 28:12-15. He as a man, but it is here owned that he was a very considerable man and one that made a mighty figure in his day. (1.) He far exceeded other men. He was looked upon to be as wise as the reason of men could make him, and as happy as the wealth of this world and the enjoyment of it could make him; in him you might see the utmost that both could do; and therefore seal up the sum, for nothing can be added; he is a complete man, perfect in suo genere - in his kind. (2.) He seemed to be as wise and happy as Adam in innocency (Eze 28:13): “Thou hast been in Eden, even in the garden of God; thou hast lived as it were in paradise all thy days, hast had a full enjoyment of every thing that is good for food or pleasant to the eyes, and an uncontroverted dominion over all about thee, as Adam had.” One instance of the magnificence of the king of Tyre is, that he outdid all others princes in jewels, which those have the greatest plenty of that trade most abroad, as he did: Every precious stone was his covering. There is a great variety of precious stones; but he had of every sort and in such plenty that besides what were treasured up in his cabinet, and were the ornaments of his crown, he had his clothes trimmed with them; they were his covering. Nay (Eze 28:14), he walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire, that is, these precious stones, which glittered and sparkled like fire. His rooms were in a manner set round with jewels, so that he walked in the midst of them, and then fancied himself as glorious as if, like God, he had been surrounded by so many angels, who are compared to a flame of fire. And, if he be such an admirer of precious stones as to think them as bright as angels, no wonder that he is such an admirer of himself as to think himself as great as God. Nine several sorts of previous stones are here named, which were all in the high priest's ephod. Perhaps they are particularly named because he, in his pride, used to speak particularly of them, and tell those about him, with a great deal of foolish pleasure, “This is such a precious stone, of such a value, and so and so are its virtues.” Thus is he upbraided with his vanity. Gold is mentioned last, as far inferior in value to those precious stones; and he used to speak of it accordingly. Another thing that made him think his palace a paradise was the curious music he had, the tabrets and pipes, hand-instruments and wind-instruments. The workmanship of these was extraordinary, and they were prepared for him on purpose; prepared in thee, the pronoun is feminine - in thee, O Tyre! or it denotes that the king was effeminate in doting on such things. They were prepared in the day he was created, that is, either born, or created king; they were made on purpose to celebrate the joys either of his birthday or of his coronation-day. These he prided himself much in, and would have all that came to see his palace take notice of them. (3.) He looked like an incarnate angel (Eze 28:14): Thou art the anointed cherub that covers or protects; that is, he looked upon himself as a guardian angel to his people, so bright, so strong, so faithful, appointed to this office and qualified for it. Anointed kings should be to their subjects as anointed cherubim, that cover them with the wings of their power; and, when they are such, God will own them. Their advancement was from him: I have set thee so. Some think, because mention was made of Eden, that it refers to the cherub set on the east of Eden to cover it, Gen 3:24. He thought himself as able to guard his city from all invaders as that angel was for his charge. Or it may refer to the cherubim in the most holy place, whose wings covered the ark; he thought himself as bright as one of them. (4.) He appeared in as much splendour as the high priest when he was clothed with his garments for glory and beauty: “Thou wast upon the holy mountain of God, as president of the temple built on that holy mountain; thou didst look as great, and with as much majesty and authority, as ever the high priest did when he walked in the temple, which was garnished with precious stones (2Ch 3:6), and had his habit on, which had precious stones both in the breast and on the shoulders; in that he seemed to walk in the midst of the stones of fire.” Thus glorious is the king of Tyre; at least he thinks himself so. - Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible - So from commentary to commentary we go. One about Satan and the other not. :-) 1Co 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly..." Red is gray and yellow white, But we decide which is right. Hi Doc, That is the point. Cherubims have wings Angels do not. They are different types of creatures. Scripture has always seperated them to their specific duty. I hope you're not getting an association from the word "angelic". terrib |

Hi umagumadog, Thank you for being so honest about the pride thing. Not many would have admitted that. Stay honest before God and man; and there's nothing to forgive on this end, for as soon as I read your post, it was put behind me. Out of the abundance of all the good trees in this world we have to go for the bad one. What a difference in Adam's life had taken place. Abounding in the love and friendship of the Lord and then hiding himself from that love. And right away, sin takes a partner, unrepentance. For Adam tries to shift the blame to the woman and to God Himself. Gen 3:12 "...The woman whom thou gavest to be with me...". It is a good lesson to reflect on. Maybe you could write in your personal profile how you came to the Lord and a little about yourself. Knowing a bit about you can help everyone get to know you better and glory in our Lord. Gal 6:6 "Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things." Stay in prayer and share everything with God, for He is our Teacher. Your brother, terrib |

