41 | What about those who never heard of JC ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 30751
Hello bobwilkins99: The three key concepts that I use to answer that question is: (verses given are not exhaustive, but only samples) 1) Salvation NORMALLY comes by believing the Gospel. Rom 10:12-17 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?" So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 2) God is absolutely just. As Judge his sentence for sin is death. Those who have never heard suffer eternal punishment NOT because they've rejected Christ (How could they? They've never heard of Him), but because they sinned against God. Rom 2:6 who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: Rom 2:12-15 For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them... 3)Mercy is God's prerogative; it is not owed to the non-believer. Everyone does not have to have an opportunity to hear the Gospel in order for God to be just. Rom 9:14-16 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. Therefore, the answer the Bible gives, in my opinion, is that sinnners who have never heard the Gospel and have therefore never repented and believed the Gospel will receive what sinners deserve from a absolutely holy and just God--eternal damnation. Finally, God will hold believers accountable where he has given us opportunity to warn our fellow man of the wrath to come and did not. (Ezek 33) Peace, Lionstrong |

42 | Primary Secular Historical Sources? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 31315
Dear Van; I'm curious. What can one possibly prove about Jesus from secular historical sorces? If a secular source says that a Jesus lived in such and such a place at such and such a time, what does that prove? If they say that this certain Jesus performed miracles, what will that prove about Jesus? Will not the credibility of that account be attacked just like Scripture? "If they do not believe Moses," (translate: if they don't believe God's Word) why would they accept a secular source as proof? (Luke 16:31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'") At best secular sources can only *corroborate* some details of the sacred sorce, but they can never "prove" one detail of what Jesus is, namely, the Christ, the Son of God and Savior of the world. John 20:30 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. Don't misunderstand. There is value in secular histories, but not as proof of the teachings of Scripture. Peace, Lionstrong |

43 | Moses killed why was he still choosen to | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 31340
Hi Sassy, Welcome to the Forum! First, Moses was not a murderer. I hope you understand that not all killing is murder, don't you? What Moses did was in defense and deliverance of God's people. From Stephen's inspired recounting of the event we read: Acts 7:23 "But when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel. Acts 7:24 "And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. Acts 7:25 "And he supposed that his brethren understood that God was granting them deliverance through him, but they did not understand. So, Moses' killing of the Egyptian was an initial act of God delivering His people, although they did not understand that it was such an act. Therefore, God did not punish Moses, because he did not break the yet to be given sixth commandment. (Murder, before the Law was given, was understood by be an offence to God as we see in Cain's murder of Abel (Gen 4). Also in Gen 9:6 God threatened capital punishment [also a form of killing] for those who committed murder.) Peace, Lionstrong |

