281 | John 15:2, "cut off" or "lift up"? | John 15:2 | New Creature | 70483
Parable Bruce Wilkenson like all other eternal security advocates have no choice but to attempt to revise the clear rendering of John 15:2 and 6. If "lifts up" was intended as what was meant by "airo" then I would think that at least one translation would have made the necessary adjustment. The fact is not a single translation renders "airo" in John 15 as "lifts up" Here is how various translations have worded the verses in John 15 which you mention. Different Bible Versions rendering of John 15:2 and 15:6 King James Version - taken away in verse 2 and cast forth in verse 6 Amplifed Version - cuts away in verse 2 and thrown out in verse 6 New American Standard Version - takes away in verse 2, and thrown away in verse 6 NIV Version - cuts off in verse 2, and thrown away in verse 6 Contemporary English Version - cuts away in verse 2 and thrown away in verse 6 New King James Version - takes away in verse 2 and cast out in verse 6 The Living Bible Translation - lops off verse 2 and thrown away in verse 6 Revised Standard Version - takes away in verse 2 and cast forth in verse 6 Todays English Version – breaks off in verse 2 and thrown out in verse 6 Gideons International Bible Version - cuts off in verse 2 and thrown away in verse 6 Weymouth Translation – takes away verse 2 and thrown away verse 6 Youngs Literal Translation – take it away verse 2 and cast forth verse 6 Darby – takes it away verse 2 and cast out verse 6 World English Bible – takes away verse 2 and thrown out verse 6 Websters Bible – taketh away verse 2 and cast forth verse 6 Basic English Bible – takes away verse 2 and becomes dead verse 6 J.B.Phillips New Testament Version - removes in verse 2 and broken off in verse 6 The Jerusalem Bible Version - cuts away in verse 2 and thrown away in verse 6 The Greek word for take in John 15:2 is "airo", which means "to lift, (see Gen. 40:19 N.I.V. - "Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head") carry, take up or away. It is also use in John 1:29 of Christ as "the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world," and the same use of the word can be found in 1 Cor. 5:2 which reads: "And ye are puffed up, and have not rather morned, that he that has done this deed might be taken away from among you." (Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words) In John 15:2 the word away is used in connection with various verbs such as "take away" and is translated "away with" implying a forcible removal for the purpose of putting to death. (Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary Of Old And New Testament Words) In John 15:2 it should be noticed, that there is mentioned two different types of branches - 1) those that do not bear fruit 2) those that bear fruit. Of type number 1 it is said that these fruitless branches are taken away. Only of branch type 2 is there made mention of pruning to make it healthier. For more info on what becomes of the fruitless branches you need only look at verse 6. These fruitless branches that were taken away, or as verse 6 says "cast forth" have become lifeless and withered. There is no longer any sap or life in them. The only thing these dead withered branches are good for is as verse 6 says to be burned. That doesn't sound like being lifted up or supported to me. It is only when men twist the clear teachings of Scripture around that they could possibly say "airo" in this instance could possibly mean "lift up" Careful study of the text will plainly reveal that it says no such thing! 282 | Is the Work of Christ Sufficient? | Rom 6:23 | New Creature | 68311
Robert; Just a couple of comments. Take them for what they are worth. Good works can never earn salvation, but they must accompany it Charles Spurgeon has said "Although we are sure that men are not saved for the sake of their works, yet we are equally sure that no man will be saved without them." “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.” Titus 3:8 Also Jesus Himself said; “My brothers and my sisters are those that HEAR God’s word and PUT IT INTO PRACTICE.” Luke 8:21 NIV faith, if hath not works, is dead, being alone. (James 2:17, 20) And I think we both agree that we don't work to become saved, but rather we work, because we have been saved. True saving faith, will always show forth works as evidence of salvation. Blessings New Creature |

