61 | Homosexuality | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 91152
Searching333, Although I sympathize with your anger and dismay over the decline in our culture, the fault lies with the church and not liberal activists. We are the ones who have surrenderd our responsibility to be salt and light to a wicked and evil generation. It is the church who has been wooing the lost with promises of health wealth and happiness instead of warning them of the destuction that is about to fall upon them! We have mixed politics with religion and placed our faith in political parties rather than in the power of the gospel. Pray for the homosexual, present him with the truth of God's Word and do so in love. Pray for a reformation in the church in America! Let us repent and plead with the Father to bind us together with sound doctrine. Pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten us and give us the courage to carry out the Great Commission given us by our King. How can we of all people, fault the sinner for doing what we once did ourselves and worse! What seperates us from the lost souls? GRACE! We should be the last ones to cast stones. We know what we deserve, and but for God's mercy we would be cursing Him from the bowels of Hell for all of eternity! Let's get the logs out of our own eyes, then we can help the others. Politcal reform is a good idea but it must not be seen as a solution to what is a spiritual battle. If it's political action you seek, I would encourage you to get involved. But this is not the place. God Bless John Reformed |

63 | In the Pentauch God is Holy must I be? | OT general | John Reformed | 42221
Dear Map, If you don't mind, I'd lile to answer the short question: In the Pentauch God is Holy must I be? As a christian our righteousness and holiness are to be found in Christ. As members of His body we are covered by the garment of righteouness. If we could fulfill the commands of God ourselves, we would not have needed Jesus to keep them for us. Read Galatians. 64 | Is Limited Atonement Bibical? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 35151
Dear Brother Zacht, As you have probably noticed, I have been posting the majority of my resooses to Tim Moran. In no way was this meant to be a slight to you. I am a "newbie" to the forum and I hope you will chalk up my apparent discourtesy to my ignorance of proper protocal. I am very grateful that you posed this question for it has proved to be a tremendous benefit to me personally. In my attempt to defend the scriptual basis of Limited Atonement, I discovered holes in my own understanding of it. If it appears as if I have shifted ground somewhat from my earlier posts on the topic, it is because I was made aware of my mistakes and have been trying to discover the truth and praying for the enlightenment that Christ has promised us: John 8:32 "and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." God bless you bother Zacht, John "John Refomed" Adams |

65 | What does the NT say about suicide? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 38089
Dear Rachel, I can't think of a specific verse that addresses suicide directly. However, it should be apparent to anyone who reads the NT that suicide is a sin. Heb 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. When trials assail us and all looks hopeless is a holy time for a christian. It means God is refining us like a silversmith who heats up the silver until all the impurities come to the suface. He then skims them off the top and the silver is made purer. It can be very painful. But the good Lord knows what is best for us and we must trust Him if we would be worthy of bearing His name. Remember, Christ is the author and finisher of our faith. Tell your friend or whoever it may be that promted you to ask this disturbing question, to find God's promises to His children and to cling to them as a drowning person clings to a life preserver. Gods word never fails. It will keep us all afloat til we reach that "Golden Shore". But we are to arrive at the time He has provided. I pray the Holy Spirit will use my poor words to comfort and stregnthen any one considering such an unworthy act. We are soldiers in the service of our King. Not cowards who flee the battlefield. God Bless you Rachel, Brother John |

66 | Hebrews 6:6 explained | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 38557
Dear lonely blue, You have asked a very good question. You will probably recieve a variety of answers. After all is said and done, it will be the Holy Spirit who will lead you to the truth through your own study of His Word. Having said that, I would be happy to share with you my understanding. First of all, God never, ever contradicts Himself. If we read two verses that seem to contradict each other, you can rely on the fact that it arises from our ignorance, not an error in God's Word. A sermon by C.H. Spurgeon, a man greatly used by God, was a great help to me on this question. (You can find it at www.spurgeon.org). The Bible teaches that once we have become a part of the Body of Christ through faith in Jesus, we are covered with His righteousness. We are released from the curse of the law and are saved because of Christ's death on the cross. He died in our place. As Christians we serve Him out of love. He is the One who works within us to bring us closer to him. Therefore, our salvation is in His hands, not ours and because He never fails we can be secure in Him. I beleive what Paul is saying is that, it is impossible for a christian to fall away completely from Christ because if he did, it would be impossible for him to be saved a second time. When Jesus died on the cross, He said it is finished. Christ will never be crucified a 2nd time. Trust in Christ alone and place no confidence in your own ability. I have found great freedom and great joy by looking unto Him. You may even have to change your screename to Loved1! God Bless you, John |

Dear Fudges, I'm not an expert on ecclesiology but for what it's worth is my opinion. First of all they are two different denominations and "divorce" is only one of many differences between them. They each interpret the Bible differently. Jesus said that God hates divorce. That does not mean that it is forbidden under all circumstances. Scripture spells out under what circumstances divorce is permissable and I'm sure you can find it yourself without trouble. God Bless, John |

