I'm a bit surprised they wouldn't mention that aspect since all four images portray Jesus Christ. I have Dake in my library. I'll chaeck him out. Hoton and Morris I'm not familiar with. I'm usually not in much agreement with Jeremiah; too much emphasis on salvation and not enough on what's after that.. McArthur, much the same. [I worked at his fathers office years ago.] I'll see if I can find and share my sources with you. Thanks EdB. BTW, What do you think? That's more important than what they say.... |

[1 Cor. 12:13 (ESV) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body? Jews or Greeks, slaves or free?and all were made to drink of one Spirit. All believers receive the Spirit baptism. [Don't be embarassed over this. Most of the church never sees it either.] How very condescending of you.] [All believers receive the Spirit baptism.] That is not the Baptism of Christ with the Holy Ghost, re: Acts 2. Per John 20.22 is the Baptism into the Body of Christ Now what truth am I missing? --------------- Do us both a favor....Read. Do Acts 1 again for, the first time. Then try: Luke 3:16 (NASB) John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. |

Try these out. John 15:22 (KJV) If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. John 15:24 (KJV) If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. Proverbs 26:12 (KJV) Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. |

Try this: Think of Mary [the mother] as the Church. Who did she nurture from an infant until He was placed in His ministry? Questions: Did she save anyone? How did she get the infant that she could nurture it? What was the spiritual condition of the infant when she got it? Think about it. Defintion: infant equals innocence. |

You stated: "He also give us strength to tell others about the gospel message and helps us remember the verses to share with others." What strength do you need to tell others that you don't already possess? |

[For some reason, if you wrote this topic to start a discussion you should not do that, because this is a forum for people who do not understand something or are seeking an answer. As such, if someone answers it is your responsibility to read the bible and study that answer after someone posts an answer for you.] That's what I did with you and you tell me I'm wrong. Here: 1 Cor. 12:7-10 (NASB) But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. [8] For to one is given the word of WISDOM through the Spirit, and to another the word of KNOWLEDGE according to the same Spirit; [9] to another FAITH by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of HEALING by the one Spirit, [10] and to another the effecting of MIRACLES, and to another PROPHECY, and to another the DISCERNMENT of spirits, to another various kinds of TONGUES, and to another the INTERPRETATION of tongues. Care to count them? |

[and to answer one of your other questions... the baptism of the Holy Spirit happens at conversion..when a person is saved. Everyone who is saved has the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of their salvation, the seal of God, and because we have him in us, he will be our councelor and guide in our new life in Christ as well as our scriptural teacher (this is per scripture, not my opinion, but i agree with it because it is in scripture).] A very wrong interpretation of scripture, dear "youthful" one. Please compare John 20:22 (NASB) And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. with, Acts 1:4-5 (NASB) And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Remember who was He speaking to in Acts 1? Aren't these the same people He "breathed on" in John 20.22? Don't be embarassed over this. Most of the church never sees it either. |

Most theologians view this as representative of God's creation. Most!, Ed? I don't think so. Here's why.... Lion of the tribe Judah.....Matthew Ox, the servant, beast of burden....Mark Man, Jesus...Luke. Eagle, Son of God, Christ...John "Thus all of God' creation is represented by these creatures"....In this I can see where you can right, EdB. |

All of the gospels are referred to in the OT and in Revelation. By their being mentioned as such I would think that God sought to give addition "proofs" of their inspirations. Ezekiel 1:5-10 (NASB) And within it there were figures resembling four living beings. And this was their appearance: they had human form. [6] Each of them had four faces and four wings. [7] And their legs were straight and their feet were like a calf's hoof, and they gleamed like burnished bronze. [8] Under their wings on their four sides were human hands. As for the faces and wings of the four of them, [9] their wings touched one another; their faces did not turn when they moved, each went straight forward. [10] As for the form of their faces, each had the face of a man, all four had the face of a lion on the right and the face of a bull on the left, and all four had the face of an eagle. Rev. 4:7 (NASB) And the first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle. All of this is represented by the four gospels. |

