41 | What is sound doctrine?M.Royal | 1 Tim 6:3 | mark d seyler | 188105
Hi M.Royal, Sound, in this verse, is from the Greek "kalos", which means beautiful, or good. It is used of excellent, and honest. Doctrine is teaching. So sound doctrine is beautiful and good, excellent and honest teaching. Love in Christ, Mark |

44 | Michael ; Isarael's protector? | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188098
I'm sorry, I thought you agreed with the website you were recommending. On the whole, I found their argument unconvincing. If I stay with the straightforward reading of Scripture it seems fairly simple to me. "those "in the know" " - is this an appeal to authority? There are a great many who have studied this passage in depth that do not agree with this. And the idea of Michael as the restrainer of 2 Thess 2 is not a majority view. Thank you for clarifying this for me. Love in Christ, Mark |

45 | Withdrawn or taken out of the way? | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188075
Hi Searcher, As I read the passage, its "becomes out the middle", so that would, to me, be more like the pawn being moved, out of the middle betwee the queen and the rest of the board. Love in Christ, Mark |

47 | Michael ; Isarael's protector? | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188067
Hi InGodITrust, So basically, you're saying that Michael the Archangel, rather than being the active protector of Israel, is the "keeper of the pit", and passively protects Israel by keeping at bay one of its foes? Love in Christ, Mark |

48 | gap therory | Gen 1:1 | mark d seyler | 188064
Hi Cheri, I've been watching a lot of Kent Hovind, www.drdino.com. He's got some great stuff to say on this. In 1611, replenish meant to simply fill up. It didn't take on the meaning of re-fill until the last couple of hundred years. But that aside, the Bible teaches that death came through sin. Therefore, there was no death until Adam sinned. Jesus said that in the beginning God made man. The Gap theory, the day-age theory, all these theories are simply trying to explain the earth's geology without resorting to the flood. In the late 1700's and early 1800's people started promoting these ideas to explain the earth without having to admit that God made it all, that He judged it once, and will judge it again. 2 Peter 3 addresses this nicely. Love in Christ, Mark |

49 | Please clarify............?? | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188063
Hi Searcher, I can't seem to find my post that I said "restrainers" plural. Can you point me to it? I suspect I made a typo. I know the restrainer is singular. Thanks! Also, for what it's worth, the literal translation, to my understanding, is: he holding down now until out of the middle it becomes. Love in Christ, Mark |

50 | Who is the restrainer? | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188062
Hi InGodTrust, This reminds me of Genesis, where God says "My Spirit shall not always strive with man," as He decreed their coming judgment. I think the same as you do, that God has been restraining evil throughout the history of fallen man. Even as God exiled man from the garden, He set His angel to block the way, lest a worse thing happen. But where I have to stop is before saying that God does this through the church. I am not saying that this isn't true, just that I don't see where that is actually taught in Scripture. I would freely change my view if I actually saw the Bible teach that the Holy Spirit restrains "the mystery of iniquity" through the church. Are you aware of such passages that you can show me? Love in Christ, Mark |

51 | Who is he who restrains?ebrain. | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188024
Hi Cheri, and all! Just to be clear, I don't personally agree that the church necessarily plays a part in this particular restraining of the mystery of iniquity. I don't say that the church can't be partaking in that role, just that I don't see that supported by the Scriptures. This is the only place that I am aware of that speaks of this restraining, and the restrainer is spoken of using masculine and neuter genders, but not the feminine gender of the church. It could be that the restrainer ceases restraining before or after the church is removed, or the restrainer could cease restraining as the church is being removed. I just want to say that the Scriptures do not explicitly make the connection between the restraining of the mystery of iniquity and the presence of the church. At least as far as I can tell. Love in Christ, Mark |

52 | Who is he who restrains?ebrain. | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188019
Hi Lionheart, I'm not aware of anywhere that the Bible explicitly says who this restrainer is. I have heard that the restrainer is spoken of in both masculine and neuter genders, and for that reason can only be the Holy Spirit, but I don't know enough about the Greek to know if that's true. But all the verses I can find that make specific statements of someone holding back evil, it always seems to be God doing it. Can you think of any exceptions to that? Love in Christ, Mark |

