41 | No promise land for Moses ? | Deut 34:6 | Lionstrong | 152842
Num 20:7 and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, Num 20:8 "Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. Num 20:11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. Num 20:12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them." Deut 3:25 'Let me, I pray, cross over and see the fair land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon.' Deut 3:26 "But the LORD was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me; and the LORD said to me, 'Enough! Speak to Me no more of this matter. Deut 3:27 'Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes to the west and north and south and east, and see it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan. |

42 | Obedience a choice? | Heb 5:8 | Lionstrong | 149536
He Learned from Things He Suffered This is our example of growing in obedience! As a true man Christ was ignorant, that is, he could learn because he didn't know everything. As a true man he could learn to obey God more. Now, for me it is a move from disobeying more and obeying less to disobeying less and obeying more; for Christ it was a matter of going from obedience to more obedience. If the Sinless One had to learn odedience from the things he suffered, how much more us saved sinners!? |

43 | Holy Spirit - receive it or be filled wi | Eph 1:13 | Lionstrong | 149479
John 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. This is not in answer to your question, but you referred to the Holy Spirit as "it." The Holy Spirit is not a thing; he is a person. |

44 | Jesus - called the "last adam"? | 1 Cor 15:45 | Lionstrong | 145414
"Adam... is a type of Him who was to come." (Rom 5:14) In Rom 5:12-21 (please read it) the man Adam and the man Jesus Christ are compared and contrasted. Adam is like Christ. Adam represented the whole human race decending from him. His sin counted for all his posterity. When he sinned it counted for us all. And so "in Adam all die". (1 Cor 15:22) Likewise Jesus represents the whole believing human race. His righteous life counted for all his posterity too. Many were made sinners through Adam; many will be made righteous through Jesus. |

45 | Why did jesus speak in parables? | Matt 13:10 | Lionstrong | 143760
There's no better answer than what the Bible itself gives: Matt 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. Matt 13:12 "For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Matt 13:13 "Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Matt 13:14 "In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, 'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; Matt 13:15 FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.' |

46 | Is believing the same as knowing? | Acts 15:11 | Lionstrong | 143093
My Thoughts on Knowing and Believing What does it mean to know? What does it mean to believe? Is believing the same as knowing? Can one believe without knowing or know without believing? Can one believe and know or is it impossible to both know and believe the same thing? I know that the language of the Bible is not very technical, but ordinary, everyday language (thank God!), and so sometimes “know” and “believe” may be used synonymously depending on the context. I think in the following verses, however, their meanings are distinct. Knowledge is the possession of the truth. Believing is accepting as true a statement that is understood. John 4:42, “…and they were saying to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world."” Here the Samaritans do not say that they don’t believe now that they know for themselves, but that they believe BECAUSE they now know for themselves. 3 John 6:69, "We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God." Here the disciples claim both to know and believe the same thing. 1 Tim 4:3, “…men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.” Here is another example of believing and knowing the same thing. 4 John 10:38, “…but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father." While Jesus not talking about believing and knowing the same thing, it is interesting that he says that believing certain things is necessary for the knowing of other things. John 16:30, "Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God." Gal 2:16 “…nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.” Here the order is turned around. Knowledge of one thing leads to believing something else. John 19:35, “And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.” Here is an example of not having personal knowledge but believing the knowledge of someone else. Conclusion: It is possible to know and believe the same thing. It is possible to believe without personal knowledge, but it is impossible to believe the Gospel without understanding it, because faith comes by understanding the word of God. Rom 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” |

47 | Why exclude people from His Kingdom? | Mark 4:12 | Lionstrong | 143081
Rom 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, Rom 2:6 who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: Rom 2:7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; Rom 2:8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. God condemns sinners for their willful rejection of the truth. Sinners don't condemn themselves. Just as forgiveness in the verse of this thread (Mark 4:14) is the sole prerogative of God, so is condemnation. God is the only one who can pardon to eternal life or justly give the sinner his due. Rev 20:15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. It seems that some would have us believe that the Bible teaches that the sinner walks to the brink of the lake of fire and throws himself in! Yes, God excludes people from the kingdom. They don't put themselves out. They want in, but God puts them out or keeps them out! Matt 8:11 "I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; Matt 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matt 22:12 and he *said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?' And the man was speechless. Matt 22:13 "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' Matt 25:11 "Later the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.' Matt 25:12 "But he answered, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' The point is that God is not passive in the exclusion of those from His kingdom, and the sinner does not condemn himself. Only God can do that. |

48 | Is Drugs mentioned in the Bible? | Gal 5:20 | Lionstrong | 142536
Yes, the verse that I recall is: Matt 27:34 they gave Him wine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink. I don't like Lionheart seeming to make a necessary connection between drugs and witchcraft. Drug is a broad term, and good things can be used for evil purposes. Luke the physician and author of Luke and Acts probably used drugs in his practice. Drugs are not by there very nature evil, but man is! |

Yes, here is some Scripture: Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Heb 13:5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU," |

50 | Slaying of the spirit!what is the need? | 1 Thess 5:6 | Lionstrong | 139532
"Slain" in the Spirit? What do you think the Bible teaches on this subject? And what Bible references are given to support it? Instead of flopping in a mindless spasm on the floor, I see a Spirit-filled person living a sober life. 1 Thess 5:6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. 1 Thess 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 2 Tim 4:5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 1 Pet 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 4:7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 1 Pet 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. |