[Ken hepting - Steve has been a responsible user of this Forum for nearly two and a half years. He has got on well with his peers on the Forum and has earned the respect of nearly everyone on the Forum and that certainly includes me. I would suggest to you, Ken, that before you start calling people like Steve arrogant you examine closely the manner in which you have been interacting with others on the Forum. Do you understand what I'm saying? --Hank ] I understand perfectly well what you are saying but when anyone [and I don't give a hoot who it is] chooses to change my words or misrepresent what I state and then declare me to be "wrong"..."Bad theology", without a hint of kindness. ...He/She is arrogant and FULL of PRIDE. If that fits anyone here from convictions maybe they should to take note. I've done injury to no one's "Christianity" and have done my utmost to be accurate without protecting any agenda driven by dogma from the past; False teaching that enslaves and is cruel. You people seem to relish in it and then turn three shades of anger when anyone reveals it or approaches it's doorstep. There is even one individual here who asked a question and received many answers but none satisfied, ...got indignant until the right one was given and then said "That's the one I was after" or was looking for then began to praise the one who gave it [who was all wet]. So what's with that? The answer was already known by that individual and wanted it spoken by someone else? I was puzzled but now I believe a understand. Is this, a platform for pushing one's agenda or for sharing thoughts, ideas and insight from what one reads. Do you think you have all the truth...Forget it! Have you connected all the dots in the mystery of Christ and His Church? You can forget that, too. Maybe you all to grow up a little, stop your crying and see the liberty in Christ that is there for everyone who loves Him. Maybe that's the ticket..stop being superficial. With exception, I haven't heard one of you with depth of knowledge who would last ten minutes with one who does. That's sad....pitiful. Ken |

[Steve asked you for chapter and verse. You say, 'how about common sense.' Since this is a StudyBibleForum, let's stick with chapter and verse. Do you have one to offer Steve on the subject he requested? --Hank] There is no chapter and verse many times that speak with specifics when explaining ones understanding of scripture. Most of the time it is scriptures that paint the picture and must be taken in context. Chapter and verse for what he asked is silly. How's that? She said strength...I said it should be wisdom. That's my opinion based on the scripture[s]. Now what's the need for "chapter and verse" except to be disagreeable...That's sad. And as far as me pontificating to Steve... He's presented himself to me as one who is arrogant. |

[Evangelica was more correct concerning gifts. Consider the following] Context, Steve, context. I don't believe you know how to "discern" when you read to learn what the scriptures are saying. Consequently your "wisdom" and word of "knowledge suffers. For instance: It is the Grace of God, not Graces. It is the gift from God, the Holy Spirit.. who gives gifts to men. If you wish to say being an Apostle is a gift of God you would be correct but it is an Adminstration and not a gift in the sense of the Holy Ghost who adiministers gifts to edify the Church and build one up in the Holy Ghost. Get my drift? [Romans 15:13 (ESV) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.] Yes...And. The above mentions joy. What "joy" would that be, Steve? [Ephes. 3:16 (ESV) that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,] .....In your inner being. Do you know how that happens? When you see it [with your spiritual eyes] you will understand it is His power of Himself in you functioning and not power that He gives you...And no you are not made into a robot because the Spirit is always subject to the Prophet.1 Cor. 14:32 (NASB) and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; Read 1 Corth 14.(NASB) For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries......The One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself...." I.e., builds himself up in the Holy Ghost. It is Him in you and upon you that is the strength, not just something He gives you should you be lacking the Mind of God. [Maybe you'd like to correct me for saying Mind of God instead of Mind os Christ?] [You said: [Strength should be a "Wisdom" as to when to speak combine with what to say.."word of knowledge".] Chapter and verse? How about common sense when reading the text in context? You should know what the context is by now. I don't know anyone who needs strength to speak except the one with larengitis [sp?]. Therefore I conclude wisdom be the thing that is needed as to when we should speak the word of knowledge. |

"The Holy Spirit does not give us "powers". He gives us gifts." All of the Holy Spirit is given to us as the "Unction to Function". He is the 'Linen Garment' spoken of in Esk.44.17,18. Jesus baptises with the Holy Ghost and with fire. See Acts 2. That still happens today. "The gift of discernment",...yes "the gift of understanding",...I think no. "the gift of teaching, or preaching, or encouraging, or serving...ect.....None of the these are gifts and serving is more of a fruit. "The Holy Spirit also empowers us to live for God No. That you do because you love God. The love you have for Him should be sufficient. "by guiding and teaching us what scripture says when we are reading it..... Yes. "He also give us strength to tell others about the gospel message and helps us remember the verses to share with others." Strength should be a "Wisdom" as to when to speak combine with what to say.."word of knowledge". Can you see why the baptism [per Acts 2] is so important? Nine Gifts: 1 Cor. 12:7-10 (KJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. Word of wisdom Word of knowledge Faith Gifts of healing Working of miracles; Prophecy Discerning of spirits Divers kinds of tongues Interpretation of tongues: Five administrations: Apostles, Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists, Helps. Three offices; Prophet, Priest, King. Hope this has been a "Help" to you. Ken |
