41 | Is it bibical for a church to require? | John 8:7 | ariel levin | 224311
Justme, shalom I read your note but I stand firm that youth need to be treated differntly from adults. It's a proven medical fact that the frontal lob which manages decisions, discerns right and wrong, etc. is not fully developed till after the 21st year in a person. Approaching our youth in the same way you would approach a 35 year old in any given situation just won't work. Being born again or saved or whatever you want to call it does NOT speed up the growth of the brain. I don't particularily disagree with the approach concerning an adult in that state of distress but I don't believe it is what is called for where youths are concerned. |

Yes, I know. That's why I told her to have the friend use the book the Christians don't use. And if he takes her up on the debate, he cannot win; and if he's really wanting the truth, this will be the beginning of his journey. I've gotten 2 mormons now questioning mormonism this way. Two is not alot, but it's a start..... |

These that I have had goings on with have a book that does have prophecy. I'm sorry, I don't know what it's called, I'd always just thought it was the one called Book of Mormon, but I guess it must be something else (it wasn't nearly as many pages as the Christian Bible, it looked to have maybe 300-400 pages). Maybe these were a "sect" of mormonism, not of the main-stream? The parts that got them to thinking was the fact that some prophet (or maybe an angel) called maroni could not be traced outside of this book. At least that's what they told me. I really know very little about mormon belief, but I know the Scriptures well. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

No, this is not still going on. It was several years ago in another state. They were getting toward the end of their mission. I really can't remember what started the whole thing - they lived in the apartment above me. Perhaps I just met them at a time when they were ready to be persuaded? (I know I certainly could not have lived as they did - they stood at their window for over an hour waiting on a phone call to get permission just to come out on the front lawn to have a cook-out and watch fireworks! Talk about contol.) |

Morning Legs, You said, "...my personal blessing has to do with the Lord GIVING me cancer..." Please learn to rephrase this, perhaps, the Lord allowed you to get cancer...God is not in the habit of killing His kids. There are only 3 instances that I can think of right off the top of my head where God actually "gave" or "put" a disease on anyone: When Moses was trying to not go before the Pharaoh (the whole hand that turned leprous), when Miriam spoke against Moses (she was told why she got leprous and was quickly healed), and the insanity of Nebuchadnezzar (and he was told and also healed). A fourth possible time (but I'm not sure) might be the sickness of Hezekiah. But I am sure that our God is not in the business of putting dreadful diseases on His own. We live in a world corrupted by sin and though we may not be of this world we are still subject to the corruption that is in it, we get sick. When we do get sick God can use that to His glory, but I will never be convinced that He was the author of that sickness on someone....Sorry. |

I sse your point Ed, and you're right He did say that. I tend to think though it's more a matter of withdrawing the supernatural protection from what's already in the world than Him actually singling out people to make sick. If we take that stance, that God puts cancer, etc. on people who do not keep His commandments then we should be seeing just kazillions dropping dead daily. And if you want to keep it isolated to only the Jews, then why are they not dying out? (It's lnot like He doesn't have any help here. Whole countries would love to see them gone!) The reports are that there are more secular Jews in Israel than observant Jews. And probably more secular Jews in the States than observant Jews. Why are the secular still around? Unless it's just the "protection" that has been withdrawn and they are now subject to the world's woes? |

This will be my last entry in this thread. sa 103:1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Psa 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Psa 103:4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Psa 103:5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psa 103:6 The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. Psa 103:7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. Psa 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. Psa 103:9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. Psa 103:10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Psa 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Psa 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Psa 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. |

49 | The Spirit and the Seventy | John 16:7 | ariel levin | 223325
Thank you, Mr. Moran, for your time and effort. It's much appreciated. Barnes doesn't fully satisfy, but it is a valid view to consider with some interesting points that I hadn't "seen" before. (I'm under the impression due to the circumstances that Moses and the 70 each received the "full measure" of the Spirit and that it lasted, remained within them, until each individual died.) |