51 | How do you reconcile election and God's | John 3:17 | Lionstrong | 138941
For the record and not for debate (at least I myself will not debate it, because this is not a debate forum): - All things happen according to the counsel of God's will. - God is good and almighty and does whatever he pleases in heaven and on earth. 2 Pet 3:9 "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." The "all" must be understood in context. The "all" does not mean all people who have ever lived or will live. The context is the patience of the Lord "toward you," that is, toward his people. Jesus came to save "his people" from their sins. (Matt. 1:21) The will of the Father is that none that he has given to the Son be lost. John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day." Salvation is not an easy thing. It comes at the cost of much suffering on the part of the Savior. That's why the Scripture says, "AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?" (1 Pet 4:18) - To conclude, there is no conflict between God's will and election. God's will "toward us" his chosen people is that none perish and all come to repentance. His patient mercy will accomplish this and no one he has given to Christ Jesus will be lost. |

52 | Those who died before Jesus' death | 1 Pet 3:18 | Lionstrong | 138641
People before Christ are not saved by believing in Jesus by name. They did not have to know that their Savoir's name was Jesus, and they did not know. People before Christ are saved the same way as those after Christ. They were saved by grace through faith. Those before Christ looked forward to the Messiah God would send, those after Christ look back to the Messiah God sent. Here is some Scriptures that make these points: Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." Deut 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. Deut 18:16 "This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.' Deut 18:17 "The LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well. Deut 18:18 'I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. Deut 18:19 'It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him John 1:45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Gen 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Rom 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, Gen 22:14 Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it will be provided." John 8:56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad." Job 19:25 "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. Job 19:26 "Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; Ps 23:6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Is 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Is 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. There are many other verses that teach that people before Christ were saved without knowing Jesus' name. They knew God would send a Redeemer, and believed and were saved. |

53 | What is unpardonable sin? | Mark 3:22 | Lionstrong | 138491
I answered the wrong question, and now that I've thought more about your question, I did not answer your question at all. You did not ask, "What is the unpardonable sin?" You asked, "What is unpardonable sin?" Not trying to be funny or to take your question lightly, but unpardonable sin is just that, sin for which there is no possibility of pardon. If there is any possibility of pardon for any sin it is to be found only in Christ. And Jesus said all sins would be pardoned except one. Any blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is an unpardonable sin, and the Scriptures give no other sin that is not pardonable in Christ. |

54 | What is pardonable sin? | Mark 3:22 | Lionstrong | 138489
Mark 3:22 The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons." Mark 3:23 And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? Mark 3:24 "If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. Mark 3:25 "If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. Mark 3:26 "If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished! Mark 3:27 "But no one can enter the strong man's house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. Mark 3:28 "Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"-- Mark 3:30 because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." So, whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness. This sin is unpardonable. |

55 | What is sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Lionstrong | 138487
1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. What sin is is defined by God's law. Sin is not just some spiritual sounding generalities. What sin is is very specific as well. We owe obedience to whatever God commands us to do. God's commands are our law. So sin is any lack of conformity to or transgression of the law of God. Sin is lawlessness. It is by our violation of God's law that we come to realise that we are sinners. (Rom 7:7 ...I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET.") Christ came to save sinners, not the rigtheous (1 Tim 1:15) Unless we come to believe that we are sinner (and therefore under the wrath of a holy God) we cannot believe in Christ for salvation. The law of God by exposing our sin leads us to Christ (Gal 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.) After we become Christians, sin is still sin. That is, the law of God, although it no longer condemns us who are in Christ, still tells us what sin is, and still shows us how much we need our Savior, and what the standard of good works and holiness is. It still exposes our sins which we must continually confess to him who is faithful and just and who will forgive us sins for Christ's sake (1 John 1:9). Therefore, to repeat, sin is lawlessness. |

56 | Luke 17:6 | Luke 17:6 | Lionstrong | 138454
First, Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; Faith is the gift of God, that is, all three persons of the Trinity have a part in our salvation and the dispensation of faith. For example, Christ Jesus: Heb 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith. And the Father: John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day." It is the Father who draws us to faith in Christ. And finally the Holy Spirit: John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Titus 3:5-7 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. It is to the Holy Spirit that the Bible most ascribes the work of causing us to have faith in Chirst. God saved us, Paul says, by the regenerating (born again) and renewing (repentence and faith) work of the Holy Spirit. The Father chooses those he wants to save (Eph 1:4); Jesus dies for their salvation (Matt 1:21); and the Holy Spirit causes them to believe and call on Christ for salvation. |

58 | Is worry a Part of Satan or God's Plan? | Matt 6:33 | Lionstrong | 119532
You use the word "plan." Now if you mean is it God's REVEALED will that we should worry, then the answer is clearly no. Matt 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matt 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matt 6:27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Matt 6:28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, Matt 6:29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Matt 6:30 "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Matt 6:31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' Matt 6:32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1 Pet 5:7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. But if your question is about God's Plan, then to answer will expose my Reformed bias :) |

59 | How world began? | Gen 1:1 | Lionstrong | 112900
Ps 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. Ps 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Ex 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. Rom 4:17 ... God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist. The world began when God created it. He commanded it to be and it came to be. He did not use anything to make the world. |

"He who thinks of Death is dead already." Ain't in the Bible, but you'll probably find it in the same book that says, "God helps those who help themselves!" But a better passage about death is: 1 Cor 15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death 1 Cor 15:54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. 1 Cor 15:55 "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" 1 Cor 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 1 Cor 15:57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is a verse about being dead already, but it's not your verse: 1 Tim 5:6 But she who gives herself to wanton pleasure is dead even while she lives. And the Bible speaks against the fear of death: Heb 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, Heb 2:15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. |
