42 | Actions to preach the kingdom of God | Luke 9:2 | ariel levin | 224445
Shalom 00123, We actually cannot answer that because we are not told in scripture. But to assume that they did what the Master did is not presumptuouse. They also probably followed the examples of previous Torah-teachers. They would go to the gates of the city and speak with the elders of the people there in hopes of finding lodging and a willingness to listen and learn. They would then go into the local synagogue or home where Moses would be taught on each Sabbath, and there they would preach the good news. If the elders would not receive them and their preaching they were to move on. This just about covers their physical actions. What they preached should not have been too much different than what the Master himself preached - Jer. 31:31 and all the places in the Scriptures where Messiah can be seen. Just my 2cents worth :o) |

43 | What are ghosts? | Rom 12:2 | ariel levin | 224383
Shalom findrichard, I'm not sure if these would fall under the catagory of "ghosts" (and certainly not the TV brand), but what of Samuel's appearance to Saul under the medium? the appearance of Moses on the Mt. of Transfiguration (I don't include Messiah, as he hadn't been crucified yet, nor Elijah as we're told he was taken alive), but Moses died and was buried by Abba himself? You can email me (in my profile) with your thoughts if you wish - I say this cause this particular discussion, though interesting, could only be speculation as there are only these few passages to work with..... :o) |

45 | Is it bibical for a church to require? | John 8:7 | ariel levin | 224311
Justme, shalom I read your note but I stand firm that youth need to be treated differntly from adults. It's a proven medical fact that the frontal lob which manages decisions, discerns right and wrong, etc. is not fully developed till after the 21st year in a person. Approaching our youth in the same way you would approach a 35 year old in any given situation just won't work. Being born again or saved or whatever you want to call it does NOT speed up the growth of the brain. I don't particularily disagree with the approach concerning an adult in that state of distress but I don't believe it is what is called for where youths are concerned. |

46 | Is it bibical for a church to require? | John 8:7 | ariel levin | 224295
Shalom dka, This place sounds like it needs to be reminded of John 8:10 (as the other poster pointed out). God is in the business of forgiveness. If this girl has rectified the situation that got her in this predicament (i.e., she is no longer with the boy and will either raise the child on her own or adopt it out, or they are planning marriage), she has nothing to apologize to the "church" for. This situation is between her heavenly Father, her earthly parents and the baby's father (and his parents if underage) - once again, not the church's!!! It appears from your post that we are talking about some young girls (in their teens), I believe the passages in 1 Cor. sounds more like they are dealing with adults - these two catagories of people need to be dealt with differently in just about all aspects of life. Just my 2cents worth :o) |

Searcher I could have sworn I was looking at chp 33 of Dt. Need to get new glasses I guess!! And thanks for clarifying the verses in Rev. I thought I remembered there being a reference to the Song of Moses in Rev. but I just couldn't find it as I quickly read the places speaking about singing to the Lamb. |

Shalom justme, There are plenty of women's christian forums out there, some good, some not so good. Like any forum, you just have to be cautious and selective. Three that I know of that are pretty good: Hebrew4Christians, Heart of Wisdom, and there's a real-time chat room for christian women (along with other christian interests) under "sensitive christian" on the inSpeak chat downloadable software. (As an aside, PalTalk also has rooms for different christian interests but the software is horrible, it puts some bad adware on your computer that is hard to get rid of.) |

Shalom Justme, I didn't answer because Pastor Beja did such a fine job. And most of the time I just "peep" here and answer or add my 2cents in areas that are not controversial as I'm a Torah-observant Messianic Jewish believer. :o) |

53 | Crusifixtion a sacrafice? John 3:16 | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 223647
G Preston Me spinning? I don't think so. The only thing I spin is a dreidle in hopes that it lands on gimmel!! :o) Return to the beginnings in Leviticus and study about the sacrifices (as they were a foreshadow of that which was to come) and you'll see that the sins of the worshipper were symbolically transferred to the animal by the laying on of hands. (Now we understand that at this point the whole thing had to be symbolism as man had no way to literally transfer his sins to anyone or anything.) But now God is here in the flesh, the Sacrifice can now be done as it was symbolized and be done once for all. For the sacrifice the Lord made for us to be viable He had to take on the sins of the world (and I don't think He had them all neatly bundled up in a grocery bag on the ground). No symbolism here, He took our sins into death with Him, broke the power of sin and rose triumphant. |

