3101 | scriptures on how and why to prayto buil | Bible general Archive 1 | kalos | 873
To find Scriptures on the why and how to of prayer, why not look up the words "pray" and "prayer" in your concordance, esp. NT Scriptures? For example, the concordance in the New Scofield Reference Bible, under prayer, groups references for Prayer: occasions, objects, examples of; commanded; encouragements to; how to be offered; in the name of Christ; promises for; public; private; etc. If you don't have a concordance, you can find one online at bible.crosswalk.com

John 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. . . . Rom 8:1 (NASB)Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. |

3103 | Do you believe once save, always saved. | Luke 23:43 | kalos | 855
ONCE LOST, ALWAYS LOST. . . . "Once saved, always saved." This statement is not in the Bible. Nor is it a phrase used by Baptist preachers. The only people who use this phrase are the ones who reject the Bible doctrine of Eternal Security, the opposite of which would be Eternal Insecurity. . . .While "once saved, always saved" is hotly debated, one thing is for certain: Once lost, salvation is always lost. " . . . logically Heb. 6:4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier." Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with, "either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) |

NASB . . . Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." |

3105 | WHERE IS THE ARK OF THE COVENANT? | OT general | kalos | 847
Although you may find many "authorities" who know the answer to your question, the actual location of the Ark of the Covenant is unknown.
3106 | Upon death do we go directly to Heaven? | Luke 23:43 | kalos | 835
2 Cor 5:6-8 (NKJV) 6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. . . . Philippians 1:21-24 (NKJV) 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. |

3107 | Author of James, brother of Jesus? | James | kalos | 834
"Of the 4 men named James in the NT, only two are candidates for authorship of this epistle. No one has seriously considered James the Less, the son of Alphaeus . . . , or James the father of Judas, not Iscariot . . . Some have suggested James the son of Zebedee and brother of John (Matt. 4:21), but he was martyred too early to have written it (Acts 12:2). That leaves only James, the oldest half-brother of Christ (Mark 6:3) and brother of Jude (Matt 13:55)." (MacArthur Study Bible, p. 1924)
3108 | where do blacks come from? | Bible general Archive 1 | kalos | 833
If the question is "according to the Bible, where do blacks come from"; then the answer is there is not a clear verse of Scripture telling us where blacks come from. It is unwise to speculate about that on which the Bible is silent. As an American, you are free to speculate all you want to. But, as one who relies solely on the authority of Scripture for all doctrine and practice, leave speculation to others.
3109 | Who are the 24 elders in this verse? | Rev 19:4 | kalos | 800
Since the 24 elders are neither named nor identified, then we do not know their identity with any certainty. The 24 elders are "representative of either the whole company of believers in heaven or an exalted angelic order worshiping and serving God there . . . The number 24 is often understood to reflect the 12 Israelite tribes of the OT and the 12 apostles of the NT." (Zondervan NASB Study Bible, p. 1854)
3110 | Why do we disagree? | 1 Thessalonians | kalos | 790
Truly I do not know the answer to your question: "...how can we...disagree on something that important?" You may as well ask, if we are all one body, then why are there so many different denominations? I suspect that if a person could answer one of these question, he'd be halfway to answering the other, as well.
3111 | What does watch over your heart mean? | Prov 4:23 | kalos | 789
The best commentary is a good translation. "Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life" (Ps 4:23 Contemporary English Version).

3113 | Help with misled teen with gender issues | 1 Pet 5:7 | kalos | 764
I would not be so foolish as to try to answer your question with a one-size-fits-all Bible verse. Finding a Christian counselor is not an easy task. Especially if you live, as I do, in a small rural area. Be assured God does care and He loves you and your son. I would suggest calling 1-800-4 PRAYER. The folks there don't do couseling, but they can sure encourage you with their prayers.
3114 | Have you ever looked at Urantia Book? | Rev 19:4 | kalos | 758
No, I have never looked at Urantia book. It is something that I was not aware of until you called it to my attention. Thank you for doing so. I looked it up under MSN Search and found 3,690 results containing 'Urantia'. Perhaps you could write a paragraph introducing the book to the members at this website.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Could you be more specific?
3116 | Where is "accept Christ" in the Bible? | Acts 24:3 | kalos | 751
Good question. Clearly my search in the King James Version New Testament showed only ONE occurence of the word "accept" in the entire N.T. . . . Ac 24:3 (KJV) We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness. . . . Bear in mind that much pop theology is derived from "Christian" music and Christmas cards. Where is it found in the Bible? Well, people don't like to be conufused with all that doctrinal "stuff." |

3117 | who was Theophilus that Luke wrote to | Luke 1:3 | kalos | 738
"Theophilus. His name means 'dear to God,' or 'friend of God.' He is unknown otherwise, but the form of the address shows that he was a person of high rank." (Ryrie Study Bible, Moody Press, p. 1542)

3120 | What is required in giving offerings alm | Bible general Archive 1 | kalos | 699
NEW TESTAMENT BELIEVERS ARE NEVER COMMANDED TO TITHE. . . . Does God require me to give a tithe of all I earn? . . . Two kinds of giving are taught consistently throughout Scripture: giving to the government (always compulsory), and giving to God (always voluntary) . . . . The issue has been greatly confused, however, by some who misunderstand the nature of the Old Testament tithes. Tithes were not primarily gifts to God, but taxes for funding the national budget in Israel . . . . Because Israel was a theocracy, the Levitical priests acted as the civil government. So the Levite's tithe (Leviticus 27:30-33) was a precursor to today's income tax, as was a second annual tithe required by God to fund a national festival (Deuteronomy 14:22-29). Smaller taxes were also imposed on the people by the law (Leviticus 19:9-10; Exodus 23:10-11). So the total giving required of the Israelites was not 10 percent, but well over 20 percent. All that money was used to operate the nation . . . . All giving apart from that required to run the government was purely voluntary (cf. Exodus 25:2; 1 Chronicles 29:9). Each person gave whatever was in his heart to give; no percentage or amount was specified . . . . New Testament believers are never commanded to tithe. Matthew 22:15-22 and Romans 13:1-7 tell us about the only required giving in the church age, which is the paying of taxes to the government . . . . Interestingly enough, we in America presently pay between 20 and 30 percent of our income to the government--a figure very similar to the requirement under the theocracy of Israel . . . . The guideline for our giving to God and His work is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7: "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver." © 2000 Grace to You . . . (www.gty.org Click on Issues and Answers.
