221 | Sexual orientation determined at birth | Prov 3:13 | Pastor Glenn | 104893
Well said stjones except: "I have to agree with the liberals who say that the Bible does not specifically address sexual orientation." By the way happy Thanksgiving. I thank the Lord for allowing myself, beautiful wife, and nine children to be in the land of the living. I also thank Him for providing all of our needs. Alleluia. About your statement; respectfully, everything else that you said is the opposite of your opening paragraph. Please let me explain why: Just as you said "...Scripture does deal with sinful desires in general - they are the result of our fallen nature and our inclination toward sin. ...". Scientific literature ignores the fact of the "sinful nature" of fallen man. Here is one scripture that kalos provided: Roman 1 26For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. Does this scripture show "...silence on sexual orientation in particular ..."? I hope that you don't feel that I am knit picking. Pastor Glenn |

222 | Bearing arms as a Christian | Rom 13:4 | Pastor Glenn | 103876
Cheryl, Have you read this?: Romans 13 1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake. 6For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers attending continually to this very thing. May God bless you for your good work and sacrifice for us, Pastor Glenn |

223 | Baffled about Babel | Gen 11:6 | Pastor Glenn | 103868
proffitt_79, This is a very complicated matter that only God could solve. Gen 11 4And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." 8So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Notice verse 4: "...let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." There pride can be clearly seen here. They were intent on making a name for themselves. Also notice the world today. Over the last couple hundred years or so we can see the “benefits” of all people working together. Innovations like the printing press, standardization of measurements, the industrial revolution, the electronics communications revolution, the computer revolution, and the internet information revolution; all are coming upon us faster than we can take. So, God knew that “…now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them…” It is clear that this would have come far too prematurely if God had not stepped in. The “benefits” hide the dangers! A single world government sounds great at first glance. The problem comes with who will be the one single world leader? We now know that this will be the Antichrist for a short period. Also, God was giving time for His great plan of mercy, grace, and love as a chosen people of faith would bring forth God’s Son into the world. He had already promised not to bring another great flood. God now brings judgment on nations individually rather than to the whole world together as He did with the great flood. So God was not at all afraid “of” man. But rather, He was afraid “for” man. He wanted them to disperse across the world willingly, but instead, He had to disperse them forcefully. Hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |

224 | Can homosexuals receive salvation? | 1 John 1:9 | Pastor Glenn | 103811
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Of course he can still receive God's forgiveness. This is not the unforgivable sin. You should also read the entire Psalm 51. |

225 | HELP ME PLEASE...I am not content! | Rom 12:1 | Pastor Glenn | 102567
More scriptures concerning temptation: Luke 22:46 Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation." 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Timothy 6:9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 2 Peter 2:9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, |

226 | HELP ME PLEASE...I am not content! | Rom 12:1 | Pastor Glenn | 102566
Want2BChrist_Like, As you may already know, there are many with struggles similar to yours. For me at one point in my life it was lust of my eyes (covetousness), at another it was lust of my flesh (sexual desire while unmarried), and yet another was the pride of life (I liked to appear to be better than others). The struggle is not sin; however, yielding to temptation is sin. I have overcome these struggles, but even after being born again they still come back: Romans 7 14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Galatians 5 Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. 227 | "...sin against God?" | Gen 39:9 | Pastor Glenn | 102103
Notice Joseph's response to Potiphar's wife: Genesis 39:9 "There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?" My question is on the last phrase "...sin against God?" By what reasoning or knowledge did Joseph consider adultery with Potiphar's wife to be sin against God? Notice that this was before the law of Moses was given. Pastor Glenn |

228 | True Disciples - eternal importance | Luke 14:26 | Pastor Glenn | 101386
seeking4truth, Here is something else that Christ said: Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. “So I have to confess to God that I don't exhibit the signs that Jesus gave whereby His true followers and disciples would be known.” Miracles were often necessary to gain a base of witnesses, it was not meant to be an everyday thing for all believers. We walk by faith, not by sight. If miracles were very common then faith becomes unnecessary. Even Paul was not granted healing from his “thorn in the flesh” or else he would suffer a bigger problem: Pride. “Pastor Glenn, it would seem that being a disciple of Christ is an eternal issue. But, frankly, sir, I don't measure up to Jesus' own criteria. And to be honest, I don't have the faith to prove my discipleship the way that He demands. What am I to do?” Many Christians confuse “gifts” (healing, tongs…) with “fruit” (love, joy…). The “fruit” of the Spirit are far more important than the “gifts”. Notice that those that have shown gifts will come to Jesus: Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. If you have the fruit of the Spirit called love, then you know that you are saved: 1Jo 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 1Jo 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1Jo 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1Jo 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1Jo 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 1Jo 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 1Jo 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 1Jo 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jo 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1Jo 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1Jo 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. Pastor Glenn |