Dear Pete, The fact that you are asking questions may be a sign that God is drawing you to Himself. Jesus said that no one can come to Him (Jesus) unless they are drawn by the Father. If God is drawing you, He will teach you the truth of the gospel. We are not expected to toss reason to the wind when we seek to know God. He is the one who has given us this capacity in the first place. Keep seeking and you will find; keep knocking and the door will be opened to you. I pray that he will give you grace. John Reformed |

70 | cristian can i bieng a man look | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 83625
Dear 1Master, Matt 5:28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. I remember reading this verse (Before I was saved), and being floored by it! I immediately closed the Bible and gave up the idea of following Christ. I knew that I could not do it. I even tried to avoid looking, but my good intentions did not last long. When God (years later) opened my eyes to the truth, I saw that in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was showing the pharisees the impossibility of becoming righteous by works of the Law. As Christians we are to strive for righteousness in obdiance to the commands of our Lord, but we do so because of our love for Him who has Himself become our righteousness! Our position "in Christ" is the reason that we have peace with God and why we will not be judged according to our keeping (or breaking) of the law. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We all long for the day when we will be absolutely free from even the desire to sin. Until that day arrives we must continue to fight the good fight against the world, the flesh and the devil. You are not alone. John |

71 | Is there a pretribulation rapture? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 84040
Dear Agape, It depends on who you ask. Some say there is a "secret rapture". This is a popular doctrine in most churches today, but does not have a very long history as doctrines go. Personaly, I believe that when Christ returns it will be no secret. 1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. I find that it a wise policy to follow the example of the Bereans. They tested the doctrines which Paul taught, by comparing it with the written Word. John Reformed |

72 | Can someone explain sanctifacation | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 86391
Dear coastlineinc, Great question! Let me first give you what I believe is a very good definition from Easton,s Bible Dictionary: Sanctification - involves more than a mere moral reformation of character, brought about by the power of the truth: it is the work of the Holy Spirit bringing the whole nature more and more under the influences of the new gracious principles implanted in the soul in regeneration. In other words, sanctification is the carrying on to perfection the work begun in regeneration, and it extends to the whole man (Rom. 6:13; 2 Cor. 4:6; Col. 3:10; 1 John 4:7; 1 Cor. 6:19). It is the special office of the Holy Spirit in the plan of redemption to carry on this work (1 Cor. 6:11; 2 Thess. 2:13). Faith is instrumental in securing sanctification, inasmuch as it (1) secures union to Christ (Gal. 2:20), and (2) brings the believer into living contact with the truth, whereby he is led to yield obedience "to the commands, trembling at the threatenings, and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come." Perfect sanctification is not attainable in this life (1 Kings 8:46; Prov. 20:9; Eccl. 7:20; James 3:2; 1 John 1:8). See Paul's account of himself in Rom. 7:14-25; Phil. 3:12-14; and 1 Tim. 1:15; also the confessions of David (Ps. 19:12, 13; 51), of Moses (90:8), of Job (42:5, 6), and of Daniel (9:3-20). "The more holy a man is, the more humble, self-renouncing, self-abhorring, and the more sensitive to every sin he becomes, and the more closely he clings to Christ. The moral imperfections which cling to him he feels to be sins, which he laments and strives to overcome. Believers find that their life is a constant warfare, and they need to take the kingdom of heaven by storm, and watch while they pray. They are always subject to the constant chastisement of their Father's loving hand, which can only be designed to correct their imperfections and to confirm their graces. And it has been notoriously the fact that the best Christians have been those who have been the least prone to claim the attainment of perfection for themselves.", Hodge's Outlines. Looking up the referenced texts would provide a wonderful Bible study. I look forward to hearing what you discover. God Bless, John Reformed |

