121 | Being filled w/ the Spirit mean tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148541
Greetings Searcher, Acts 8:18 it says that Simon "saw" that these people received the Spirit. What did he see that proved to Him that these people received the Spirit? Also there is no Luke 1:41 or 67 - what scripture did you mean? prayon |

123 | what is the importance of tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148198
Greetings Kalois, on the first point (Acts 4) you are entirely right. It should of read Acts 2:4... my bad... Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, - Praying in the Holy Ghost (or in the Spirit) is praying in tongues. John 14:16,17 - Is debatable but this is the context I am coming from: Continuing to pray and worship in tongues helps us to be ever conscious of His indwelling presence. If I can be conscious of the indwelling Holy Spirit - as praying in tongues does - it is boind to affect the way I live. Romans 8:26 - At the same time the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we don't know how to pray for what we need. But the Spirit intercedes along with our groans that cannot be expressed in words. P. C. Nelson said that the here literally reads,"The Holy Ghost makes intercession for us in groaning that can not be uttered in articulate speech." Articulate speech means our regular kind of speech. James 3:8 Yielding your tongue to the Holy Spirit to speak with other tongues is a giant step forward fully yielding all of yourself to God, because if you can yield this most unruly part of your body you can yield any part. I hope that makes where I am coming from a little clearer kalos, prayon |

124 | Why should a child be baptized? | Acts 2:38 | prayon | 148124
Greetings, A child, as well as an adult, should be baptized when they accept Jesus as their savior. It is an outward sign of their profession of salvation. When it is a baby or a small child and we choose to do it it is actually a dedication. We are dedicating the child to God. We can not choose salvation for anyone but ourself not even our children, it must be their choice. Some churches however believe that you can baptize a baby. prayon |

125 | Is it biblical to speak in tounges? | 1 Cor 14:1 | prayon | 148123
Greetings Marcie and welcome to the forum. Speaking in tongues is today as well as in biblical times. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. What He desired of people in biblical days He desires of us now. Co 14:2,4a When a person speaks in another language, he doesn't speak to people but to God. No one understands him. His spirit is speaking mysteries....When a person speaks in another language, he helps himself grow. I have listed 10 reasons why believers should speak in tongues in my reply to Nomi just above this question in the "answered questions". prayon |

126 | what is the importance of tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148122
Greetings, "1Co 14:2 When a person speaks in another language, he doesn't speak to people but to God. No one understands him. His spirit is speaking mysteries. 1Co 14:4a When a person speaks in another language, he helps himself grow. Here are 10 reasons why it is important for every believer should speak in tongues: 1) Tongues is the initial sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 4) 2) Tongues for Spiritual edification (1Cor 14:4) 3) Tongues reminds us of the Spirit's Indwelling (John 14:16,17) 4) Tonues will keep our prayers in line with God's will (Rom 8:26) 5) Praying in Tongues stimulates faith (Jude 20) 6) Praying in tongues keeps us free from worldly contamination (1Cor 14:28) 7) Praying in tongues enables us to pray for the unknown. (Rom 8:26) 8) Praying in tongues gives us spiritual refreshing (Is 28:11,12) 9) Tongues for giving thanks (1Cor 14:15-17) 10) Speaking in tongues brings the tongue under submission (James 3:8) Hope this helps. I think that the main importance is it draws us into a deeper relationship with God. We let God have a greater control over us when we allow Him to control our tongues. When we pray in tongues we put "us" aside and let "Him". prayon |

127 | Choosing a bilbe text | Matt 10:8 | prayon | 147865
Greetings, I agree with you the King James Version is beautiful but many people can not understand it. I never recommend it to a new believer. May I suggest the New King James Version which is much easier to read or the New International Version which is also very popular. Many blessings to you for this undertaking! prayon

130 | Did Jesus ascend during the 8 days | John 20:17 | prayon | 146982
Greetings and welcome to the forum. There is much contraversy on that point and the bible does not specifically say. It is my belief that He did. Christ said in this verse to not touch Him because He had not yet ascended to the father. But yet in John 20:27 He tells Thomas to touch Him therefore He must of already ascended to the Father. For other view points you can type the verse into the quick search in the upper left corner. prayon |

