["Answer me this question: Were there the "Elect" in the Old Testament?" Yes. :)] How could there be? No salvation by the Christ; No "coming unto the Father except the Spirit draw him"...cause He hadn't been given yet. In other words there was no regeneration available so when the 'righteous' died they went and waited to be redeemed. Isn't that right? If not where'd the righteous go? If you say there was none righteous then please explain a few people to me. David, Daniel, Jeremiah...Need I go on? But then, on the other hand, if you say God chose first strictly for His good pleasure then what you are saying is God is a respector of persons. But then that's not so, correct? |

Thank you EdB. That's my heart. Jesus saves, I can't. He just said make disciples. I'm assuming He already hasum saved. That's the way I like to look at it. Of course my responsibility, as I understand it, lies in being perfect myself; that I have influence by His Holy Spirit upon me. I desire that of all who are hungering as I have. In that hungering lies salvation. Thanks again, my brother, for your kind words. I sensed something deep within you from the first. |

[I'm sorry Ken but what you are saying is that salvation is possible by works of the law as well as by faith.] I didn't know that. I thought I was stating the man could always make choices on his own; a God given ability, you know. |

[You didn't really answer my question. The Bible referred to certain people as "righteous," and then in other places say that "no one is righteous." If we assume that the Bible gives a consistent message, how can we conclude that both statements are true?] By reading the verses in context. Answer me this question: Were there the "Elect" in the Old Testament? |

If all could [and I know full well the struggle in discernment of the issues] keep in mind that none of this should ever be debate but a sharing that we be perfected. Here we are, a people with all this technology at our disposal that we be able build up and encourage and this is what happens? It does require one thing....Openness to the scriptures and a coming away from pet doctrine, or would dogma be a better word? Jesus is coming soon. Will He find faith when He comes or debate? Even the "elect" must be on the wall. The elect must do their job in perfection and teach others the narrow way that they be brought into the kingdom of God relationship that they too prosper and come into perfection as Jesus commanded.. The "Elect" are those that Love Him. Go and teach all nations ...about the kingdom. |

You're out of context. You must think of God as more loving than you do. Remember, in the fulness of time Christ came. That means God's appointed time when His purposes [and all scripture be fulfilled] for setting His people free [those who recognized Him in whatever fashion and lived with a clear conscience in "their" own way of righteousness outside a written law that wasn't even written] Jesus said in Luke 4:18 (NASB-U) "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, Proclaim release? Who'd He release in a physical sense except those in paradise who died with the promise waiting for him to show up? I'd venture a guess that most there didn't know it was Him they were waiting for.. |

[Rom 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified] Read on and finish it: Romans 2:14-16 (NASB-U) For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, [15] in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, [16] on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. [Rom 3:10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;] Pertaining to what? Standing in the presence of God!? I agree. Who makes that possible but Jesus? Who did he come to set free, the living or the dead? Think about Him setting free the living AND the dead who died with the hope and in their righteousness while on on Earth, honoring God as their conscience dictated. [Based upon Paul's letter to the Romans, the people you are wondering about have never existed!] You mean based on someone's [I won't mention his name] interpretation of what he thought Paul was saying. Too bad he didn't have the sense to keep it in context with the rest of scripture. |

[Hell, because no one is righteous (Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:9 ff.) and:] OOOOH!! Ouch!! Genesis 6:9 (NASB-U) These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God. Exodus 23:7 (NASB-U) "Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty. 2 Samuel 4:11 (NASB-U) "How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hand and destroy you from the earth?" Psalm 5:12 (NASB-U) For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord, You surround him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 7:9 (NASB-U) O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God tries the hearts and minds. Psalm 37:16 (NASB-U) Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked. Psalm 64:10 (NASB-U) The righteous man will be glad in the Lord and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory. |

Not good enough, John...of to jail with you! Try this:Exodus 20:5 (NASB-U) "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, Notice: no mention of mother here only father [Adam] That's also the reason Mary didn't have to be born "sinless". |

[On this foundation, infants must be members of the new covenant if they are to be saved. God has not said how He has achieved this end.] Sure He has, John. Does not this verse imply that: 1 John 3:5 [NASB-u] "......in Him there is no sin. Now lets put that with His words in Mark where says this and make no acceptions or exclusions given the age: Mark 10:14 (NASB-U) But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Again, may I remind you that there was nothing to hinder that priviledge the children had. No law....no sin imputed. They couldn't be denied for such is the Kingdom made of...Why read into it "stuff" that's not there. [Nevertheless, I believe that He has made a way for those who were incapable of actually sinning themselves, but who were subject to judgement because of imputed sin.] Ok but you offer nothing because there is nothing other than "no law, no imputed sin" condition of the individual to support that, which is sufficient for my argument. Even the 'Downs syndrome people' are exempt under those guidelines even though they may be adult. That should bring comfort to alot of people. [Matt 24:30,31 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other. Notice that there is no mention of any one but "His elect" being gathered together.] And who's the 'elect', John, except those who abide in Christ and reside in His Kingdom here on Earth? Do you know what kind of a person that is? If you do then you should realize the challenge we all have and not continue to think all professing Christians will make the rapture. [I have found no evidence that there are "others" in heaven who have been saved apart from union with Christ, which your theory would neccessitate.] Rev. 20:12 (NASB-U) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. The books, John, who's in there and were their names written in there before or after the resurrection? |

[Under the New Covenant Christ (the second Adam) is our covenant head. He did not fail the test but, even though He was tempted, He did not fall! As a result of His perfect obediance, His righteousness has been imputed to those who are in covenant with Him, who are said to be "in Christ".] Easy now, what about those now dead who have never heard to name of Christ yet lived righteous lives? Where are they and why? |

[Gee Ken, why don't you ask me a hard question? :-( But, seriously, God has revealed only that which He is pleased to reveal, and your question must remain unanswered (at least by me). I think that the answer to the fate of innocents may be found in an examination of the covenental relationships that God has established between Himself and men. The first Adam was the covenant head for his wife and all of his posterity. If Eve alone had sinned the race as a whole would not have her sin imputed to them. But when Adam fell we all fell in him.] I understand, John. My aim is to get us to see things STRICTLY from the Biblical explanation and not extra "stuff' handed us supposedly of a doctrinal "Bull" since alot of it is that. You speak of Adams sin and I agree whole heartly with you but need you to say what [verse/chapt] you base that on. I gotta laugh on this because if you get it right you get a prize, if not go directly to jail without passing go. Once you see this you'll have to conclude some things. |

[The pursuit of holiness is a lifelong struggle of waging a fierce war against one's sin (1 Peter 2:11) and putting one's sin to death (Colossians 3). It is effort on our part (hence all the New Testament commands to "strive" and "press on" and "labor"), but the strength comes from the Spirit of God (Colossians 1:29) and it is God working within us through the means He provides to change our disposition and give us resolve to obey Him (Philippians 2:12-13), all for His glory.] In principle I agree but the specifics are to vague. Peter speaks of purifying ones "soul". To me that speaks of crucifying ones self. "...the violent take it by force". However the violent don't work from their own self effort but from life taught from the "law of Life" [Rom.8.2] So when you speak of the pursuit of holiness it must mean the pursuit of Christ who produces in me the 'fruit' of His Spirit one of which is "Holiness", His. So our effort, in overcoming, is because we take into orselves more of Him [His Law of LIFE] and not a fruit of His character. Today my need may be to be holy but tomorrow what will my need be? Patience? Long suffering? Joy? So as the song says, "Just give me Jesus" and then I must learn to abide in Him to become a "son brought into glory". This is kingdom of God living and the violent do take it by force. |
