I think verse 8 is what you're looking for. 1 Tim 5:3 Honor widows who are widows indeed; 1 Tim 5:4 but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God. 1 Tim 5:5 Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day. 1 Tim 5:6 But she who gives herself to wanton pleasure is dead even while she lives. 1 Tim 5:7 Prescribe these things as well, so that they may be above reproach. 1 Tim 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 43 | I'm looking a verse on prasing God. | NT general Archive 1 | Country Girl | 131705
I'm sure you'll get other scriptures from more folks on the Forum but I think this applies quite well, especially vs 24. Matt 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matt 6:20 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; Matt 6:21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. Matt 6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Matt 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matt 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matt 6:27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Matt 6:28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, Matt 6:29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Matt 6:30 "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Matt 6:31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' Matt 6:32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Let me know what you think. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

44 | King James bible only one to read? | Genesis | Country Girl | 123709
The only item in the King James version that is obsessed with itself is the "authorization" by King James himself. He issued it and had it printed at the very front of the Bible. Of course, this was merely another man who was seeking to get yet another slice of glory, more than what was his due. The King James version is fairly good. It's last these 4 centuries and has done a marvelous job of promoting the English language. I take comfort in the fact that there is no such thing as an original authograph copy of God's Word, otherwise it would have turned into an item of worship. It's not the book itself, made from parchment, paper or modern bits on computer disc that's sacred. It's the fact that they actually are the very Words of God that is the original Thoughts/Message of God. Since the first day of their original authorship, man has been struggling with the copying and re-copying, interpreting and re-interpreting of God's Word. I believe for the most part, the vast majority of God's Word in the Bible is just as accurate as it was first recorded but one has to come to conclusion based on faith as it would be impossible to prove "beyond a shadow of a doubt." I think that's the way God prefers it. He wants us to accept Him and what He has to say on faith. The most important thing in this relationship is that we must obey God's Word if we really want to go to Heaven. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

45 | Skeletons of evolution? False? | Genesis | Country Girl | 126853
There are some very good articles covering a wide variety of subjects under the wide umbrella topic of evolution vs. Christianity. They are located at the website, apologetics.com. They're well documented and supported with highly educated christian scientists. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

46 | i see no difference between the two. | Gen 1:1 | Country Girl | 127735
The only is difference is the amplification of the word "created." You see our scientists somehow forget about this point. They start out with the "Big Bang Theory." But upon asking them, "Where did that matter, the energy for that Big Bang come from?" they are totally without answer. So they too start their theories with a leap of faith, just not a very large leap. To me, I can believe in the idea of Creation so much better as supported by our fellow christian scientists at apologetics.com than the theory of Evolution. This latter theory leaves so many hundreds of questions without answers, many more than the few left unanswered with Creation. Hope this helps and blessings to you. Country Girl |

47 | Do you believe in being chosen? | Gen 2:9 | Country Girl | 126082
I can only assume you're directing this question to me. Since I believe so strongly in our complete and total freedom as mentioned in my previous post, I really DO NOT believe that God or any One of the Godhead really seeks out any particular person. I do believe, however, that They are most willing and axious to be invited into our lives and They will assist us in living our christian lives if we'll pray that They do. In my opinion, God see us and our world in a very simple way; it's pretty much black and white for Him. Either we believe in Him or we don't. Either we believe in the Bible or we don't. Let's take this logic to its ultimate conclusion: If a person accepts the idea that God chooses those whom He determines can be or qualify to become a christian (or any variation thereof), then what's left for us to do but simply go to Heaven? Why the need for the rest of the Bible? If that was God's plan to select certain ones to come to Him in Heaven, then why so much emphasis from the Apostles on living a Godly life? God's already chosen and made up His mind. No, I'm afraid I see a lot more into our portion of this relationship. We must be found faithful, at least at the end of our lives, Rev 2:10. And it's not a good idea to "tempt fate" and try to live an ungodly life only to make it up to God in our last few months of life. Godliness or Christianity must become our lifestyle our attitude about life, our total submission of everything we are and everything we hope to be. I know and realize this begins to sounds like "works so we can earn our way to Heaven." But don't you see, although we must work out our salvation in fear and trembling, we must also recongnize our EXTREME need for the Grace and Mercy of God. That's paramount in this relationship. We can't take God's Love or His Grace and Mercy for granted. God paid too much with His own Son's blood to just give it away. But again it's just my opinion. What do you think? Blessings to you. 48 | How can incest be forbidden? | Gen 3:3 | Country Girl | 129758
As most of the responses to your question has indicated, it really all boils down to a matter of trusting in God. There are many features in the Bible which pose some interesting puzzles such as the fact that God commanded the killing of the original inhabitants of the promised land, Canaan before, after and during the taking over of that region by the Israelites. And this is in direct contrast to God's Commandments given to the Israelites just a few Bible chapters before. When we're given puzzles like this, we're all motivated to question such contrasts. So again, in the final analysis, it must boil down to the question: Are we going to trust God or do we continue to question Him and jepordize our relationship with our Father and our fellow christians. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