44 | Free will in heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 31342
Hi Vanagon! Welcome to the Forum! I've two questions for you: 1. What do you mean by the term free will. I suspect many people don't have a clear idea what they mean when they use the expression. 2. Do you think the the unsaved man "freely" chooses to rebel against God, or is the fact that he is born a sinner and a slave to sin and dead in his transgressions, make him unable to do anything else but choose to rebel? 45 | what is grace | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 31470
Welcome to the Forum RBRS! The forum is made up of many people who call themselves Christians. We represent many points of view here. So you must be like the noble-minded believers of Berea and check out what we say with Scripture to see if those things are so. (Act 17:10,11) Now to your question: What is grace. Well, like many words it has more than one meaning. We say, "She was a gracious hostess" or "He glided gracefully over the ice" or "Jim led us in saying grace before the meal." Even in Scripture grace is not always used in the same sense. Do a word search of grace in the "Search word(s):" box to your right and you'll see in some cases that this word is not used with the same meaning. Nonetheless the first and most common (yet most important!) meaning of grace is unmerited or undeserved favor. And a verse in which this meaning is very clearly seen is Ephesians 2:8, 9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." You clearly see here that faith and salvation are "not of yourselves" and "not as a result of works," that is, undeserved and unmerited. So, the meaning of grace here is in keeping with the fact that eternal life is a free gift of God. (Rom 6:23) This is also the meaning Paul uses in the context of this passage in Romans: Rom 11:6 "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace." Finally, one of my favorite passages to show this meaning of grace is Titus 3:4-7, because it also uses the "flip-side" of grace--mercy, which is the WITHOLDING of merited or deserved punishment: "But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." 46 | Doctrine of Jesus Christ from the Bible | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 32649
Dear jefant: You ask, "What is the doctrine of Jesus Christ as mentioned in the Bible." And then you wrote, "I'm asking about the Doctrine of Jesuse Christ as stated in 1st - 3rd John." The doctring of Jesus is what the whole Bible teaches. The Bible says: Luke 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He [Jesus] explained to them [the disciples on the road to Emmaus] the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. You see, jefant, Jesus taught from the whole Bible, "all the Scriptures". 2 John 1:9,10 says, "Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching [doctrine (KJV)] of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching [doctrine], he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching [doctrine], do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; So the doctrine of Chist is ALL that the Old and New Testaments teach us about God and what He requires of us. If you are looking for an excellent summary of those doctrines, I recommend the Westminster Confession of Faith. It is a man made summary. I know you don't want what's man-made. But God gives to the church human teachers to help us to grow. And we have the Bible ourselves to see if the things that they are teaching us is right. The Bible says: Eph 4:11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ Acts 17:11 Now these [the Bereans] were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 49 | Where does Jesus say He is God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 46321
Dear Ineffable: In this long discussion has anyone answered your original question? Well, in answer to your question, such a verse cannot be found. Jesus is never quoted as saying directly that he is God. Now, the Bible does teache that he is, and that point has been adequately demonstrated. However, it is interesting to note that though he had opportunity to deny equality with God, he did not. See the following passages. John 10:31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. John 10:32 Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?" John 10:33 The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God." John 10:34 Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'? John 10:35 "If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), John 10:36 do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? Please note that (1)this is not a denial, and (2) he had an opportunity to make a denial. John 5:17 But He answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working." John 5:18 For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God. John 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. John 5:20 "For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel. John 5:21 "For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. John 5:22 "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, John 5:23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Again, please note, (1)no denial and (2)opportunity. Peace, |

50 | Concerning Does God foreordain murder | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 47217
Dear New Creation, Deut 13:1 "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, Deut 13:2 and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,' Deut 13:3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deut 13:4 "You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. Deut 13:5 "But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from among you." God purposes all things after the counsel of his own will (Eph 1:11). Our job is not to second guess God's purposes in his control of a fallen and evil world, but to obey his commands concerning the sin and evil we face. We are to hate sin and act against evil. One verse that comes particularly to mind is Eph 5:11, "Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them." Hence, our fight against abortion. Peace, |

52 | Can an All Powerful God commit Sin? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 49165
To answer this question one must know what sin is. Sin is any lack of conformity to or transgression of the law of God. There is no law above God. In giving the law, God was not handing down to man something that was binding upon himself. Man by law is accountable to God. God is accountable to no one. There is no law binding him to obedience, and no law above him. He answers to no one. Ps 115:3 But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases. The only thing the God of truth (Ps. 31:5) cannot do is lie. (Titus 1:2) God is righteous, apart from any internal or external standard of righteousness. He is not righteous because of anything, and nothing constrains him to be righteous, and there is nothing toward which he strives to maintain his righteousness. Just as he is the "I am that I am," he is righteous because he is righteous. God cannot sin, because whatever God does is right. Let me put it in the negative, no matter what God does, it is right. What is right is determined by what God does, not by some internal or external law. He is absolute sovereign and he does whatever he pleases. To deny that God's law to man is arbitrary is to bind God by a law and make him subject to it. God cannot do nonsense. He cannot be God and non-God. He cannot be and not be. Can God do anything man can do? No, because for God there is no law. Therefore he cannot sin. God knows all things. Therefore he cannot claim ignorance. God is all-wise. Therefore he cannot make stupid mistakes. These inabilities are not contrary to omnipotence. They are contraries to nonsense. Peace, |

53 | which nation actually resembles God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 50974
Dear Assurance, I extend to you my Welcome! Although you are correct about man resembling God, your idea that the resemblance is man’s body is not on target. It is the inner man, not the outer man, that is the image of God. God does not have a body; He is spirit. And it is man’s spirit that bears God’s likeness, not his body. We all resemble God more and more as we grow in holiness by the power of the Holy Spirit on the basis of the finished work of Christ on the cross. We won’t fully resemble God as we ought until our Savior God Christ Jesus returns. I John 3:2, “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.” (This is not talking about Jesus’ body, but his character.) Peace, |

