61 | Why does Paul's imprisonment lessen fear | Phil 1:14 | prazn | 86328
Paul, as well as other believers, have less fear because we trust in our Lord. God is sovereign. He has promised, all who believe in Him, eternal life. Since we do not fear death, what else on this earth can we possibly fear. We know the Creator of the universe; what can man do to us? What's more, as Paul so eloquently wrote: Rom 8:35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom 8:36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." Rom 8:37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Rom 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, Rom 8:39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |

62 | Scriptures about striving to grow? | Phil 2:12 | prazn | 85678
Here a few, JRM, 2 Peter 1:5-11 in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge; 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness; 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. NAS Rom 12:9-21 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. NAS Eph 4:17-5:1 17 This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. 25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you, with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28 Let him who steals steal no longer; but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need. 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. 63 | Peace with Cancer | Phil 4:7 | prazn | 87948
I am sorry to hear about your friend. I pray that the Lord will restore his health. In the meantime, the following Scriptures will help: Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. In other words, your friend should pray to the Lord about every concern or anxious thought. 1 Peter 5:7 to cast all of our cares (anxieties) upon the Lord because He cares for us. He should fill his mind with pleasant thoughts, including scriptures (especially the Psalms) that specifically address "healing" (e.g., Ps 6:2, Ps. 30:2, 42:11, Ps. 103:2, Ps. 107:20, Ps. 147:3). 2 Cor 13:11 Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Peace in Christ! prazn |

64 | Peace with Cancer | Phil 4:7 | prazn | 88030
I've never battled the horrific disease of cancer, but I, as all other Christians do (at one time or another), suffer from infirmities that threaten to shake my faith in God. Though I may not see the outward manifestation of my healing; I believe that the Lord is able to heal me and I will never stop believing that. He may not be willing to heal me, according to my timetable, but He is the Great Physician, so I chose to stand on His word. "Though He slay me, I will hope in Him." Job 13:15 His plans are "to prosper me and not to harm me, to give me a future and a hope." And, if I die in the torment of my affliction, I will also die in faith believing that He wanted to heal me. Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever: Matt 9:22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, "Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well." At once the woman was made well. Mark 5:34 And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction." Mark 10:52 And Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road. Luke 7:50 And He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace." Luke 8:48 And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." Luke 17:19 And He said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has made you well." Luke 18:42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." Peace! prazn |

65 | can a women preach and teach men | 1 Tim 2:12 | prazn | 85864
Actually, God's word says that there should not be many teachers, of either gender: "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." James 3:1 The only One who can correctly teach a born-again believer is the Holy Spirit: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." 67 | Difference in believing? | James 2:19 | prazn | 86906
Greetings! The following scripture comes to mind, in response to your question. In it, James (under the influence of the Holy Spirit) tells us that demons believe in God. However, we know that demons do not serve our Lord. By comparison, those of us who believe God (like Abraham) demonstrate our belief by what we do in response to His Word. James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. James 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. James 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? James 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. This scripture is not talking about a "works" motivated mindset, in the sense of how many hours each day I am compelled to spend in prayer or in helping at a homeless shelter, for example. Notice that Abraham did not "do" anything, except believe that the Lord was able to revive his son, had Abraham struck the fatal blow. Consequently, in response to his belief, he obeyed the Lord's command to him. If we believe God, we will obey Him. |

69 | Some additonal questions on this verse | 1 John 4:3 | prazn | 87531
Dear Mommapbs, The Lord showed me, afresh, the following scriptures this morning. I believe that they answer the questions that you and I recently posted in this forum: Eph 2:1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins [UNREGENERATE MAN], Eph 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air [SATAN], of the spirit [OF SATAN] that is now working in the sons of disobedience [NON-BELIEVERS]. Eph 2:3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath [NON-BELIEVERS], even as the rest. The following scripture implies that any religion or individual who denies that Jesus is the Christ is antichrist. And, of course, if one denies the power of Jesus to save mankind, they also deny God the Father. 1 John 2:22 "Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." The following speaks of our Lord's mercy on the children of wrath/disobedience, for we are all "sinners saved by grace": Eph 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), Eph 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; Eph 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Blessings! prazn |

70 | 1 John 5:16-17 | 1 John 5:16 | prazn | 86070
"Sin" is rebellion against God (or willful disobedience). Take Adam and Eve, for example. God gave them one commandment. But, they disobeyed and as a result of their sin, they lost the close fellowship with God that they once enjoyed (i.e., spiritual death). God is Spirit. Human beings can only communicate with God through our spirits, which are only made alive when we have received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Apparently, there are sins which result in "spiritual" death. If we continually neglect our relationship with our Lord (i.e., fail to regularly read His word and pray), "spiritual" death is a certainty. Also, if we fail to consistently confess our sins to the Lord, we cannot expect to maintain a healthy or close communion with the Lord. Hope this helps. |

71 | Rev. 19:10 - "spirit of prophecy"? | Rev 19:10 | prazn | 85690
Sarah, The verse that you referenced refers to the apostle John and the angel who revealed the prophecy to him. Rev 1:1-3 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. NAS The following is from Barnes' Notes, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1997: Rev 19:10 [For the testimony of Jesus] The meaning here seems to be, that this angel, and John, and their fellow-servants, were all engaged in the same work that of bearing their testimony to Jesus. Thus, in this respect, they were on a level, and one of them should not worship another, but all should unite in the common worship of God. No one in this work, though an angel, could have such a pre-eminence that it would be proper to render the homage to him which was due to God alone. There could be but one being whom it was proper to worship, and they who were engaged in simply bearing testimony to the work of the Saviour should not worship one another. [Is the spirit of prophecy] The design of prophecy is to bear testimony to Jesus. The language does not mean, of course, that this is the only design of prophecy, but that this is its great and ultimate end. The word "prophecy" here seems to be used in the large sense in which it is often employed in the New Testament-meaning to make known the divine will (see the notes on Rom 12:6), and the primary reference here would seem to be to the preachers and teachers of the New Testament. The sense is, that their grand business is to bear testimony to the Saviour. They are all-whether angels, apostles, or ordinary teachers-appointed for this, and therefore should regard themselves as "fellow-servants." The design of the angel in this seems to have been, to state to John what was his own specific business in the communications which he made, and then to state a universal truth applicable to all ministers of the gospel, that they were engaged in the same work, and that no one of them should claim adoration from others. Thus understood, this passage has no direct reference to the prophecies of the Old Testament, and teaches nothing in regard to their design, though it is in fact undoubtedly true that their grand and leading object was to bear testimony to the future Messiah. But this passage will not justify the attempt so often made to "find Christ" everywhere in the prophecies of the Old Testament, or justify the many forced and unnatural interpretations by which the prophecies are often applied to him. |

72 | Why is the devil released after 1,000 yr | Rev 20:8 | prazn | 121992
Scripture states that the devil will be released, after the millenial reign of the Lord Jesus Christ, to deceive the nations and to gather them to wage war against the inhabitants of Jerusalem (Zech 12:9). In this final conflict, which is prophesied to take place in the valley of Megiddo (Zech 12:11), the devil is at last cast into the lake of fire and those who remain on earth will worship the King of Kings, our Lord Jesus Christ! Glory to God in the Highest! Amen! and, Amen! prazn |