49 | Why does God send storms? | Gen 3:17 | Country Girl | 133273
I like to think the storms in our world is God's way of trying to clean up the planet we humans have messed up so thoroughly. When one looks at all the awesome power and majesty that is shown throughout this world, we can only be impressed by God's talent. Look at the wonderful way this planet is balanced with the perfect amount of gravity so in spite of spinning through the cosmos at thousands of miles per hour, you and I stay put. Look at the perfect way friction works so that our car brakes slow our cars down just like they're designed. All the science that's evident in our world forces one to draw a solid conclusion. God is in charge and He knows exactly what He's doing. So, if He decides to send about 5-6 hurricanes out way, we have to trust Him and just "batten down the hatches" and endure. Our area is not in much danger of hurricanes but every single area of this planet is subject to some kind of danger. Ours is tonadoes. Some people put up with floods from too much rain, others put up with constant earthquakes like those in the Far Eastern "Rim of Fire." Others put up with Tsunamis (aka tidal waves). The bottom line is that this planet was perfect at its beginning with the Garden of Eden. Apparently, God kept all these things from happening but we messed that up and find ourselves with all the dynamics evident as described above. I, too am grateful that God truly is in charge of this planet and better than that, He's in charge of the next universe after the destruction of this one. Thank God He's given us the Way to find Him and go Home to Him after it's all gone. God bless. Country Girl |

50 | What does Genesis 3:24 mean? | Gen 3:24 | Country Girl | 126538
This verse 24 seems pretty clear. It is a result of God's attitude made plain in verse 22. Gen 3:22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-- Apparently, God didn't intend for man to live forever in his sinful state. He might have done so if he wasn't guilty of sin but we all know now that sin introduced death, pain and suffering into the world. Everything truly good in the world is a result from God, everything else is because of sin or the Devil. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

51 | Would you say that Melchizedek was God | Gen 14:18 | Country Girl | 127429
I like to think that Melchizedek was of the same kindred spirit as in Abraham. Apparently he and Abraham worshipped the same God Almighty as you and I. I'm glad to think that Abraham wasn't alone in his world but had family members willing to give up their world and move with him, like Lot and his wife Sarah. But I'm even more glad that Abraham had a fellow child of God to share this kindred spirit of worship to their God, one who had an equally devoted spirit of love and dedication to this Supreme Being. What a wonderful legacy to leave to the whole world. And the ultimate descendant in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Yes, praise the Lord, God does love to fill us with questions and keep us yearning for answers, some of which just have to wait until we see Him "face to face." Blessings to you. Country Girl |

52 | Did i say you should call me GOD?' | Deut 17:15 | Country Girl | 130216
If you're having doubts about God and His Word, our Bible, I can only suggest your checking into the website of Dr. Bert Thompson. The website is www.apologeticspress.org. He is a christian first and foremost but he's also a scientist and puts out a wealth of information about evidences in favor of christianity. I'm afraid I would have to side with the others on the Forum. I would have grave concerns about turning away from christianity in favor of any other religion. I think Peter sums this up quite well in 2 Pet 2:22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire." I do hope you'll pray and study long and hard before making such an important decision for the rest of your eternity. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

