61 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Matt 5:17 | ariel levin | 223226
Good day Lightedsteps, I was using your own choice of terms "...but the engrafted word, the perfect law of liberty..." when I asked what "word". Since at the time of the apostolic writings there was no New Testament, exactly what commands were being spoken of for believers to obey if not the commands found in the books of Moses? In Ex. 21 (just a continuation of chapter 20) God calls what He spoke in ch 20 mishpatim and tzedaka - judgements and righteousness - whoever first choose to label them "law(s)" I don't know, but to fulfill what you requested: Deut 6:6 (NASB) These words which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart... |

Lightedsteps You said, "why then try to keep the law that Christ has already kept for us" IMO, that is about as silly as trying to convince someone that because my parents paid their taxes perfectly each year of their working lives, I don't have to pay them. If the passages being discussed are no longer relevant, are void and null, then what "commands" and what "word" is being spoken of since the NT had not yet been preserved in one book? And what do we do with Mat. 5:17-19? Mind you, we don't "keep the Law" to be saved, we keep the Law because we ARE saved. It was not given to an unredeemed people. It was given to a people already redeemed to set them apart from the rest of the nations. Are we not grafted into this very olive tree? Or are we supposed to continue to look and act like the "nations" we came out of? I need some clarifiation here. Thank you |

63 | Worst things come upon you! | 1 Cor 6:18 | ariel levin | 223219
Grace, Could you possibly be thinking about Matthewi12:43-45? While these verses are not speaking about marriage, they could apply, I guess? Mat 12:43 "When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it travels through dry country seeking rest and does not find it. Mat 12:44 Then it says to itself, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house standing empty, swept clean and put in order. Mat 12:45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come and live there — so that in the end, the person is worse off than he was before. This is how it will be for this wicked generation." |

As I recall the Gospels, our Master went everywhere that the religious people thought was below them. I think He said something to the effect that He went where He was most needed. Ariel |

Dear Doc, What does it matter if the questioner is JW? Does that preclude him from receiving a correct response? He asked a bonafide question and I'm sure others would be interested in the answer as well. Ariel |