285 | How does Psalm 73 respond to the world? | Ps 73:1 | New Creature | 68180
Lets look at selected verses of Psalm 73 1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. 2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. 12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. 13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. 14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. 16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. 18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. 20 As a dream when one awaketh; 21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. 22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. 26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. 27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. I can only reply as how the Lord used that Psalm 2 years ago to stir my spirit and my heart. (v.1)God today is still good to all those whose hearts are kept unpolluted and clean our bodies are the temple of His Holy Spirit which is in us, and we are to keep these temples of our bodies undefiled and clean. (see 1 Cor. 6:19-20) (v 2) when verse 2 says; "as for me, ... my steps had almost slipped" The Lord was speaking to me personally telling me that I need to come out of my back-slidding state, which if continued in would mean that if I continue to defile the temple of my body, then God would destroy this temple. (see 1 Cor. 3:17) (vs. 3 and 12) How often today do we look around at how properous those without Christ in this world are, and we become often envious. I need to ask the Lord to forgive me for these thoughts. I should be setting my affection on things above not on things of the earth. (Col. 3:2) (v. 7) "Their eyes ... have more than heart could wish" The unsaved have so much and still are not satisfied. Lord teach me to be content with such things as I have. If I have You then I have all I need. (vs. 13,14,16) The Psalmist here is feeling down upon himself, and is beginning to question whether or not he has maintain cleanliness in an ungodly world in vain, and is thinking about the difficulty of walking in the faith. (v. 17) This begins the moment of awaking in the Psalmist's thoughts. When he entered the sanctuary and begin to focus his eyes upon the Lord, instead of the world around him, his right understanding returned to him. (v. 18) He now looked at the ungodly in a different light. He realized that all their riches and gold is only temporary, but that his own rewards which were being stored up in Heaven were unperishable. (vs. 20-22 The Psalmist begins to be saddened by his thoughts and realizes the foolishness of his earlier thoughts concerning those who are rich in material goods. (vs. 23- 26) are beautiful verses. The Psalmists strength and joy returns as he remembers that the Lord continues to hold him by his hand and guide him, and counsel him. He thinks upon his future state when he shall be received into glory when this earthly life is complete. Verse 25 is my favorite in this Psalm The Psalmist like my self can honestly say; "there is no one upon earth that I desire beside Thee. His only desire is God. In verse 26 the Psalmist declares the truth that his flesh and heart fail, but God still provides the needed strength to occupy till He comes, and is His portion, (ineritance or rich reward). (v. 27) Is a 180 degree turn about of the Psalmist's earlier thoughts concerning the ungodly. He speaks about a) those that are far from being in a relationship with God as ultimately perishing, and b) the destruction of those who depart from the Lord. (to me meaning those who do not continue to perseverve and remain faithful to God. They commit the act known as Spiritual adultery.) (v. 28) Finally the Psalmist declares how it is good to draw near to God. The NT says "7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." James 4:7-8) So let us continue in the faith trusting in Jesus. Lets us keep our bodies clean and available for the Master's use blessings New Creature |

286 | Can we loose our salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | New Creature | 67010
Here are some verses for you to study concerning this topic 4 For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7 For the land which hath drunk the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receiveth blessing from God: 8 but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned. Heb. 6:4-8 ASV They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for awhile believe, and in time of temptation FALL away. (Lk. 8:13 also Mark 4:16-17) Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (referring to the Lord's second coming) shall not come, except there come a falling away first. (2 Thess. 2:3) 1Tim 5:12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 1Tim 5:15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. Rev. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. If a man abide not me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. (John 15:6) Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven (Heb. 12:25) But it is happened unto them For if after they have escaped the pollution's of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than after they have known, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2 Pet. 2:20-22) When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die ... in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; (Ezek. 3:20) I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Cor. 9:27) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ (Gal. 1:6) Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (Heb. 4:1) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering ... For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for our sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb. 10:23,26-31) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 287 | Didn't God give man freedom of choice? | Romans | New Creature | 66455
Teacher I do believe we make choices after receiving the gift of salvation. I see our salvation and the keeping of it as a co-operative joint effort in which both God and man play a part. For instance, In the following two verses we see we are to; "Keep yourselves in the love of God" thats mans responsibility and secondly the next verse says we are; "kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation" thats God's part. It says we are kept by the power of God through faith. When I think about faith, I see faith as an active verb, we are to exercise our faith daily. Faith is not something thats passive. Those who believe in passive faith, use quotes such as "let go and let God" which I don't believe is totally accurate Bibically. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Pet. 1:5 So my answer to your question is yes. We have the responsibility to "abide (remain) in Christ" (see John 15:6) |