54 | Is salvation that difficult? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 51179
As important as witnessing is, our number one purpose is not to love man (in terms of leading our neighbors to Christ), but God and to glorify Him. If love of Him is not first priority and His glory our aim, then evangelism loses its proper foundation and becomes meaningless Christian game playing, something to keep us busy while we're here. As God's glory is our aim, we need to discuss, debate, know, teach, and preach the whole counsel of God, not just the atonement, which is the heart of the Gospel. Yes, Our discussions on the forum can lose focus, but neither should we become myopic. Jude 1:2,3 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you. Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. Acts 20:27 "For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. peace, |

55 | Is it not FAITH that pleases GOD? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 52672
Dear Vume, I'm not sure what you mean by substance. I realize that in the KJV Heb. 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for. But this is not a definition of faith. God is telling us something about true saving faith but He is not here giving us a definition. It's the same as in Eph 2:8,9 where it says faith is the gift of God, again, not a definition of faith, but it tells us where faith comes from. It comes from God as a gift. But you are right, Vume, when you say that one must already believe some aspects of the revealed mind of God (the Holy Bible) in order to understand or believe other aspects of His mind that He has revealed to us. For example, some people don't believe or understand that God would go through all the trouble of sending His only Son to save sinners. This is because they don't understand or believe what God has revealed about the intrinsic value of Man as created in the image of God. The Bible is the only revelation of God's mind. And this revelation is not a random, haphazard collection of unrelated truths. The Word of God forms a coherent, unified, non-contradictory system of truth. This is why some aspects of the Mind of God must be understood or believed before others can be understood or believed. But again, faith is NOT action. Saving faith is MENTALLY grasping and holding on to the certain truths revealed by God in His Word. Saving faith RESULTS in action. Faith is the ROOT (maybe what you mean by "substance"); action is the FRUIT. Peace, |

58 | Is there verse on astronomical subjects | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 59835
Greetings michele20, and Welcome to the Studybible Forum! "The Bible's science" The Bible has no scientific statements, that is, conclusions that are reached by modern scientific experimentation and which can be expressed in mathematical formulation. Of course, what God revealed to his apostle and prophets carried along by the Holy Spirit (2Pet 1:21) was not learned by scientific searches or researches. God has always known what he knows, and he knows everything. So what we have in the Scriptures is revealed knowledge, not scientific knowledge. What the Bible says about any aspect of reality (seen or unseen) can be trusted, because the Bible is the Word of God, and God is the God of truth (Ps 31:5) and cannot lie (Titus 1:2). His word is truth and stands forever (John 17:17, Isa 40:8). Peace, |

59 | The Bible is written by man long ago ove | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 60914
Welcome to the Forum, Fisherman! "The Bible is written by man long ago over many years. How can we prove that it still contains the original message?" Assuming the question is an honest one--which is doubtful. He probably has a preconceived notion of what the Bible says, and he does not want to hear it. He does not really care what it says, because he does not want God to tell him what to do with his life. Besides, he's never read the Bible anyway and therefore has no basis for comparison. BUT... assuming it is an honest question, then my first approach is to ask if he knows what the Bible says now. If he does not know what the Bible says now, then he has no basis of comparison with what it might have supposedly said when it was originally penned. If he says yes, question him and see if he really has a thorough knowledge of the gospel. Don't take his word for it, because if he really already knows the gospel, it means he has already rejected it. In this way my questioner has an opportunity to deal with the content of gospel before chasing rabbit trails. Fisherman, the question your associate asked, even if honest, and even if you thoroughly answer it, still does not deal with what the Bible says. And if the message of the Bible is essentially different now than what it was when originally penned, then we either have a different gospel or no gospel at all! Either option leaves us lost and without real hope. Peace, Lionstrong |

60 | big-bang theory | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 66593
Dear Itisfinished, Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Gen 1:31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Ex 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, This is the reality. God created the universe and everything in it in the space of six days and all very good. The Big Bang does not really give us a beginning. It says matter and space have always existed. Well, If it has always existed, then as far as we know the universe has always been expanding and contracting. There was no "first" big band. The theory is correct, however, in saying that there MUST be something that has always existed, but the Bible says that it WAS NOT matter and space. They did have a beginning. They were created by God commanding them to be. What has always existed, according to the Bible is the personal, Triune Lord God Almighty. Ps 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. Ps 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Peace, |
