241 | Tongues?Ecstatic Utterances or Languages | 2 Corinthians | Scribe | 42077
according to a close examination of Paul's statements in 1 Cor 14 it is obvious that the tongues Paul prayed in more than all the corinthians was such that he did not understand it himself. So if Paul did not understand it, then it was not a language he learned by natural processes. If it was a language that someone on the planet knew Paul did not know what or who knew it. So the safest answer is that Yes on the day of Pentecost there were many that heard their own language coming from men that had not learned. There is no reason to think that the 120 knew what they were saying... Paul said he could not understand his tongues and so he would pray to himself and to God in tongues and then at times he would pray to himself and to God in his understanding (greek or hebrew or both I suppose) So the answer might be that some one on the planet would recognize it or maybe not, but the fact that no one was going to even be around when Paul was praying in tongues between himself and God demomstrates that that would be a mute (pardon the pun) point. Even if you do not know which or any language it is it is still edifying to excercise the gift of praying in tongues. Now in the Church (not between yourself and God) you still would need and interpreter. So Paul mentions the gift of interpretation, not the art of language, the one that exercised the gift of interpretation was operating in the Spiritual gift and would then speak what the other said in tongues in the common language of the congregation. Does all this sound wierd to you? This is how the first church allowed God to have His way in their midst and it is how charismatics still do. You can see all these Holy Spirit gifts still in operation in the church today. |

242 | Is God truly merciful if He killed kids? | 1 Sam 15:3 | Scribe | 42066
I usually explain this by thinking about what other information we have about these cities they were to destroy. We have archaelogy discoveries that reveal that these people did practice everything from canabalism to beastiality. They also would dedicate a building by plastering a baby in the walls. They offered their children to idols even placing them in the arms of bronze statues made to glow red with heat. Now we can understand why they may have been beyond hope and God had, had enough, even as with Sodom and Gomorah who when angels came in their midst still refused to repent and even wanted to cast their sin on the Holy messengers. So what if the babies in these villages were infected with multiple diseases and had no chance of living, God could have been taking the babies soul away from the horror of the life their wicked parents were forcing on them. You can say God would not do that but that is because we look at things after the cross and after the world has been changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ (whether the world and political landscape knows it or not) and we cannot understand the affairs of government in those days. We do not even understand how a prophet could be holy and have multiple wives, but he could. Not now of course because things have changed in our understanding and moral constitution becuase of the cross and effect of the the church on the world. In some of these small villages there may not have been many children left due to the hineous crimes of the adults. One thing is for sure. When the wrath of God begins to be poured out on the world as spoken in Revelation, and one third of mankind is killed from just one of the plagues or judgements poured out, there will be babies involved. There must have been infants in Sodom and Gommorah (unless they had eaten them all). That an infant suffers death when the cataclysmic judgements of God fall is not so horrible as the idea that men would ignore the escape from wrath offered them at this present time. If an infant dies he or she will go to a better place, if an adult dies and has not repented and put faith in Christ he is lost forever and forever is a long time. |

243 | what is the scripture Paul quotes here? | Eph 5:14 | Scribe | 42063
You answered your question by posting the verse the Amplified NASB gives the cross reference Isa 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Isa 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isa 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Paul did not qoute from any book of Elijah becuase Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit and would not quote from false books that were not scripture. Some people even think that Jude quoted from the "book of Enoch" but what happened is that some false teachers wrote a book to make it sound like the Enoch wrote it bassed on what they had read Jude say. The false book of Enoch is qouting Jude not Jude qouting the false book. God bless you in the study of His Word. |

244 | verse mean death now or at 2nd coming | 2 Cor 5:8 | Scribe | 42045
Php 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: If Paul felt that his dieing was the same as being with Christ then it seems safest to conclude that our spirit goes instantly to be with Christ. And then consider Christ Himself. We know he descended into the lower parts of the earth before his ascension so if he descended before his resurrection he did so in the spirit. Out spirits are conscience after death and since Christ made the way, we now go to Him whatever that may be called. such as heaven. |

