381 | Lastday, Who was "standing HERE"? | Mark 9:1 | Scribe | 42981
The "some standing here" are Peter, James, and John Mark 9:1-3 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. What Jesus is saying is that " I am about to show you what the power of the coming of Jesus Christ at his second coming will be like." so he takes them up to the mountian and they see him Transfigured as bright as the sun This is exactly what happens to the saint when they are changed in a twinkling of an eye and rise to meet the Lord. At that moment they will partake of His glory. Not a disappearing from view but a transfiguration It says we are changed in a twinkling not that we dissapear from view in a twinkling. This is the only part of the rapture doctrine I have an issue with. I believe this does happen prior to the Wrath of God poured out on wicked mankind, but the world sees us rise in glory. It will be an glorious vindication. Also the devil will try to stop it by arguing that we do not have a right to miss out on death because of sin. Michael will war with satan in the heavenly (spiritual realm) which we will enter into, and then Michael will point to the legal justification of the Cross and Christ as why we can miss death. The devil will be cast down from the spiritual realm of the power of the air that he now has access to and will then seek to posses the anti christ (speculation on my part). The saints rise and the heavenly host praises God that we have overcome the accuser that accused us night and day by the blood of the lamb and by our testimony of the Word (being born again of the word of God). Now look at this that Peter says, Peter who was there when Jesus said "here be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." This same Peter that then saw that power on the mount... says this.. 2 Peter 1:16-17 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2 Peter 1:18-19 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Daniel 12:1-3 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Do you see it? Hallelujah! May God Bless you in the Study of his Word. |

382 | Pretribulation or slightly after ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 42972
Thanks John, I stand corrected. However Seiss cites his sources and other writers throughout the book and many of these date back centuries before. I do not have the book with me, But I remember highlighting the sources so that I could bring it up when I hear these comments that make it sound like saints did not expect a catching away prior to a tribulation before the 19th century. They may not have called it by the name "rapture" but they expected the event to occur. I will have to get the book and qoute the sources when I get a chance. I do not read of any saying we dissapear though. The idea of disappearing seems to be a recent doctrine. The idea of glorification is what I see in the ancients, and what I get in reading the Bible. I am not dogmatic about certain eschatoligical views that are not made clear to man. The approach to understanding it, or that which I have faith for, is that of basing these mysteries first of all on the Prophets of the OT. I am convinced that all the NT has it's foundation on the OT prophets. So if there is a mystery that Paul had about a generation of living saints being glorified without dying then it must bee hinted at somewhere in the OT though it certainly could be hidden until Jesus came and the Holy Spirit was poured out and men like Paul were called to reveal it. So if I search the OT first on all things related to the bodily resurrection I do seem to see different events. Some that explain a resurrection of only the righteous and some that mention both the wicked and the righteous. One of the passages that I think is foundational is Isaiah 26:19-21 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. If I compare this to what Paul spoke about in 1 cor 15 I begin to get a revelation of the same mystery that Paul had. There is such an event awaiting the saints and according to Is 26 there will be a time of judgement while these saints are hidden. If we were to collect all the verses on this topic we can see why there is strong evidence for a pre-trib rapture. Though it does not really matter to me. My central focus is to live as though the Lord will come today and to be able to say I have run a good race. I believe one should live as though this was their last day on earth. This is a challenge, that requires great faith. I will admit I often have to get on my face before God and repent that I am cold and in need of being made hot again. May God Bless you in your study of His Word. |

383 | what is jesus trying to explain | Luke 18:1 | Scribe | 42897
It is talking about faith. Praying in faith and not giving up until you recieve and answer. He states...telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,.. and then ends with... when the son of man comes will he find faith on the earth... This kind of faith of the woman. The lesson is this A good example but not the only applcation Let's say you have a besetting sin..you want to be freed from it. The enemy or adversary is vexing you with shame guilt and condemnation. You can go to Christ in faith and say Lord you died on the cross for me to be free from this sin. I know that your word says that sin shall not have dominion over me. I claim that promise in your holy name. I believe I recieve victory over this sin. I repent and will recieve grace from God to resist this sin in the future." now if the saint goes on and stumbles again, he is to continue praying.. "God I will not be denied, Your word says I can be free from this sin, I will not accept anything less than your word on this subject. I know that the Word of God cannot fail And your word says that sin shall not have dominion over me.. " Soon that saint will be free from that sin and never fall to it again. Jesus is saying.. how many will pray and believe like this when I come again. The indication seems to be that few will be like that. That more might be believing dumb things like "oh we are weak and god understands our propensity toward sin and so it is ok to hang on to this sin" May God Bless you as you study His Word. |