53 | Can we learn anything from Naaman? | 1 Sam 15:22 | Country Girl | 127506
I almost forgot about putting a wrap on this thread. It looks like it's about panned out. Like I mentioned, it seems significant to me at least that this story stands out head and shoulders above most stories in the OT with several distinctive features. A Gentile, a very powerful and successful Gentile in spite of his leporsy hears about God's healing power but goes to the King of Israel and eventually gets referred to God's current prophet, Elisha. Naturally, in his pagan state of understanding gods, Naaman wants Elisha to come out and perform some grand stand ceremony, probably to include some kind of pazaaz or fireworks, etc. But instead Elisha just simply tells his servant to relay a message and have Naaman dip himself in some dirty, muddy river, not once, not just six times but to dip himself a full seven times. "What kind of silly, stupid non-sense is this?" (Paraphrased from the Bible) "I wanted to see the magnificent power of this God of yours but no you tell me this business of dipping myself 7 times in your dirty river when I've got cleaner rivers back home." Naaman's own servant at home (the one who told him about the potential healing available in her home country in the first place) asks him the all powerful question and makes him re-evaluate his pride. That's what it is you know, the only thing standing between him in his miserable condition as a lepor and complete restoration is his stupid pride. So he goes back and can't you just imagine. He dunks his whole body under that dirty water in the River Jordan, once, twice...on to six times and he's still getting any satisfaction. He's not even seeing a beginning of healing, no remission at all. But he might as well go for the seventh time, he's got nothing to lose. Lo and behold, he comes out of that water with skin as whole, fresh and clean as a newborn baby. Now you can imagine his rejoicing and giving God all the glory and worship all the way home and most likely the rest of his life. Now I've said all that and asked the question to make us think: What could we possibly get out of this lesson, this story from God our Father. Our Bibles in the NT says very clearly and very plainly for us to be "baptized for the remission of our sins" in Acts 2:38. Baptism is compared to death, burial and resurrection in Rom 6 and yet so many want to argue about the sequencing or the timing of salvation. So many folks misuse this passage, saying it's against baptism but if you'll look closely, its main point is something else. 1 Cor 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Paul realized he had a very short time here on earth and he also realized the tremendously important and expansive job before him. Therefore, he realized his talent was in preaching the Gospel and he let others in the faith do the baptizing. When one looks at ALL the scriptures from the Bible on this subject of baptism, includinig this story of Naaman, I for one can only come away with one conclusion. Like Paul says in Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. The one single baptism we can all be absolutely sure of is that of the baptism of salvation. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

54 | Explain Psalm 23 | Psalm | Country Girl | 124294
This has got to be at least one of the best, well-known chapters of the whole Bible, and most beloved. It seems very straight-forward and easy to understand, especially if you read the life of King David from the OT. How about making it easy for us? What specific verse or phrase are you having trouble with? The way you've worded your question, it sounds like a "homework assignment" from your Bible class. Surely, you wouldn't be doing that to us, now would you? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

55 | Anger-Psalm 4:4 | Ps 4:1 | Country Girl | 124299
I just noticed with all this controversy about the versions of the Bible, no one has done a very thorough job of answering your question. Since we're all Bible students and dealing with anger is a tough topic, I'd suggest we should stick with God's Word in handling it. I would suggest we look to the one single instance where our Lord showed some anger. John 2:14 And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. John 2:15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; John 2:16 and to those who were selling the doves He said, "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business." John 2:17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME." And he showed this one single display of anger and NOT a single word or even a look of anger when He was beaten unmercilessly for no good reason before His crucifixtion. He was spat upon and tortured with a crown of thorns and many other abuses totally undeserved. The vast majority of the time like 99.9 percent of the time we humans get angry, it's for a reason far, far less worthy than our Lord's example, "His zeal for His Father's temple." I have to conclude that we all should strive to reduce the number of times we get angry and limit them to true instances of totally Godless injustice in the world. But then we must take care and make certain that we DON'T keep this kind of anger pent up inside us for a long extended period of time as it will just destroy our effectiveness as christians. Paul's words are very instructive in this regard Eph 4:26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27nor give place to the devil. Hope this answers your question, at least a little bit. Blessings to you. Country Girl PS: Didn't want to dodge the Bible version controversy. I believe very strongly that the sum total of all the good, well-written, and thoroughly researched versions represent a very good complete Book of Guidance from God. We can take comfort that we do have ALL of what God wants us to know about Himself, His Son and all other matters eteranlly important to Him. As for myself, I prefer the NKJV and NASB, but as I mentioned there are several other good versions. I believe in 1611 and about 350 years thereafter, the KJV was a perfectly good version but now, it's been improved upon with the discovery of those manuscripts. I'm also confident there's very little changes of any significant consequence between the KJV and these more accurate, modern versions. |