50 | What are ghosts? | Rom 12:2 | ariel levin | 224383
Shalom findrichard, I'm not sure if these would fall under the catagory of "ghosts" (and certainly not the TV brand), but what of Samuel's appearance to Saul under the medium? the appearance of Moses on the Mt. of Transfiguration (I don't include Messiah, as he hadn't been crucified yet, nor Elijah as we're told he was taken alive), but Moses died and was buried by Abba himself? You can email me (in my profile) with your thoughts if you wish - I say this cause this particular discussion, though interesting, could only be speculation as there are only these few passages to work with..... :o) |

51 | Worst things come upon you! | 1 Cor 6:18 | ariel levin | 223219
Grace, Could you possibly be thinking about Matthewi12:43-45? While these verses are not speaking about marriage, they could apply, I guess? Mat 12:43 "When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it travels through dry country seeking rest and does not find it. Mat 12:44 Then it says to itself, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house standing empty, swept clean and put in order. Mat 12:45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come and live there — so that in the end, the person is worse off than he was before. This is how it will be for this wicked generation." |

Shalom Justme, I didn't answer because Pastor Beja did such a fine job. And most of the time I just "peep" here and answer or add my 2cents in areas that are not controversial as I'm a Torah-observant Messianic Jewish believer. :o) |

Shalom justme, There are plenty of women's christian forums out there, some good, some not so good. Like any forum, you just have to be cautious and selective. Three that I know of that are pretty good: Hebrew4Christians, Heart of Wisdom, and there's a real-time chat room for christian women (along with other christian interests) under "sensitive christian" on the inSpeak chat downloadable software. (As an aside, PalTalk also has rooms for different christian interests but the software is horrible, it puts some bad adware on your computer that is hard to get rid of.) |

56 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | ariel levin | 223280
Shalom Azure, You known one possible reason for "unanswered" or "misanswered" prayer that biblenovice asked about is one that I'm sure most believers are guilty of: not waiting on the Lord. Like Abraham, we figure He needs a little human intervention or we jump on the first thing that comes along that fits into our budget assigning that as God's best. When we think we are in desperate need we forget how many times God's prophets urged His people to wait, to be still and to see God's mighty hand at work in our lives. Someone once shared this little gem with me: When God is preparing a work in our lives we can faintly see Him before us. But when He is actively doing a work in us (or for us) it's like He is out of sight, absent, we can only see clearly what He was doing after we have come through the thing. So when He seems the farthest away, that's actually the time that He is the closest. This is the time to be still and wait on the Lord. My 2cents to the mix |

Dear Beja, You are absolutely correct in that the promises are to all who are Avraham's seed. The arm of invitation went out to the goyim long before Messiah walked this earth - it just wasn't heard so well. But, I must agree with setonahill regarding Hos. 1:9. I read the Hebrew scriptures in Hebrew (slowly, like a third or fourth grader) but I know the words am, ammi, and goyim. Whenever the peoples being mentioned are Israel, the word used is Am (or ammi), for other nations, it's goyim (or goy). If the passage was discussing gentiles it should read lo ani goyim (mot my people) but it uses the ammi for my people (Israel). Could gentiles be included? Yes, and no, as they had always been invited but after conversion, they were no longer gentiles. If you know of any place in the Hebrew scriptures where the wording is ammi or am for gentiles, I'm open to correction....:o) |

59 | Do they who reign live 900 years? | Rev 20:1 | ariel levin | 224872
Shalom sonofmom, When I once questioned the need for the healing in the trees I was given a similar answer. I was told that the trees were there for those who were alive after the tribulation, but that their years would revert back to the 120 years God mandated toward the flood area. That seemed to make sense, since Rev. does speak of believers surviving to enter into the millenial era, while those who returned with Messiah would not need the healing as they would already be glorified. Does that sound like what the discussion was about? |

Doc, It was told me in a bible study as the OP got his information from. I didn't make any claims of the information being from the Bible proper or from a book, or that it was correct, just that a leader of a bible study shared this possibility. Since this was 20 some odd years ago I have no inclination to name all of the teachers I had back then. You wouldn't know them, they were local. |
