AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 17:16 "Further, he shall not acquire many [war] horses for himself, nor make the people return to Egypt in order to acquire horses [to expand his military power], since the LORD said to you, 'You shall never return that way again.' |
Bible Question: In Deuteronomy 17:16 one of the rules for the King of Israel is that he must not build up a large stable of horses for himself. Why is that? |
Bible Answer: Hi Shannon, God forbade then from multiplying horses, probably because of their association with Egypt. In that day Egypt was very involved with raising horses, Israel would be prone to associate with them in so doing, as we can see in the life of Solomon, who did indeed, multiply many horses, and did indeed have relations with Egypt, which was not what God wanted; He brought them out of that land, and, did not want them going back, or even, looking back. God bless John |
