221 | Is suicide a mortal sin? | 2 Sam 17:23 | Scribe | 42884
2 Samuel 17:23 And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father. When you read of the examples of those that killed themselves in the Bible you will notice one thing all had issues that made them in a lost condition as it relates to salvation and eternal life before they killed themselves. We are saved by faith in the Lord, repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than getting hung up on the logic of can a person be forgive of suicide (sense all sin can be forgive) it probably would be better to ask "can a person be saved without faith" of which there could hardly be any present in the act of suicide. God bless you in your Study of His Word. |

222 | Was Lot selfish or greedy? | Gen 13:10 | Scribe | 42877
Genesis 13:10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. "And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered" Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise... 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. It seems that the desire in the heart of Lot was that of worldly comfort and ease. It is true that Lot was called righteous but I am sure that he would have been more pleasing to God if he had said " I cannot dwell in the midst of the hellish place and vex my righteous soul, before he went in rather than after he had to come out. And even when see him pleading with God to be allowed to go in to Zoar (which means little) reveals that he still had a little of that desire for worldly comforts. Finally in Zoar he has had enough, he sees things as they are and flees that wicked place. Later his daughter get him so drunk he blacks out, so he still has a way to go. But eventually he has this testimony.. "he was a righteous man." Praise God for forgetting those things which are behind and calling us righteous by faith. |

223 | Gods days or mans days | Lev 23:3 | Scribe | 42843
Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. Hmmm? Maybe you meant why do "catholics" celebrate these days. Most of the christians in America in conservative evangelical denominations or nondenominational churches (which are fast becoming the largest group of dedicated christians in Amerca) understand that these holidays were started by the Catholics. They do not celebrate them as a day that God has commanded them they must observe. They may use them to witness. If the world will literally stick their fingers in their ears when you talk about Jesus; but at Christmas, listen with respect or come to your church and see a presentation that presents the gospel, then by all means use the catholic invented holidays to win the Lost. God knows you are not winning any lost souls laying in bed on the sabbath. |

224 | what does Easter mean | Acts 12:4 | Scribe | 42841
Acts 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Here it is Gr. Passover I am sure you know by now that The Roman Catholic church set up the idea of celebrating Easter as the resurrection of the Lord. Now today those that do not see it as commandment from the Bible might still use it to evangelize all the poor ignorant sinners that are not yet born again that will visit their church on that day when they do not go to church any other day. God looks at the heart. And if you love people you will use every opportunity to win them to Christ and the Story of the Crucifixtion and Resurrection of Christ is somthing you should preach on that day since your church might be filled with sinners who have never really understood it. So it is not a sin to celebrate the day as such. |

225 | slavery of Isreal | John 8:34 | Scribe | 42839
When you sin in your heart you become a slave to it. Then you wander why you keep falling into the same sin and wonder if you will ever really be free. The answer is to have faith when you repent and begin to practice saying no to the sin and walking in righteousness. Soon you will become a servant of righteousness. John 8:32-34 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. |

226 | why did they feel compelled to cover | Gen 3:7 | Scribe | 42810
Innocense knows no guilt or shame. The point was that to know about evil was never the plan of God. To have knowledge of evil is to know you have done wrong. The idea that to be without clothing was wrong had come into their minds as a result of having done wrong. Not only to be naked but many other things became known to them that they had never been concerned with before. As they go forth into the world they experience such things as being angry and Cain kills his brother. To look at Able and to be wroth was another thing that had been gained by eating the fruit besides that of knowing you were naked.
227 | Jesus according to Paul, vs. the Gospels | 2 Tim 3:16 | Scribe | 42808
The person that thinks that the Nag Hamadi texts are consistant with Pauls writings has not read either Paul or the Nag Hamadi texts. The reason the gnostic texts were rejected was because Johns revelation was effective in expunging the false teachers from the churches Rev Chapter 2 - 3 The gnostics were so messed up they would write a book and say it was from Timothy and knowing that he was not Timothy think to himself that he was not lying becuase he was a "spiritual" timothy. This sort of falsehood was common. Of course the real motive was to deceive. But a false prophet never goes about thinking "I am a false prophet. I will devour ignorant sheep like a wolf and use them for my own purposes." No usually a false teacher will think to himself some complex structure of logic that makes him think he is in contact with the "mystical" idea of god that he has imagined. There are hardly any moral limits for them. For almost anything can be justified. So in the Book of Revelation Chapter 2-3 they are rebuked as being inspired of hell and their doctrine exposed. These were the early gnostics. Nicolatains were the first. The Nag Hamadi texts were an example of thier writings or of those that wrote some time after 90 AD What would a person have to gain by accepting the gnostics over the Bible? Well this mainly, they believe they can commit fornication and still go to heaven. Now to someone with a porn addiction, but who wants to inherit eternal life, they might find this an attractive beleif system. The only problem is, that it is a lie! And they will wake up in hell. May God bless you in the Study of His Word. Read the gnostics and see what you think. http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/nhlalpha.html |