229 | Purpose of this forum? | Luke 14:26 | Pastor Glenn | 101371
seeking4truth, I am amazed at your knowledge of God's word while still being a skeptic. May I suggest that you prioritize your bible questions in relation to eternal importance. I have read many of your posts and find a couple things that stand out. One thing is that the fear of spending eternity in hell helped to convert you as a teenager. Another thing is that no one ever really discipled you. Please try to keep these two problems in mind as you prioritize your many questions. The fear of death and hell should not be despised as poor reasons to come to Christ. After all, death is sure, whether you believe or not. However, fear of hell fire depends on your belief in the God of the bible. When some of us on this forum question your salvation, maybe it is because we want you to focus on the most important questions. Please do not despise those that may be trying to disciple you by focusing on where Jesus is in your life. Even those that seek a notch in their gun should not be despised any more than a Fireman that keeps tabs of all the lives that he saved throughout his career. Remember, “He that wins souls are wise.” You asked for web-site suggestions. Here is one: http://www.apologeticspress.org Pastor Glenn |

232 | Please explain this "pure blood line". | 2 Pet 2:4 | Pastor Glenn | 97018
DL5, Adam was the man created in chapters 1, as well as, in chapter 2. This is not two separate creation stories. Prior to Genesis 1:1 there was God, not man, not woman. I am somewhat offended by gap theories and pure and unpure bloodline theories, because these were used by the KKK and other racist to explain thier racism. If we fail to remember history, we are destined to repeat it. Pastor Glenn |

Romans 5 Death in Adam, Life in Christ 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned-- 13(For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. 16And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. 17For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. 20Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. If you were to say pure faith line, it would be more accurate. Cane's blood was no more pure than Abel's. It was Abel's faith that made the difference. See Hebrew 11. |

Truthfinder, About your last statement: "I honestly believe that if the Jewish scibes has not changed the original "inspired Scriptures" that this difference of thought would not be here between you and me." Are you saying that the not Christian jewish scribes changed the old testament scriptures so that YHWH was taken out? If this were so then we had no reliable manuscripts at the time of Christ's ministry. Why wouldn't Christ have corrected this alledged blunder? Why wouldn't the dead sea scrolls have shown this descrepancy? "I stress again the point that Jesus makes in verse 10, “I am in union with the Father”, not that he is the Father, Almighty God. 1 John 2:5 shows that we as mere men also can be in union with the Father by saying, . 5 But whoever does observe his word, truthfully in this [person] the love of God has been made perfect. By this we have the knowledge that we are in union with him." It is only possible for us to be in union with God if we confess Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. If Christ is not God to us, then we cannot have unity with the Father. Pastor Glenn |

I am not going to bomb you. After God finished the sixth day He said it was "very good". The tree of Good and Evil was actually the tree of the "knowledge" of good and evil. This does not imply that there was any "evil" about the tree itself. It was simply bait for man to act on any evil inclination that should arise in his mind. |

Jesus connected Genesis chapters 1 and 2: Mat 19 4And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made[1] them at the beginning "made them male and female,'[Genesis 1:27; 5:2] 5and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?[Genesis 2:24] I have no good answer for the statement "replenish the earth". Maybe someone else can add to this. Pastor Glenn |

An interesting article: Noah's Flood - Where did the water come from? "...There are many volcanic rocks interspersed between the fossil layers in the rock record -- layers that were obviously deposited during Noah's flood. So it is quite plausible that these fountains of the great deep involved a series of volcanic eruptions with prodigious amounts of water bursting up through the ground. It is interesting that up to 70 percent or more of what comes out of volcanoes today is water, often in the form of steam. " http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/tools/flood-waters.asp |

DL5, 2 Pet 3 5For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. Compare this to Ps 24 "...founded it upon the seas...": 1 The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. also notice "...fountains of the great deep were broken up...": Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. "what was holding the waters up if there were not land below". Biblically, it appears that the waters are now holding up the land. "...the earth standing out of water and in the water..." |

Yes Colin, I was once blind and deaf also. But I often think of how the men of Ninevah believed only one message from only one preacher. As wicked as they were, they quickly believed God and repented. I would hate to see them having to rise for the prosecution against someone that heard God's warning over and over. Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. |