55 | So she should only be eating fruit? | Gen 2:16 | terrib | 152319
Greetings Songbirdca, It must be remembered that in the first days of this new creation herbs and trees were plentiful. Animals were only beginning to multiply and be fruitful. If Adam started eating meat at the first he would destroy and make extinct certain species; and as God had plans for the survival of man so He must also make plans for the survival of the animals. Remember that these were of the first days of creation and as such we must look at these things in that light. Did God give the giant whale teeth to eat with or does it strain plankton and brine shrimp? Did He give the eagle the hooked beak and strong talons to hold onto grain only? Or did God know that these things, over time, would be needed for survival? Just as He knew that in time man would eat meat: (Genesis 9:3 NASB) "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. (Genesis 9:4 NASB) "Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. It is ominous for us to say what God's intentions were. In reading Job 38-41 God expresses Himself to man. And in the end we must replay with: (Job 42:1 NASB) Then Job answered the LORD and said, (Job 42:2 NASB) "I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. (Job 42:3 NASB) 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' "Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know." (Job 42:4 NASB) 'Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me.' (Job 42:5 NASB) "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You; (Job 42:6 NASB) Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes." And let us not forget: (1 Timothy 4:1 KJV) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:2 KJV) Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (1 Timothy 4:3 KJV) Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (1 Timothy 4:4 KJV) For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: (1 Timothy 4:5 KJV) For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.(ref. Gen 9:3) In love, terrib |

56 | So she should only be eating fruit? | Gen 2:16 | terrib | 152399
Hi Songbirdca, "But how can a perfect world (Eden) have included meat-eating?" I never said that it did. I said: " If Adam started eating meat at the first he would destroy and make extinct certain species;". They were created on the same day. So, if you kill one of them to eat how would they reproduce? And the Scriptures do not say that they ate meat either. Not until after man sinned was there a change. Like I pointed out before, the direct authority written in Scripture was given to Noah (Gen 9:3-4). And that was about 600 or so years after Adam. Abel, the son of Adam, was a keeper of sheep (the first shepherd slain by his own kind), now whither he raised the sheep for food or wool the Scriptures do not expressly say. And when Abel offered sacrifices to the Lord, it does not say that the sacrifices were burnt offerings either. These are innuendoes and can be very speculative. Or consider how Noah knew which were the clean animals and which were the unclean animals to bring into the ark. The Scriptures are silent about how Noah knew these things. And yet we can see, with a spiritual eye, that when God made coats of skin for Adam and Eve, they beheld the first death recorded, the first sacrifice for sin, a blood sacrifice, Christ in a figure, who is therefore said to be the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Rev 13:8). And God covered them. We can also see a difference in attitude, were before the sacrifice they hid from the Lord, but now a tone of reverence and faith when Eve (concerning Cain) says, "I have gotten a man from the LORD." (Gen 4:1), a glad thing and even a praise to the Almighty God who saved them through His grace. So, who taught Cain and Abel to sacrifice...?, the parents. Gen 4:4 "And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof", notice the inference to the Mosaic Laws, 'the firstling and the fat is the Lord's'... another shadow of things to come ... ? Did Adam and Eve eat meat after the first sacrifice ... ? In love, terrib |

59 | where can i find lilith in bible | Gen 5:4 | terrib | 110244
Hi lola, The name Lilith has not come up on a search in the Scriptures. Where did you get the name? The Lord told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and mutliply. At the time there where no laws given for marrying ones sister. The commandment was to be fruitful and multiply. Adam lived 800 years after he had Seth. (Gen 5:4) And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: Not only after the birth of Seth, but before, though we have no account of any, unless of Cain's wife; but what their number was is not certain, either before or after; some say he had thirty children, besides Cain, Abel, and Seth; and others a hundred. Josephus says the number of children, according to the old tradition, was thirty three sons and twenty three daughters. (These families had at least five children, for one son is named as well as other sons and daughters. Therefore there must be at least three sons and two daughters in each family. For a family to have at least three sons and two daughters, according to the laws of chance, a family must on the average have nine children for this to be a near certainty. Hence the families listed in this chapter must have been large by today's standards. Given their long life, this is not at all unusual. However even today, the Old Order Mennonites of Waterloo County in Ontario and Lancaster County in Pennsylvannia, have many families this large.) Hi Mikeb1758, Welcome to the forum. Adam had other sons and daughters: Gen 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: At the time, the command was to be fruitful and mutiply. Whether Cain took his sister or an offspring of one of his brothers' is not said. We can't judge yesterday with the laws of today. Hopes this helps, terrib |