Shalom G Preston You said, "I do have trouble with your concluding theory however. To suggest He experienced ...'spiritual'... death conflicts with the meaning of the second death because of sinfulness. He never sinned" I thought that that was what the sacrifice was all about. The Savior never sinned but He took our sins upon Himself and paid the FULL price, which includes the second death, the death of separation from the Father. The fact that He did not remain spiritually separated from the Father is also what procures our FULL, complete, eternal redemption. It is this second death, this eternal separation from God that we are saved from. This is our hope and confidence, not a trouble free life, not escape from physical death, but an eternity in the presence of our God. (Scripture to this effect have already been posted within this thread.) |

55 | Did John really baptise Jesus?? | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 223517
Doc, Somewhere along the way we lost communication. I never said that mikveh and baptism are the same. I agree that baptism is symbolic of seeing ourselves in Messiah's death, burial, resurrection, and for that reason I believe that the "baptism" John was doing was a mikveh associated with teshuvah - changing one's direction, way of living, thinking. We're talking about a Jew doing a Jewish ritual to/with Jews. How could he have baptised into something that hadn't happened yet? I simply stated that the mikveh wasn't JUST for repentance of sins. It could have been done for Messiah as He was leaving one lifestyle behind (that of son, brother and carpenter) for another (His public ministry), Just because He was among a group of people who were turning back to God doens't mean that that has to be the reason He was there. |

56 | Did John really baptise Jesus?? | Bible general Archive 4 | ariel levin | 223514
Shalom Doc, Circumcision was an external sign on the flesh only and also done without the person's desire for it to be done. For that reason, you should not compare it with baptism, which is done at a person's request. Mikveh was indeed (and still is) performed by a person when they go through teshuvah. That is what John was calling Israel to do, to turn away from their own ways and come back to faith in the God of Israel. Here I'm a little shakey but it seems to me that John could not have been baptising in the Name prior to Messiah coming to him because until that time the "anointing" for His ministry had not yet come on Him permanently, so the "name" would not have had any power, nor had he purged mankind of sins, died and risen again and ascended to the Father. (Where I'm shakey is I'm not sure the people were being baptised in the name at all while He was still here on earth, cos like you said, it's symbolic of becoming One with Him in His death and resurrection?) |

Shalom Beja, Thank you. You said it much better than I could possibly have done. The only response that came to my mind was that the whole purpose in the virgin conception and birth was to bypass the "seed of man" as the sin inclination came by way of the man Adam. Therefore Messiah was not born of man and had no sin in Him. |

Good morning Wejlly, Azure told you correctly - Don't even think about such things. If you don't have a "home" fellowship, get on the phone. Most Baptist and Methodist churchs have buses available for those who have no transportation. If you are home bound due to a physical challenge, then there is a wonderful "real time" chat program that you can download. (I use it and I can promise you that it is safe for your computer, no spyware, adware, malware, etc.) The lind for this is: http://www.inspeak.com/ This program allows not only real-time chat by using the keyboard but also using a microphone. You will find bunches of new friends to keep company with right from your living room (which is far better than being alone if you can't get out of your home easily). In these rooms you not only can communicate with other believers, you also can get lots of good music and teachings (some pre-recorded, some live-feeds). (I hope I haven't broken any rules here by posting this link, as there are several Christian rooms available on this chat program and the program is freeware. I don't personally go into the Christian rooms, but I can attest to the fact that the Messianic Jewish rooms are scripturally sound.) |

59 | The Spirit and the Seventy | John 16:7 | ariel levin | 223325
Thank you, Mr. Moran, for your time and effort. It's much appreciated. Barnes doesn't fully satisfy, but it is a valid view to consider with some interesting points that I hadn't "seen" before. (I'm under the impression due to the circumstances that Moses and the 70 each received the "full measure" of the Spirit and that it lasted, remained within them, until each individual died.) |

60 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | ariel levin | 223280
Shalom Azure, You known one possible reason for "unanswered" or "misanswered" prayer that biblenovice asked about is one that I'm sure most believers are guilty of: not waiting on the Lord. Like Abraham, we figure He needs a little human intervention or we jump on the first thing that comes along that fits into our budget assigning that as God's best. When we think we are in desperate need we forget how many times God's prophets urged His people to wait, to be still and to see God's mighty hand at work in our lives. Someone once shared this little gem with me: When God is preparing a work in our lives we can faintly see Him before us. But when He is actively doing a work in us (or for us) it's like He is out of sight, absent, we can only see clearly what He was doing after we have come through the thing. So when He seems the farthest away, that's actually the time that He is the closest. This is the time to be still and wait on the Lord. My 2cents to the mix |