246 | 1st Cor 14:34-35 and 1st Timothy 2:12 | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 41922
1Co 14:34 ¶ Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 1Co 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Ignore? My church doesn't ignore it. If we seperated the men from the women in the Law style of synagogue meeting. And if the women yelled.. Hey what about this scripture that says men are to be circumcised, How can a man be saved who is not circumcised.?" that would be a shameful display both to her husband and to the church. She should wait and ask her husband that question at home instead of showing here ignorance so publically and shamefully. Now this truth applies to men as well. Let all things be done in decency and in order |

247 | Laws to live by? | Matt 22:36 | Scribe | 41920
Mt 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Mt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Mt 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. Mt 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Mt 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. |

Es 2:10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it. I would think that it was because the Jews were mistreated at the time and he feared for her life if she let it be known. |

249 | explain Gal.5:21b not inherit Kingdom of | Gal 5:19 | Scribe | 41914
Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Ga 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Ga 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. In Luke 8:10 Jesus in speaking of the parable of the sower calls it a parable about the "kingdom of God" (Lu 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. ) In Matt 13:11 Jesus speaking about the same parable says the same thing and uses "Kingdom of Heaven" (He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.) So did Jesus use both words? or is this simply two different writers saying the same thing with slightly different styles? I think you would agree that Kingdom of God and Kingdom of Heaven are the same here. When you read the letters of Paul you find he never once used the term Kingdom of Heaven but often used the term Kingdom of God. However Paul did once say it a little different thatn Gal 5;21 when in Eph 5:5 he states.... For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. And here he puts no difference between the Kingdom of Christ and of God, and if someone would dare to seperate them they must at least agree that they are both included in the statement of not getting there if you live this way. I have heard this statement before but there is no difference between the terms and it can be said in modern style as well... If you live this way.. I don't care if you say you walked the isle and signed the prayer card, your not going to heaven when you die. You must repent and get these things out of your life by faith in Christ. Amen and God bless you. |

250 | Is dance praise and worship 2 sam 6? | Ps 149:3 | Scribe | 41911
Ps 149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. I would say there is scripture to say that God is pleased with the heart of FAITH that dances in joy, I do not think this is the same as learned dancing such as needing to take lessons or anything. When we dance with joy before the Lord out of exhuberant praise it is the same as when someone starts jumping up and down with glee. Or when we do a musical dance that we sort of make up as we go, this too is acceptable and belongs to that realm of the being spiritually affectionate toward God. |

251 | Faith apart from reading the Bible? | Rom 10:17 | Scribe | 41908
Steve I agree with you. You are much more biblical in your understanding than those that would say you have to have read it in the bible first. I beleive that God is faithful to bring a Bible or preachers of the Bible to an honest seeker but I too had faith in Jesus Christ when as yet I had not read the Bible. I was in jail. I was crying out for God to change my life. I had this much knowledge. 1) I knew I was living a loser of a lifestyle, that I was not a good person. 2) That God still loved me , (I admit I had heard that somewere) 3) that if you pray God will help you. I prayed and prayed I was in spiritual turmoil, no rest for my soul After many days, I heard a man pray over his food in jest "God bless the mess! In Jesus Name!" I knew he was being irreverant, but when he said "In Jesus Name!" It was as if a flood light came on in my heart! I got on my knees and ask the Lord to change my life and get me a Bible IN JESUS NAME, and I believed He heard me. The next day I was moved to a place where I could get a Bible and while I waited for the delivery of the Bible I found some torn out pages of the book of James on the floor. That became my Bible for several weeks and it was what I needed to start my life of sanctification in Christ. May God Bless you All. |

252 | Is the Promised Land the Israel of today | Hebrews | Scribe | 41903
Ro 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Abraham was promised THE WHOLE WORLD so yes the land of Israel is the promised land but only as a type or lesson that God is going to give the saints THE WHOLE WORLD, for a thousand years and then A New Heaven and New Earth. Heb 11:40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. If you see that we (us the new testament saints) are to be included in the promises, then we know it is more than Geographical Isreal. In answer to your question Israel and Jerusalem is the very promised land of the Old testament and there is no question by anyone that it. Many of the geographical landmarks mentioned in the OT have never been mistaken for some other place in all of human history by those that live there. Some things are hard to identify such as the location of the tower of Babel, but they are fairly certain they have the base identified. But Jerusalem, mount Zion has never been in dispute. Yes God promised them the Land, but God had a greater purpose. Here is the Greater Truth. The promised land is your heart (your soul, your eternal being)Or the Promised Land are all the eternal promises of eternal Life with Christ, the Bodily Resurrection, The inheriting of the earth, the possessing of the literal kingdom, all of these promises not yet realized in full but possessed by faith is the Promised Land for us. And as they had to walk by faith to possess it so do we. Do a study on the enemies they had to drive out, they all have names that can be applied to the spiritual battles we face as christians in our walk of sanctification. He that endures unto the end shall be saved. we have to drive out the amorites as they did but we do it spiritually by repenting and fleeing from lusts that once kept us in bondage. You see them having problems by letting some enemies remain among them (as you see today) and we must learn from this and not allow any secret lusts or vices to remain in our hearts. God Bless you in your study of the Word. |

253 | John6:39- 40 who is raised, when? | John 6:39 | Scribe | 41889
Joh 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 39. Torrey Joh 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The saints are promised from ancient times that we will have a redemption of the body. So what Jesus is referring to is the Bodily resurrection of the saints. When we die now our spirit goes to be with Christ. But in the last day (a time period called the Day of the Lord) saints will have thier bodies raised and glorified as eternal bodies. So that in your current limited understanding you could say they are spiritual bodies, but not spirit only. We have a body and we have a spirit. Now our bodies are corruptible but then they will be raise incorruptible. There is a time period between going to be with the Lord now and getting our glorified bodies. There are plenty of scripture for this. I will post them if you would like. |

254 | Multiple Wives in the OT? | Matt 19:8 | Scribe | 41869
Now I know it may seem as though I posted a scripture that does not apply. I believe that this passage does apply to the question of more than one wife. Since Jesus sites...23 And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. ...as scripture for stating divorce was not in God's plan for man, it also can be said that based on this verse "the Two would become one" means One man plus One woman equals two; is God's plan but because of their inability to control their passions he let them have more than one in order to keep fornication and sexual sins curbed as they did not have the regeneration work inside that we now do as born again saints. So in the New Testament you see these verses,..1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; (which means if he is married he must have one wife, or it means he should be married and only to one) or it may mean he should not be divorced. Or all of the above. God Bless You in your study of His Word. |

Fascinating in that they give you insight into the working of Satan and his ancient strategies. I will explain... First for those that do not know what the Nag Hamadi Texts are ... In December, 1945, near the town of Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt, An Arab peasant, looking for fertilizer found a clay jar, inside it were these old papyrus books bound in leather. They were a collection of ancient manuscripts that were probably hidden about 390 AD by Monks from a nearby monastery of St. Pachomius, who may have been trying to hide them because of efforts from the RCC, (or maybe the Orthodox church, not sure which.) to destroy heresy. I think it was bout 1970 their translation was completed. They are referred to by many as the Gnostic gospels. I am convinced that they are examples of how the devil is still using the same strategies in the church today that he has been using since the church began. When it comes to cults, false teaching and doctrines of devils there is no new thing under the sun. The devil knows what will work and he uses the same deceptions under different names and camouflage. These Nag Hamadi texts are not the inspired word of God and I doubt that any of the named apostles were the authors but the writers of these texts may have been so deluded as to think they had the "spirit" of Thomas or the "spirit" of James and so they felt they could say they were and not be lying. It fits within their 'gospel' to do so because the nature of mystical personal revelation knows no moral bounds. The same deceptions propagated by these writings are still with us today. Of Course we don't need to read the Nag Hamadi text to see what they are. Jesus Christ revealed the underlying root of all false doctrine that would face the church which had already been spewed out of hell in the first century to attack the church. Jesus revealed it in Rev Chapter 2-3 when He addressed the seven Churches. These false doctrines and the underlying root sins have been attacking the people of God since that day and we would do well to memorize Rev 2-3 and guard our minds and hearts daily, furnished thereby. Again I repeat what I have stated in previous posts. If you have faith in the Holy Spirit living in you, and you have complete trust in Jesus Christ and the Father to abide in you as you abide in the Vine then you will know the truth and the truth will lead you. No one needs to fear being a Gnostic if they are honest in their heart as it relates to faith and repentance. The cults and modern Gnostics that are being lead by the same demons that moved the writers of the Nag Hamadi texts still walk in the pattern of placing intellectual affirmation of a doctrine or interpretation as the chief goal in religion and pass off as a thing of little importance the lifestyle of holy living required to inherit eternal life. May God Bless You All. |

