41 | What do this chapter means James2? | James | Country Girl | 127833
The Book of James is known by most Bible Scholars as being one of the practical, down-to-earth books in the Bible. James 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, James 2:3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool," James 2:4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? James 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? James 2:6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? James 2:7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called? James 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well. James 2:9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. James 2:11 For He who said, "DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY," also said, "DO NOT COMMIT MURDER." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. James 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. James 2:13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? James 2:15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, James 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. James 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. James 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? James 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. James 2:25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? James 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. Here in Chapter 2 is James' way of telling us christians that our christianity has to be real and genuine, not fake or artificial. IF it's merely fake or false, our whole christianity is worthless. So this chapter takes one through a series of demonstrations showing us just how real and practical James means this christianity should be to us. We should love others more than ourselves, especially when we see their need is greater just as described in 1 Cor 13. We must watch out for opportunities to demonstrate this real and genuine love every day, all day with acts of kindness. Now, this is NOT to say that we must earn our way to Heaven for that CANNOT be done. The Lord expects us to act like we are living our lives in His very presence so we should do our best to imitate His life and the Christ-like actions we see in the NT. A true christian should see this as a debt we all owe to our Redeemer as He bought and paid for our very souls from the Devil himself. Our Lord is just letting us off easy by imitating His lifestyle and adopting His priorities. Hope this helps and blessings to you. Country Girl |

42 | "All things belong to you" means what? | 1 Cor 3:21 | Country Girl | 127775
I would infer a lot from the context: 1 Cor 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Cor 3:17 If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. 1 Cor 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; 1 Cor 3:20 and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." 1 Cor 3:21 So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, 1 Cor 3:22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 1 Cor 3:23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God. We must remember Corinth in the first century was one of the world's most well developed cities. They even thought about making a canal across their isthmus long before it was actually built in the past century. So they were very modern but they also had all the sin and controversies to go with it. Paul dealt with a lot of problems detailed throughout both 1 and 2 Corinthians. Blessings to you. 43 | Because he betrayed Jesus? | NT general Archive 1 | Country Girl | 127767
Throughout the Gospel accounts, Peter seems to be the most brash and impulsive. He is the one that the Lord singles out to first the Good Confession of Christ as Lord, Son of God. He was part of the inner group, Peter, James and John, at the Transfiguration and so much more. He was the Gospel preacher on that fateful day in Jerusalem establishing the first day of the day? No, if it had been someone else to get out of that boat, we'd all be asking why was it not Peter? Apparently, he was living up to his reputation, much like chopping off an ear from a soldier only to watch your Mentor and Master restore it and tell you to put your sword away a few chapters later. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

44 | i see no difference between the two. | Gen 1:1 | Country Girl | 127735
The only is difference is the amplification of the word "created." You see our scientists somehow forget about this point. They start out with the "Big Bang Theory." But upon asking them, "Where did that matter, the energy for that Big Bang come from?" they are totally without answer. So they too start their theories with a leap of faith, just not a very large leap. To me, I can believe in the idea of Creation so much better as supported by our fellow christian scientists at apologetics.com than the theory of Evolution. This latter theory leaves so many hundreds of questions without answers, many more than the few left unanswered with Creation. Hope this helps and blessings to you. Country Girl |

45 | WHAT ARE SOME OF THE FEATS OF THE BIBLE? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 127657
Do you have in mind, miraculous acts like Samson's killing of tens of thousands of Philistenes by pushing down some pillars or David's killing of a giant soilder when David was a mere boy with no armor? Maybe you're referring to the very dramatic contest of Elijah and his God and that of the false gods at Mt. Carmel in 1 Ki 18? There are many more such feats in the Bible. To which category are you referring? Maybe you could give us a few more details? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