384 | What about tithes and offering | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 42885
Not as a law. The Christian lives by the law of love and gives from the abundance of a loving heart has God has prospered him. The tithe some use as a rule or guide but it is not a Law. In other words, no christian is condemned by God or called unrighteous if his bank records show he did not give 10 percent of his income. He is the righteousness of God by faith in Christ and he can grow in how to give as the Lord teaches him. He will want to give because of the cause not becuase of the law. He will want to give to the cause, such as helping poor saints or helping send a missionary to the Congo. The saint who's heart is filled with love will give without a law. The law of love leads the saint in all areas of obedience to Christ. Those that love the Lord will worship HIm in spirit and in truth every day and not just on the sabbath. The saint that knows the Lord keeps sabbath everyday. |

385 | Is suicide a mortal sin? | 2 Sam 17:23 | Scribe | 42884
2 Samuel 17:23 And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father. When you read of the examples of those that killed themselves in the Bible you will notice one thing all had issues that made them in a lost condition as it relates to salvation and eternal life before they killed themselves. We are saved by faith in the Lord, repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than getting hung up on the logic of can a person be forgive of suicide (sense all sin can be forgive) it probably would be better to ask "can a person be saved without faith" of which there could hardly be any present in the act of suicide. God bless you in your Study of His Word. |

386 | Was Lot selfish or greedy? | Gen 13:10 | Scribe | 42877
Genesis 13:10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. "And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered" Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise... 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. It seems that the desire in the heart of Lot was that of worldly comfort and ease. It is true that Lot was called righteous but I am sure that he would have been more pleasing to God if he had said " I cannot dwell in the midst of the hellish place and vex my righteous soul, before he went in rather than after he had to come out. And even when see him pleading with God to be allowed to go in to Zoar (which means little) reveals that he still had a little of that desire for worldly comforts. Finally in Zoar he has had enough, he sees things as they are and flees that wicked place. Later his daughter get him so drunk he blacks out, so he still has a way to go. But eventually he has this testimony.. "he was a righteous man." Praise God for forgetting those things which are behind and calling us righteous by faith. |

387 | Jesus according to Paul, vs. the Gospels | 2 Tim 3:16 | Scribe | 42846
Yes the book of Enoch. The writer was not Enoch and no serious scholar ever believed it was. It was not written until about 200Ad and it was an attempt by the writer to make it sound like Peter was quoting the book of Enoch. The writer probably made up an idea that he was possessed by the spirit of Enoch. This kind of thing is still with us in the cults that teach similar doctrines of the gnostics. The book of Hebrews was written by Paul and it is obvious if you compare it to Pauls writings. I don't much care for scholars that squabble over who wrote what. It is pretty obvious to the reader even if they aren't a Greek and Hebrew Scholar. God had been Gracious to keep His Word available to us, and will do so until we go to be with Him. I think writer of the The Apocalypse of Adam and the writer of the book of Enoch had similar demons. The book of Mormon and the Quran follow the same pattern of men trying to sound spiritual, but because they do not know God never pull it off to the discerning christian. The born again Christian is the only spiritual man that is in communion with the Holy Spirit and has the divine light that these imposters were trying to pretend. Thus the born again Christian can always recognize these imposters becuase the born again christiant that walks intimatly with Christ is so familiar with the truth and the light that the darkness and the false is manifest, or obviouse when the holy saint hears it or reads it. There is not much value in studying all the details of a cult teaching. All you really need, in order to expose them, is to be familiar with the truth. May God Bless you in Your Study of His Word. |

388 | Gods days or mans days | Lev 23:3 | Scribe | 42843
Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. Hmmm? Maybe you meant why do "catholics" celebrate these days. Most of the christians in America in conservative evangelical denominations or nondenominational churches (which are fast becoming the largest group of dedicated christians in Amerca) understand that these holidays were started by the Catholics. They do not celebrate them as a day that God has commanded them they must observe. They may use them to witness. If the world will literally stick their fingers in their ears when you talk about Jesus; but at Christmas, listen with respect or come to your church and see a presentation that presents the gospel, then by all means use the catholic invented holidays to win the Lost. God knows you are not winning any lost souls laying in bed on the sabbath. |

389 | what does Easter mean | Acts 12:4 | Scribe | 42841
Acts 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Here it is Gr. Passover I am sure you know by now that The Roman Catholic church set up the idea of celebrating Easter as the resurrection of the Lord. Now today those that do not see it as commandment from the Bible might still use it to evangelize all the poor ignorant sinners that are not yet born again that will visit their church on that day when they do not go to church any other day. God looks at the heart. And if you love people you will use every opportunity to win them to Christ and the Story of the Crucifixtion and Resurrection of Christ is somthing you should preach on that day since your church might be filled with sinners who have never really understood it. So it is not a sin to celebrate the day as such. |