228 | is esau eternally damned? | Heb 12:15 | Scribe | 42670
Hebrews 12:15-17 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Very Good question, and one that deserves an answer. This is one of the most sobering passages in the new testament. The reason that Esau was condemned was that he had a heart that considered the temporary lusts of the flesh more to be desired and satisfied than to desire and seek after eternal promises of God by faith. This passages warns christians to take heed that they not have this kind of heart. What it means is that we must continue to have the heart of Jacob that held on to the Angel of the Lord and would not be denied blessing from God. If in a time of temptation to sin against God you remember that you are in a sense choosing a bowl of soup for the divine presence and promises of God it will help you to resist and will cause the power of the lust to fade. If you did fall into a sin would you be eternally damned? We all know that is not true or no one would be saved. However Esau was not condemned because he did such a thing one time. Esau had a heart condition that he did not repent of. When the passage says he sought it with tears it does not mean that Esau sincerely cryed out to God but God would not forgive him. It is a reference to when Esau cried after he found out that Jacob had recieved the blessing that should have been Esau's as the first born, when he came to Isaac and found out Jacob had already been there disguised as Esau. Esau wept, Genesis 27:34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. .. he was seeking a change in the situation.. He wept but not to the Lord in repentance but to Isaac saying.. Bless me.. even ME... and then vowed to kill Jacob after he found out there was no remedy for loosing his birth right. Esau had no one but himself to blame, but you never read of Esau acknowledging this. If he had of he would have been forgiven. Esau cried seeking to change the situation but not seeking to be forgiven by God. What lesson is Paul applying to saints? Paul says we should be careful to make sure such a heart is not found in us? If it were not possible then Paul would not have been inspired to warn us. The truth is that satan will attempt this strategy against the saints. We are not ignorant of his devices thanks to scriptures like these. May God bless you in your study of His Word. |

CONTINUED If we understand that the DAY of THE WRATH of Him that sits upon the Throne and of the LAMB is being poured out upon unrepentant man , then we know that we are kept from it. So for clarity when discussing the Day of Judgement I will call it the Great Day of God's Wrath instead of Tribualtion so that you do not mix up what I am saying with the type of testing and adversity we all face and some more than others. After you examine the doctrine of the Judgement of the Lord upon man prior to the New Heavens and Earth and after you master the doctrine of a bodily resurrection then it is time to examine the passages about a church that is changed and glorified and rises to meet the Lord (rapture). This rumor that the pre-trib view started in the 19th century is not accurate. I have numerous books in my library that reference the doctrine of a generation of saints that are changed in a moment and rise and meet the Lord and then afterwards an ongoing time of judgement upon those that remain that date back to the middle ages. I have a book that is one of the best and most scholarly expositions on Revelation by a man named James A. Siess titled "The Apocalypse" that was written in the 18th century (late 1700s) and he even used the word rapture. Siess cites numerous rescources in his book of ancient writers that held similar views based on the same verses we use today to explain the rapture. No Granted there is one major difference. The idea of disappearing from view. I am not sure why anyone would have thought that a necessary explanation. There was never any indication of Elijah dissapearing, he was seen to go up. I mean he disappeared when he go too high. As with Jesus, he was seen to ascend up into a cloud. The mount of transfiguration glory is promised to all the saints that are ready at his appearing and so when I read this event in 1 Cor 15 and the passaged in 2 Thess I thought of other scripture references and my first thought was that of being glorifed and shining like the sun and then rising and wicked sinners that once persecuted the holy saints looking on in awe. The passage says we are CHANGED in a twinkling of an eye not that we dissapear. And the passage is quite detailed about the change. Our mortal bodies are changed into immortal glorifed ones. This promise is to be held dear. When it happens is in question. The event is not in question. The type of change .. bodily glorification .. is not in question. May God Bless you in your Study of His Word. |