73 | Jesus and the Holy Spirit ? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 88078
Dear Mike, As I am pressed for time, please allow me to attempt to reply to the question which for me seems the simplest to answer. 5. If he did have the Holy Spirit before he was baptized, why is it that he could only perform miracles of turning water into wine Jn 2:1-11 healing Mt 4:23 after the Holy Spirit had ascended on him Mt 3:16. It is not a matter of what Jesus could or could not do. We must remember that Christ came to do only that which His Father sent Him to do. John 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. John 5:36 "But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish--the very works that I do--testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. 74 | Is "once saved, always saved" Biblical? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 95622
Welcome Pete St. Jean, Have we been saved by an act of free will or by grace? If one believes that salvation is a choice made independently of God's grace, then it stands to reason that the free will rejection of salvation is also a choice one might take. On the other hand, if one's salvation was a result of God's choice, then we have been saved by grace and are kept by grace as well. Arguements abound on both sides of this doctrine. Each side appeals to the Bible for it's support. Personally, I come down on the side that believes Salvation is a result of The Father's choosing of individuals whom He gives to His Son. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit insures that these chosen ones (elect of God) will perservere and be with Christ for eternity. Easton's Bible Dictionary: Perseverance of the saints - their certain continuance in a state of grace. Once justified and regenerated, the believer can neither totally nor finally fall away from grace, but will certainly persevere therein and attain everlasting life. This doctrine is clearly taught in these passages, John 10:28, 29; Rom. 11:29; Phil. 1:6; 1 Pet. 1:5. It, moreover, follows from a consideration of (1) the immutability of the divine decrees (Jer. 31:3; Matt. 24:22-24; Acts 13:48; Rom. 8:30); (2) the provisions of the covenant of grace (Jer. 32:40; John 10:29; 17:2-6); (3) the atonement and intercession of Christ (Isa. 53:6, 11; Matt. 20:28; 1 Pet. 2:24; John 11:42; 17:11, 15, 20; Rom. 8:34); and (4) the indwelling of the Holy Ghost (John 14:16; 2 Cor. 1:21, 22; 5:5; Eph. 1:14; 1 John 3:9). This doctrine is not inconsistent with the truth that the believer may nevertheless fall into grievous sin, and continue therein for some time. (See BACKSLIDE.) I suggest you study the above verses and pray for enlightenment. It is critical that you arrive at the truth. If you get it wrong the error will effect how you view God and His rule over His creation. God Bless you as you study, John Reformed |

75 | What about those who have never heard of | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 98284
What about those who have never heard of Christ? No one is is either lost or saved apart from God's eternal purpose. Those who never have heard of Christ have not been drawn by God. No one can come to Me (Christ) unless the Father draws them. (John 6) God has not ordained that all shall recieve His mercy. Some do and others don't. Does this seem unfair? See Romans 9. Keep in mind the fact that all who die without Christ are guilty of sin. It is not unfair that lawbreakers are punished for what they have done. God owes man NOTHING! If He chooses to save some and to allow others to die in teir sin, He is pefectly justified in doing just that. "Where is Gods mercy in eternal damnation of a people for the traditions of their fathers?" His mercy cannot be demanded, it is ginen according to His good pleasure. Salvation is by grace and is given for the same reason; It pleased Him so to do.(Rom 9) "One thing to remember, God is not the authory of confusion, Christs teachings are more meaningful if using commonsense in reading" Commonsense is a good thing, but, without the enlightenment of the Spirit man cannot understand His teaching at all. 77 | Having problems with my faith. | Genesis | John Reformed | 34375
Dear Chyna, I certainly can empathise with your feeling about animals. I love animals and I'm sure most Christians do as well. After all The God we love made them. Animals' along with the rest of Gods creation, are a remarkable testimony to their Creator's marvelous power, wisdom and kindness. I believe God made them as part of the blessing He gave Adam and Eve. Animals were meant to bring joy to our first parents. Tragically Adam and Eve sinned against God and, not only Adam and Eve but the entire Creation fell under the curse of sin. We cannot blame God for the consequences of a crime man committed. The bible says that the whole of creation is groaning under the burden of that single act of rebellion. Not all things in the Bible are equally easy to understand or accept. Over my years as a Christian there have been many things that disturbed and puzzled me concerning the way in which God rules His Creation. Many of those thorny questions have been answered, Praise God, but not all. Without faith it is impossible to please God. I wonder if I had perfect understanding of all of God's works, what would I need Faith for? Many times in stuggling with difficult teaching in scripture, I find myself in the roll of a prosecuter questioning God on why He did this and why He did that. Sometimes it seems to me that God just is'nt fair! Chyna, you and I are not alone in this. All of us question God's actions from time to time. The problem is that at times like that we are guilty of putting God in the dock and accusing Him of wickedness. We forget that everything God does is perfect and pure and holy and righteous, it is us who are imperfect and impure and wicked. When God restores me to my senses I remember that he said "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding". We must pray and be good students of His word and also do as you have don e, bravely confessing to your brothers and sisters in Christ your doubts and fears. If my answer to your question has helped you to resolve any of these difficulties, let me know and we will praise Him together. God bless you Chyna with grace and peace |

Dear Roxy, The Bible does'nt give us an answer, yes or no. Either way we do know that Heaven will be where all the love that we have ever longed for will be. Personaly, I do hope there are animals in Heaven, and God certainly enjoys creating things to delight us with. Just look at all the animals on Earth. I don't see why they would't be any in Heaven. 80 | Forgiving of sin | Gen 1:1 | John Reformed | 42656
Dear Handy, Read Romans Chapter 7. Even the apostle was burdened by the remnants of sin He still had in his flesh. John said: 1 John 1:8...If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. Confess your sins and look to the righteousness of Christ. Rom 10:4...For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. God Bless Handy, John Reformed |
