61 | What about the star? | Matt 2:1 | Songbirdca | 72952
Thank you for your response. I completely forgot about the disgrace issue with Mary, but I would like to point out some things, that are still bothering me. Nazareth is about 100 kilometers away from Bethlehem (2 hrs by car, about a week to a week and a half by foot). Bethlehem is about 5 to 8 km outside of Jerusalem. With that in mind - think of the star (it's proximity to Jerusalem and Bethlehem and surrounding vicinity) it could be seen apparently for miles. Being so close to Jerusalem and Herod's henchmen, wouldn't Herod or someone in the vicinity have seen it before the Magi arrived? Assuming of course they had arrived almost 2 years later. Also, since it was so visible, would it have been wise for Mary and Joseph to have stayed in Bethlehem for close to 2 years? (Just a thought). Also, Nazareth was North of Jerusalem (Bethlehem south of Jerusalem) why would Mary and Joseph complete their duties at the temple then turn back to Bethlehem when their home was in the opposite direction? There is the disgrace issue and of course the census probably did take some time. But two years? One more thing, we know there was a two year time frame because of Herod's decision to kill all male children 2 yrs old and younger. If it had been a 40 day time frame he would have killed just newborn males. As you can see I have many questions in regards to this. |

62 | Did the Magi visit Bethlehem or Nazareth | Matt 2:9 | Songbirdca | 72907
When the magi visited Jesus, was he in Bethlehem or Nazareth? Luke and Matthew seem to have conflicting accounts. Luke has Jesus returning with his parents to Nazareth after they had him consecrated to the Lord in the Temple in Jerusalem. Matthew has him in Bethlehem for 2 years. Why would Mary and Joseph stay in Bethlehem for two years when their home was in Nazareth? It doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone clarify? |

64 | Is it possible Mary and Joseph took refu | Matt 2:13 | Songbirdca | 74387
I thought so. I was at a several Eygptian travel sites and they have the "supposed" travel route that Mary and Joseph took. I was wondering how they got it. I wonder if Mary and Joseph took refuge in the city of Petra? I'm writing a book about them and I wish I could get a sense of where in Eygpt they fled to. |

67 | How old was Jesus when the Magi brought | Matt 2:16 | Songbirdca | 46155
How old was Jesus when the Magi presented gifts to him? I'm finding conflicting stories in Matthew 2 and Luke 2 and from my pastor who insists Jesus was two. I'm trying to write a story about this and I'd like to get my facts straight.

69 | How old was Jesus when the Magi brought | Matt 2:16 | Songbirdca | 46186
Thanks so much Giam! I have never seen that before. Isn't it wonderful when God opens your eyes to new things in Scripture! Herod sent them to Bethlehem, because his advisors told him that is where the baby was, but the Wise men "wisely" followed the star until it reached Nazareth! Awesome! I have always assumed they went to Bethlehem. This makes more sense. Thanks Your sister in Christ Songbird |

70 | How old was Jesus when the Magi brought | Matt 2:16 | Songbirdca | 46208
Just a follow-up to that Giam I've been looking at a map of the Holy Land. King Herod was King of Judea his decree that went out to kill all children two years and under was for Bethlehem and it's vicinity. Nazareth was in Galilee, which as far as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong)was not under his jurisdiction. So if Mary and Joseph were in Nazareth why would they have to flee? Take a look at a map and you'll see what I mean. Thanks Songbird |

71 | what is God's way of doing n being right | Matt 6:33 | Songbirdca | 125440
Jesus said to Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. And to love our neighbours as ourselves. He said there were no greater commandments then these two. So what is God's way of doing and being right? First of all, by Christ's great example we can see from this verse that He put others before himself. He died for you while you were yet a sinner (Rom. 5:8). Jesus had a servant's heart. We would be wise to follow His example. Put Christ first in your life. Seek His kingdom in all that you do may it be for His glory. Do not seek your own interests but those of God. You will learn how to know God's will and please Him by reading the handbook He left for you. His Holy Word. Read it daily and meditate on it, let it soak into you so that you walk in it. The bible has God's words and truths in it and you find God's will and His ways by reading it. |

72 | Was James the son Alpaheus Jesus brother | Matt 10:3 | Songbirdca | 48004
I'm really confused, was James the son Alphaeus the brother of Jesus? If he was then that means Mary remarried. Anybody got any clues on that one? Songbirdca |

73 | Was James the son Alpaheus Jesus brother | Matt 10:3 | Songbirdca | 49756
You should know that it was common during those times for parents to give the same name to more than one of their children. Also I would be interested in knowing the verse about the tribes not allowing to intermarry. I understood they weren't allowed to marry foreigners but I have never heard about the tribes not being allowed to marry. Songbirdca |

74 | Elisabeth's relation to Mary | Matt 24:35 | Songbirdca | 144974
I'm writing a book and have tried to determine whether or not Elisabeth is Mary's cousin or her aunt. The original greek is "suggenes" meaning of the same kin, akin to, related by blood. Different translations have turned this word in to "relative", "cousin" and "kinswoman". It is crucial to my story that Elisabeth be an Aunt to Mary. My question is this - How upsetting (in everyone's opinion) would this be to the Christian community at large? How important a factor is it in the huge scheme of things? I would greatly appreciate everyone's insight. Thanks. |

80 | Who was at the Last Supper? | Mark 14:16 | Songbirdca | 48936
Is there any reason to believe that more than just the twelve chosen disciples were present at the Last Supper? I point you to Mark 14:12-20. Read it carefully, remembering that a 'disciple' is a follower of Christ. Look at vs. 16 and 17 in particular as well as vs. 20. Why would Jesus say it was one of the Twelve if no one else was there?