288 | Notice the past tense used | John 3:16 | New Creature | 65144
Dear welldigger; Thank you for your post, especially the comment in which you stated: ". In the past, I was believing similarly to many of the people I have corresponded with on this site. Then, awhile back, God showed me many things in the scriptures, and showed me that what I was believing was a lie and not in agreement with the scriptures. Of course I was shocked! But He showed me in the scriptures what the truth was, so I believed Him. Then He told me to share that with anyone who is willing to allow Him to show them. So, that's what I'm doing." I really appreciate anyone who compares what men say the Bible means, with what the Bible actually says. Many sincere men have led many away with unscriptural doctrine in the past, and even more in these days. Too many people today view the Bible through the eyes of certain theologians, or preachers. But thank God, He has given us His Holy Spirit to indwell us, and to help us to discern truth from error. Blessings |

289 | Info on Church of Christ | Acts 2:38 | New Creature | 64913
IS THE CHURCH OF CHRIST A CHRISTIAN CHURCH? Some Christians believe that the Church of Christ promotes non-biblical teachings and practices. Is the Church of Christ a Christian church? The Church of Christ movement originally arose in the hopes of promoting unity among all Christians, but it eventually ended up separating itself from other Christian groups. Although the Church of Christ movement is basically Christian, it's difficult not to categorize certain factions as aberrant because of some of their more extreme doctrines and practices. Of all its beliefs, the Church of Christ movement is perhaps best known for its view that water baptism is absolutely essential for salvation. This is no doubt a "sub-biblical" view of baptism. Acts 10:44-48, for example, records that Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit (and therefore saved) before they were baptized. Water baptism is certainly a normal part of becoming a Christian and a member of the church; nevertheless, it's still possible to be saved without having been baptized -- especially when circumstances make baptism very difficult if not impossible (cf. Luke 23:39-43). Now, some of the more extreme factions within the Church of Christ movement go even further, and argue that anyone who views baptism differently from them is not a Christian and is, therefore, lost -- even if that person has been baptized! There are also reports that heavy-handed tactics are employed by a number of more extremist groups within the Church of Christ. The Boston Movement, for example, which evolved from a similar movement at the Crossroads Church of Christ, is probably the most well-known of these authoritarian groups. Both movements were rejected by the mainline Churches of Christ. This particular group goes so far as to say that other segments of the Church of Christ movement are non-Christian and will face eternal damnation. And so, while the Church of Christ movement is orthodox in many of the essentials of the faith, it is plagued with a very loud segment whose views are so extreme that developing any type of Christian fellowship with them becomes almost an impossible task. But remember, don't throw the baby out with the bath water; there are many within the Church of Christ movement who are committed Christians. article from the Christian Research Institute found at http://www.equip.org/free/CP0604.htm |

Verses concerning the Holy Spirit from the Amplified Version which you referred to: (John 14:17 AMP)The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see HIM or know and recognize HIM. But you know and recognize HIM, for HE lives with you [constantly] and will be in you. (John 16:13 AMP) But when HE, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, HE will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For HE will not speak HIS own message [on HIS own authority]; but HE will tell whatever HE hears [from the Father; HE will give the message that has been given to HIM], and HE will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. look at the pronouns HIM and HE - is an it called a HIM or HE? 291 | What do Catholics teach about salvation? | Matt 22:37 | New Creature | 64181
Having never been a Catholic, I don't claim to be an expert on what Catholic's teach, I will tell you what I heard the priest, I guess they call him "father" say to a young couple who were getting married by him. He told them that "since they were both baptized by the Catholic church, then they can rest assured that they will go to Heaven when this life is over" Sounds like a works based salvation that the priest was referring to if you ask me. And we know it is by grace we are saved, not by works (Eph. 2:8-9) I believe baptism is for those who have already been saved. I don't it is appropriate to baptize the unsaved. By that I mean, I don't believe that baptizing the unregenerate person has any effect toward salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith. Thats my two cents worth. God Bless |

