21 | Dino eat meat or plants preflood? | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 189551
There are a number of animals that have large sharp teeth that are plant eaters. Fruit bats have teeth that look like they would tear flesh, but they eat fruit. There is a Chinese deer: "As has already been mentioned males do not grow antlers. However, like most of the Muntjac species of deer bucks have well developed canine teeth. The bucks use these when fighting with other bucks, or when defending themselves. They are especially sharp, and capable of causing severe injuries on opponents. When fighting the tusks are used for stabbing or slashing. In old animals the tusks can be broken or show visible signs of wear and tear. The canine teeth can grow to 6 cm in length and protrude down from the upper lip. They are often described as being fangs or tusks. Females also grow tusks, but they are much smaller than in the males, mostly being only 1 to 2 cm in length. The tusks of the females are rarely visible. The tusks have a special muscular hinge, which means they can move slightly to make grazing easier." (from www.worlddeer.org) There are many examples of this. Unless we are able to observe an animal's eating habits, we don't actually know what they are. Love in Christ, Mark |

22 | Tithe vs Debts | 2 Corinthians | mark d seyler | 189471
Hi MLB, I would offer this suggestion. Praying for guidance, read 2 Corinthians 8-9 carefully, slowly, and several times over the next couple of weeks. Meditate on these chapters. Take small sections, and think about them, prayfully, considering what each verse is saying, what it actually means about giving. There is our part, there is God's part, there is how we are to go about it. Look at other passages on giving, such as the Sermon on the Mount. "Stealing from God" in not tithing comes from a failing to obey the Old Covenant, and is not found within the New Covenant. God will lead you individually, according to His special plan for you. All you have is His, you gave it to Him when you gave Him your life. Now its up to Him to decide whether to pay the banker more quickly, or more slowly, whether to give all you have to others, or to give a tithe to your church. Commit within yourself to serve Him however He leads you, and to trust Him for your needs. I have seen God use a variety of means to straighten out my financial house, and He continues to use this area of my life to mold me, conform me to the image of Christ. Seek His leading for you, and He will lead you where you need to go. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

23 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | mark d seyler | 188476
Hi Hoppy, While I realize that Hebrew thought often used couplets to express things, even so. . . If we are saying that the kingdom of heaven equals one of the elements of the parables, and that it is bought and sold, we have a textual difficulty, that is, if we stay with the actual literal relationships expressed in the specific clauses that are grammatically joined. In one parable, the kingdom is treasure, the item purchased, while in the other parable, the kingdom is the merchant, the purchaser himself. But if we equate the "kingdom of heaven" with the thought that is being expressed, that there is someone who gives all they have to purchase something which they treasure, then they are both compatible with each other. And when I look at it this way, this aligns with the Scriptures that say we are God's purchased possession. And, for all that, it still forms a couplet. This is my opinion, anyway. Hi Cheri, I use the e-sword resources the most, but for a good and inexpensive interlinear NT, I like George Ricker Berry ,ISBN 0805413723. It include the textual variants from several textual editors, as well as a consise lexicon. It also contains the King James in the margin, and is available for around 25 dollars in paperback. 27 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | mark d seyler | 188408
Hi John, Its sure interesting the symbols Jesus selected. A pearl is a jewel formed inside that which is unclean. It's formed by accretion when something from outside comes in. The harvesting of the pearl destroys that which it was formed in. And it's value is not seen by looking at what's outside, only by knowing what's inside. Its interesting that all of these same things can be said of the church. I also find it interesting that some would say that Jesus is indicating that people can buy His kingdom! Act 20:28 . . . the assembly of God which He purchased through His own blood. Don't you just love the harmony? Love in Christ, Mark |

28 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | mark d seyler | 188281
Hi CDBJ, The only point of comparison I referrenced in my post was the degree of judgment. I didn't cite any examples of fashion, culture, or occupation. The point I was making was specifically confined to the fact that the trumpet judgments, presented by Scripture as plagues, and wrath, were not directly comparable to the flood, or to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Those judgments were specifically to destroy the unrighteous entirely. The trumpet judgments are not. The trumpet judgments each have a specific limitation. This is a significant difference, and it is one that I am not comfortable overlooking. Love in Christ, Mark |