390 | slavery of Isreal | John 8:34 | Scribe | 42839
When you sin in your heart you become a slave to it. Then you wander why you keep falling into the same sin and wonder if you will ever really be free. The answer is to have faith when you repent and begin to practice saying no to the sin and walking in righteousness. Soon you will become a servant of righteousness. John 8:32-34 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. |

391 | why did they feel compelled to cover | Gen 3:7 | Scribe | 42810
Innocense knows no guilt or shame. The point was that to know about evil was never the plan of God. To have knowledge of evil is to know you have done wrong. The idea that to be without clothing was wrong had come into their minds as a result of having done wrong. Not only to be naked but many other things became known to them that they had never been concerned with before. As they go forth into the world they experience such things as being angry and Cain kills his brother. To look at Able and to be wroth was another thing that had been gained by eating the fruit besides that of knowing you were naked.
392 | Jesus according to Paul, vs. the Gospels | 2 Tim 3:16 | Scribe | 42808
The person that thinks that the Nag Hamadi texts are consistant with Pauls writings has not read either Paul or the Nag Hamadi texts. The reason the gnostic texts were rejected was because Johns revelation was effective in expunging the false teachers from the churches Rev Chapter 2 - 3 The gnostics were so messed up they would write a book and say it was from Timothy and knowing that he was not Timothy think to himself that he was not lying becuase he was a "spiritual" timothy. This sort of falsehood was common. Of course the real motive was to deceive. But a false prophet never goes about thinking "I am a false prophet. I will devour ignorant sheep like a wolf and use them for my own purposes." No usually a false teacher will think to himself some complex structure of logic that makes him think he is in contact with the "mystical" idea of god that he has imagined. There are hardly any moral limits for them. For almost anything can be justified. So in the Book of Revelation Chapter 2-3 they are rebuked as being inspired of hell and their doctrine exposed. These were the early gnostics. Nicolatains were the first. The Nag Hamadi texts were an example of thier writings or of those that wrote some time after 90 AD What would a person have to gain by accepting the gnostics over the Bible? Well this mainly, they believe they can commit fornication and still go to heaven. Now to someone with a porn addiction, but who wants to inherit eternal life, they might find this an attractive beleif system. The only problem is, that it is a lie! And they will wake up in hell. May God bless you in the Study of His Word. Read the gnostics and see what you think. http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/nhlalpha.html |

393 | How can God let us go through pain? | 1 Pet 2:24 | Scribe | 42802
I have seen cancer patients healed by faith in Jesus Christ and through prayer for healing. The Doctors might call it by names such as remission but if it does not come back it would be the same as a healing and so not worth arguing over. I remember when we prayed for a lady who is now healed. She had others around her that were planning her funeral. These people said they were Christians, and they did pray for her, but they never prayed for her to be healed, because they thought that would be too hard for God. OK, honestly I am sure they never said those words, but that is why Christians do not believe that God heals today, they simply find it hard to believe that God can heal. Oh yes they believe it happened in the NT. But then that was 2000 years ago and to acknowledge you believe that it happened then does not require any faith. I know that is a strange sounding statement but it is true nevertheless. It takes no faith at all to say thay you believe the story about Lazuras is true, or of the blind man Bartimaeus. But ask them to pray for this dear sister that was suffering from cancer to be healed like in the stories of the Bible and they quickly try to fish up an doctrine about how God turned in his healing card around 90 AD. I will tell you that many suffer and die becuase no one will pray for healing. Now that being said many might die and not be healed. I will not say it is always about not having faith. Sometimes if a person is ready to go to heaven (they are born again and fellowship with Christ in holiness) they may be healed by dieing. For the death of the saint is precious in the eyes of the Lord. Someone has called it the 'ultimate healing.' But if a person does not know the Lord and has sown to the flesh all their lives is God culpable if the sinner suffers in agony and disease? God forbid. The warning has been sounded for these many centuries, that if a man sows to the flesh of the flesh they shall reap corruption. But who are we to judge? you ask. Whether we judge the reason for human suffering or silently look on, the laws of reaping and sowing continue,. seed time and harvest.. cold and heat.. And whether we are honest and recognize that we are always more to blame for human suffering .. or we decide to belligerently blame God in the light of all the warnings issued for these thousands of years.. either way, God's voice will be heard, and in the end God will be justified, and found True, and righteous, and Just, and man found to be the blame. About the woman that was healed cancer... I was there when believers in the Word of God came to the prayer meeting and laid hands on her and spoke an abundance of scriptures on healing until faith arose in her heart and she was healed. I remember when some who were there kept trying to cast doubt saying .. "god does not always heal... and it may not be his will to heal.." and these saints were rebuked in love and asked to only pray scripture. After that the prayer changed and she was healed. In the bible there is more than one example when doubters are made to leave a room. I cannot explain why God has set it up that way. But He has. Often we receive not because we ask not. You think God would withhold blessing from someone because they did not ask? I think we withhold it from ourselves when we do not ask. Faith pleases God, not passive indifference. And the more fervent the faith, the greater the results. If when you pray for sick people you ask those that are there to only pray healing scriptures, then what happens is that the prayers turn to positive faith prayers. May God bless you in your study of His Word. |

