47 | pray your flight | Matt 24:20 | prayon | 172079
Greetings Betjburgess and welcome to the forum, Exodus 31:14 says that the Isrealites must keep the Sabbath and if they defiled it and did any work they would surely be put to death. On the Sabbath anything was considered work including traveling. A person was not even allowed to start a fire in their house (Ex 35:3). In addition the gates to the city where locked. A person would of therefore been unable to flee the city when they saw the abomination of desolation. Fleeing in the winter is pretty much self explanatory. It would of been very cold. Hope this helps your understanding. prayon

51 | EXPLAIN VERSE 10 IN MARK CHP:5 | Luke 4:34 | prayon | 171834
Greetings Romanz and welcome to the forum! There are different views as to what this verse means. One view is that they did not want to go back to perdiction from where they came from but that would not be sending them to another country. I believe that the word country should be taken literally. The area that they were in was Gadarenes which was a heathen country where the people did not know God.They wanted to stay in that country because they knew the dispositions and tempers of the people in the area. Their authority and power were great here and they could act with less restraint. They did not want to go to a new place that might of been full of Christians where they would not of had the same authority. prayon
52 | Building Endurance | James 1:2 | prayon | 171749
Greetings Jason, It means that whatever situation or trial we are in we should be joyful whether we are in that trial because of earthly things or whether we are in battle in the spiritual world. We should never be depressed or "down and out". God is instructing us to remain joyful in all situations. I have found that no matter how difficult the situation is, no matter what I am facing I can always find something to be joyful about and when I do that it makes the battle easier! prayon |

53 | Who hid their faces? | Is 53:3 | prayon | 171682
Hi Searcher, Is 53:3 is not that they literally hid their eyes. The prophet here, using the first person, spoke for his unbelieving nation's aversion to a crucified Messiah and their lack of respect for the incarnate Son of God. They did not see the truth that was before them. prayon |

Greetings and welcome to the forum! The theme of the book is the judgement of Edom for cursing Israel. Pride was the main sin. It also gives out a few warnings - 1) Anyone who does not help God's people is God's enemy 2) No matter how safe you think you are God can change it 3) You will reap what you sow 4) Destruction comes for those who defy God. Hope this helps. prayon |

56 | What info is available in 1 Samuel 28:7? | 1 Sam 28:7 | prayon | 167127
Greetings and welcome to the forum! In this passage it tells us that Saul has taken his eyes off of God and turned to mediums (witchcraft). These were the exact people that he had already run out of the land (28:3). Saul had rejected God so God removed His prophets out of Sauls kingdom. Since Saul did not have the advice of the prophets he turned to mediums. prayon
57 | how do i come closer to god? | Phil 4:8 | prayon | 167118
Greetings and welcome to the forum! You are not alone in your fears - many people have felt that way. Every emotion that you mentioned - fear, doubt, and unworthiness are not from God - they come from Satan. What is happening is you are seeking God and when you seek God you become a threat to Satan and his plans. Any time you become a threat to him he will put every type of emotion he can to stop you from growing closer to God. Here are some scriptures that will help you when you begin to doubt in God. Fear: Psa 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation. Who is there to fear? The LORD is my life's fortress. Who is there to be afraid of? Psa 34:4 I went to the LORD for help. He answered me and rescued me from all my fears. Isa 41:10 Don't be afraid, because I am with you. Don't be intimidated; I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will support you with my victorious right hand. 2Ti 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Doubt: Joh 20:27 ...do not be ready to disbelieve but to believe." Heb 12:1 Since we are surrounded by so many examples of faith, we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin that distracts us. We must run the race that lies ahead of us and never give up. Discouragement: Jos 1:9 "I have commanded you, 'Be strong and courageous! Don't tremble or be terrified, because the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.'" Mat 17:20 He told them, "Because you have so little faith. I can guarantee this truth: If your faith is the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Unworthiness: Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them. Gen 1:26-27 And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth. And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female. Psa 139:14 I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are marvelous and my soul knows it very well. Always remember do not dwell on your fears but instead Phi 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts on whatever is right or deserves praise: things that are true, honorable, fair, pure, acceptable, or commendable. Hope his helps, prayon |

