Dear Glen, Is 43:1-3 But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. "For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place." Is 54:10 "For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you. Matt 18:12 "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? Matt 18:13,14 "If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. "So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish." Of course if you rather rely on yourself than on God.... well, I would'nt recommend it. John Reformed |

25 | eternal security | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 43340
Dear Scribe, Forgive me but this seems to be a rehash of the discussion on He 6:6. Neverthless, I must admit it is a favorite topic of mine. I do understand your incredulity about people who profess faith in Christ but continue to fall into egregious sin. It does make one wonder. I have some besetting sins as well (I'll keep them between God, my Pastor and myself) and as a result have questioned my own salvation from time to time. Once convicted I am quick to seek God, to confess and to repent. As a rule, this leads me to redouble my efforts to take advantage of the means of grace that the good Lord has placed in His Church. Study of His Word so that I may not sin against Him. Renewed zeal for good works (made possible out of love and gratitude for my forgiveness). Faithful attendance and worship in the community of the saints and partaking of the bread and the wine in remembrance of Him (we gather on Sundays). Considering my own wickedness, I find it difficult, Nay! Impossible to judge the eternal destiny of anyone. If yhey are His, then who am I to judge another man's servant. Unfortunately the churches in America have neglected or abandoned altogether the Biblical mandate to exercise discipline in the Church. Perhaps if it were restored some may be brought to repentance, others may have to be turned over to satan that perhaps in the end they may be saved. At least some wolves may be shown the door out! Not all who profess Christ and have been baptized are regenerated.John writes : 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. God Bless Scribe, John |

26 | Can you lose your salvation? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 44117
Dear DD, You are right in believing that once we are renewed by the Holy Spirit (Born again or born from above) we are eternaly secure in Christ. Some folks will throw a lot of verses at you to "prove" their point. They may even appear to be quite pious. But verses can be taken out of context. Be carefull to examine any verse as it relates to the entire passage from which it is taken. For instance: 1 Tim 5:15...for some have already turned aside to follow Satan. Paul is instructing timothy on how Timothy should insruct and discipline members of the church. Does church membership automatically mean a person is saved. Of course not! 1 Tim. 4:1 the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. Departing from the faith does not mean losing one's faith or salvation. I know one man personally who had been a deacon. He sought to divorce his wife without a scrap of scripual justification. The church sought to correct him, but sadly he denied Christ and was excommunicated by the Elders. If he dies in his sin (God forbid) unrepentant, it will prove him to have been a false brother all along. Not that He lost his salvation. Any discerning saint could point out error in any verse which is misused to support false doctrine. Keep Studying John Reformed |

27 | Any scriptures on slain in spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 50275
Dear Enriched, I was a member of a pentacotal church for over 10 years. I witnessed many hundreds of people "slain in the Spirit" during that time. I believed it was the work of God because I was told that it was the work of God. The Pastors, the elders, the people, everyone said it was the work of God. Occasionally verses were offered as proof of it's being scriptual. I remember having doubts as to how these verses proved anything close to modern day falling backwards under the power, but I put my concerns aside. After all, who was I to question those who were much more holy and learned than me? Big Mistake! Now I question everything that does not seem right. The Bible is the only sure truth that we have. If a doctrine of any church cannot be clearly supported by God's Word, I cannot, indeed must not recieve it. Did the Apostles employ catchers? Benny Hinn does. Pehaps, after a woman was killed at one of his meetings (a heavy woman fell over backwards onto her), he decided it may be a good idea (Documented in Counterfiet Revival by Hank Hanegraaf). You can search til TV preachers stop asking for money, but you will not find Biblical support for this modern day phenomenon. Hope I have helped. John |

28 | are there some people born evil? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 52007
Dear Winfieldd, All people are born under the curse of sin. Therefore all are born evil. God was not obligated to save anyone. But because of His mercy, He has saved some and passed by the rest. Rom 8:28-31 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? Did I answer your question? John |

29 | Can a Christian dance? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 52590
Dear Jeshuafreak, Congradulations on your upcoming marriage. May the Lord bless you with many little Jeshuafreaks! To the question: May christians dance (and I presume you mean, aside from dancing that glorifies the Lord directly)? Now, I don't think that you would advocate making up a long list of dues and don'ts that christians are to follow. That would putting the saints under man-made laws. And laws can get very complex. For instance. Lets say we do prohibit secular dancing. Would that apply to married couples? Or a groom who wanted to dance with his bride. We don't want to throw out the baby with the bath water. There is plenty of room in the Scripture for romance as God planned it. Since you will be honeymoooning soon, perhaps you should re-read the Song of Solomon. Sensuality is a gift from God. It is up to us not to missuse it. The Scripture already contains all we need for righteouss living We have liberty in Christ to do all things that are pure. I'm not suggesting we pattern ourselves after the worst things in our culture, but neither do I think that everything that is not strictly "christian" is therefore necessarily wrong. We have God dwelling in us. We know what is sin and what is not. Your thoughts? John |

30 | scripture reference... | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 57365
Dear mbooker, I have been doing a word search on your question and have not found the verse I'm looking for but it says someting like "what do you have that you have not been given". The point is scriptural even if my quote is inexact. Illustration: A beggar approaches a servant of the King and asks for a loaf of bread. Now, the servant has instructions from his King to feed the poor, and has also been told that if he does so he will be rewarded. Because he desires to be found obedient by His Lord he gives the beggar the loaf of bread. Question: Has the King,to whom all belongs (the loaf, the servant and the beggar),now become a debtor to the servant? John |