232 | Pretribulation or slightly after ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Scribe | 42597
I am glad you asked this question. I was thinking about bringing it up myself today. I know that there have already been many posts on this topic here and I am sure there have been very good jobs at explaining this doctrine. However often the posts are to incomplete to convince anyone of anything. I am not dogmatic about my views and willing to change them when it comes to many things involving eschatology however there are certain basic truths that one should embrace and have as part of their hope as they wait for the coming of the Lord. To understand the doctrine of a pre-tribulation rapture of the Church you have to get a handle on two other doctrines first. One that of a promise of a bodily resurrection. This topic alone is a foundational truth concerning salvation. If there were no bodily resurrection of the saints then you would still be in your sins. Now there are those that are saved before they even understand 'whether there be any bodily resurrection' in that they put their trust in Jesus Christ and leave the details to Him. However the fact remains that if there were no bodily resurrection they would not be saved. This is a legal issue in the heavenly courtroom and this whol subject of a bodily resurrection must be probed and examinded and embraced and rejoiced in before the idea of a raptured church will make any sense. One of the passages where we get or doctrine of a rapture (simple word for a long explanation of a prophetic event) is from 1 Cor 15. As you read it you see that there will be a people who will not die. There will be a generation of saints that will be changed and recieve glorified bodies and rise and meet the Lord in the air. Does this happen at the end of the Tribultion or the Middle or the Beginning? I cannot say for certain I can give scripture that sounds like one or the other. However if all the verses are examined the majority of verses weighs heavily on the pre-trib view. The other doctrine that must be examined before you examine that of the rapture is the doctrine of the Day of the Lord and the Wrath of God ready to be revealed upon the ungodly. This day of wrath is described in many Old Testament Prophets and in all cases more than a 24 hour day is described. When it was prophesied about the day of Jacobs trouble that would be the worse they had every seen it was a prophesy of Judgement. When the Great Tribulation begins in Revelation it is all about Judgement being poured out on unrepentant sinners. There is another use of the word tribulation, that which we all have as christians if we live holy in this world, we will have tribulation. But THE GREAT TRIBULATION is alogether another use of the word. As the wrath of man is a different use of the word WRATH when we refer to the WRATH Of GOD. We may recieve the wrath of man or so it may appear to us while we live holy in this life, but never will the saint recieve the WRATH of GOD. |

233 | i need Biblical info on homosexuality | Rom 1:27 | Scribe | 42546
It is extremely rare that a person that is a homosexual really believes they are a christian. Most likely they know they are not but hate the idea of being accused of being in "sin." Forget about preaching against homosexual sin as a means to convince her because I doubt she would care even if she agreed that it was a sin. You will have to preach about how that all men are sinners and that we all need Christ. If there is any hope for a person being brought to repentance it will be in seeing their need for a physician. You are called to preach the gospel of the Cross of Christ as the remedy for all sin and deliverance from the power of sin. All sex before marraige is forbidden. If she reads Romans 1 and is not convicted then there is nothing you can do to add to it. It is extremely rare that you should ever enter into a vain argument with a homosexual on whether it is a sin or not. If they believe in God at all they know it is a sin, they will not admit it to you but they know. Is it any worse of a sin than others? Yes it is. There are sins that were given capital punishment in the OT and others that demanded restitution. Homosexual sins were rated worthy of captial punishment (death). Does that mean we should give captal punishment to homosexuals today? No but we should make it illegal and stand on the side of scripture in our Governments. Many states have laws against it but it is not enforced. There are sins that a society commits daily but there are some sins that if a society embraces them as a whole God will have no choice but to bring judgement on that society. We are told to look to Sodom and Gomorrah as an example of what God will do when a nation cast off all restraint and embraces such heinous sin as open homosexuality. And what person really thinks it is OK with God? None, they that do such things have chosen to push God out of their conscience and are not interested in serving God. They may make up some other God in their imagination that is a god of creature lusts but they will not believe in the God of the Bible. They may say they are a christian but it is a lie and an attempt to disarm you. Let your peace remain with you and preach to them as you would any other sinner, not dealing with their individual sins but with the whole heart issue. Judgement awaits all sinners that refuse to repent. And those that would flee the wrath to come must do so on God's terms alone or experience eternal regret. The stubborn heart of a self willed man or woman cannot be won or softened with vain strivings about words or sins. The only thing that can change the heart of man is repentance and faith toward God. When you speak to them speak about How God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their lives but they can only enter that plan by repentance of all sin and faith toward God. Then let God work on them. Some are not open to God and God will lead you to those that are. It takes a much greater degree of willful rebellion against knowledge of what is good to commit homosexual sins therefore it is rare to see them repent. The state of the heart to commit such sins requires a greater searing of the God given conscience. Can they be saved? Yes but it is rare that they desire to know God in spite of the words they may cast at your feet. May God Bless you in your study of the Word. |

234 | What does Revelation 3:14-22 mean? | Rev 3:17 | Scribe | 42490
Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: When a church sits under a type of preaching and ministry that places an emphasis on material blessings as a sign that God is on their side. When a church calls the abundance of activity "fruit." When a church vaunts itself and says "this is the greatest hour the church has ever known" When a church says "we have more faith or more knowledge than Paul had" When a church says "success" is when you have a high paying job. When a church says "they have been saved to do all these abominations" When a church says "they are covered by the blood" and wink at sin. |

235 | When we die are soul and spirit with God | 1 Thess 5:23 | Scribe | 42482
Mr 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Soul is often used in scripture to refer to the spirit of a man. Is man three parts, in a sense yes. You do have a body, which is promised a redemption and eternity, you do have a soul which is that eternal part of you just as your spirit. What is the difference between soul and spirit if any. The only difference is when you use both words in the same sentence. If I say I have been born again in my spirit and I have the mind of Christ and am being transformed by the renewing of my mind I am referring to the change in my spirit which is complete and does not change over time and I am referring to the soul in that that sanctification of my soul or inner revelation or growth in the spirit, continues to grow brighter and brighter. To say the soul is the mind is too simple and inaccurate. My mind has memories of past sins, This is not my soul this is my flesh brain. My spiritual mind is my soul and it is that which is deeper than the fleshly brain. Can you define the difference between the soul and spirit. Not easily. The Word of God is sharper than any two edge sword and it can divide between soul and spirit. The soul and the spirit are not seperable. The body that we have now can be seperated from our soul/spirit, but the Body which we will have will not be seperate. The soul is never seperate from the spirit, not in this life or the one to come. The soul is the spirit and spirit is the soul. 3Jo 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. Here the Paul prays for the physical needs of the believer to be as blessed as his spiritual needs grouping all things spiritual under the word soul 1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here he refers to that which is of the mind when he uses the world soul in the same sentence with spirit and soul and body The mind not of the flesh brain memories but the mind as it relates to the spiritual revelation and conscience that the Holy Spirit speaks to and controls if we let him by humble faith and repentance. It may teach well to draw three circles and say man is spirit soul and body, but calling the soul the mind is too simple and does not correctly convey the depths of the biblical use of soul. |

237 | Where there is no vision, people perish? | Prov 29:18 | Scribe | 42479
The KJV (my favorite) says. Where there is no vision, the people perish If you look up this word in the KJV you will see that it is overwhelmingly used for the prophet who spoke the Word of God to the people calling them to repentance. There were many pillow prophets and false prophets speakning "blessings" and "peace and saftey" at times in Israel's history when there was "no open vision" and the "word of God was precious" If today you have many men preaching but preaching from their own heart and not giving a challenging word from God as revealed to them in prayer and seeking after God's heart, you end up with a people that perish for no prophetic vision. They continue on in their sins with no alarm of the impending judgement to come. And if a minister comes along and decides to obey the heart of God and call the people to repentance he is quickly voted out of the pulpit for a more "tolerable" minister that will "understand" the people. It is only when the preaching of the Word is being done by the power of the Holy Spirit that people will be convicted of sin. Without this dynamic of the anointing the people cast off restraint and say "we are saved to do all these abominations." May God Bless you in the Study of His Word. |

Col 2:16 ¶ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Paraphrase ... sabbath equals shadow Christ.. equals the real body that casts the shadow the Real Body is the real thing not the shadow. The sabbath was given to point to things to come...the rest that Christ would give a man when he came into forgiveness and righteousness by faith in the finished WORK of chirst. SO christians do keep the sabbath by true faith in Christ to make them righteous. In other words if a man trys to get a sense of righteosness by working at keeping a day of the week, he fails. He is working. If a man rests in the finished work of the cross to make him righteous by faith, he RESTS. he therefore keeps the true sabbath. So keep the true sabbath and let those that would trouble you work on at it all they please, it is between them and God, but you may rest in His finished work. Heb 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Heb 4:11 ¶ Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. |