58 | What proof do you find in Genesis 22:10- | Gen 22:11 | prayon | 167115
Greetings Hana, I believe you are talking about verse 11 not 10. Angel of the Lord literally means 'messenger of Yahweh'. If you look at Ex 3:2 it says that the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in the burning bush. In verse 6 it says that the voice said "I am the God of your Father - the God of Abraham..." therefore if it says the Angel was God here it must mean the same thing in every other instance. (Principle of Context) prayon
59 | How does Gen. 22:10-14 show another side | Gen 22:10 | prayon | 167113
Greetings Hana, In the previous tests God tested whether Abraham would give into temptation. This test, called the test of unshakable faith, was different because it tested Abraham's heart. God told Abraham to kill his only son and with that ending the Abrahamic covenant since this was Abraham's only son. prayon
60 | Who in the Bible built Babylon? | Gen 10:10 | prayon | 167111
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Babylon means “The Gate of God.” In the Assyrian tablets it means “The city of the dispersion of the tribes.” The monumental list of its kings reaches back to 2300 B.C., and includes Khammu-rabi, or Amraphel, the contemporary of Abraham. Babylon is first mentioned in Gen 10:10 which tells us it was one of the first cities in Nimrods kingdom. It stood on the Euphrates, about 200 miles above its junction with the Tigris, which flowed through its midst and divided it into two almost equal parts. The Elamites invaded Chaldea (i.e., Lower Mesopotamia, or Shinar, and Upper Mesopotamia, or Accad, now combined into one) and held it in subjection. At length Khammu-rabi delivered it from the foreign yoke, and founded the new empire of Chaldea, making Babylon the capital of the united kingdom. This city gradually grew in extent and grandeur, but in process of time it became subject to Assyria. On the fall of Nineveh (606 B.C.) it threw off the Assyrian yoke, and became the capital of the growing Babylonian empire. Under Nebuchadnezzar it became one of the most splendid cities of the ancient world. After passing through various vicissitudes the city was occupied by Cyrus, “king of Elam,” 538 B.C., who issued a decree permitting the Jews to return to their own land (Ezr 1:1-11). It then ceased to be the capital of an empire. It was again and again visited by hostile armies, till its inhabitants were all driven from their homes, and the city became a complete desolation, its very site being forgotten from among men. On the west bank of the Euphrates, about 50 miles south of Bagdad, there is found a series of artificial mounds of vast extent. These are the ruins of this once famous proud city. These ruins are principally (1.) the great mound called Babil by the Arabs. This was probably the noted Temple of Belus, which was a pyramid about 480 feet high. (2.) The Kasr (i.e., “the palace”). This was the great palace of Nebuchadnezzar. It is almost a square, each side of which is about 700 feet long. The little town of Hillah, near the site of Babylon, is built almost wholly of bricks taken from this single mound. (3.) A lofty mound, on the summit of which stands a modern tomb called Amran ibn-Ali. This is probably the most ancient portion of the remains of the city, and represents the ruins of the famous hanging-gardens, or perhaps of some royal palace. The utter desolation of the city once called “The glory of kingdoms” (Isa_13:19) was foretold by the prophets (Isa. 13:4-22; Jer_25:12; Jer_50:2, Jer_50:3; Dan_2:31-38). The Babylon mentioned in 1Pe_5:13 was not Rome, as some have thought, but the literal city of Babylon, which was inhabited by many Jews at the time Peter wrote. In Rev_14:8; Rev_16:19; Rev_17:5; Rev_18:2, “Babylon” is supposed to mean Rome, not considered as pagan, but as the prolongation of the ancient power in the papal form. Rome, pagan and papal, is regarded as one power. “The literal Babylon was the beginner and supporter of tyranny and idolatry... This city and its whole empire were taken by the Persians under Cyrus; the Persians were subdued by the Macedonians, and the Macedonians by the Romans; so that Rome succeeded to the power of old Babylon. And it was her method to adopt the worship of the false deities she had conquered; so that by her own act she became the heiress and successor of all the Babylonian idolatry, and of all that was introduced into it by the immediate successors of Babylon, and consequently of all the idolatry of the earth.” Rome, or “mystical Babylon,” is “that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth” (Rev 17:18). Hope this helps. (Easton Bible Dictionary) prayon |