31 | Short List of Dubious Theology? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 60100
Hi Tim, Dubious: doubtful or not settled. My reference is to eschatology in general and pre-millenialisn in particular. But it is not the eschatological view in itself that disturbs me. It is simply the hype and hoopla that that surrounds the marketing of christianity in America, as if it were a commodity. T-shirts, belt buckles, bumper stickers, sensational books and movies etc. A multi billion dollar business..Ain't it wonderful. Oh me oh my. John John |

32 | God is in control of every single atom? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 61767
Part One- -I hope this will help. 1. Inability does not rule out responsibility The Scripture asserts unmistakably man's total inability to transform his character by his own unassisted wit and energy, so making himself Christlike. This is beyond his capacity. "Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil" (Jeremiah 13:23). "No man can come unto me except the Father who sent me draw him," says the Lord Christ (John 6:44). The act of true and simple faith in the Lord is impossible apart from the drawing and gracious gift of the Father. Jesus again tells us that except a man be born again he cannot see or enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:3,5). Yet, there are commands with which God confronts every single person. For example, "You must be born again" (John 3:7); "God commands all people everywhere to repent" (Acts 17:30); and "Love the Lord your God with all your heart." Are they sincere commands? Absolutely. All creatures are responsible to their Creator. Do not such commands presuppose a modicum of ability? No. Not since the fall of our father Adam. God deals with people according to the standards of responsibility and obligation, not according to the measure of ability. John Murray says, "If obligation presupposes ability then we shall have to go the whole way and predicate the total ability of man." Why are the commands given? They are a revelation of the will of almighty God, and they also make men realize their helplessness. One result of the inability of man being preached is that people are forced to stop trusting in themselves. This shuts them up to rely upon God's grace. It is not the conviction of helplessness that keeps men away from Christ; it is the opposite: "I cannot come to him, but I must come to him. What fearful inability! What high responsibility! Who shall deliver me from this dilemma? I thank God for Jesus Christ the enabling Saviour." 2. Certainty does not rule out necessity All that God has determined to do will most certainly be achieved: "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please" (Isaiah 46:10). The plan of God is unchangeable, because God is faithful and true (Job 23:13-14). It is unconditional, that is, its execution does not depend on any action of man but even renders such action certain (Acts 2:23; Ephesians 2:8). Moreover, it is all-inclusive, embracing the good and the wicked actions of men (Ephesians 2:10; Acts 2:23), contingent events (Genesis 50:20), the duration of a man's life (Job 14:5) and the place where a man will live (Acts 17:26). It ensures the certain salvation of a vast number of favoured sinners. Yet the certainty of God's secret will being accomplished does not rule out the necessity of men doing all that God has commanded in the Bible. When Paul was told that the Lord had many people in Corinth he did not sit on a chair on his veranda waiting for Corinthians to drop decision cards in his lap. For eighteen months he taught the Word of God to all in Corinth who would hear him (Acts 18:11). He did it beseeching them to believe, stretching forth his hands to them, entreating them to repent. He wept for them. He prayed for them all, and he asked others to pray. He visited them privately, debated with his opponents publicly, and apologized if he offended them by harsh words. He sought to live a Christlike life before them so that in nothing would his message be maligned through sin. He knew God's chosen people in Corinth would most certainly confess Christ, but that knowledge in no way ruled out the necessity of his living a God-fearing and fervently evangelistic life. |

34 | Finding 'Act as though you have faith' | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 71940
Dear Davel Welcome to the forum! I encourage you to provide us with some info on yourself. It is a way we get to know on another better. Just click on:"update user info". Now to your question. You asked if "Act as though you have faith, and you will be granted faith." is in the Bible. No it is not. The concept is not consistant with the biblical teaching that faith is an unmerited (for no one can earn or deserve it) gift from God. Eph 2:8,9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Acting as if one has faith would be a form of work that one would perform. God Bless, John Reformed |

38 | Is predestination true? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 73808
Dear Iveysgurl, You asked: "how can EVERYONE that believes have everlasting life if he picks and chooses??" Only those whom God draws will believe (John 6:44). The rest will continue to suppress the truth. (Rom 1 and 2) Remember, faith is a gift from God.(eph 2:7,8) Gifts are given at the will of the giver. No matter what men may teach about the Bible, it is up to each student to prove it by Scripture, which is the final authority. God Bless, John Reformed |

39 | Explain baptsim of holy spirit | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 73971
Dear Bunty, John 7:38,39 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you are assured by Scripture, that the Holy Spirit, like rivers of living waters, is (even now) dwelling within you. Fred Zaspel writes: "The New Testament is equally clear in its teaching that when a man is saved he is given all he needs to complete his spiritual growth; he does not need to wait for anything else or any later blessing. Now there is the definite need of growth, and that growth can only come through certain means; but even the newest Christian has all the equipment necessary for worship and service." "Perhaps no verse of Scripture states this wonderful privilege any more clearly than does II Peter 1:3, which affirms that believers have been given " all things that pertain unto life and godliness" (italics added). There are no "have nots" in the body of Christ; not a member has been cheated or left out. This very point is also stressed in Romans 6, which declares that in his struggle with sin in this life, the Christian has all that is necessary for victory because of the sufficiency of Christ's work. The provision is complete for every believer." John Reformed |

40 | How I do to stop sinning? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 81476
Dear Talmid, 1 John 1:10 "If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us." Rom 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. (read Chapt. 7 of Romans). We do not have a license to sin. Sin is an offense to our Holy God. Nevertheless, absolute perfection in sanctification will not be manifested in us as long as we are burdened with the remnants of our sin nature. We must continue to stuggle against the flesh til the end, but for our righteous standing before God, we must depend on our position "in Christ". He Is our Righteousness. This is one of the reasons I love Him so much. God Bless, John |
