Johnny, This is not generally known: 2 Kings 18:4 He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image[18:4 Hebrew [Asherah, ] a Canaanite goddess] and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan.[ Literally [Bronze Thing] ] At a later time, they had turned what God used for deliverence into an idol. I was surprised to learn of this a few years ago in Sunday School lesson study. Pastor Glenn |

Hey, Well, this just shows that we are just like family here Hank: When one of us makes a blooper, it makes the rest of us feel good about ourselves. ;-) One thing that helps me is to write my longer posts in my word processor before copying here. This helps spell checking, but I still make similar bloopers. God Bless you brother, Pastor Glenn |

New Creature You asked: 1) What is your definition of sanctification, and is it a complete or incompleted act within the believer? Sanctify To set apart for sacred use; consecrate. To make holy: Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. God is able to sanctify us completely through Jesus' blood: Heb 13:11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 2) What is the difference between holiness and sanctification? Sanctification leads to holiness. True repentence makes sanctification easy since Jesus comes in and changes us from the inside out (See Psalm 51). Therefore, New Creature we die to ourselves and become new creatures. The problem is with those that follow God half-heartedly. God is absolutely holy and requires absolute holiness of us. But some church go'ers want to "stradle the fence", in that they want the best of both worlds. Since God knows our hearts, He will not tolerate cleaning the outside of the cup while the inside is still filthy: Exodus 19:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. 22 And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them. 23 And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. 24 And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them. Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 306 | scripture on healing | James 5:14 | Pastor Glenn | 63731
EdB, I read the site at: http://www.christusrex.org/www1/CDHN/heal2.html#SICK It was not clear at first glance that the focus is on last Rites, rather than for all general sickness. We should always look to the bible for what God is saying, above what our denominational tradition says. Jesus taught against tradition. Pastor Glenn |

justme, I was one that tried to be strong and not grieve too much when my father died years ago. And it did lead to mild depression, but God brought me through it. Thanks for your prayers, Pastor Glenn |

308 | Elders anointing sick with oil. | James 5:14 | Pastor Glenn | 63712
justme, About two years ago I anointed and prayed for my sister in-law after she had a severe stroke. She was uncontious and did not wake while I was there. She is now bound to a wheelchair and her daughter has moved her away to take care of her in another state. This past December I rushed from work to the hospital to anoint and pray for an elderly woman member of my church. But I was too late. As I arrived, her son was on his way towards his car. He informed me that she had just past away. Her's was the only funeral that I have performed so far after only one year as pastor. I am determined to pray, fast, and anoint the sick while exhibiting faith on God to give them a full recovery. I believe that God wants me to have faith first and formost, then the sick will have less reason to doubt. It is good to lead them in death bed confession of sin. But their confession and conversion is the greatest miracle that they can recieve. If we can have the faith for the greater thing (salvation), then why not for the smaller thing (healing) also? Anointing with oil may be an act of obedience, but it shows faith to obey God. Habakkuk 2:4 "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Romans 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." Galatians 3:11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." Heb 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

EdB, Again, you say you "...learned of the Catholic take on James 5 I said to myself how in the world do they come to that conclusion??? ". Is it the laying on of hands, the anointing with oil, or the death bed confessions that you find interesting? The thief on the cross was essentially a death bed confession. Some people resist until the end before they accept Jesus: Psalms 51:7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart-- These, O God, You will not despise. Notice "...bones You have broken ..." and "broken and a contrite heart..." here. Also: 1 Corinthians 5 4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.[1] 2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. What do you think of these scriptures? Pastor Glenn |

I appologize EdB, I always beleived in praying for physical healing even for the terminally ill. King David prayed for Bathsheba's baby to live for several days, but he accepted it well when the baby died anyway. Death bed confessions seem far easier to accept then the sudden death of a loved one. I am sorry for offending you with my ignorant remarks. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

312 | scripture on healing | James 5:14 | Pastor Glenn | 63668
EdB, I have no thoughts on last Rites for someone still living. But, if they are already dead and the Catholic church tries to raise the dead, then no one should try to stop them if they pray in the name of Jesus Christ. However, "Hail Mary mother of God..." will not work. It says pray over him, anointing him with oil "in the Lord's name" not "in the Lord's mother's name. [ :-) ] You probably mean praying someone out of Purgatory. In this case they need to find a scripture that says "Is anyone among you *dead*? Then *he* must call for the elders ...". After the dead guy calls for the elders then someone will probably need to stop them from running away first... Pastor Glenn |

Emmaus, Here are some scriptures relating to God creating man. Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Heb 2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him? Heb 2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Before the fall, man did not "require" grace. Man did receive unmirited favor, in that man did not do anything to deserve honour and glory. Grace was due to God's pleasure. But, after the fall we do "require" grace so that God can give us time to repent of our sins and come to beleive in the name of the only begotten Son of God. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

Oh, sorry Emmaus, Please excuse my barging in on this thread. I thought that biblically God's "grace" was defined as His "undeserved favour" towards us. Am I wrong? If I am misdirecting the question please just ignore me or correct me here. Pastor Glenn |

Beensetfree, I would define spiritual death as the death of ones spiritual nature. Why would grace or justification be necessary for Adam and Eve before they sinned? Adam and Eve were made with both a spiritual and physical nature. The spiritual nature was born of the Spirit of God when God breath into his nostrils the breath of life. This is why we must be born again (John 3). For Adam and Eve, They died spiritually (their spiritual nature), but had the same opportunity as any man to be reborn spiritually. Though, we are all appointed to die physically. This is my understanding, Pastor Glenn |

justme, Daniel 12 sounds interesting: Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Even the great prophet Daniel wanted to know more. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

EdB, Well said. So far, America seems to have simularities between both the eagle's wings and the prostitute that says: "Revelation 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow." Why is there a warning for God's people?: Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. Some people focus only on the Anti-Christ or on the beast. I think the key will be to focus on all of the characters in the prophecy. Every word is important: Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Again, here is the quote from 1 Cor 13: 1Cor 13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 11When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. God Bless Pastor Glenn |

EdB, Sorry, but the woman here IS clearly Israel. The "... wings of a great eagle ..." is what COULD represent the US in helping Israel to become a nation again. 1 Corinthians 13 12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |
