461 | Duet 17:16 why not stable horses | Deut 17:16 | stjohn | 196419
Hi Shannon, God forbade then from multiplying horses, probably because of their association with Egypt. In that day Egypt was very involved with raising horses, Israel would be prone to associate with them in so doing, as we can see in the life of Solomon, who did indeed, multiply many horses, and did indeed have relations with Egypt, which was not what God wanted; He brought them out of that land, and, did not want them going back, or even, looking back. 463 | Wear a Cross around neck? | Matt 6:25 | stjohn | 196391
Hello Grace, It doesn't appear that the wearing of a cross would, or, would not be wrong, or, be it somehow showing, that we would be more holy; It would, however, depend entirely on the individuals condition of heart, wether it is wrong. If it were being done to mock God, it would certainly be wrong. Matt 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? It would seem that Jesus is telling us, to worry more about our salvation and the willingness of our hearts to follow Him, and, obey Him. God bless John THE CROSS “Still I shall rule, and my own will perform Even thro’ the sway which Satan holds on earth. Kings, emperors, and governors hold rule By me; and my own Providence performs Its pleasure here, and will perform, even through The policy whereby those rulers rule; Yea, even when most they would denounce my sway. And though to mine their kingdoms stand adverse, They shall in all their pomp and pride abide Until that hour; when, with an iron rod, I shall to pieces break them, and shall dash To fragments, as a potter’s vessel, all, To rise no more forever. Teach ye this To them and to my Church; that all may know That here no government, whatever pretext It may assume of sanctitude to gain Communion with my Church, shall to my Word Obedient be reformed till I return. Not reformation waits them; they have earned Destruction, and destruction shall be theirs. And hence, let not my followers hope to find Repose on earth; for here, till then, abides For them affliction, tribulation, toil— Not triumph; (save that which the truth attains Over error, as my kingdom still extends;) And hence, thro’ tribulation much, they pass Into the heavenly kingdom and their rest.” --Robert Wharton Landis, Professor in Danville Theological Seminary, 1870. |

465 | Explain Godhead Trinity? | Luke 3:22 | stjohn | 196285
Hello Grace, I dare say I don't think you will get a better answer than the one that Brother Brad has given you to your last question. One God, In three persons. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. By the way, this is not something that any mortal is capable of understanding, faith plays a major roll in this. But Luke 3:22 gives us a clear picture of the three, Jesus is being baptized, the Dove is a representation of the Spirit, And the voice from Heaven is, God the Father. "and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." Another point is that, Scripture declares throughout that there is but One God. Hope this helps God bless John |

466 | Scripture search for employment. | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 196274
Hello 2513 Welcome, Personally, I would pray and ask God to open doors, and, I don't mean to sound flip, but then I would open the help wanted section of the local news paper. Maybe others will have some encouraging verses for you. I pray that God will open your eyes to the truth of His word and show that it is not so much how many zeros are in our paycheck, but wether we regard the paycheck as ours, or God's. I recall reading about someone saying to a very successful business man that, he was just "lucky" to have had so many opportunities to reap a profit. The man replied simply, yes, but it seems, the harder I work, the luckier I get! God bless john |

467 | Is. 66, Literal or Spritual? | Is 66:1 | stjohn | 196269
Hey moosee, Welcome to the forum, Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; He is speaking metaphorically, thus it is difficult to apply the question you ask to the verse. Heaven is a literal place, Earth is a, literal place, both are spiritual, depending on your relationship with God, so,... I guess, the answer would be A literal and B spiritual. sorry thats the best I can do. God bless John |

468 | How does God handle a backslider? | Luke 15:24 | stjohn | 196252
Hello kingfish, This could help. "In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. And He said, A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me. So he divided his wealth between them. And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living. Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. But when he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men. So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his slaves, Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; for this son of mine was dead has come to life again; he was lost and has been found. And they began to celebrate." Luke 15:10-24 I don't know how normal your case is, but this is how God feels about one of His sheep that was lost, and was living in the pig pen, but has come home! God bless John p.s. Welcome back!! |

469 | Are there any scriptures in the New Test | Acts 11:9 | stjohn | 196248
Hi melissanakley, Welcome, Here is Jesus answering those that were criticizing His despises. "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. "These are the things which defile the man;" Matt 15:17-20a Also in Acts it talks about eating; Acts 11:5-10 "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me, and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling creatures and the birds of the air. "I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter; kill and eat.' "But I said, 'By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.' "This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky. So you see the Lord told Peter in no uncertain terms that it doesn't mater what we eat. Of corse, we must be reasonable. ;-) I hope this helps God bless John |

Hello AMIN, a warm welcome to the forum, I don't know about tribes so much, but certainly all can be traced to Noah, and then of corse to Adam. Scripture does not say where or how Abram came to be in the Caldean. His family may well have migrated from another land or, lets say tribe. I don't think we can know for sure. I hope this helps you. 475 | exodus why were the israelights slaves? | Ex 1:6 | stjohn | 196200
Hi Missy Now Joseph, was a friend of the king of Egypt, but when he died and that king died, thing's changed radically. You can read the story in Ex 1:6-10 "Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them. Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we. "Come, let us deal wisely with them, or else they will multiply and in the event of war, they will also join themselves to those who hate us, and fight against us and depart from the land." Exodus 1:6-10 So you see the new king, did not trust them, so he put them in bondage/ [slavery] so he could keep an eye on them. Hope this helps. God bless John |

476 | Fellowship with God or man? | Acts 2:42 | stjohn | 196195
Oh My, Mrs, Dean! Please, I hope you jest when you say you might go with the LDS! It is obvious to us that groups like Hindi or Buddhism, are not Christian. That is what is so dangerous about the Mormons, and others like them, JW's for instance, they have the audacity to call themselves Christian! It's a lie! Their teaching is not Christian, they use the Bible, and say it's true, but, they add another book along with it that does not line up with Scripture. You may want to check out this website, http://www.blueletterbible.org/study/cults/exposem/index.html And keep looking, trust God to put you where He wants you. Remember, it's not a sin if you don't go to Church, except maybe if you do it to expressly forsake fellowship. You are very fortunate to have your spouse! Most of the time, I am alone except for God, but I seldom feel lonely, by the way. God bless John |

477 | Lower parts of the earth? | Eph 4:9 | stjohn | 196172
Michael, It's important not to read more into the Scriptures then they say, Michael, we can miss what God is really saying to us. Read the chapter and find the massage, not look for the fantastic. Here is a quote from, Commentary by A. R. FAUSSET "However, all we surely know is, that His soul at death descended to Hades, that is, underwent the ordinary condition of departed spirits of men." God bless John |

480 | what is free grace | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 196155
Hi Brenda Well, if it were not free, it wouldn't be grace. By its definition grace is free. It's like this, suppose you are a murderer, you are caught red handed, found guilty and sentenced to death, and you deserve it. But instead of the sentence being carried out, the executioner says you can live. Now thats mercy. But then, inexplicably, he brings you home to live in his house to be one of his children, and gives you gifts! Now thats grace! And, it's free! Thats sort of what God does for us, salvation is the free gift of God, by His grace. |