256 | Jesus knew.......... | John 13:11 | Scribe | 41758
It was prophesied that it would happen. But Judas did not go to hell because it was prophesied. He went there becuase of his own choice. Jesus said it must needs be that offences will come but WOE to those who do the offenses, (my paraphrase) The lesson is that we can all go to the same place Judas went if we follow his example or we can take the high road of holiness by faith. Yes even some that seem to be a disciple of Christ are nothing more than a judas, a son of wickedness, becuase they love money and the things of flesh and the praise of men more than the praise and approval of God. In the pulpit throughout the world you have these judas' proclaiming religious words but finding thier chief pleasures in their secret sins. The flock of these false shepherds are starving for truth and the pure Word of God, and they come week after week to be disappointed by a backslidden or even unregenerate man claiming to know more than them about the Bible when in reality he knows almost nothing at all that was not taught him by other men. May God grant repentance and revival before that Day comes when judgmenet must begin in the house of God. |

257 | Seeing and talking to God vs praying | Deut 4:1 | Scribe | 41731
Deuteronomy 4:12 2 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only [ye heard] a voice Actually no man has seen the literal face of God EXCEPT for Jesus. God showed only similitudes to Moses and others even as he stated here in Deut 4 And the reason he stated there also, so they would not create vain images and call it God. God did speak in a Voice from Heaven and also manifestations with Christ His Only Begotten SOn.. Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. But only of Jesus is it said... John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him]. Here is one more thought along this topic. Some people not thinking it through wonder why God does not choose to speak audibly to all saints and they wish He would. But Our God has provided something better than that. God will live on the inside of the believer and speak to him even in his thoughts and spirit. So isn't better to carry on your conversations with God in private rather than Have God speaking to you for the whole world to hear? I mean isn't it better to have God on the inside so that you may constantly commune with not matter where you are than to have to call him up on the phone or meet him at Starbucks for a discussion? God is Great and Greatly to be Praised. |

258 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | Scribe | 41728
So what is the danger of believing one is either destined to salvation or to hell and has not choice in the matter? Is it possible, even probable that one that holds such a view, if they fall into sin will think they must be one destined to sin and cannot help it so why bother. So they go ahead and hold on to their porn addiction. Or more likely that they would say I am destined to salvation so this porn addiction cannot prevent that and I will not let it bother me, God will take the addiction away when He is ready in His destined time. Come to think of it. I know I have not met that many but of all those that take the extreme predestined view, they are living in sin. Go figure. Now I am sure there are some holy living saints that believe everything Calvin taught it is just that I have yet to meet them. Those I have met think nothing of drinking or other such fleshy things. They seem to have no problem with allowing a little carnality to remain in their lives. Am I perfect? NO but I will ask the Lord to show me anything that is wrong in my life, in attitude or in action and I pray I will see it and quickly repent. To continue doing something that I know is sin even in minor things is something that would deprive me of sleep. This to me is being a christian. Those people I have had discussions with concerning Calvin, all seem to hold on to various faults, they know they are faults and do not say they are not faults or "God has to show me" they know they are sins but they think they will just be OK anyway. Is this the fruit of the unbiblical form of predestination that man has no choice in the matter? I think it is. The same with the Baptist view of Once Saved Always Safe. Not that all Baptist take it this far, but if I believed I would still be saved even if I had a porn addiction, then does that explain why 80 percent of a baptist congregation will live worldly lives and only 20 percent really live holy. When you examine a charismatic or pentecostal church that believes that one has to live holy with as much as they know how to claim the promises of God , these congregations have about 20 percent living backslidden lives and 80 percent trying to live holy with all they know how. Is it a fruit of the doctrine they hear and teach? I think it is. All things in our personel lives are a reflection of the truth or error of the doctrine we believe. If two doctrines are preached both using scripture but the doctrines are so opposite they cannot both be true, how do you determine which one if any is correct? They both say look at the Word. I will tell you. Look at the fruit of the "word" they say they are trusting in. Is one producing a holy life and the other not? then embrace the doctrine that produces a holy daily life. God Bless you all. |