29 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | mark d seyler | 188168
Hi Kalos, Just to present an alternative view . . . One of the foundational premises here is that the wrath of God is equal to the complete destruction of the sinners, as happened during the flood, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. This is given as a foundation to the assertion that these plagues will occur following the second coming of Jesus. The wrath, revealed from Heaven upon the ungodly during the time described in the Revelation, includes the "trumpet judgments", and the "bowl judgments". But do these judgments effect the complete destruction of the sinners out of the land? They do not. Therefore, they are not equal to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, nor are they equal to the flood. Therefore, this argument does not show a requirment that the trumpet and bowl judgments only following Jesus' second coming. There are many Scriptures that show God's wrath is revealed before Jesus' second coming. One more thing, concerning this idea that the persecution will somehow be "shortened from" 3.5 years cannot be correct. If it were, this would render Daniel 7:25 a false prophecy: ". . . and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and a dividing of a time (3.5 years)" That cannot be. The persection of these saints, beginning after the Abomination of Desolation, WILL last the full 3.5 years. It is, therefore, not "cut short" FROM 3.5 years, it is "cut short" TO 3.5 years. I do, however, heartily agree that God will remove His redeemed before He reveals His wrath, but even then, He will not turn away any who come to Him. They will, unfortunately, have missed the opportunity to escape these things that are coming upon the earth. Love in Christ, Mark |

31 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | mark d seyler | 188165
HI cheri, One thing to keep in mind, there are two gatherings when Jesus comes in power and glory. The first is Matt 24:31, as He sends His angels to gather the elect. The other is Matt 25:32, as all the nations are gathered before Him, and are separated into the righteous and the unrighteous. That there are righteous amongst the nations that are gathered in 25:32 means that the elect of 24:31 are not all the redeemed. That there are elect gathered in 24;31 means that the same is true of 25:32. The "sheep" of Matt 25 are judged according to thier treatment of "Jesus' brothers". This must be a separate group, otherwise it is circular. The only other separate group are these elect. The elect are not amoung the nations, which are gathered separately. Some very solid conclusions can be drawn from these things. Neither of these gatherings can be the rapture. It is a logical impossibility. Paul said, "we how are alive and remain". All the living redeemed will be caught up. The elect are the Jews. The non-Jews are gathered as the "nations", and judged according to their treatment of "Jesus' brothers". The "catching up" of the redeemed must occur BEFORE these two gatherings, otherwise, those redeemed would be a part of one of these two gatherings. Love in Christ, Mark PS I haven't forgotten about your request, I need the time to put something together. . . |

HI CDBJ, To me, that they are called the servants of God, "douloi", means that these are believers. They are called that before they are sealed, so belief comes first, then sealing. IMHO Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Hoppy, I have to sometimes be quick too! :-) I think that the rapture and the Day of the LORD are different things, and that Paul and Peter are talking about the Day of the LORD, when God will judge the wicked, and establish His rule upon the earth. Love in Christ, Mark |

38 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | mark d seyler | 188129
Hi Hoppy, How then do you relate this to those passages that go into greater detail on this, such as: 1Th 5:1 And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you, 1Th 5:2 for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come, 1Th 5:3 for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail doth her who is with child, and they shall not escape; 1Th 5:4 and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief; 1Th 5:5 all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness, ? I answered based on the totality of Scriptures that speak towards this. If you have a different opinion, that's fine. Love in Christ, Mark |

40 | How does it relate to everyday life? | Matt 5:7 | mark d seyler | 188107
Hi sam84, I've noticed that everyday someone does something that I don't like. All the time people are doing things that aren't right, and that effect me adversely. I could stand up for my rights, demand punishment, and apologies, or just fume and resent them. God teaches us that He, to a certain extent, uses ourselves as the yardstick we'll be measured against. "Judge not, or you'll be judged." "With the measure you use . . ." Or this verse. Also, to the extent that we've become like our God, we will act like Him. So here's my application. I want God to be merciful to me, so I am merciful to others. Anytime someone does something to me, I think of all those things I've done that God could, and should, judge me for, and I show mercy to that other person. And I realize that if I'm truly His child, I'll be like He is, and act like He acts. And when I am merciful to someone else, deciding that I'm not going to be angry, or punishing, or resentful, but rather that I will want them to receive less then what they are due for their wrong behavior, and instead to help them, this tells me that I'm becoming more like my Father, and that I too will receive mercy from Him, and that's a good place to be! I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