Which Book of the Minor Prophets were you planning to tackle? Or maybe you hope to discuss them all, starting with the first? What kind of format(s) would you be thinking about? I would suggest that the format include a short introduction about the book. Maybe solicit volunteers to tackle the different succeeding books in sequence. Let us what you think? Blessings to you. 48 | Can we learn anything from Naaman? | 1 Sam 15:22 | Country Girl | 127506
I almost forgot about putting a wrap on this thread. It looks like it's about panned out. Like I mentioned, it seems significant to me at least that this story stands out head and shoulders above most stories in the OT with several distinctive features. A Gentile, a very powerful and successful Gentile in spite of his leporsy hears about God's healing power but goes to the King of Israel and eventually gets referred to God's current prophet, Elisha. Naturally, in his pagan state of understanding gods, Naaman wants Elisha to come out and perform some grand stand ceremony, probably to include some kind of pazaaz or fireworks, etc. But instead Elisha just simply tells his servant to relay a message and have Naaman dip himself in some dirty, muddy river, not once, not just six times but to dip himself a full seven times. "What kind of silly, stupid non-sense is this?" (Paraphrased from the Bible) "I wanted to see the magnificent power of this God of yours but no you tell me this business of dipping myself 7 times in your dirty river when I've got cleaner rivers back home." Naaman's own servant at home (the one who told him about the potential healing available in her home country in the first place) asks him the all powerful question and makes him re-evaluate his pride. That's what it is you know, the only thing standing between him in his miserable condition as a lepor and complete restoration is his stupid pride. So he goes back and can't you just imagine. He dunks his whole body under that dirty water in the River Jordan, once, twice...on to six times and he's still getting any satisfaction. He's not even seeing a beginning of healing, no remission at all. But he might as well go for the seventh time, he's got nothing to lose. Lo and behold, he comes out of that water with skin as whole, fresh and clean as a newborn baby. Now you can imagine his rejoicing and giving God all the glory and worship all the way home and most likely the rest of his life. Now I've said all that and asked the question to make us think: What could we possibly get out of this lesson, this story from God our Father. Our Bibles in the NT says very clearly and very plainly for us to be "baptized for the remission of our sins" in Acts 2:38. Baptism is compared to death, burial and resurrection in Rom 6 and yet so many want to argue about the sequencing or the timing of salvation. So many folks misuse this passage, saying it's against baptism but if you'll look closely, its main point is something else. 1 Cor 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Paul realized he had a very short time here on earth and he also realized the tremendously important and expansive job before him. Therefore, he realized his talent was in preaching the Gospel and he let others in the faith do the baptizing. When one looks at ALL the scriptures from the Bible on this subject of baptism, includinig this story of Naaman, I for one can only come away with one conclusion. Like Paul says in Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. The one single baptism we can all be absolutely sure of is that of the baptism of salvation. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

49 | Would you say that Melchizedek was God | Gen 14:18 | Country Girl | 127429
I like to think that Melchizedek was of the same kindred spirit as in Abraham. Apparently he and Abraham worshipped the same God Almighty as you and I. I'm glad to think that Abraham wasn't alone in his world but had family members willing to give up their world and move with him, like Lot and his wife Sarah. But I'm even more glad that Abraham had a fellow child of God to share this kindred spirit of worship to their God, one who had an equally devoted spirit of love and dedication to this Supreme Being. What a wonderful legacy to leave to the whole world. And the ultimate descendant in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Yes, praise the Lord, God does love to fill us with questions and keep us yearning for answers, some of which just have to wait until we see Him "face to face." Blessings to you. Country Girl |

50 | When did the devil sin? | 2 Pet 2:4 | Country Girl | 127428
We're not given all the details and the actual sequencing of these events so we're left to discuss and draw our own conclusions. The only thing we do know for certain is that EVERYTHING God created was good and then a relatively short time later, the Devil tempts Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Like it's already been shown by Stultis and your questions, this is a tough subject to figure out. I really don't think God meant for us to spend a whole lot of time discussing this stuff. I'm just thankful that our opinions on this subject are NOT going to influence our Day of that Final Exam or our Lord's final evaluation therefrom. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