394 | Adam and Eve ashamed of their nakedness? | Gen 3:7 | Scribe | 42794
The point is that as long as they did not know they were naked they had no shame. When they thought of being naked as a state of, not being covered when they should be, then they were ashamed. When adam hid himself it was because he knew he was naked. The point seems to be that he now knew he needed a covering for his sin. Genesis 3:7-11 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? Innocence is better than knowledge of evil. Some may think they need to know about the details of sin but it is better to remain innocent. Paul said it was a shame to speak of those things that homosexuals do in secret. And this reveals the holy mind of the redeemed saint. We should follow after that which is good and flee all appearance of evil. No greater testimony does a young person have than to say I was saved at 6 and never messed with drugs, alcohol or sex. These young people may think they don't have a testimony worth sharing because they are accustomed to hearing testimonies of bank robbers and gangsters who were born again and changed by the grace of God. Those are wonderful testimonies but it is a greater story to hear how God has kept a youth from the age of accountability to adulthood away from all sorts of sins and even kept them innocent of the details of what others do in secret. And for those that were once involved in every kind of wicked work, God can renew the mind so that the dead works are purged and even the saint cannot remember the details. Innocence is to be cherished not maligned. Stay away from ministries that say they are called to expose the wicked things men do in secret, God's word has not changed, it is still a shame to speak about them. It is enough to call it sin without polluting wholesome thoughts with the details of the sin. |

395 | and the earth shall cast out the dead. | Is 26:19 | Scribe | 42679
Thank you. Then if this verse applies to the promise spoken about the glorification of the saints, wouldn't it be good exegesis to apply the rest of the passage event surrounding this rising of the saints. Isaiah 26:19-21 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. According to this passage, immediatlly after the rising of the saints, what happens? Does the world immediatly enter into the 1000 year reign? NO Look at what happens after the saints rise... Isaiah 26:20-21 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. So we see a time of outpouring of judgment on the world while the saints are hidden by God. Sounds as though this foundational prophecy that Paul got his revelation from is pre-trib in scope. Again I am not dogmatic about that which might be beyond human grasp. May God bless you in your study of His Word. |

397 | is esau eternally damned? | Heb 12:15 | Scribe | 42670
Hebrews 12:15-17 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Very Good question, and one that deserves an answer. This is one of the most sobering passages in the new testament. The reason that Esau was condemned was that he had a heart that considered the temporary lusts of the flesh more to be desired and satisfied than to desire and seek after eternal promises of God by faith. This passages warns christians to take heed that they not have this kind of heart. What it means is that we must continue to have the heart of Jacob that held on to the Angel of the Lord and would not be denied blessing from God. If in a time of temptation to sin against God you remember that you are in a sense choosing a bowl of soup for the divine presence and promises of God it will help you to resist and will cause the power of the lust to fade. If you did fall into a sin would you be eternally damned? We all know that is not true or no one would be saved. However Esau was not condemned because he did such a thing one time. Esau had a heart condition that he did not repent of. When the passage says he sought it with tears it does not mean that Esau sincerely cryed out to God but God would not forgive him. It is a reference to when Esau cried after he found out that Jacob had recieved the blessing that should have been Esau's as the first born, when he came to Isaac and found out Jacob had already been there disguised as Esau. Esau wept, Genesis 27:34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. .. he was seeking a change in the situation.. He wept but not to the Lord in repentance but to Isaac saying.. Bless me.. even ME... and then vowed to kill Jacob after he found out there was no remedy for loosing his birth right. Esau had no one but himself to blame, but you never read of Esau acknowledging this. If he had of he would have been forgiven. Esau cried seeking to change the situation but not seeking to be forgiven by God. What lesson is Paul applying to saints? Paul says we should be careful to make sure such a heart is not found in us? If it were not possible then Paul would not have been inspired to warn us. The truth is that satan will attempt this strategy against the saints. We are not ignorant of his devices thanks to scriptures like these. May God bless you in your study of His Word. |