Many will actually argue that they do not personally have a free will to choose anything. In this line of thinking ... Man becomes a puppet/or a robot and that "God forced them into becoming a Christian Without free will, many of Bible statements make no sense: 1. "Why do you call me Lord and don't do what I say" Luke 6:46 Why? God willed it that way! 2. "Whosoever believes shall be saved" John 3:16 (Not whosoever God makes a believer) 3. "Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Rev. 22:17 4. John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 5. Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Rom. 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. "God will not violate human freedom. He has created a race of people to make choices. God did not create fleshly robots or mechanical beings over which He has complete control. Why doesn’t God just make me good? The answer is: that wouldn’t be goodness, it would be slavery. And God isn’t interested in slaves but in sons and daughters. God will not overpower us into goodness; He can and does work through every possible means to get our attention to call us, to woo us and win us. But He will never ravish us or violate us as persons."(source unknown) "How can man be held accountable to God for his actions in judgment without freewill? Do those who die unbelivers get judged for something that they could not be responsible for? What kind of God would judge someone for his or her inability?"(unknown source) "What then, you ask, does free will do? I reply with brevity, it saves. Take away FREE WILL, and nothing will be left to be saved. Take away GRACE, and nothing will be left as the source of salvation. This work [of salvation] cannot be effected without two parties -- one, from whom it may come: the other, to whom or in whom it may be wrought. God is the author of salvation. Free will is only capable of being saved. No one, except God, is able to bestow salvation; and nothing, except free will, is capable of receiving it." Bernardus, De Libero Arbit. et Gratia. |

299 | Does Jesus dispise manmade crosses? | Heb 12:2 | New Creature | 60563
Today we see people wearing a crucifix or cross around their neck. I heard someone say that it would have been unthinkable in Bibical New Testament times for a believer to desire to wear a cross, which to them would have been considered a symbol of death around their necks as a piece of jewelery. Back in those days the streets were lined with crosses with people hung on them to die terrible grusome deaths. To them it was an ugly symbol of death instituted by the government of those times. That would be the same thing in their minds as us wearing what we call a coffin around our neck. The cross was something grotesque to them. A better symbol for believers would be something that represents an open and empty tomb, which makes the statement: "He is not here, He is risen from the dead" Amen PTL |

300 | Is it wrong to preach against sin? | Matt 7:2 | New Creature | 60561
I believe it is the churches duty and responsibility to teach against sin in and among the body of Christ. Judgement is passed on to sinning members of the body. Sin in the church is an issue that Scripture tells us must be dealt with. Mt 18:15 ¶ Moreover if thy brother (meaning Christian believing brother) shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy (Christian) brother. 16 But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, (Christian brothers) that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: (not the civil authorities) but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Sounds like sin must be dealt with within the body in Matthew and also in 1 Cor. 5 when Paul talks about a professing believer that because of his sin should be purged out, because a little leaven (meaning sin) leavens the whole body. If we don't quench it where it starts then it will spread. But the goal is restoration of the one sinning. That he may feel ashamed. This is why we have leaders within the church, which are to deal with members of the body of Christ which while professing to be in Christ remain in willful, unconfessed lifestyles of habitual sin. Read the account below, and notice THOSE INSIDE (meaning professed believers) are judged by the church body. But THOSE OUTSIDE (meaning unbelievers) God will judge. Judging unbelievers is not our job. We are to love them to Christ. 1 Cor. 5:1 It is reported commonly [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. 2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, [concerning] him that hath so done this deed, 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 6 Your glorying [is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth. 9 ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person |