52 | Why is the thread associated with ID# .. | 2 Pet 2:4 | Country Girl | 127352
The post 127074 was restricted by the Lockman Foundation of the Forum because they are dedicated to God's Word and Its rightful claim to being the absolute Truth. It is a basic self-evident contradiction of His Word to think that God could have created evil and is thus banned as soon as the Foundation know of its existance. I'm not an expert on the subject but in the Gospel of John, Chapter 1, we see that EVERYTHING in the universe, even the physical and spiritual was created by God. In Genesis, we're told that everything God created was good. BUT that's not to say that everything stayed that way. We see the Fall of Mankind and the spoiling of the world by the introduction of sin. This sin was introduced by Satan. So our conclusion is that although Satan was an angel created by God, apparently he turned bad and was sentenced to Hell by God as referenced above. So even the angels are given their freedom to choose whom to serve: God or their own ungodly way. Hope this helps and blessings to you. Country Girl |

53 | lords voice how do we know | John 15:10 | Country Girl | 126983
I'm convinced that we would have to compare the words we hear with those in our Bible. Of course, the Bible must take precedence over anything else because we KNOW for certain it comes from God. Gal 1:8 Everything else in our human expereince is suspect or subject to ungodly influence, and thus should be subjected to MUCH scrutiny. Hope this helps and blessings to you. Country Girl |

54 | What is an angel | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 126981
The meaning of angel throughout the Bible has always been "messenger of God." Is there something in particular about angels you wish to know? Please elaborate. Also, it'll help greatly if you can pinpoint which angel in scripture to whom you're referring. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

55 | Where is God? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 126912
When I read your statement, I can only respond with the basics. Keep reading your Bible and keep praying. You might try to spend more time with your fellow christians and ask a brother in whom you can confide your feelings and ask him how he has dealt with these kind of problems. With respect to your Bible reading, you might place special emphasis on reading from and about God's special people who had similar problems like Job and Solomon. They each had their own misgivings about God and provide some stimulating answers. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

58 | Is it ever okay to judge others? | 1 Cor 5:12 | Country Girl | 126618
You've received many good responses but I'd like to throw mine in for your consideration. First of all, I would refer you to James. James 2:14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. James 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." James 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? James 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. James 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. So we see that we as christians having true faith in our Lord, we will be producing works to show that faith. Christ made this plain in his discussion about our being part of His vineyard. In order for us to maintain that connection to our Lord, we must produce fruit of our faith and not be cut off. So when we see our fellow christians having difficulty in this area, we should love them enough to talk to them and strive to assist them in being fruitful. If a person refuses in this effort to be fruitful, we shouldn't judge Him as we can't see into his mind or his conscience and know his actual motivation unless he tells us. But we can at least see his fruit or the lack thereof and assist him with love and concern for his soul. In the final analysis, we humans must be very careful in judging the producitivity or fruitfulness of fellow christians as shown in Jesus parable of those men with 5, 2 and 1 talent(s). Instead Jesus encourages us to allow the wheat and tares grow together and He will determine the genuine christian from the imitators. See Matt 13. Hope this helps and blessings to you. |

60 | Isn't jealousy bad? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 126573
Jealousy is most certainly a bad thing when one is talking about jealousy and humans (you and me). But when one turns to the subject of Jealousy and God, that's a whole different matter. Since He is the Creator and we are the created, He is completely entitled to all the Jealousy He would like to display. He bought us and paid for us with dear Son's blood. Now it's up to us to redeem ourselves and live a christian life and make it to Heaven. But as you've indicated, God is a Jealous God and will NOT tolerate sharing us with the Devil. "We're either for Him or against Him and for the Devil." God's Perfect sense of Justice demands this kind of Jealousy. Hope this helps your understanding and blessings to you. Country Girl |