56 | What is the "horn of my salvation"? | Ps 18:2 | Country Girl | 133556
I seem to recall it had something to do with the horn of the alter on which the sacrifice was made in the temple. Also the Jewish ritual including sprinkling blood on certain parts of the alter, including the horn. In today's vernacular, those in contract law talk about and discuss the pros and cons of a particular court case and finally it's all summed up by asking/saying "What point of case law is the lawyer going to hang his hat?" That is to say when all is boiled down to the "crux" of the matter, what's the final point? We humans, especially men like to say a "whole lot about a lot of nothing" but I like what King Solomon had to say about it all. Eccl 12:9 In addition to being a wise man, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge; and he pondered, searched out and arranged many proverbs. Eccl 12:10 The Preacher sought to find delightful words and to write words of truth correctly. Eccl 12:11 The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd. Eccl 12:12 But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body. Eccl 12:13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Eccl 12:14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Hope this helps and Blessings to you. Country Girl |

57 | Springs? Source of life? | Prov 4:23 | Country Girl | 131221
I would have to say that the following scripture is a good start. Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Rom 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. We also gain some insight from the words of Jesus Matt 15:11 "It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." Matt 15:12 Then the disciples *came and *said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?" Matt 15:13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted. Matt 15:14 "Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit." Matt 15:15 Peter said to Him, "Explain the parable to us." Matt 15:16 Jesus said, "Are you still lacking in understanding also? Matt 15:17 "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? Matt 15:18 "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. Matt 15:19 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. Matt 15:20 "These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man." Blessings to you. Country Girl |

58 | Do animals have souls? | Eccl 3:21 | Country Girl | 128000
Upon looking I noticed there's a tremendouw wealth of discussion on this topic. It seems to me that the Bible clearly shows a strong negative response to this question. Whereas those in favor have a rather weak set of sciptures in support. I'll offer a couple rather brief verses from God's Word and then draw a conclusion. First of all, we all know from Genesis 1, that the one and only being in all of God's Creation in whom He made in His Image was the man and woman, Adam and Eve. We also know from Genesis that He gave the rest of the world to mankind to be used as we see fit. Next, we see from the Book of Leviticus a very elaborate system of animal sacrifices directed and commanded by God. In direct contrast, God NEVER does actually condone or command the actual killing of a human being at the discretion of one person. The single instance where God did command Abraham to offer his son, Isaac as a sacrifice, God stopped Abraham from carrying through with the ritual. So, we see from all this that God did create in man His Image which did include our souls. In animals, he created those to be used by mankind like the rest of our world. It seems very clear that God did not create animals with a soul. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

59 | follow-up question. | Is 9:6 | Country Girl | 129424
I'll take a shot at your question. I've posted about this subject in a vague sort of way in the past. We need to understand the world back then was far more addicted to this physical world than we are in this current age. They wanted their Messiah to come back and deliver them from the Romans. We see that most clearly in Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 6Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Here we see the resurrected Christ with His disciples just moments before His ascension to His Father. He has been to cross, died for all mankind, and He's been raised from the dead. The most fantastic miracle ever performed in the whole history of this planet. And His disciples ask if He is now ready to take Israel back to its proper prominence in the world when He's already predicted its doom in just a few years. They, His disciples apparently were ready at that very moment to take up the sword against the Roman army and deliver Israel from bondage. No, if the disciples couldn't possibly understand God's plan for us as His children, the rest of the Israelite nation couldn't be expected to as they hadn't spent 3 and one half years with the Lord as these gentlemen had. It took the special empowerment and God given knowledge of the Holy Spirit a few days later for the Apostles to know and then spread the Word to the rest of the world. We must remember "God's Ways are simply NOT man's ways." We are and our thoughts to Him are much like the ants are to us, only farther and far more in contrast. Now, don't get me wrong. We in this dispensation don't do any better. Just look at the history of this planet since the advent of Christianity. We continue in wars, constant world-wide conflict and we can't even agree on what God says in His very own Book. The Book written by men who gave their very lives believing to their dying breath every Word therein. No, we don't have a single thing to brag about. We're all prone to think of ourselves when we're in a crisis. Absolutely none of us could hold a candle to what Christ did or even the Apostles did; mainly because they had the Spirit of God to assist them. We humans have only one thing to look forward to if any of us are looking for the "good life" and that's after Judgment Day. Praise the Lord till that day comes and blessings to you. Country Girl |
