41 | Did the upper room belong to Joseph of A | Bible general Archive 1 | Songbirdca | 86279
I have heard that the Upper Room where Jesus and his disciples had the Passover, was in the home of Joseph of Arimathea. Is there any truth to that? It's not stated in the bible, so I'm wondering where this got started. Does anyone know?

44 | I'm confused by the dates...help? | NT general Archive 1 | Songbirdca | 46924
Steve, I went to the site and I'm a bit confused at the dates. By the looks of it the disciples would have been 100 yrs. or more before they died. Especially Peter if he wrote 2 Peter in 125AD. Am I reading this wrong? Songbirdca aka Laura |

46 | Was Clopas Cleopas? | NT general Archive 1 | Songbirdca | 49929
While reading about the two on the Road to Emmaus I noticed that one of the men mentioned was named Clopas. I know that Cleopas was the husband of the 'other Mary'. (John 19: 24-26) I wonder if this Clopas here is just a variant on the spelling of his name. Also there is a Simon mentioned I don't believe that it is Simon Peter, so I'm wondering if it might be Simon the Leper. Any thoughts on that? Songbirdca aka Laura |

47 | Why the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem | Gen 1:1 | Songbirdca | 81180
I think to fulfill prophecy. You will notice in Matt. 21:1-11 that Jesus sends the disciples ahead to get a donkey and her colt. He knew where they were. He sent the disciples to the next village to find them. When they brought them to Jesus they placed their own cloaks on them and Jesus sat on them. But what happens next? As he approaches Jerusalem the people throw their own cloaks on the ground for Jesus to walk on. They praise him up and down! Jesus knew he had to come into Jerusalem on a Donkey, that would fulfill prophecy, but there was no way he could make the people see him as a King and adore him like they did. They praised and adored him all on their own. So maybe, it was a little bit of both, to fulfill the prophecy and because he needed to know if the people would recognize him.

49 | So she should only be eating fruit? | Gen 2:16 | Songbirdca | 152303
Clearly, God intended for mankind to be vegetarian as you can see from the following verses and note that it's not just fruit, but "every seed-bearing plant". Genesis 2:9 says this: And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then in Genesis 2:16,17 it says: And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; (17) but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." In Genesis 1:29 this is what God intended for Adam and Eve to eat. 29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. Even the animals were to be vegetarian as noted in this verse from Genesis 1:30. "And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so. |

50 | What was the true meaning of livestock? | Gen 2:16 | Songbirdca | 152304
The best translation for the word livestock is the King James Version. The word livestock is actually cattle. They didn't use them for anything except to care for them. Remember, God originally made the animals as Adam's companions. Then later on He created Eve. Genesis 2:18-22 18 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." 19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. 21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. |

51 | So she should only be eating fruit? | Gen 2:16 | Songbirdca | 152382
Terrib, I agree with you. But how can a perfect world (Eden) have included meat-eating? It seems wrong somehow.

54 | What about those who buried Jesus? | Num 19:11 | Songbirdca | 49846

55 | How old was Jesus when the Magi brought | Num 24:17 | Songbirdca | 46153
How old was Jesus when the Magi presented gifts to him? I'm finding conflicting stories in Matthew 2 and Luke 2 and from my pastor who insists Jesus was two. I'm trying to write a story about this and I'd like to get my facts straight.
56 | How old was Jesus when the Magi brought | Num 24:17 | Songbirdca | 46185
That makes sense, however in Luke ch. 2 we read that Mary had to wait until her time of purification was complete before they could go up to Jerusalem to present Jesus in the temple. According to Lev. 12:4 that time was 33 days. Luke 2:22 says they went to Jerusalem when her time of purification had been completed. Which would make Jesus 1 month old. Luke 2:39 goes on to say, "When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth." Not to Bethlehem but Nazareth, which is why I'm finding the age thing very confusing.
57 | beware of fortune tellers? | Deut 18:9 | Songbirdca | 125535
The Bible says, that the Lord finds divination (fortune telling) or sorcery, interpreting omens, engaging in witchcraft, or casting spells, or anyone who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead detestable. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD

60 | Did the Magi visit Bethlehem or Nazareth | Matt 2:1 | Songbirdca | 72911
When the magi visited Jesus, was he in Bethlehem or Nazareth? Luke and Matthew seem to have conflicting accounts. Luke has Jesus returning with his parents to Nazareth after they had him consecrated to the Lord in the Temple in Jerusalem. Matthew has him in Bethlehem for 2 years. Why would Mary and Joseph stay in Bethlehem for two years when their home was in Nazareth? It doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone clarify? |