53 | Who is he who restrains?ebrain. | 2 Thess 2:7 | mark d seyler | 188013
'Daniel wrote of Michael, the restrainer, this way: "And at that time shall Michael stand up [literally, stand still or desist from helping Israel], the great prince which standeth [whose normal and continued ministry had been to help Israel]" (Dan. 12:1); and Paul wrote of the restrainer this way: "He who now letteth [restrains] will let [continue his normal restraining ministry], until he be taken out of the way [ceases his normal ministry of restraining]" (2 Th. 2:7). The parallel between the two is conspicuous. Posted simply to present the alternate view --- Michael is nowhere called the restrainer in Scripture. --- This interpretation subtly re-frames Michael's "job", if you will. While we are told specifically that he is the protector of Israel, this interpretation has him now as "the one who restrains the mystery of iniquity." But that is nowhere attested to in Scripture. That Michael is the one that is holding back the power of evil in the world is not found in the Bible. Micheal is the protector of Israel. 2 Thess. does not tell us that Michael stops protecting Israel. Daniel, and the other prophets, tell us that in the time of the end, there will come against Israel a great persecution, and that Michael, the one who stands for Israel, will stand. Does this mean that the protector of Israel is going leave his post? I read about how Israel will flee to the wilderness, to be cared for there. I wonder where Micheal will be, and what he will be doing? Love in Christ, Mark |

54 | Do you have scriptures to affirm? | 2 Thess 2:3 | mark d seyler | 188012
This didn't exactly answer the question I asked you. Do you think the rapture, defined as the resurrection of the "dead in Christ", and the translation of the living "in Chirst", and the abrupt catching into the sky of all of these, do you think this occurs before the wrath of God is revealed from heaven upon the earth? Hi M.Royal, I'd like to go back to this for a moment. If you wish to continue the discussion, we need to progress in an orderly manner. Where does the Bible teach that the events described at the sounding of the 7th trumpet include the second coming of Jesus? Or the rapture of the church? Would please be so kind as to point that out for me? Revelation 11:15-19 (15) And the seventh angel trumpeted. And there were great voices in Heaven, saying, The kingdoms of the world became our Lord's, even of His Christ; and He shall reign to the ages of the ages. (16) And the twenty four elders sitting before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, (17) saying, We thank You, Lord God Almighty, the One who is, and who was, and who is coming, because You took Your great power and reigned. (18) And the nations were full of wrath; and Your wrath came, and the time of the judging of the dead, and to give the reward to Your slaves, to the prophets, and to the saints, and to the ones fearing Your name, to the small and to the great, and to destroy those destroying the earth. (19) And the temple of God in Heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple, and lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and a great hail occurred. 56 | Are Rapture and Apostasy the same thing? | 2 Thess 2:3 | mark d seyler | 188010
Hi M.Royal, I would suggest that you include all occurances of aphistemi, the verb, and it's derivative, apostasia, the noun, to see what the full scope of this word's usage. There are 15 times they are used in the New Testament. This is definitely departure, we simply need the context to tell us departure from what. Love in Christ, Mark |

59 | Can you lose your salvation? | Eph 1:13 | mark d seyler | 187876
Hi WOS, I don’t think such a debate would serve to edify the body within this forum. When the sealing happens, in my opinion, does not dictate the nature of that sealing. We appear to disagree over the course this discussion has taken, but that need not occupy undue forum space. Concerning your notion of eternal, I would suggest we consider the ramifications. If expressing something that happens in an “eternal” way means that it “describes all ages”, are you suggesting that since we have received eternal life, that we will have lived from eternity past? I would think that only God does that. You asked, “According to 2 Timothy 1:9, who saved us and when?” 2Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, God has saved us. But this verse does not tell us when we are saved. “Before the world began” as a clause relates to God’s grace being given. But you and I, we have different presuppositions, I believe. You believe, unless I am mistaken, that God’s grace is only given to the redeemed. I believe that God’s grace is given to all, but refused by many. We won’t settle our differences with this passage, unfortunately. Rather than get into this debate at this time, I’ll just close with this: Romans 8:28-29 (28) And we have known that to those loving God all things do work together for good, to those who are called according to purpose; (29) because whom He did foreknow, He also did fore-appoint, conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be first-born among many brethren; 2Co 5:17 so that if any one is in Christ -- he is a new creature; Eph 1:3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who did bless us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, Love in Christ, Mark |