131 | Corinthians vs. Isaiah | 1 Cor 2:9 | prayon | 146981
Greetings Terib, When Paul spoke these words he adapted them to speak of direct revelation of God imparted to his apostles and prophets and pertaining to mysteries hidden from mankind before the birth of the church. (MacArthur Study Bible) prayon
132 | what if a christian is married to non-ch | 2 Cor 6:14 | prayon | 146980
Greetings, When someone is married to an unbeliever God prefers that you stay in the marriage to be a "light" to the unbeliever - however God does not necessarily want us to remain in an abusive relationship either. We do not give council on the forum because the majority of the users do not have the training to council. What we recommend is that you go to your pastor or other certified Christian counselor. I am sorry that I could not be of more help to you. I will tell you this: REMEMBER! You are the child of a king! YOU are so important to Christ that He hung on a cross and died for you! Do not let the abusive names you are called enter into your mind, heart, or spirit for even a second. Rebuke them immediately! May God bless you with wisdom, strenght and courage. prayon |

133 | crucifiction discrepensies? | John 18:37 | prayon | 146965
Greetings 1way, First you have to remember that there were 4 different people writing the gospels. Each gospel is written in a different style with a different focus. Luke being a physician was more aware of details than the others therefore his book will be much more detailed. John's book focuses on the Diety of Christ. In His answer in John, John goes into more detail because the diety of Christ was being discussed. Different books will focus on different aspects of the same conversation or event. This is what was happening here. The Tables: The two times you mentioned (in Matthew and in Mark) are one in the same. The other instance you were referring to is in John 2:13-17. This was on the Passover at the beginning of Jesus ministry. Because the Jews never recognized the authority of Jesus as the Messiah. Instead they rejected His message making repeated cleansing of the temple highly probable. Hope this answers your questions. prayon |

134 | what if a christian is married to non-ch | 2 Cor 6:14 | prayon | 146960
Greetings aiello - The bible is very clear on that - 2 Cor 6:14: Don't become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That's not partnership; that's war. Is light best friends with dark? (Message Bible). If this does not answer your question please let me know. prayon |

135 | How many trials did Jesus attend? | John | prayon | 146910
Greetings swaimj, Here is the chronilogical sequence of that night: 1) The Last supper - where Christ washed the feet of the disciple, broke bread and prayed. 2) He then went to the garden to pray. 3) In the garden He was arrested by the Jews 4) From there He went to appear before Annas (who was Caiaphas father-in-law) where the first Jewish trial was. This was an informal examination. 5) Annas sent Him to appear before Caiaphas which was the 2nd Jewish trial. The purpose of this trial was to seek false testimony against Him. Theyt chargeed HIm with blasphemy instead (He supposedly blasphemized when He said that He would tear down the temple in 3 days). The bottom line was that they just wanted to put Him to death. Blasphemy was an excuse for them but in reality He died for our sins. 6) Caiphas then sent Him to Pilate. This was the first Roman trial. Pilate interagated Him and found no fault in Him. 7) Pilate sent Him to Herod where He was tried again. Herod was happy to see Him because he was convinced that he would be able to see a miracle. But Christ remained silent. 8) Herod sent Him back to Pilate where He had His second Roman trial. Pilate wanted to let Him go because he knew He was not guilty of anything and he had recognized the jealousy of the Jews. Even his wife told him not to become involved. Pilate was starting to believe that He was the Son of God. Pilate tried to let Him go by proclaiming His innocence so he had Him beat to appease the people. He also offered to release Him according to the Jewish Passover custom. However, when the people yelled if you let this man go you are not Caesar's friend - Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar. Pilate then washed his hands of the affair and handed Him over to the Jews who crucified Him. It is important to note that whole trial was illegal according to Jewish law for the following reasons: 1) Before the trial began it was determinded that Jesus was guilty. Law was that you had to be proven guilty 2) False witnesses were brought to testify against Jesus. 3) No defense for Jesus sought or allowed 4) Trial conducted at night - according to their laws trials must be held during the day 5) High Priest put Jesus under oath then incriminated Him for what He said. 6) Serious charges were only to be tried in the Sanhedrin's meeting place, not in the high priests palace. Hope this answers your questions. Susan |

136 | Most Accurate Bible Translation? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 146850
Greetings and welcome to the forum! I am soooo happy that you are seeking the truth! There are many bibles that are very accurate. The International Bible society has a sight that might help you - http://www.ibs.org/bibles/translations/index.php. It compares each version of the bible. I would pick the one that you can understand the best. I like the God's Word Version and I also use the McArthur Study Bible. Another site that I recommend to everyone is www.e-sword.net. There are many bibles that you can download onto your computer and also has many commentaries and dictionaries to help you in your search for the truth. prayon |
