242 | cannot figure out this site | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 137487
Hello rosemary, There are a couple ways of searching. 1) Near the top are two search windows. You can either look for comments on a specific verse or on a book of the Bible. 2) On the right is a window called Quick Search. There you can enter any word and have answers returned. Be careful though. It can take a bit of time, and you could get many 'hits' for a word. Steve |

Hello Dustprophet, Says here there will be more than just the son of perdition. Rev 21:12-15 (ESV) And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. [13] And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. [14] Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. [15] And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Steve |

251 | pre-marital sex | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 139263
Hello cakers, Fornication is a broad term for sex beyond its boundaries, scope, purpose, etc. Therefore, fornication applies to pre-marital sex. The proper place for sex (as has already been mentioned) is in a monogamous marital relationship. Heb 13:4 (ESV) Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Here there is a definite dichotomy established: sex in marriage on one side and sex outside marriage on the other. Within any group of people, there are established practices and rituals which are performed to satisfy legal requirements and recognize the union. Scripture does not specify any particular ritual, because how a person is married is less important than the fact that it occurred. Steve |

Hello Alissa, First, this site is for Bible study, not the interpretation of current phenomena. Second, if you heard something that wasn't there, then you didn't really hear it. More than once I've heard a voice to find no one around. It was simply my mind playing tricks on me. Steve |

257 | Bible reading for a new Christian | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 144658
Hello tjheller, There are several Bible reading plans available. As an example, you could look at http://www.bible-reading.com/bible-plan.html. This and many others gives a plan for reading through the Bible in a year (which I recommend doing). I have followed the Navigators plan in the past found at http://www.navpress.com/Assets/PDF/Magazines/DJ/Brp2.pdf. My own daily reading plan goes like this: 1 chapter from Gen-Deut; 3 chapters from Joshua-Malachi; 1 chapter from Matt-John; 1 chapter from Acts-Revelation. I just keep bookmarks at the breaks. 258 | Hank - Diet ??? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 145973
Hello Merv, I'll answer for Hank. Mark 7:18-19 (ESV) And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) Steve |

259 | Hank - Diet ??? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 145988
Hello Merv, While the question of eating with unwashed hands gave a teaching moment, the Lord's response (as typical) addressed God's view of the general topic. Notice the progression: Mk 7:1-5 Pharisees question eating with unwashed hands. Mk 7:6-13 Jesus does not answer their question. He chastises them for putting their traditions before God's word. Mk 7:14-15 Jesus tells the surrounding people that nothing that goes into a man defiles him. Mk 7:17-20 Jesus further explains his teaching to the disciples. At this point Mark makes an explanatory comment that all foods are declared clean. While teaching to the crowd and the disciples, the Lord never qualifies that his statement was concerning uncleanness with unwashed hands. Writing 25-30 years later, Mark never qualifies that his statement was concerning uncleanness with unwashed hands. Mark makes a very explicit statement. How is it that you misconstrue it? Steve |

260 | Hank - Diet ??? | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 146009
Hello Merv, Adding Matt 15:20 to the end of the combined text does not add anything to your argument. Jesus is relating back to the original question in order to clear up any question of eating with unwashed hands. The text does not say that the food (unclean because of unwashed hands) is cleansed by the stomach and eliminated. That is adding to the text. It simply does not say this. Stick with what it actually says. There is no deeper meaning to this unless you are inserting what is not there. Steve |
